MoO2@C nanospheres with a size distribution of about 60—80 nm are hydrothermally synthesized from mixtures of (NH4)6Mo7O24, ethylene glycol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and H2O (autoclave, 180 °C, 60 h) followed by thermal annealing at 700 °C for 4 h in a N2flow.

Formation of peptide derivatives is also described.
