Abstract

Reaction of the phenyloctylbenzaldehyde (I) with the halides (II) and (VII) yields the hydroxy ester (III) or the epoxy ester (VIII) which undergo condensation reaction with the thiols (IV) or (IX) to produce the thioethers (V), (X), and (XI).
