The results of a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of fluorene, 9-fluorenone, and 9-dicyanomethylenefluorene derivatives as individual compounds, as well as their crystal solvates, molecular complexes, and charge-transfer complexes, are generalized. The most interesting features of the molecular geometry and conformation and the molecular packing in the crystals are discussed. The structural formula of 95 compounds and the R factors for X-ray diffraction analysis, which characterize the reliability of determining the structure, are summarized in three tables.

The structure of [CoCl(NH3)5][Ru(NO)(NO2)4(OH)(NO)] consists of octahedral [CoCl(NH3)5]2+ and [Ru(NO2)4(OH)(NO)]2− ions. These units are held together via a three-dimensional network of intermolecular OH⋯O, NH⋯O and NH⋯Cl hydrogen bonds.

The review surveys data on over 200 crystal and molecular structures of metal halide complexes with oxygen-containing crown ethers. The major types of the complexes are distinguished. The characteristic features of formation of these complexes and their coordination fragments are discussed. The bibliography includes 143 references.

The addition of acetone to 9,10-phenanthrenequinone and 2-nitro-, 2,7-dinitro-, and 2,4,7-trinitro-9,10-phenanthrenequinones in the presence of Al2O3 affords mono- and bisadducts. The crystal structures of 10-hydroxy-10-(2-oxopropyl)-2-nitro-9,10-dihydrophenanthren-9-one and 9,10″:10,9″-bishemiketal of 9,10-dihydroxy-2-nitro-9,10-bis(2-oxopropyl)-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene were determined.

The complexes [Pd(η 2 -Q)(PPh 3 ) 2 ] 2 H 2 Q and Pd 2 (µ-η 2 ,η 2 -Q) 2 (PPh 3 ) 2 (where Q and H 2 Q arep-benzoquinone and hydroquinone, respectively) were synthesised and structurally characterised, and their catalytic activity in the oxidative carbonylation of phenyl-acetylene to methyl phenylpropiolate was examined.

The multistep reactions of 2-(2-chloro-4,5-dihydro-3-furyl)-1,3-diphenyl-1,3-diaza-2λ3-phospholidine with nitrile imines afforded phosphorus-containing spiro compounds of a new type, viz., 6,8-disubstituted 9-oxo-10-(2-chloroethyl)-1,4-diphenyl-1,4,7,8-tetraaza-5-phosphaspiro[4.5]-deca-6,10-dienes.

Reaction of 1-chloro-4-(diethoxyphosphonyl)alka-2,3-dienes 14,15 with purine and pyrimidine heterocyclic bases in the presence of cesium carbonate afforded new acyclic analogues of nucleotides containing a 1,2-alkadienic skeleton 18–23. Dealkylation of 18–23 furnished phosphonic acids 2a–f. In contrast, alkylation reaction with 1-chloro-4-(diethoxyphosphonyl)octa-2,3-diene 16 led to Z- and E- 1,3-alkadienic phosphonates 25a,b and 26a,b. A similar reaction with 1-chloro-4-(diethoxyphosphonyl)-2-methylbuta-2,3-diene 17 led to the elimination of hydrochloride and formation of 4-(diethylphosphonyl)-2-methylbut-1-en-3-yne 24. Molecular structures of new acyclic nucleotides 18 and 2f are determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis.

The possibility of regioselective cyclobisphosphorylation of nonsymmetrical bisphenols was shown for the 1,7-dihydroxynaphthalene–phosphorous acid triamide system. The structure and essential chemical properties of the first nonsymmetrical phosphacyclophane were studied. New data demonstrating peculiar features of bisphenol diamidophosphites were obtained. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
