Interaction of common imines with WCl 6 in organic solvents revealed very unusual features in the context of imine chemistry. Ph 2 C[double bond, length as m-dash]NH was converted in one pot into the 2-aza-allenium species [Ph 2 C[double bond, length as m-dash]N[double bond, length as m-dash]CPh 2 ] + via N 2 release, with [Ph 2 C[double bond, length as m-dash]NH 2 ] + being a co-product. PhCH[double bond, length as m-dash]N t Bu underwent C-H bond activation resulting in the formation of [C[triple bond, length as m-dash]N] containing derivatives, together with [PhCH[double bond, length as m-dash]NH t Bu] + .

Using the deoxycholic acid derived tropos biphenylphosphite as a Rh(i) chiral ligand different complexes are obtained, depending on the Rh : L molar ratio, that give rise to the formation of different chiral products in the asymmetric addition of phenylboronic acid to cyclohexenone.

The reaction with water of acyldicarbonyl-Ru(II) complexes relevant to ruthenium catalysed ethene hydrocarbonylation with CO/H2O is shown to consist of a nucleophilic attack and to proceed via coordination of propionate and CO to the Ru(II) species.

The reaction of propionic anhydride with [fac-Ru(C(O)Et)-(CO)2(H2O)3][CF3SO3] produces a new propylidin dipropionato group, which behaves as a tridentate ligand giving the neutral complex Ru(CEt(OC(O)Et)2)(CO)2(CF3SO3).
