The synthesis of chabazite with high solid yields is achieved by the rational combination of directing effects of a source of Si and Al coming from USY zeolites and the inexpensive tetraethylammonium. Moreover, Cu-CHA materials prepared by post-synthetic and "one-pot'' methodologies show high activity and stability for SCR of NOx., Financial support from the Spanish Government-MINECO through "Severo Ochoa'' (SEV 2012-0267), Consolider Ingenio 2010-Multicat, MAT2012-37160 and, Intramural-201480I015 is acknowledged. Zeolite ITQ-7 containing germanium emits luminescence upon excitation at the wavelength of the absorption maxima; control experiments with amorphous GeO2 and all-silica zeolites indicate that the emission is attributable to Ge atoms occupying framework positions; the emission decays on the nanosecond time scale and it fits to variable proportions of three exponential kinetics, this being compatible with the presence of three families of Ge atoms in the solid.

Pure polymorph C (denoted ITQ-17) resulting from the intergrowth of zeolite Beta has been synthesized in the presence of Ge from a fluoride-free synthesis mixture; this shows that fluoride is not necessary to obtain structures containing D4MR units that were believed to be stabilised by fluoride; on the other hand, the presence of Ge directs the synthesis towards the formation of pure polymorph C.

Incorporation of germanium into a zeolite framework allows the synthesis of Ti-Ge-ITQ-7 without seeding in 40 days without seeding for the Ge-free ITQ-7; the synthesis reported also increases the efficiency of Ti incorporation and allows the preparation of almost nanocrystaline Ti-ITQ-7 materials with a corresponding beneficial effect on the final catalytic activity.

The photochemical incorporation of PhCHNPh to the metal oxide model [{TiCp*(µ-O)}3(µ3-CH)] (Cp* = η5-C5Me5) occurs by breaking of the CN imine bond and formation of µ-imido and σ-alkenyl groups on the [Ti3O3] core; the crystal structure of the obtained product, [{TiCp*(µ-O)}3(µ-NPh)(CHCHPh)], was determined by X-ray diffraction.

The imido-nitrido complex [{Ti(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))(mu-NH)}(3)(mu(3)-N)] entraps mercury(ii) or silver(i) halides MX(n) to give cube-type adducts [X(n)M{(mu(3)-NH)(3)Ti(3)(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))(3)(mu(3)-N)}] which react with alkali metal bis(trimethylsilyl)amide reagents to afford [M(2){(mu(3)-N)(n)(mu(3)-NH)(2-n)Ti(3)(eta(5)-C(5)Me(5))(3)(mu-NH)(mu(3)-N)}(2)] (M = Hg, n = 2; M = Ag, n = 1) where two [Ti(3)N(4)] cores are linked by two mercury or silver atoms in a linear geometry.

Gold(III) complexes heterogenized on the surface of a Sn-containing MCM-41 are efficient recyclable catalysts for hydroamination reactions, without requiring any acid promoters.

The study of adsorption and dissociation of molecular hydrogen on single crystal Au(111) and Au(001) surfaces, monoatomic rows in an extended line defect and different Au nanoparticles by means of DF calculations allows us to firmly conclude that the necessary and sufficient condition for H2 dissociation is the existence of low coordinated Au atoms, regardless if they are in nanoparticles or at extended line defects.

Ti-MCM-41 materials with methylated silicons have been prepared in one step synthesis; the resultant organic–inorganic composites are highly stable and present the highest activity and selectivity ever reported on Ti containing mesoporous catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins using organic peroxides.

A new route for the synthesis of Si- and Si-Ti-MCM-48 has been developed which allows these materials to be obtained without using polar organic additives and alkali metal ions; this procedure not only produces more active and selective Ti-MCM-48 oxidation catalysts than those reported before, but also permits the synthesis of MCM-48 with controlled pore diameters.

A chiral (salen)Mn III complex [salen: trans-(R,R)-1,2-bis(salicylideneamino)cyclohexane] analogous to Jacobsen’s catalyst is prepared inside the supercages of zeolite Y, showing catalytic activity very similar to that of the chloride complex in the homogeneous phase.

Treatment of the μ3-ethylidyne complex [{TiCp*(μ-O)}3(μ3-CMe)] (1), (Cp* = η5-C5Me5) with alkali metal amides leads to the oxoheterometallocubane derivatives [M(μ3-O)3{(TiCp*)3(μ3-CCH2)}] [M = Li (2), Na (3), K (4), Rb (5), Cs (6)] containing the naked carbanion μ3-CCH2−; the addition of triphenylmethanol and tert-butanol to the compounds 2–6 gives rise to the oxoderivatives [{TiCp*(μ-O)}3(μ-CHMe)(OCR3)] [R = Me (7), Ph (8)] which show a μ-ethylidene bridge on the surface model Ti3O3.

Delaminated zeolite catalysts allow replacement of HCl in the production of DADPM: they offer higher activity and catalyst life than conventional zeolites, and their structured external surface controls product selectivity.

The compartmentalised intracrystalline void space of zeolites are specially suited to incorporate and organise photoactive guests that can be used as photocatalysts. The rigid micropores allow assembly of multicomponent systems comprising of antenna and relays reminiscent of natural photosynthetic centers. Besides inorganic metal oxide clusters, zeolites as host are particularly attractive to construct organic photocatalysts since the guest becomes significantly stabilized by incorporation. This review gives special emphasis to the commercial and potential application of photocatalysts.
