The new technology of mineral wool production with Nickel–Iron alloy waste residue has excellent prospect of development and application. The viscosity and crystallization behavior of Nickel–Iron alloy waste residue significantly influence the production process of the mineral wool. In current work, the influences of basicity on the viscosity and crystallization for four Nickel–Iron alloy waste residues have been investigated by confocal scanning laser microscope and viscometer, respectively. The crystals morphologies are characterized by field scanning electron microscope, and the compositions are analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy. According to the results, it is obvious that the experimental slag crystallization behaviors are consistent with crystallization kinetic model (Johnson-Mehl-Avrami equation). The crystallization rate, the crystal size, and the crystallization ability of Nickel–Iron alloy waste residue increases with increasing the slag basicity from 0.03 to 0.53. The main crystalline product is protopyroxene for No. 1 and No. 2 slags, and olivine for No. 3 and No. 4 slags. However, the viscosity of Nickel–Iron alloy waste residue decreases with the increase of basicity. The precipitation process of crystal has great influence on the viscosity of slag, and the influence degree of different crystal types is different. Ti–Si–Fe alloys extracted from high-titanium blast furnace slag were utilized to replace part of the silicon powders, and then nitride/oxynitride bonded SiC ceramics were prepared by reactive sintering in graphite bed. Ti–Si–Fe alloys could react with CO/N 2 at a low temperature (1200 °C), and the addition of Ti–Si–Fe alloys could reduce the nitriding temperature of Si. Density functional theory calculations suggested that Ti–Si–Fe alloys enhanced reaction activity via weakening the strength of C O and N N bonds. The regional equilibrium phase diagrams of Si–C–N–O and Ti–Si–C–N–O under CO/N 2 atmosphere were calculated by thermodynamics. The change of whiskers morphology was observed by scanning electron microscope. Furthermore, the bulk density, the cold modulus of rupture, and the cold compressive strength improved with Ti–Si–Fe alloys content. The results showed that the addition of Ti–Si–Fe alloys not only significantly promoted nitriding of Si and formation of Si 3 N 4 whiskers, but also improved the mechanical properties of the samples. The wetting behavior of glass coatings on samarium-cobalt alloys with different roughness at elevated temperatures in air was investigated by a sessile drop method. The wetting properties were analyzed through several parameters, including apparent contact angle, height and diameter of a glass cylinder on the samarium-cobalt alloy, determined by using a high temperature microscope. The morphology evolution of the glass coating was observed by using a scanning electron microscope. The results show that the glass cylinder contracts initially, and then swells followed by wetting and spreading on the samarium-cobalt alloy substrate. This process is explained by the role of air and the increase of capillary number. The dependence of apparent contact angle on surface roughness is related to interface reaction. It is concluded that the surface roughness firstly increases the contact angle, but then promotes wetting due to the wetting transition changing from the Cassie−Baxter state to the Wenzel state in the non-reactive wetting range. The surface roughness hinders the spreading of the glass melt due to the interface reaction between glass and samarium-cobalt alloys in the reactive wetting range. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was aimed to assess the effects of reinforcement nanoparticles content, on the microstructural features, mechanical properties, and corrosion-related properties of Ni-Co-Cr 2 O 3 nanocomposite coatings. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were employed in order to evaluate the microstructural features and chemical composition of the nanocomposites. Moreover, the microhardness tester and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) tests coupled with potentiodynamic polarization measurements were used to investigate the mechanical and corrosion-related properties, respectively. Results demonstrate that albeit the volume fraction of cobalt in coating, average particle size, Cr 2 O 3 nanoparticle content in coating, and microstructural features are of prime significance in determining the mentioned properties of the nanocomposite coatings, Co content is more important. Actually, Cr 2 O 3 nanoparticles serve as suitable nucleation sites for Co particles deposition throughout the microstructure. Thus, combined actions of Cr 2 O 3 nanoparticles incorporation and their optimal content ensures the nucleation of high population of Co particles, which significantly contributes to the improvement in the properties. The Ni-Co-8.9 wt%Cr 2 O 3 nanocomposite coating exhibits the superior mechanical and corrosion-related properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
