2. Genetic identification of Mom-1, a major modifier locus affecting Min-induced intestinal neoplasia in the mouse

Abstract

A locus which powerfully alters tumor number in multiple intestinal neoplasia (Min)/+animals was genetically mapped. The modifier of Min-1 (Mom-1) maps to distal chromosome 4. Allelic variation in Mom-1 seems to regulate half of the genetic variation in tumor number in a pair of distinct intraspecific backcrosses. The findings confirm that the expression of an inherited cancer syndrome is influenced by a major modifier locus.
