Since 2005 the Laboratory Road IMAE National University of Rosario has implemented the WTT (Wheel Tracking Test) to evaluate the permanent deformation behavior of asphalt mixtures. The testing methodology is carried out according to the BS EN 12697-22:2003, Part 22 - Small size devices. However, the main difficulty is to have a simple and practical procedure to check in the construction site, the proportional rut depth (Prair) and the Wheel Tracking slope in air (WTSair) obtained in the WTT. This is due to the difficulties of sampling of the pavement and the test duration. In order to simplify the in situ control of asphalt mixtures, this paper presents a new simple test that allows a laboratory monitoring of the susceptibility to permanent deformation of asphalt mixtures during the mix design. This procedure aims to assess the resistance to permanent deformation of asphalt mixtures indirectly through a punch or penetration testing and its correlation with test results previously performed. It uses conventional Marshall specimens and testing equipment existing in any laboratory at the construction site. The paper describes the proposed test method to determining the control of asphalt mixtures in situ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
