Cases of severe heart damage in patients presenting with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children are one of the most intriguing phenomena during the coronavirus disease of 2019 pandemic. The pathophysiology of myocardial changes in the course of this syndrome has not been fully understood yet. We present a case of a child with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children and with cardiac changes corresponding to Takotsubo syndrome.

We report the successful use of levosimendan in the treatment of heart failure in a patient with the univentricular heart. The presented case was atypical because our patient had systemic right ventricle. To our knowledge, it is the first reported such case with intermittent levosimendan administration as an effective treatment and bridge to successful heart transplant in a patient with functionally univentricular heart.

Aim: Evaluation of possibilities of percutaneous closure of recanalised left superior caval vein after total cavopulmonary connection., Methods and Results: We analysed 19 patients after total cavopulmonary connection catheterised because of a sudden increase of desaturation. In four of them, the recanalisation of the left superior caval vein was identified. For this reason, the balloon occlusion tests of the veins were made temporarily. In all cases, the haemodynamic status of patients did not change, and arterial oxygen saturation increased significantly. Thus, using different types of implants, these veins were closed effectively in all patients. During the short-term follow-up, the effectiveness of treatments and constantly maintaining a high level of saturation were confirmed., Conclusions: Meticulous investigation of unclear causes of desaturation in cyanotic patients after Fontan completion is necessary. Almost all causes of desaturation, including recanalised additional left superior caval vein, can be effectively treated percutaneously.

The purpose of our paper is to assess the prognostic value of balloon occlusion as a test for patients with various types of functionally single ventricle after different palliative surgical procedures who were candidates for further modifications of a cavo-pulmonary operation. In all patients, there were at least two sources of pulmonary arterial supply. Our hypothesis was that, using balloon occlusion temporarily to produce changes in the haemodynamic situation, we could simulate the potential state subsequent to surgical palliation. We used balloon occlusion in 19 patients during diagnostic catheterisation, followed by interventional and or surgical procedures as considered necessary. This test was applied for temporary closure of the pulmonary valve in 8 patients, and a Blalock-Taussig anastomosis in 11 patients.
