The $400-million Harrah's casino and the $47-million redevelopment and expansion of Washington Park are projects aimed at boosting the economy in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio. More than 2,500 new parking spaces could rise up to the eastern edge of downtown Cincinnati, Ohio as public and private investors collect resources for new garage projects. These projects are expected to accommodate almost 1,500 monthly parkers who will lose access at Broadway Commons due to the construction of Harrah's casino. Cincinnati, Ohio is in the brink of getting a new corporate headquarters (HQ) due to the planned sale of the 300-employee part of the breast care division of Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc. to Devicor Medical Products Inc. The Ohio Tax Credit Authority has approved $1.5 million in tax credits for Devicor, which will invest $24 million in to the new HQ.

The city of Cincinnati, Ohio is counting on $4.2 million in federal funds to finance the construction of a U.S. Customs facility at the Lunken Airport. This facility could assist companies in saving time and money when flying international executives into Cincinnati. A $5 million project to extend Lunken's runway and $1.2 million terminal renovation project is also planned by the city.

The Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC) has laid out a proposal for the relocation of the 250-bed homeless shelter Drop Inn Center from its site in Over-the-Rhine. Redevelopment projects have been undertaken around the shelter's site. Aside from coming up with an operational plan, the 3CDC also intends to determine cost and revenue source for the shelter.

Large national companies and nonprofits have expressed interest in partnering with the 166-bed Drake Center, a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, at a time when its parent organization Health Alliance is undergoing dissolution. Drake Center, which provides medically complex and rehabilitative care, has lost $3.6 million through the first six months of fiscal 2010.

New York-based real estate investor World Properties Inc. has acquired the historic Terrace Plaza hotel complex on Sixth Street downtown in Cincinnati, Ohio. Renovation work on the Terrace Plaza might comprise the replacement of the brick facade with glass. A department store or a fine-dining restaurant could be launched on the Terrace Plaza.

Eagle Realty Group intends to spend more than $10 million restore the historic, 12-story Phelps apartment building in Lytle Park at Cincinnati, Ohio. Its president, Mario San Marco, expressed the need to invest in the apartment building to maintain its operations. The apartment building could be rebuilt into a hotel that would serve executives and consultants.

One study found that it is possible to renovate the historic buildings in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood using sustainable, or 'green' design. The neighborhood's proximity to mass transit give them an edge in the LEED rating systems used in green design.

A 4-by-13-foot section of the Berlin Wall is being planned for erection in Cincinnati, Ohio, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall. The plan is in danger of missing out on the anniversary due to a lack of time and money.

Matt Daniels, Cincinnati-based developer and owner of Bear Creek Capital LLC, has faced several lawsuits and has been known not to fulfill his commitments. The major Kenwood Towne Place project by Daniels' company is being foreclosed by the Bank of America. Details of the case are further discussed.

Bear Creek Capital LLC, developer of the stalled Kenwood Towne Place construction project in Cincinnati, Ohio, is being criminally investigated for diverting capital. Kraft Electrical Contracting, one of the 11 companies suing Bear Creek, requested the investigation for fraud, breach of contract and other claims.

The Cincinnati Cremation Co., operator of Hillside Chapel in Clifton, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. The city of Cincinnati will take over the site if no one comes forward to buy the facility. Hillside Chapels is the repository of many prominent Cincinnatians' remains including television host Ruth Lyons.

Preservation advocates are fighting to prevent demolition operations on the remaining historic buildings in Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati, Ohio. The neighborhood has an estimated 500 unoccupied buildings, 72 of which have been condemned. Over-the-Rhine is known as one of the largest and well-maintained historic districts in the United States.

The groundbreaking for The Banks project happened in April 2, 2008, however, the future of the development remains uncertain due to some unresolved issues such as financing. Developers Harold A. Dawson Co. and Carter still have to pass final financing documents to Hamilton County and Cincinnati. The issue of financial commitment for the central riverfront project is examined.

The 2007 sales of the retail industry are the slowest since the year 2003, driving retail stores to reconsider their expansion plans for 2008. A number of retail projects have been delayed, cancelled or altered, including Newport Pavilion, Rivers Crossing, Wal-Mart Supercenters, Legacy Place and Millworks. The impacts of retail slowdown on development projects are analyzed further.

A $120 million renovation is being planned for the Cincinnati Museum Center complex at Union Terminal. The project aims to build a 14-acre park and office spaces in the area. Details of the Museum Center's renovation plans are given.

Commercial developer Scott Street Partners is planning to invest $50 million for the development of a site south of the Streets of West Chester retail center. The 31-acre project will generate 1,200 jobs, and will bring in offices, restaurants and a hotel. The development plans and the features of the site are discussed as well.

The $55 million Midtown Centre project aims to develop a 4-acre Oakley site into a hotel, office and retail complex that is expected to bring $1.1 million tax revenue to Cincinnati. Seven Hills Development is responsible for the plan which is aimed to create around 1,200 jobs, a reason for the city to finance some aspects of the project. Other site developments in Cincinnati are discussed.

The Cincinnati City Council will hear presentations on financing options for the proposed $102-million streetcar system on October 9, 2007. The transport system will connect Over-the-Rhine's Findlay Market and Great American Ball Park. The funding options, which include ci ty parking bonds and state and local capital grants, are discussed.

Ridge Club announced that Crest Hills Country Club, a 133-acre property, will be offered for sale at between $5 million to $7 million. Ridge Club was formed after Crest Hills merged with the Losantiville Country Club approximately a year ago.

Cincinnati Mayor Charlie Luken declared the expansion of the Greater Cincinnati Convention and Visitors Bureau without the funding from Delta Airlines in 2003. Lisa Haller, the bureaus new president stated that their future success is based on their success to secure convention and trade show business for the convention center.

Western Southern Life Insurance Co. is promoting a plan to construct Queen City Square, the tallest office building in Cincinnati, Ohio. Eagle Realty Group, Western-Southern's subsidiary, introduced an information packet, which depicts the building's design.
