This article presents information about golfer Hal Sutton. Motivation is never a problem for Ryder Cup captains, but Hal Sutton will be carrying a special grudge when he attempts to wrest the cup from his European counterpart Bernhard Langer. As a hobby Sutton raises cutting horses, and on the golf course he has the strut of an Old West gunslinger, which is complemented by the square jaw and barrel chest of the Marlboro Man and the gravelly drawl of Hoss Cartwright. Sutton has won 14 times on the PGATour, including the 1983 PGA Championship and the 2000 Players Championship, but one of the defining moments of his career came in a conference room on the sixth floor of the Four Seasons hotel in Boston. "I believe there's more talent here on the sixth floor than there is on the fifth," he said, gesturing to the floor below, where the European team was staying. "But we've got to play with more emotion. We've got to raise our fists and get the crowd into it," Sutton says. The next day Sutton was sent out second in the U.S. lineup, and he was a fist-pumping, foot-stomping revelation, whipping his singles opponent to help generate the momentum for the Americans' historic comeback.
