Intrasplenic allogeneic transplantation of multipotent stromal cells from the umbilical cord stimulates hepatocyte proliferation and promotes recovery of liver weight in rats after subtotal resection (80% organ weight). It can be hypothesized that this effect of multipotent stromal cells is due to more rapid recovery of the number of mitochondria and normalization of mitochondrial function of liver hepatocytes.

Echocardiographic parameters were assessed in patients with non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome, who underwent emergency percutaneous coronary intervention followed by various outpatient physical cardiac rehabilitation programs. The patients underwent physical rehabilitation for 3 months under conditions of diagnostic centre in the rehabilitation unit according to the standard program including in treadmill or bicycle exercise in the exercise therapy room or with Nordic walking in the main training block. After rehabilitation course, the left ventricular mass index significantly decreased and systolic volume and left ventricular ejection fraction significantly increased in both groups. Nordic walking training for 3 months non-ST segment elevation acute coronary syndrome induced similar positive shifts in the parameters of intracardiac hemodynamics, as standard treadmill or bicycle training program, which allows considering it as an alternative cardiac rehabilitation method.

Maternal deprivation in the early postnatal period significantly affects the behavior and development of different animals. Here we studied delayed effects of daily maternal deprivation (5 h/day) on physical development and behavior of white rats during postnatal days 1 to 14. Here we studied the possibility of reducing the negative consequences of deprivation by daily intranasal treatment with Semax, an analog of ACTH(4-10), in a dose of 0.05 mg/kg from postnatal days 15 to 28. It was found that maternal deprivation decelerated the growth of young rats, boosted physical activity and emotional reactivity in novel environment, and increased anxiety in one-month-old animals. Semax weakened the impact of deprivation on animal body weight and normalized the levels of anxiety in rats.

Capillaries of the rat forepaw skeletal muscles were examined on day 14 of space mission and on days 1 and 14 after landing. Ultrastructural studies revealed apoptosis caused by muscle fiber atrophy and necrobiotic changes eventuating in coagulation or monocellular necrosis of endothelial cells. Formation of capillaries was detected, which can be regarded as an adaptive reaction to injuries caused by space mission factors.

We studied the effect of acute stress on serum melatonin concentration, content of major components in the connective tissue (uronic acids, hexosamines, and hydroxyproline), and beta-galactosidase activity in the skin of rats with different activity in the open-field test receiving intraperitoneal injections of physiological saline or melatonin. Acute stress intensified catabolism of carbohydrate components and affected characteristics of the main skin biopolymers. The content of uronic acids in connective tissue carbohydrates decreased. Collagen structures of the skin underwent less pronounced changes. The observed changes were similar in behaviorally active and passive animals. Administration of melatonin increased the contents of uronic acids and hexosamines in the skin. Pretreatment with melatonin prevented the decrease in the content of glycosaminoglycans in rat skin during acute stress.

Desynchronization of myo- and angiogenesis is observed after trauma of skeletal muscles. These processes are synchronous during prenatal development (18th day of embryogenesis).

Several months after an extensive crush injury to or replantation of a limb in rats, capillary endotheliocytes of its skeletal muscle are seen to undergo ultrastructural changes of both “dark” and “light” types. Destructive/degenerative changes of the “light” type are accompanied by intracellular edema and cytoplasmic homogenization and can eventually result in monocellular colliquative necrosis. Changes of the “dark” type are characterized by signs of functional overstrain in the endotheliocytes, succeeded by destructive/degenerative cytoplasmic changes, increased electron density of intracellular organelles, loss of distinct boundaries by the nucleus and intracellular structures, rupture of cell membranes, endothelial desquamation, and some other changes, which eventually lead to coagulation necrosis, followed by breakdown of the cell into small fragments.

In trauma of the skeletal muscle the activation of the cell surface of endotheliocytes acquires a pathological pattern. Enhanced microvilli formation and clasmatosis lead to the formation of free emboli, which results in complete occlusion of the lumen of some vessels. Enhanced formation of microvilli leads to depletion of endotheliocytes, formation of transcellular channels, and necrosis of the vascular wall.

Changes in the skin lipid composition induced by water-immersion stress in rats treated and untreated with melatonin were studied by thin-layer chromatography. Skin lipids showed a delayed reaction to stress. Melatonin exerted a protective effect which was manifested on the 2nd day after treatment in restoration of the level of total lipids and the absolute content of the majority of lipid fractions. The data suggest modification of, the metabolic relationships between skin lipids as well as lipids of the blood and subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Effects of the pineal hormone melatonin on skin lipids in Wistar rats were studied by thinlayer chromatography. The reaction was shown to be delayed. Contents of total lipids and the majority of fractions increased over 24 h after administration of melatonin. Concentrations of triglycerides and phospholipids decreased, while the contents of cholesterol, cholesterol esters, and free fatty acids increased by the end of the second day. Our findings indicate that the blood and subcutaneous fat, as well as changed metabolic interrelations of skin lipids are involved in the skin response to increased melatonin concentration.

Here we studied the effects of water-immersion emotional stress on the components of several skin biopolymers in rats. The resistance of animals to stress was determined in preliminary experiments. This model of stress induced similar effects on the studied components in stress-resistant and stress-predisposed rats.

Intricate dynamics of lipid transformations was detected in rat skin wound field during regeneration. The content of lipids increased in the granulation fibrous tissue during the early period of regeneration and decreased later. On day 23 the regeneration process was over, the formed scar tissue differed from intact skin by the content of many lipid fractions. In the crust and skin sites adjacent to the wound the regeneration was associated with significant changes in the lipid composition.

Electron microscopy of muscle spindles in m. extensor halucis longus of rats 14 days after space mission on board SLS-2 space laboratory (USA) showed structural rearrangement in the receptors. The number of intrafusal fibers increased, but some fibers developed degenerative changes. The changes were also seen in the spindle capsule, but its integrity was not impaired. Vascularization of the spindle capsule was impaired as a result of necrobiotic changes in capillary endotheliocytes. Sensory nerve endings were the most sensitive structures of the receptor. Destructive changes in various structures of the muscle spindles were paralleled by regenerative processes.

Melatonin (especially in a dose of 1.5 mg/ml) increased the total phospholipid content on day 8 of regeneration, which was primarily related to accumulation of ethanolamine- and serine-containing fractions. Melatonin in a dose of 15 mg/ml increased the concentration of choline-containing fractions on day 5 of regeneration.
