We evaluated the efficiency of a lubricant based on a pulmonary surfactant in experimental knee osteoarthritis in rats induced by intraarticular injection of abrasive material that reduces the lubricative properties of the synovial fluid. Experimental substance containing proteins of the pulmonary surfactant exhibiting natural lubricative properties was used as the lubricant. The effectiveness of the substance was analyzed by changes in morphological characteristics of the articular cartilage in 3D reconstruction images of the knee joint obtained by the method of multiple high-precision grinding. It was found that radial thickness of the articular cartilage increased and surface relief index decreased on the 6th and 12th week after administration of the substance containing surfactant proteins, which can indicate partial recovery of the articular cartilage.

The study examined the effects of millimeter electromagnetic waves at a frequency of 130 GHz corresponding to the molecular absorption and radiation spectra of NO and O2 with the total exposition time of 6 h on tumor morphogenesis in 3- and 6-month-old tumor-prone BALB/c mice of both sexes. In experimental mice exposed to electromagnetic radiation, the development of cancer process was slowed down throughout the observation period; moreover, no macroscopic signs of the tumors were revealed. However, in contrast to control mice, experimental animals demonstrated the formation of pathological reactions reflected by hepatic biochemical indices accompanied by the development of dystrophic and microcirculatory alterations in the liver tissue.

Organotypic culture was used to study the effects of glycoside ouabain and its aglycone ouaba-genin on the growth of skin explants from 10-12-day chicken embryos. The tested agents demonstrated dose-dependent inhibition of skin growth. The effective concentrations imply that ouabain and ouabagenin mediate their inhibitory effect on the skin growth via interaction with α1-isoform of Na(+),K(+)-ATPase that plays mostly the role of ionic pump.

Experimental proof of the hypothesis on modulation of the transductor function of Na+,K+-ATPase by the ouabain—Ca2+ chelate complex was obtained by the method organotypic tissue culture. Quantum chemical estimations detected two principally different modes of Ca2+ ion chelation by ouabain molecule. It is hypothesized that the ouabain—Ca2+—Na+,K+-ATPase ligand-receptor complex is formed due to ion-ion bonds. The formation of the complex serves as the signal triggering the enzyme transductor function. It is experimentally proven that ouabain is incapable of inhibiting neurite growth in sensory neuron and heart tissue explants after removal of free calcium from the nutrient medium with EGTA.

A randomized controlled study included 44 patients with acute myocardial infarction. It was found that intracoronary injection of bone marrow mononuclear cells is safe, ensures fixation of the injected cells in the myocardium, reduces blood levels of IL-1beta and TNF-alpha, increases the content insulin-like growth factor, and does not provoke malignant arrhythmias.

In experiments on rat pups we studied the effect of clonidine on potential-dependent Na+ currents in dorsal root ganglia by the voltage clamp method. Clonidine decreased the amplitude of tetrodotoxin-sensitive and tetrodotoxin-resistant sodium currents. The range of acting concentrations and the absence of modulatory effect of norepinephrine on the efficiency of clonidine-induced blockade of sodium currents suggest that this blockade results from a direct interaction of clonidine with sodium channels.

The efficiency of Proproten-100 containing antibodies to S100 protein in ultralow doses and used to relieve somatovegetative and psychoneurological manifestations of the alcohol withdrawal syndrome was studied in a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. The preparation possessed anxiolytic, sedative, hypnagogic, and vegetostabilizing properties. Proproten-100 more rapidly relieved the alcohol withdrawal syndrome than standard drugs (by 2 times). Proproten-100 may used in combination with detoxicating and symptomatic drugs to treat patients with severe disorders. The preparation did not cause side effects. Our observations indicate that Proproten-100 may be used alone (monotherapy) or in combination with standard pharmaceutics for treatment of patients with the alcohol withdrawal syndrome.

An open comparative clinical study evaluated the efficiency of Proproten-100 in reliving affective, somatovegetative, behavioral, and cognitive post-withdrawal disorders and manifestations of primary pathological alcohol addiction in patients with alcohol dependence in the stage of therapeutic remission. We compared the efficiency of Proproten-100 and standard symptomatic drugs. The preparation possessed anxiolytic, antidepressant, and vegetostabilizing properties, produced a moderate soporific effect, and had no sedative activity in patients with dysphoric depressions and psychopathic disorders. Proproten-100 was more effective during the therapy of patients with anxious and wistful depressions. Proproten-100 increased the contents of IgG and natural antibodies against S100 protein in the blood from patients. The preparation did not cause side effect or development of tolerance. Proproten-100 has psychotropic properties and holds much promise for long-term treatment of patients with alcohol dependence to reduce the incidence of recurrences.

The substitutive effects of potentiated ANAR (affinely purified antibodies to morphine hydrochloride in dilutions C30 and C200) used to relieve the opium withdrawal syndrome in 149 patients with heroin abuse were studied in an open standardized clinical trial. Over the first 2 days of therapy the preparation produced the vegetostabilizing, sedative, anxiolytic, neuroprotective, and moderate analgetic effects. During the therapy of patients with opium intoxication ANAR delayed the appearance of symptoms for the opium withdrawal syndrome by 18-30 h. This phenomenon allows us to shorten the period of urgent therapy and decrease doses of symptomatic drugs. Our results show that ANAR possesses substitutive properties and may be used to relieve the opium withdrawal syndrome and post-withdrawal disorders resulting from heroin abuse in remission.
