The stratigraphic section of Euboea island (Greece) contains Kimmeridgian limestone, a diabase-radiolarite, and a transgressive upper Cretaceous massive limestone. Cenomanian and Maestrichtian beds are recognized with flysch deposits in the Maestrichtian and younger series. The sequence is part of a southwest plunging monocline with two fault systems: a principal NW-SE and a secondary NE-SW system. The first is believed to be pre-Pliocene and the second post-Pliocene. A metamorphic zone in the northeast consists of marbles and sericite schists with some trachyandesitic volcanics.
