Abstract

The article examines cardiovascular risk associated with the use of macrolide antibiotics clarithromycin. Topics covered include the findings that clarithromycin is associated with increased risk for arrhythmia, cardiac mortality and myocardial infarction and the need for patients and clinicians to consider the potentially serious adverse events associated with the use of macrolides.
