Background: Within the NICU, there is a delicate equilibrium between providing assistance to parents by nurses and prioritising family-centred care (FCC). The FCC assumes the role of a mediator, effectively conveying compassion. The intricate dynamics between FCC, parental nurse support, and parental stress in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) necessitate comprehensive investigation. Objective: This study examines the mediating effect of FCC on the relationship between parental nurse support and parental stress in NICUs. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study used convenience sampling to select 223 parents (202 mothers) from Mansoura City hospitals in Egypt. Data were collected using the Nurse Parent Support Tool (NPST), Family-Centered Care Self-Assessment Tool (FCCS-NICU), and the Parental Stressor Scale: NICU (PSS: NICU). Mediation analysis was used to examine the relationships between variables. Results: Nurse support was positively associated with FCC (β = 0.81, p < 0.001) and negatively related to parental stress (β=-1.156, p < 0.001). FCC was found to reduce parental stress (β=-0.18, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis confirmed that FCC partially mediated the relationship between nurse support and parental stress (indirect effect β = 0.145, 95% CI: 0.055–1.007). Conclusions: This study highlights a significant association in the mediating role of FCC between nurse support and parental stress. Strengthening FCC practices can be an effective strategy for nurses to support parents and alleviate their stress in NICU settings. Implications to practice: NICUs should implement FCC-oriented training for nurses, foster a culture that supports FCC principles, and develop policies to establish FCC as a cornerstone of neonatal care. Background: Despite the challenge of nursing shortage in the world and its subsequent impact on care quality as well as aggravation of the situation by intention to leave service, this issue has not been properly addressed, especially among neonatal and pediatric nurses. The present study aims to identify the relationship between mental workload and musculoskeletal disorders with intention to leave the service among nurses working at neonatal and pediatric departments. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 145 nurses working at neonatal and pediatric departments in six hospitals in Bushehr Province using full-census method. The data were collected using national aeronautics and space administration-task load index (NASA-TLX), Cornell musculoskeletal discomfort questionnaire(CMDQ) and Mobley and Horner's voluntary turnover questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson's and Spearman correlation tests and hierarchical linear regression in simultaneous model in SPSS 19.0. Results: The mean score of intention to leave the service was 9.57 ± 3.20 (higher than the moderate level) and the mean mental workload was 71.65 ± 15.14 (high level). Pain in at least one of the legs (100%), back (77.3%) and knees (76.6%) was highly prevalent. However, no statistically significant correlation was found between musculoskeletal disorder categories and intention to leave the service (p > 0.05). The regression analysis results revealed among mental workload domains, only effort-induced workload was negatively and significantly correlated with intention to leave the service (p = 0.003; β=-0.078). However, the number of night shifts per month was positively and significantly correlated with intention to leave the service (p = 0.001; β = 0.176). Conclusions: Planning for appropriate allocation of night shifts, investigating the etiology of musculoskeletal disorders and providing solutions for reducing mental workload should be prioritized by policymakers, while maintaining pediatric nurses' motivation for making efforts. Background: Intensive care units (ICUs) are often too noisy, exceeding 70–80 dBA, which can have negative effects on staff. The corresponding recommendation of the World Health Organization (average sound pressure level below 35 dBA) is often not achieved. To date there is a lack of intervention studies examining the extent to which unit-based noise management in ICUs contributes to a reduction in noise exposure for the staff. The study therefore aims to provide answers to 1) how unit-based noise management sustainably reduces the subjective noise exposure among staff, and 2) how this intervention affects other noise-related topics. Methods: We performed a monocentric prospective longitudinal study with three measurement points in a German university hospital in three ICUs. We collected data from different healthcare professionals and other professional groups between October 2021 and August 2022 using an online questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inference statistics. Results: A total of n = 179 participants took part in the surveys. The majority of participants were nurses or pediatric nurses. Most participants worked more than 75% full-time equivalent. Staff on the three ICUs reported high levels of noise exposure. No significant changes in noise exposure over time were observed. Participants were already aware of the topic and believed that a behavior change could positively influence the noise environment. Conclusions: This study provides an initial insight into how a unit-based noise management could contribute to a reduction in the subjective noise exposure among staff in ICUs. The results of this study highlight the importance of this topic. Future studies should aim to research aspects of adherence and their facilitators or barriers, which promote the sustained implementation of noise-reducing measures by staff. Background: Neonatal nurses' working environments are highly stressful, and burnout is common. This study examines the effect of socioeconomic factors, perceived stress, and social support on neonatal nurse burnout. Methods: A total of 311 neonatal nurses participated in this study. They were administered a validated Maslach Burnout Inventory. The study employed a 14-item perceived stress scale (PSS-14) and a social support rate scale (SSRS) to examine stress, socioeconomic factors, and lifestyles. Results: Of the neonatal nurses, 40.19% had burnout, 89.60% had mild burnout, and 10.40% had moderate burnout; no neonatal nurse experienced severe burnout. Young nurses and those with low technical skills, poor interpersonal relationships, irregular diet, and insufficient rest were exposed to burnout (all p < 0.05).Most burnout nurses experienced moderate-severe perceived stress, and their PSS-14 scores were higher (all p < 0.05).The scores for objective social support, subjective social support, utilization of social support, total SSRS scores, and the level of social support were all lower in burnout nurses (all p < 0.05). Perceived stress was correlated positively and significantly with emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment (all p < 0.05). Social support correlated significantly with and reduced personal accomplishments (p < 0.05). Age, poor interpersonal relationships, perceived stress, and social support were all independent factors associated with neonatal nurse burnout (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of burnout in neonatal nurses was higher than average. Socioeconomic factors, higher perceived stress, and lower social support contribute to neonatal nurse burnout. Nursing managers should pay attention to socioeconomic factors, perceived stress, and social support among neonatal nurses and employ strategies to reduce neonatal nurse burnout. Background: Nurses working in pediatric wards should communicate with children well and have appropriate caring behaviors according to the age of their patients, so distance education is very suitable for them due to its availability. This study aimed to determine the effect of online education on the principles of pediatric nursing care on the caring behaviors of nurses working in pediatric wards. Methods: This interventional (quasi-experimental) study used a simple random method to select 70 nurses working in pediatric wards and pediatric intensive care units in Kerman. The nurses in the intervention group received online training in the sky room three days a week, while nurses in the control group received routine pediatric care. The study instruments were the demographic information questionnaire and the Caring behaviors Questionnaire, which were completed by two groups before and one month after the intervention. Data were analyzed with SPSS 25. The significance level was set at P < 0.05. Results: The independent samples t-test indicated no significant differences in the mean scores of care behaviors between the intervention (256.61 ± 5.16) and control groups (257.52 ± 3.99) before the intervention (P = 0.23) but indicated a significant difference in the mean scores of caring behaviors between the intervention (275.69 ± 6.52) and control groups (254.21 ± 3.15) after the intervention. Therefore, online education increased the score of caring behaviors in the intervention group. Conclusion: Distance education had an impact on the caring behaviors of nurses in pediatric wards and we recommend the use of e-learning to improve the caring behaviors and the quality of care of nurses. Compared to adult patients, PIVC fixation issues are more likely to occur in pediatric patients and can be more complex. However, research on PIVC fixation in pediatric patients is rare. This study aimed to investigate the pass rate for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients and the factors that influence pediatric nurses’ knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) concerning PIVC fixation. Methods An on-site investigation using a self-designed PIVC fixation standard inspection checklist for first insertion and routine maintenance in pediatric patients and a follow-up questionnaire survey investigating pediatric nurses’ KAP concerning PIVC fixation was conducted in a hospital in China between November 1 and December 31, 2019. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. Results The pass rate for PIVC fixation in pediatric patients was 52.02%. The pediatric nurses’ knowledge, attitude and practice scores on PIVC fixation were 7.2 ± 1.36, 28.03 ± 2.42, and 31.73 ± 2.94, respectively.
