Background: Cervical cancer is a tumor with high morbidity and mortality. The importance of inflammatory and metabolic parameters affecting progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) has been investigated more intensively recently. We aimed to investigate the effect of glucose/c-reactive protein (CRP) ratio [GCR], which shows these two parameters together, on PFS in cervical cancer. Methods: We retrospectively included 90 patients with adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix. The effects of clinical variables, inflammatory and glycemic parameters on PFS and OS were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. The data were compared with the healthy control group of 90 individuals using the independent t test. The effect of parameters on mortality was analyzed using ROC curves and cut off values were determined. Results: Glucose, CRP, CRP/lymphocyte ratio (CLR) and GCR were statistically significant in predicting mortality (p < 0.05). Disease stage, glucose, CRP, CLR and GCR were associated with overall survival. CRP, CLR and GCR were associated with progression-free survival (p < 0.05). In multivariate analysis, GCR was prognostic for PFS (p = 0.025). GCR was statistically significant while compared with the patient and healthy control group (p < 0.001). Conclusion: In cervical cancer, GCR rate was found to be prognostic independent of stage. Higher GCR rate was associated with longer PFS duration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Some biomarkers collected from routine laboratory tests have shown important value in cancer prognosis. The study aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of routine laboratory biomarkers in patients with endometrial cancer (EC) and to develop credible prognostic nomogram models for clinical application. Methods: A total of 727 patients were randomly divided into a training set and a validation set. Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate each biomarker's prognostic value, and independent prognostic factors were used to generate overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) nomgrams. The efficacy of the nomograms were evaluated by Harrell's concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, decision curve analysis (DCA), calibration curves, X-tile analysis and Kaplan‒Meier curves. Results: Ten significant biomarkers in multivariate Cox analysis were integrated to develop OS and PFS nomograms. The C-indices of the OS- nomogram in the training and validation sets were 0.885 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.810–0.960) and 0.850 (95% CI, 0.761–0.939), respectively; those of the PFS- nomogram in the training and validation sets were 0.903 (95% CI, 0.866–0.940) and 0.825 (95% CI, 0.711–0.939), respectively. ROC, DCA and calibration curves showed better clinical application value for the nomograms incorporating routine laboratory biomarkers. X-tile analysis and Kaplan‒Meier curves showed that the nomograms were stable and credible in evaluating patients at different risks. Conclusions: Nomogram models incorporating routine laboratory biomarkers, including NLR, MLR, fibrinogen, albumin and AB blood type, were demonstrated to be simple, reliable and favourable in predicting the outcomes of patients with EC. Background: Few studies have focused on the impact of single-organ pulmonary metastases on progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Recognizing differences in prognosis and chemotherapeutic efficacy based on metastasized organs may help in optimizing treatment strategies. The exploratory study was conducted to evaluate the comparative clinical outcomes and prognoses of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer presenting with single-organ pulmonary metastases and treated with folinic acid, 5-fluorouracil, irinotecan, and vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors as second-line chemotherapy. Methods: This retrospective study included 289 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer treated with second-line folinic acid, 5-fluorouracil, irinotecan, and vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors. The response rate, disease control rate, progression-free survival, and overall survival were assessed in the participants. Results: Among the 289 patients enrolled, 26 (9.0%) had single-organ pulmonary metastasis with left-sided primary locations, lower levels of tumor markers at the initiation point of chemotherapy, a significantly higher disease control rate (96.2% vs. 76.7%, P =.02), and a longer progression-free survival (median 29.6 months vs. 6.1 months, P <.001) and overall survival (median 41.1 months vs. 18.7 months, P <.001) than patients with other forms of metastatic colorectal cancer. Multivariate analysis showed that single-organ pulmonary metastasis was an independent predictor of longer progression-free survival (hazard ratio 0.35, P =.00075) and overall survival (hazard ratio 0.2, P =.006). Conclusion: Single-organ pulmonary metastasis was a strong predictor of progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer treated with folinic acid, 5-fluorouracil, irinotecan, and vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitors as second-line chemotherapy; this provides preliminary evidence for medical guidelines and clinical decision-making on novel therapeutic strategies for these patients.
