A study conducted in Warsaw, Poland investigated whether feto-maternal transfusion, the transfer of fetal blood cells to the mother during pregnancy, was different in singleton and twin pregnancies. Blood samples were taken from women with singleton and twin pregnancies, and flow cytometry tests were used to detect fetal red blood cells and maternal F cells. The study found that feto-maternal transfusion may be related to the multiplicity and chorionicity of pregnancy.
