Reports that the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service (ARS) will sponsor a symposium, Biotic Diversity and Germplasm Preservation--Global Imperatives, in May 1988 at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. Inclusion of invited papers, invited and contributed poster presentations, demonstrations of computer technology, and visits to ARS laboratories in the symposium; Focus of the program on the needs and opportunities to preserve and use both naturally occurring and engineered diversity; Sponsorship of the symposium by ARS in collaboration with the Friends of Agricultural Research in Beltsville, MD, and the Committee on Managing Global Genetic Resources of the National Research Council's Board on Agriculture in Washington, D.C.
