Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) remain a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality globally, particularly in developing countries such as Ethiopia. Periodic assessments of IPI prevalence are essential prerequisite for effective control measures. Therefore, this cross‐sectional study is aimed at determining the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections and associated risk factors among schoolchildren at Wonji Shoa Secondary School, East Shoa Zone, Adama district, Oromia region, Ethiopia, between January and June 2022. A simple random stratified sampling technique was employed to select participants. Sociodemographic and risk factor data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Stool samples were examined to identify parasites. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Descriptive statistics, chi‐square tests, and logistic regression were conducted to assess associations between variables and then the strength of the association. A p value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Of the 403 selected students, 330 completed the study that makes 81.89% response success. The overall IPI prevalence was 16.66% (55/330), with a higher prevalence among males (60%, 33/55) than females (40%, 22/55). Five parasite species were identified: two protozoa (Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia) with a combined prevalence of 9.70% (32/330) and three helminths (Ascaris lumbricoides, Hymenolepis nana, and Taenia spp.) with a combined prevalence of 6.97% (23/330). Cysts were detected in 62.5% of E. histolytica cases (15/24), and eggs were detected in 76.92% of A. lumbricoides cases (10/13). The study revealed a substantial IPI prevalence (16.66%) among the students. This finding underscores the need for effective prevention and control strategies. The predominance of parasitic infections among males is notable requiring further investigation of the factors. The identification of multiple parasite species indicates a complex epidemiological scenario. Background: The potential link between alopecia areata (AA) and eosinophilia is unclear, as well as its clinical manifestations in these patients' subsets. Methods: This is a monocentric retrospective observational study in which clinical and laboratory data were summarized and evaluated the AA subset with concurrent eosinophilia. Results: In a sample of 205 AA patients, 38 (18.5%) were classified as AA with eosinophilia. Interestingly, this subset of patients had a statistically higher prevalence of atopia and nail abnormalities (p < 0.05) than AA without eosinophilia. AA patients with eosinophilia had a 3.70 higher odds of more severe hair loss versus age‐ and gender‐matched AA without eosinophilia. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is a life‐threatening complication of cirrhosis that can increase healthcare utilization. The impact of albumin administration timing on hospital resource utilization and its optimal timing is unclear, despite its efficacy in improving survival for cirrhosis patients with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the influence of the timing of albumin administration on the length of stay and total hospital cost for patients with cirrhosis and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis who require fluid resuscitation. The study utilized de‐identified data from Cerner Health Facts® data. Adult inpatients with a diagnosis of cirrhosis and SBP receiving ≥1 antibiotic and fluid resuscitation between January 1, 2009, and April 30, 2018, were included and stratified by albumin administration timing: ≤24 hours from hospital admission ("timely albumin") or >24 hours of admission or no albumin ("non‐timely albumin"). We used a Kaplan‐Meier curve with log‐rank test to evaluate the association between timing of albumin administration and time to hospital discharge and a generalized linear model to examine the association between albumin timing and total hospital costs. We identified 1,308 hospitalizations, of which 301 contained valid cost data. The timely albumin group had a median time to discharge of 6.95 days compared to 7.78 days in the non‐timely group (p = 0.02). Cost model showed that receiving timely albumin incurred 16% lower costs (p = 0.027) than patients in the non‐timely albumin group. Timely albumin administration with an antibiotic regimen may shorten the length of stay and lower costs, thereby reducing hospital resource utilization in patients with cirrhosis and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis requiring fluid resuscitation. Diabetes has a significant global prevalence. Chronic hyperglycemia affects multiple organs and tissues, including bones. A large number of diabetic patients develop osteoporosis; however, the precise relationship between diabetes and osteoporosis remains incompletely elucidated. The activation of the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway hinders the differentiation of osteoblasts and weakens the process of bone formation due to the presence of advanced glycation end products. High glucose environment can induce ferroptosis of osteoblasts and then develop osteoporosis. Hyperglycemia also suppresses the secretion of sex hormones, and the reduction of testosterone is difficult to effectively maintain bone mineral density. As diabetes therapy, thiazolidinediones control blood glucose by activating PPAR-γ. Activated PPAR-γ can promote osteoclast differentiation and regulate osteoblast function, triggering osteoporosis. The effects of metformin and insulin on bone are currently controversial. Currently, there are no appropriate tools available for assessing the risk of fractures in diabetic patients, despite the fact that the occurrence of osteoporotic fractures is considerably greater in diabetic individuals compared to those without diabetes. Further improving the inclusion criteria of FRAX risk factors and clarifying the early occurrence of osteoporosis sites unique to diabetic patients may be an effective way to diagnose and treat diabetic osteoporosis and reduce the risk of fracture occurrence. Background. There is no conclusive evidence on the association between interleukin- (IL-) 6 gene polymorphism and type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM). Thus, this study is aimed at evaluating the role of rs1800795 and rs1800796 polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of type 2 DM among Ghanaians in the Ho Municipality. Materials and Methods. We recruited into this hospital-based case-control study 174 patients with type 2 DM (75 DM alone and 99 with DM+HTN) and 149 healthy individuals between 2018 and 2020. Demographic, lifestyle, clinical, anthropometric, and haemodynamic variables were obtained. Fasting blood samples were collected for haematological, biochemical, and molecular analyses. Genomic DNA was extracted, amplified using Tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (T-ARMS-PCR) technique, and genotyped for IL-6 gene polymorphism. Logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the association between IL-6 gene polymorphism and type 2 DM. Results. The minor allele frequency (MAF) of the rs1800795 and rs1800796 polymorphisms was higher in DM alone (57.5%, 62.0%) and DM with HTN groups (58.3%, 65.3%) than controls (33.1%, 20.0%). Carriers of the rs1800795GC genotype (aOR = 2.35 , 95% CI: 1.13-4.90, p = 0.022) and mutant C allele (aOR = 2.41 , 95% CI: 1.16-5.00, p = 0.019) as well as those who carried the rs1800796GC (aOR = 8.67 , 95% CI: 4.00-18.90, p < 0.001) and mutant C allele (aOR = 8.84 , 95% CI: 4.06-19.26, p = 0.001) had increased odds of type 2 DM. For both polymorphisms, carriers of the GC genotype had comparable levels of insulin, HOMA-IR, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) with those who carried the GG genotype. IL-6 levels were higher among carriers of the rs1800796GC variant compared to carriers of the rs1800796GG variant (p = 0.023). The rs1800796 polymorphism, dietary sugar intake, and exercise status, respectively, explained approximately 3% (p = 0.046), 3.2% (p = 0.038 , coefficient = 1.456), and 6.2% (p = 0.004 , coefficient = − 2.754) of the variability in IL-6 levels, suggesting weak effect sizes. Conclusion. The GC genotype and mutant C allele are risk genetic variants associated with type 2 DM in the Ghanaian population. Background. Although neonatal sepsis is a major public health problem contributing to 30-50% of neonatal deaths in low- and middle-income countries, data on predictors of time to death are limited in Eastern Ethiopia. This study is aimed at determining predictors of time to death among neonates with sepsis admitted in public hospitals in Eastern Ethiopia. Methods. An institutional-based retrospective cohort study was conducted among 415 neonates admitted to referral hospitals in Eastern Ethiopia with sepsis from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021. Data were collected from medical records by using structured checklist and entered using EpiData 3.1 and analyzed using Stata 17. The Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank tests were used to describe survival experience among different categories. The proportional hazard assumption and goodness of fit for the Cox regression model were checked. The Cox regression model was used to identify the significant predictors. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Finally, statistical significance was set at a p value < 0.05 in the Cox regression analysis. Results. Of the 415 neonates with neonatal sepsis, 71 (17.1%) (95% CI: 13.60-21.08) died at discharge, with a median time to death of 14 days. The overall incidence rate of mortality was 36.5 per 1000 neonate days. Low birthweight (AHR = 2.50 ; 95% CI: 1.15-5.44), maternal age ≥ 35 years (AHR = 3.17 ; 95% CI: 1.11, 9.04), low fifth-minute Apgar score (AHR: 2.32; 95% CI: 1.30-4.14), and late initiation of breastfeeding (AHR = 4.82 ; 95% CI: 1.40-16.65) were independent predictors of mortality among neonates with sepsis. Conclusions. Almost one in five neonates with sepsis died at discharge. Objective. To analyze the menstrual characteristics of endometrial carcinoma and investigate whether abnormal uterine bleeding in the perimenopausal period differs from postmenopausal bleeding. Methods. We conducted a retrospective analysis of 928 cases of endometrial carcinoma in patients admitted from January 2016 to December 2022. We gathered fundamental clinical data and analyzed distinct clinical risk factors between the perimenopausal and postmenopausal groups. Furthermore, we computed the statistical variances in menarche, regular menstrual cycles, and the duration of abnormal uterine bleeding. Results. Perimenopausal patients with endometrial carcinoma exhibit similar factors to postmenopausal patients, especially if they have a history of menstrual cycles lasting more than 30 years, hypertension, abnormal uterine bleeding for over 1 year, and a high risk of endometrial carcinoma. Early intervention for abnormal uterine bleeding during the perimenopausal stage can prevent up to 80% of women from developing endometrial carcinoma. Conclusion. Perimenopause women experiencing abnormal uterine bleeding should be mindful of the risk of endometrial carcinoma, as this awareness can substantially decrease the occurrence of the disease. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) that controls chloride current. A number of different CFTR transgenic mouse lines have been developed and subjected to both acute and chronic infection models. However, prior studies showed no substantial differences in bacterial clearance between CF and non-CF mice after single inoculations. Here, using F508del transgenic CF mice, we examined the role of repeated acute Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) infection, with the second inoculation 7 days after the first. We found that CF mice were more susceptible to PA infection than non-CF mice following the second inoculation, with non-CF mice showing better neutrophil recruitment and effector functions. We further investigated the characteristics of lung immune cells using single-cell RNA sequencing, finding that non-CF lung neutrophils had more prominent upregulation of adhesion molecules including intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) compared to CF lung neutrophils. Although people with CF are often colonized with bacteria and have high numbers of neutrophils in the airways during chronic infection, these data suggest that CF neutrophils have deficient effector functions in the setting of repeated acute infection. Background. This is the first systematic review of the relationship between humeral shaft fractures and radial nerve palsy in children. The present comprehensive review is aimed at identifying important clinical findings between humeral diaphysis fractures and radial nerve injuries and assessing the effects of treatment. Methods. We searched electronic bibliographic databases, including PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Knowledge, until March 2022. This systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses and the patients, interventions, comparisons, outcomes guidelines. Results. We identified 23 original papers, of which 10 were eligible for further analysis. Cases of 32 young patients with radial nerve palsy were identified and analyzed. The prevalence of radial nerve palsy was 4.34% (eight cases out of 184 patients with humeral shaft fractures). The radial nerve was most often associated with a simple transverse fracture (12A3, 17 cases (65.4%)). Conclusions. Radial nerve injury in humeral shaft fractures in children is rare, with a frequency of 4.34%. We highly recommend early surgical nerve exploration with transverse fractures in the distal third segment combined with primary radial palsy. Furthermore, we recommend making thoughtful decisions regarding early nerve exploration in the Holstein–Lewis fractures. Ossification of the ligaments progresses slowly in the initial stages, and most patients are unaware of the disease until obvious myelopathy symptoms appear. Consequently, treatment and clinical outcomes are not satisfactory. This study is aimed at developing an automated system for the detection of the thoracic ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) using deep learning and plain radiography. We retrospectively reviewed the data of 146 patients with thoracic OPLL and 150 control cases without thoracic OPLL. Plain lateral thoracic radiographs were used for object detection, training, and validation. Thereafter, an object detection system was developed, and its accuracy was calculated. The performance of the proposed system was compared with that of two spine surgeons. The accuracy of the proposed object detection model based on plain lateral thoracic radiographs was 83.4%, whereas the accuracies of spine surgeons 1 and 2 were 80.4% and 77.4%, respectively. Our findings indicate that our automated system, which uses a deep learning-based method based on plain radiographs, can accurately detect thoracic OPLL. The anti-dementia effect following ischemic stroke with metabolic syndrome (MetS) of the polyherbal functional ingredient comprising ginger, Chinese date, and wood ear mushroom (GCJ) was hypothesized due to its neuroprotective effect against stroke. This study was performed to test this hypothesis and to explore the underlying mechanism. Male Wistar rats weighing 180-220 g were induced metabolic syndrome (MetS) with a 16-week high-carbohydrate high-fat diet (HCHF) feeding. The rats with MetS characteristics were orally administered GCJ at various doses (GCJ100, GCJ200, and GCJ300 mg kg-1 BW) 21 days pre-induction and 21 days post-induction of reperfusion injury (I/R) at the right middle cerebral artery (MCAO). Memory was evaluated every 7 days during the study period. At the end of the study, neuron density, AChE activity, and the expressions of eNOS, BDNF, and pERK/ERK in the prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus were also determined. MetS rats with GCJ treatment improved memory impairment, enhanced neuron density, and increased the expressions of eNOS, BDNF, and pERK/ERK but suppressed AChE in both areas. Therefore, the anti-dementia effect following ischemic stroke with metabolic syndrome of GCJ may involve the improvement of AChE, eNOS, BDNF, pERK/ERK, and neural plasticity. Trypanosomiasis is an important but neglected tropical diseases which continues to cause morbidity and mortality on a large scale in sub-Saharan Africa. In the present study, the aqueous leaf extract, flavonoid fraction, and subfractions of the flavonoid from A. senegalensis leaves were evaluated for their antitrypanosomal activities, effects on some hematological parameters, and some liver-based enzymes in mice infected with Trypanosoma brucei brucei. Mice treated with aqueous extract at a concentration range of 100–400 mg kg bw exhibited parasite inhibition range between 66.08 and 73.09% while mice treated with the flavonoid fraction (50-200 mg/kg bw) exhibited higher parasite inhibition (83.37-86.38%). Mice treated with subfractions of the flavonoids showed a significant decrease in parasite count (p < 0.05), with subfraction 3 completely clearing parasites in the circulation after twenty-one days of treatment. Biochemical analysis revealed that the subfraction 3 restored the alterations in the serum aspartate transaminase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT), and total protein concentrations that were observed in the infected nontreated mice. The subfraction 3 was subsequently characterized by HPLC analysis which revealed the presence of rutin (RT: 22.26, 65.34 ppm) as the most abundant bioactive compound that could be attributed to the bioactivity of the subfraction 3. Other polyphenolic compounds identified included gallic acid (RT: 4.39, 0.578 ppm), quercetin (RT: 37.27, 0.729 ppm), kaempferol (RT: 38.33, 1.52 ppm), and luteolin (RT; 39.173, 32.77 ppm). Taken together, subfraction 3 of the flavonoid fraction from of A. senegalensis demonstrated potent antitrypanosomal activities and therefore represents a reserve of bioactive metabolite worthy of further exploration for the treatment of trypanosomiasis. Objective. To evaluate whether traditional Chinese medicine compound preparations (TCMCPs) are associated with rheumatoid arthritis- (RA-) related complications (including readmission, Sjogren's syndrome, surgical treatment, and all-cause death) in patients with RA. Methods. Clinical outcome data were retrospectively collected from patients with RA discharged from the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine from January 2009 to June 2021. The propensity score matching method was used to match baseline data. Multivariate analysis was conducted to analyze sex, age, the incidence of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia and identify the risk of readmission, Sjogren's syndrome, surgical treatment, and all-cause death. Users of TCMCP and nonusers of TCMCP were defined as the TCMCP and non-TCMCP groups, respectively. Results. A total of 11,074 patients with RA were included in the study. The median follow-up time was 54.85 months. After propensity score matching, the baseline data of TCMCP users corresponded with those of non-TCMCP users, with 3517 cases in each group. Retrospective analysis revealed that TCMCP significantly reduced clinical, immune, and inflammatory indices in patients with RA, and these indices were highly correlated. Notably, the composite endpoint prognosis for treatment failure in TCMCP users was better than that in non-TCMCP users (HR = 0.75 (0.71-0.80)). The risk of RA-related complications in TCMCP users with high-exposure intensity (HR = 0.669 (0.650-0.751)) and medium-exposure intensity (HR = 0.796 (0.691-0.918)) was significantly lower than those in non-TCMCP users. An increase in exposure intensity was associated with a concomitant decrease in the risk of RA-related complications. Conclusion. The use of TCMCPs, as well as long-term exposure to TCMCPs, may lower RA-related complications, including readmission, Sjogren's syndrome, surgical treatment, and all-cause death, in patients with RA. Objectives. Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) contributes to poor aneurysm prognosis. Subarachnoid hemorrhage and DCI have irreversible and severe consequences once they occur; therefore, early prediction and prevention are important. We investigated the risk factors for postoperative complications of DCI in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) requiring mechanical ventilation in intensive care and validated a prediction model. Methods. We retrospectively analyzed patients with aSAH who were treated in a French university hospital neuro-ICU between January 2010 and December 2015. The patients were randomized into a training group (144) and verification groups (60). Nomograms were validated in the training and verification groups, where receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to verify model discrimination; calibration curve and Hosmer-Lemeshow test were used to determine model calibration; and decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to verify clinical validity of the model. Results. External ventricular drain (EVD), duration of mechanical ventilation, and treatment were significantly associated in the univariate analysis; EVD and rebleeding were significantly associated with the occurrence of DCI after aSAH. Binary logistic regression was used to select five clinicopathological characteristics to predict the occurrence of DCI in patients with aSAH requiring mechanical ventilation nomograms of the risk of DCI. Area under the curve values for the training and verification groups were 0.768 and 0.246, with Brier scores of 0.166 and 0.163, respectively. Hosmer-Lemeshow calibration test values for the training and verification groups were x 2 = 3.824 (P = 0.923) and x 2 = 10.868 (P = 0.285), respectively. Calibration curves showed good agreement. DCA indicated that the training and verification groups showed large positive returns in the broad risk range of 0-77% and 0-63%, respectively. Conclusions. The predictive model of concurrent DCI in aSAH has theoretical and practical values and can provide individualized treatment options for patients with aSAH who require mechanical ventilation. In order to explore the clinical efficacy of knowledge, information, and action theory combined with clinical nursing in children with asthmatic bronchitis (AB) and to analyze the influencing factors of poor prognosis, a total of 98 children with AB in our hospital from January 2021 to August 2022 are collected. The baseline data are analyzed and are randomly divided into a combination group (n = 49) and a single group (n = 49). The experimental results show that the baseline data of the research subjects are not comparable (P > 0.05), the clinical efficacy of the combined group is higher than that of the single group, and the level of pulmonary function indexes in the combined group is significantly higher than that of the single group (P < 0.05). The observation shows that family history, repeated respiratory virus infection, and allergy history are all risk factors affecting the prognosis of children with AB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective. Hyperandrogenaemia and insulin resistance (IR) are the main characteristics of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Here, we study to find appropriate markers predicting IR and hyperandrogenaemia of women with PCOS in northwest China. Methods. According to body mass index (BMI), 953 patients with PCOS were divided into two groups. All the patients underwent physical examination and ultrasonography and collected elbow vein blood. Their BMI, waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), LAP, VAI, homeostasis model assessment index of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and free androgen index (FAI) were calculated. Each group (normal weight and obesity/overweight) was further divided into two subgroups according to their HOMA-IR and FAI: the IR+ subgroup/IR- subgroup and FAI+ subgroup/FAI- subgroup. Furthermore, we compared the clinical indices, hormone levels, and metabolic makers separately between these groups. The correlations between these parameters and HOMA-IR or FAI were tested; sensitivity, specificity, and receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves were calculated. Results. In the obesity/overweight group, the VAI (best cut-off value: 2.27, area under the curve AUC = 0.699) and LAP (best cut-off value: 45.54, AUC = 0.680) were sensitive predictors of IR (sensitivity = 72 % and sensitivity = 67 %). Additionally, the VAI (best cut-off value: 2.13, AUC = 0.624) and LAP (best cut-off value: 51.18, AUC = 0.582) were sensitive predictors of FAI (sensitivity = 87 % and sensitivity = 64 %). In the normal weight group, BMI could preferably predict HOMA-IR (AUC = 0.717 , best cut-off value: 21.62) and HOMA-IR could preferably predict FAI (best cut-off value: 2.11, AUC = 0.648). Conclusion. Our data indicated that the VAI and LAP may contribute to the early identification of IR and hyperandrogenaemia in the obesity/overweight patients of PCOS. This study is aimed at evaluating the marginal microleakage of bulk-fill class II restorations after thermocycling. Thirty-two human third molars received class II cavities prepared on mesial and distal faces. The cavities were bonded according to the adhesive protocol (total or self-etching). The cavities were then restored with composite and divided into 8 groups based on the composite combination: layering technique with Filtek Z350XT (G1 and G5), first layer with Filtek Z350 XT Flowable Restorative and then Filtek Z350XT (G2 and G6), bulk-fill technique with Filtek One Bulk Fill (G3 and G7), and first layer with Filtek One Bulk Fill Flow and Filtek Z350 XT (G4 and G8). The restorations were then subjected to thermocycling (2000 cycles, 5°C and 55°C, dwell time of 30 s). After aging, the restored teeth were immersed in methylene blue for 48 hours. The restorations (n = 32) were sectioned in the middle (two sections). The microleakage results were analyzed by two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test (α = 0.05). The groups did not differ statistically from each other in terms of marginal microleakage (p = 0.295). It can be concluded that there is no difference in the percentage of microleakage between conventional and bulk-fill resins on both consistencies, as well as there is also no statistically significant difference when the adhesive system is used in a conventional or self-etching mode. Background. Pregnancy in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients is a challenge due to the potential maternal and fetal complications. Therefore, a multidisciplinary assessment of disease risk before and during pregnancy is essential to improve pregnancy outcomes. Objectives. Our purpose was to (i) define clusters of patients with similar history and laboratory features and determine the associative maternal and perinatal outcomes and (ii) evaluate the risk spectrum of maternal and perinatal outcomes of pregnancy in SLE patients, represented by our established risk-assessment chart. Methods. Medical records of 119 patients in China were analyzed retrospectively. Significant variables with p < 0.05 were selected. The self-organizing map was used for clustering the data based on historical background and laboratory features. Results. Clustering was conducted using 21 maternal and perinatal features. Five clusters were recognized, and their prominent maternal manifestations were as follows: cluster 1 (including 27.73% of all patients): preeclampsia and lupus nephritis; cluster 2 (22.69%): oligohydramnios, uterus scar, and femoral head necrosis; cluster 3 (13.45%): upper respiratory tract infection; cluster 4 (15.97%): premature membrane rupture; and cluster 5 (20.17%): no problem. Conclusion. Pregnancy outcomes in SLE women fell into three categories, namely high risk, moderate risk, and low risk. Background. The current study is aimed at updating the observational studies on the relationship between threatened abortion and the risk of ASD. Methods. The search keywords were covered in three electronic databases PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus up to April 2022. The modified Newcastle–Ottawa scale (NOS) was applied to detect the quality of epidemiological studies. We used the chi-square test and the I 2 statistic to show the heterogeneity among articles. I 2 more than 50% was considered high heterogeneity. Egger's and Begg's line regression tests were used for evaluating the publication bias. The random-effects model was applied for the analysis of the findings. The Stata 13.0 software package was applied for analysis and indicated p value less than 0.05 as a significant level. Results. The pooled analysis reported significant differences between threatened abortion and the risk of ASD in adjusted studies (OR = 1.93 ; 95% CI: 1.12, 2.73; I 2 = 59.5.0 %) and in crude studies (OR = 2.17 ; 95% CI: 1.46, 2.88; I 2 = 39.5 %). The evidence of publication bias was not found. Conclusions. The findings suggest that threatened abortion is a risk factor for ASD. Background and Purpose. Approximately one-third of patients with acute ischemic stroke experience early neurological deterioration (END). Multiple mechanisms lead to END, and progressive infarction (PI) representing extension of the original infarction is the most common type. Lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) has been reported to be associated with stroke, cancer, and cardiovascular disease, but no relationship with PI has been reported. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between LMR and PI. Methods. From April 2017 to December 2020, we retrospectively recruited 477 patients with acute ischemic stroke (within 48 hours after onset). Progressive infarction was defined as an increase of ≥1 point in motor power or ≥2 points on the total National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within 7 days after admission and extension of the original infarction were further confirmed by diffusion-weighted imaging. Demographic characteristics, clinical information, and neuroimaging characteristics were evaluated after admission. All blood draws and initial imaging were completed within 24 hours of admission. Results. PI occurred in 147 (30.8%) patients. Univariate analysis comparing the two groups revealed that hypertension, initial NIHSS score, discharge NIHSS score, modified Rankin scale score at 90 days, monocyte level, creatinine level, fasting glucose level, LMR, monocyte-to-high-density lipoprotein ratio (MHR), and lesion location were significantly different (P < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the odds ratio of PI increased as the quartile of LMR increased, with the lowest quartile as the reference value. Subgroup analyses showed that a high LMR was an independent predictor of PI only in large artery atherosclerosis (LAA) patients. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to estimate the predictive value of LMR for PI. For all cases, the area under the curve was 0.583 (95% CI 0.526-0.641), and the best predictive cutoff value was 3.506, with a sensitivity of 53.1% and a specificity of 63.9%. In patients with LAA, the area under the curve was 0.585 (95% CI 0.505-0.665), and the best predictive cutoff value was 3.944, with a sensitivity of 48.7% and a specificity of 72.8%. Conclusions. Vascular remodeling refers to changes in the size, contraction, distribution, and flow rate of blood vessels and even changes in vascular function. Vascular remodeling can cause cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. It can also lead to other systemic diseases, such as pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary atherosclerosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke, and ascites of broilers. Hypoxia is one of the main causes of vascular remodeling. Prolonged hypoxia or intermittent hypoxia can lead to loss of lung ventilation, causing respiratory depression, irregular respiratory rhythms, and central respiratory failure. Animals that are unable to adapt to the highland environment are also prone to sustained constriction of the small pulmonary arteries, increased resistance to pulmonary circulation, and impaired blood circulation, leading to pulmonary hypertension and right heart failure if they live in a highland environment for long periods of time. However, limited studies have been found on the relationship between hypoxia and vascular remodeling. Therefore, this review will explore the relationship between hypoxia and vascular remodeling from the aspects of endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, abnormal calcium channel, disordered cellular metabolism, abnormal expression of miRNA, and other factors. This will help to understand the detailed mechanism of hypoxia-mediated smooth muscle cell proliferation and vascular remodeling for the better treatment and management of diseases due to vascular remodeling. Objective. To evaluate the incidence and risk factors for complications following volar locking plate (VLP) fixation of unstable distal radius fracture (DRF). Methods. This retrospective study identified patients who underwent VLP fixation of unstable DRF between 2017 and 2020 with a minimum 12-month follow-up assessments. By reviewing electronic medical records and follow-up notes, patients were categorized complication or noncomplication group. Differences in variables were detected by using univariate analyses, and independent factors were identified using multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results. During this study period, 423 patients were included, and 63 (rate, 14.9%) complications in 58 patients were documented. Wound infection (17, 4.0%) was most common, followed in decreasing frequency by carpal tunnel syndrome (13, 3.1%), tendon rupture/irritation (10, 2.4%), complex regional pain syndrome (8, 1.9%), and plate/screw-related complications (5, 1.7%). In the univariate analyses, 18 variables were found to be significantly different (p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis identified 5 independent factors, including being male (OR, 3.5; p = 0.014), type C fracture (vs. type A, OR: 2.7, and p = 0.035), general anesthesia (vs. regional, OR: 2.4, and p = 0.045), bone grafting (OR, 6.3; p < 0.001), and surgery performed by less experienced surgeons (OR, 3.1; p = 0.003). The goodness-of-fit of the final model was acceptable. Conclusions. These factors will help surgeons individualize and stratify the risk of complications and help patients for risk counselling; especially, an informed clinical decision targeting those modifiable factors (anesthesia mode, bone grafting, and surgeon experience) can be considered, when indicated. Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women with high morbidity and mortality. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the primary cause of cervical cancer, of which HPV 16 is the predominant. Early detection and effective treatment of cervical precancerous lesions are the key to preventing cervical cancer. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism is considered to be an important cause of cancer development. Here, we studied the association of VDR polymorphisms (FOKI, BsmI, ApaI, and TaqI) in HPV16-positive cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)2+ patients. HPV16-positive patients who visited the Colposcopy Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University for biopsy due to abnormal HPV and/or Thinprep cytologic test (TCT) from September 1, 2020 to October 1, 2021 were grouped by pathological results. The fasting blood samples were collected and VDR polymorphisms were detected using TaqMan fluorescent probes, and the three sites of BsmI-ApaI-TaqI were subjected to haplotype analysis. FOKI ff genotype (OR = 2.01 ; 95% CI = 1.12 − 3.59 ; p = 0.019) and f allele (OR = 1.48 ; 95% CI = 1.10 − 1.98 ; p = 0.009) were found to be associated with the risk of CIN2+. TaqI Tt genotype (OR = 2.03 ; 95% CI = 1.20 − 3.43 ; p = 0.008), tt genotype (OR = 2.09 ; 95% CI = 1.09 − 4.02 ; p = 0.028), and t allele (OR = 1.35 ; 95% CI = 1.01 − 1.80 ; p = 0.041) were associated with the risk of CIN2+. Background. In the last years, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been considered as a useful strategy to treat many diseases such as traumatic brain injury (TBI). The production of inflammatory agents by TBI elicits an inflammatory response directed to other systems of body, such as the heart and the kidneys. In this study, the efficacy of oral mucosal mesenchymal stem cells (OMSCs) prescription after TBI in inflammation and oxidative stress of the heart and kidneys was evaluated. Methods. Twenty-four male rats were located in groups as follows: sham, TBI, vehicle (Veh), and stem cell (SC). OMSCs were injected intravenously 1 and 24 hours after TBI. Inflammatory, oxidative stress, and histopathological outcomes of the heart and kidney tissues were investigated 48 hours after TBI. Results. TBI caused an increase in the level of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), malondialdehyde (MDA), and carbonyl protein (PC) of the heart and kidney compared to the sham group. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), catalase (CAT), and interleukin-10 (IL-10) of the heart and kidney decreased after TBI. The use of OMSCs after TBI reduced the changes of these factors in both the heart and the kidney. Conclusion. Application of OMSCs after TBI can decrease inflammation and oxidative stress of the heart and kidney tissues leading to the reduction of damage. Liver damage occurs following renal ischemia-reperfusion (RIR) that can cause inflammation and inflammatory cytokines activated after kidney injury. In this study, thyme essential oil (TE) with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties was used to reduce liver damage induced by renal IR. 32 male rats were randomly divided into 4 equal groups: (1) control, (2) RIR, (3) RIR+TE, and (4) TE. Rats received TE as a pretreatment at a dose of 0.5 ml/kg for one week. Then, under anesthesia for 45 minutes for ischemia, the kidneys of the animals were closed with clamps, and reperfusion was performed for 24 hours. Animal serum was isolated to evaluate alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) parameters. The liver of rats was examined for the measurement of malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), catalase (CAT), and expression of genes such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and caspase-3. ALP, AST, ALT, MDA, NO, IL-6, TNF-α, and caspase-3 increased significantly in the RIR group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). GSH, GPX, and CAT decreased significantly in the RIR group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). TE caused a decrease in ALP, AST, ALT, MDA, NO, IL-6, and TNF-α compared to the RIR group and caused an increase in the amount of GSH, GPX, and CAT in the RIR group (p < 0.05). Cardiovascular diseases represent one of the first causes of death around the world, and atherosclerosis is one of the first steps in the development of them. Although these problems occur mainly in elderly, the incidence in younger people is being reported, and an undetermined portion of patients without the classic risk factors develop subclinical atherosclerosis at earlier stages of life. Recently, both the H. pylori infection and the intestinal microbiota have been linked to atherosclerosis. The mechanisms behind those associations are poorly understood, but some of the proposed explanations are (a) the effect of the chronic systemic inflammation induced by H. pylori, (b) a direct action over the endothelial cells by the cytotoxin associated gene A protein, and (c) alterations of the lipid metabolism and endothelial dysfunction induced by H. pylori infection. Regarding the microbiota, several studies show that induction of atherosclerosis is related to high levels of Trimethylamine N-oxide. In this review, we present the information published about the effects of H. pylori over the intestinal microbiota and their relationship with atherosclerosis and propose a hypothesis to explain the nature of these associations. If H. pylori contributes to atherosclerosis, then interventions for eradication and restoration of the gut microbiota at early stages could represent a way to prevent disease progression. Chronic liver disease(CLD) is a slow-developing and long-term disease that can cause serious damage to the liver. Thus far, it has been associated with viral hepatitis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD), alcoholic liver disease(ALD), hepatic fibrosis(HF), liver cirrhosis (LC), and liver cancer. Qinghao Biejia Decoction (QBD) is a classic ancient Chinese herbal prescription with strong immune-enhancing, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor effects. In this study, we used a network pharmacology approach to investigate the molecular mechanisms of QBD in the inflammation-carcinoma transformation process of chronic liver disease. Two key drug targets, MAPK1 and PIK3CA, were screened using network pharmacology and molecular docking techniques, revealing dihydroartemisinin, artesunate, 12-O-Nicotinoylisolineolone, caffeic acid, and diincarvilone A as active ingredients involved in QBD mechanisms. The main signaling pathways involved were the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway and MAPK signaling pathway. In summary, our results indicated that QBD affects the inflammatory transformation of chronic liver disease through MAPK1 and PIK3CA and signaling pathways MAPK and PI3K/AKT. Mucormycosis is one among the life-threatening fungal infections with high morbidity and mortality. It is an uncommon and rare infection targeting people with altered immunity. This lethal infection induced by fungi belonging to the Mucorales family is very progressive in nature. The incidence has increased in recent decades owing to the rise in immunocompromised patients. Disease management involves a multimodal strategy including early administration of drugs and surgical removal of infected tissues. Among the antifungals, azoles and amphotericin B remain the gold standard drugs of choice for initial treatment. The order Mucorales are developing a high level of resistance to the available systemic antifungal drugs, and the efficacy still remains below par. Deciphering the molecular mechanisms behind the antifungal resistance in Mucormycosis would add vital information to our available antifungal armamentarium and design novel therapies. Therefore, in this review, we have discussed the mechanisms behind Mucormycosis antifungal resistance. Background. A large amount of publications had reported the association between incidence of esophageal cancer (EC) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the past decade. However, those papers' results are inconsistent on relationships between T2DM the incidence of EC. Therefore, the objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the relationship between T2DM and the risk of EC (including 2 histological types, esophageal adenocarcinoma [EADC] and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma [ESCC]). Method. We finally extracted 19 articles though Pubmed, Embased, and Cochrane library. Those identify extraction date including 14,312 cases and 24,959,067 control records and then mixed the relative risks (RRs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) through STATA. Results. We observed that there are significantly positive correlation between T2DM and EC risk (R R = 1.28 , 95% CI: 1.05-1.57, P = 0.015).Also, our study showed positive correlation between T2DM and EADC (esophageal adenocarcinoma) risk (R R = 1.28 , 95% CI: 1.05-1.57, P < 0.001). What's more, subgroup analysis based on ethnicity represented the Caucasian is more susceptible to EC (R R = 1.28 ,95% CI: 1.10-1.49, P = 0.001). Conclusion. Those results offer a recent epidemiological and integrated evidence to ascertain the correlations between T2DM and incidence of EC. Those results take public health implications on preventing T2DM and then depress the occurrence of EC. Our study also provides referenced information for the prevention. Objective. This study is aimed at comparing the treatment efficacy between catheter balloon dilation combined with cold fluid compensatory swallowing training and catheter balloon dilation alone on poststroke cricopharyngeal achalasia (CPA). Methods. We conducted a single-blind, randomized controlled trial (RCT). Poststroke patients with CPA were divided into two groups: the control group (treated with catheter balloon dilation) and the trial group (catheter balloon dilation combined with cold fluid compensatory swallowing). Videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) was performed, and functional oral intake scale (FOIS) was used to evaluate and compare the swallowing function of patients in the 2 groups before and after intervention. Posttreatment VAS pain scores and recovery time were also measured. Results. VFSS and FOIS scores in the two groups were improved after treatment (P < 0.05). In the trial group, VFSS scores in the pharyngeal phase and aspiration degree were significantly higher compared with the control group (P < 0.05) but not in the oral phase (P > 0.05). The difference in FOIS scores and patients' recovery time from intervention to eating mushy food between the trial and control groups was significant (P < 0.05), but not the VAS scores (P > 0.05). Conclusion. The catheter balloon dilation combined with cold fluid compensatory swallowing was superior to catheter balloon dilation alone in terms of relieving dysphagia and reducing aspiration in patients with CPA following stroke. Background. Studies that show common characteristics among ICU-admitted patients due to COVID-19 are available on the net, but such studies in Saudi Arabia are limited. Methods. A descriptive cross-sectional study establishing common comorbidities and risk factors among critically ill patients who tested positive for COVID-19 at the National Guard Hospital from March 2, 2020, to March 20, 2021. The data were obtained from the BEST Care System of King Abdulaziz Medical City, computed, and analyzed using SPSS. Results. Three hundred eighty-five COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) were included in this study. The mean age was 60.85 ± 20.46 , 60.85% were males, and 39.2% were females. There was statistically significant positive relationship between severity of the symptoms and age (P = 0.002). The mean duration of hospital stay in the sample was 21.85 ± 28.47. More than one-third (37.4%) of cases admitted to the hospital died while about two-thirds of the cases were discharged after complete recovery. Two hundred ninety (75.3%) of the patients who were admitted to the National Guard Health Affairs (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) had respiratory disease. Two hundred twelve patients (55.1%) had diabetes mellitus, while the number of hypertensive patients was 203 (52.7%). There was a significant positive relation among patients with gastrointestinal tract infection (GIT) risk factors and the severity of the symptoms of COVID-19 (P = 0.000). In addition, there was a strong significant relation between hypertension patients and the severity of the COVID-19 symptoms (P = 0.017). Conclusion. COVID-19 patients who have GIT and hypertension have been found to be at an increased risk of COVID-19 symptom severity. Objectives. Psoriasis is a skin disease thought to be related to immune system dysfunction. Our study is aimed at analyzing the prevalence of psoriasis in China in multiple different categories and compared the prevalence at the global level, in order to bring insights to policymakers for treating this disease. Methods. We analyzed psoriasis trends from 1990 to 2019 in China as well as around the globe with data from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 study. Multiple metrics such as age-standardized prevalence rates, percent change in age-standardized prevalence rates, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and age and sex patterns were included. We also predicted the trends of psoriasis prevalence and DALYs in the following 30 years. Results. In China, the age-specific prevalence cases showed a right shift in 2019 compared to 1990 with a peak between the ages of 50 and 54 years and an obvious surpass in males between 40 and 69. Though China still had the largest number of psoriasis cases in 2019, the increase rate was below global level. A positive linear relationship between psoriasis prevalence and comorbidities was seen with rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes mellitus, multiple sclerosis, nonrheumatic valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy and myocarditis, nonmelanoma skin cancer, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and multiple myeloma in China within the male group in 2019. Discussion. The burden of psoriasis, as measured by the absolute number of DALYs, continues to increase around the world. The Aim. To test the possible association between ANRIL rs4977574 polymorphism and the development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular complications (acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and large artery stroke (LAS)) in Ukrainian population. Materials and Methods. 195 patients with ACS, 200 patients with LAS, and 234 control subjects were enrolled in this case-control study. Real-time PCR was used for ANRIL rs4977574 genotyping. SPSS software package (version 17.0, IBM, USA) was used for data analysis. Results. A significant association between rs4977574 polymorphism and the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular complications was found under the recessive model regardless of adjustment for nongenetic risk factors (OR = 1.551 ; p = 0.025). Moreover, the link between rs4977574 locus and serum levels of total cholesterol (p = 0.021) and LDL (p = 0.022) was detected. A separate analysis in subgroups demonstrated the association of rs4977574 polymorphism with increased risk of ACS under the recessive model (OR = 1.501 ; p = 0.048). No relation between rs4977574 site and LAS development was revealed (p > 0.05). Conclusion. Obtained data suggested that ANRIL rs4977574-GG genotype can be a possible genetic marker for the development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular complications in Ukrainian population. Nuanxin capsule (NX), an in-hospital preparation of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, has been used in heart failure (HF) treatment for 15 years, but its mechanism and protective effect have not been investigated. This study was aimed at exploring the mechanism and protective effect of NX on HF treatment via network pharmacology analysis and experimental validation. Network pharmacology analysis predicted that NX was involved in the regulation of response to apoptotic process and hypoxia via protecting cellular damage and mitochondrial dysfunction against chronic hypoxia. Its mechanism may be involved in the regulation of the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, HIF-1 signaling pathway, AMPK signaling pathway, and MAPK signaling pathway. Experimental validation indicated that NX was capable of improving cellular viability, restoring cellular morphology, and suppressing cellular apoptosis cellular. NX also exerted cardioprotection by inhibiting mitochondrial membrane potential injury and protecting mitochondrial respiratory and energy metabolism in a chronic hypoxia cellular model, which was consistent with the results of network pharmacology prediction. In addition, the screened active compounds of NX did have a good binding with their key targets, indicating NX may exert protective effect through multicompounds and multitargets. According to relevant data, the morbidity and mortality of strokes in China remain high. Without effective treatment, stroke morbidity and mortality will continue to rise, which may become the second leading disease in the world. With the nonstop advancement and improvement of clinical innovation in China, the death pace of stroke patients has dropped altogether. After clinical treatment, the patient actually showed a progression of sequelae, which made it challenging to work on the personal satisfaction of the patient. The purpose for this paper was to concentrate on the impact of medical image fusion in the treatment of poststroke appendage brokenness with TCM needle therapy. The related concepts of medical image fusion and the meaning of acupuncture and moxibustion in traditional Chinese medicine, stroke, and limb dysfunction were introduced. In this study, acupuncture and moxibustion were analyzed to explore the therapeutic effect of this type of therapy on upper extremity dysfunction caused by phlegm and blood stasis blocking collaterals and to provide a scientific method for the treatment and efficacy judgment of upper extremity motor dysfunction after stroke. Before the treatment measures were taken, there was no significant difference in the general data and all index scores between the two groups (P > 0.05), and there was no significant difference in the baseline data, reflecting high balance and comparability. In the following 3 months of treatment, the FMA score, NIHSS score, BI list, and VAS score of the two groups of patients were essentially not quite the same as those before treatment (P < 0.05). A vertebral compression fracture (VCF) is an injury to a vertebra of the spine affecting the cortical walls and/or middle cancellous section. The most common risk factor for a VCF is osteoporosis, thus predisposing the elderly and postmenopausal women to this injury. Clinical consequences include loss of vertebral height, kyphotic deformity, altered stance, back pain, reduced mobility, reduced abdominal space, and reduced thoracic space, as well as early mortality. To restore vertebral mechanical stability, overall spine function, and patient quality of life, the original percutaneous surgical intervention has been vertebroplasty, whereby bone cement is injected into the affected vertebra. Because vertebroplasty cannot fully restore vertebral height, newer surgical techniques have been developed, such as kyphoplasty, stents, jacks, coils, and cubes. But, relatively few studies have experimentally assessed the biomechanical performance of these newer procedures. This article reviews over 20 years of scientific literature that has experimentally evaluated the biomechanics of percutaneous VCF repair methods. Specifically, this article describes the basic operating principles of the repair methods, the study protocols used to experimentally assess their biomechanical performance, and the actual biomechanical data measured, as well as giving a number of recommendations for future research directions. One of the globally common cancers is colorectal cancer (CRC). At present, a surgical approach remains a good option for CRC patients; however, 20% of surgically treated CRC patients experience metastasis. Currently, even the first-line used drug, oxaliplatin, remains inadequate for treating metastatic CRC, and its side effect of neurotoxicity is a major problem when treating CRC. The Gene Omnibus GSE42387 database contains gene expression profiles of parental and oxaliplatin-resistant LoVo cell lines. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between parental and oxaliplatin-resistance LoVo cells, protein-protein interactions (PPIs), and a pathway analysis were determined to identify overall biological changes by an online DAVID bioinformatics analysis. The ability of DEGs to predict overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) was validated by the SPSS 22.0, using liver metastasis CRC patient samples of GSE41258. The bioinformatics web tools of the GEPIA, the Human Protein Atlas, WebGestalt, and TIMER platforms were used. In total, 218 DEGs were identified, among which 105 were downregulated and 113 were upregulated. After mapping the PPI networks and pathways, 60 DEGs were identified as hub genes (with high degrees). Six genes (TGFB1, CD36, THBS1, FABP1, PCK1, and IRS1) were involved with malaria, PPAR signaling, and the adipocytokine signaling pathway. High expressions of CD36 and PCK1 were associated with the poor survival of CRC patients in the GSE41258 database. We predicted specific micro (mi)RNAs that targeted the 3 ′ untranslated region (UTR) of PCK1 by using miRWalk. It was found that three miRNAs, viz., miR-7-5p, miR-20a-3p, and miR-636, may be upstream targets of those genes. High expression levels of miR-7-5p, miR-20a-3p, and miR-636 were associated with poor OS of CRC patients, and the small-molecule compound, mersalyl, is a promising drug for treating oxaliplatin-resistant CRC. In conclusion, miR-7-5p miR-20a-3p, and miR-636 targeted the PCK1 biomarker in the PPAR signaling pathway, which is involved in oxaliplatin-resistant CRC. Meanwhile, mersalyl was identified as a potential drug for overcoming oxaliplatin resistance in CRC. Our findings may provide novel directions and strategies for CRC therapies. Background. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the impact of D-dimer-to-albumin ratio (DAR) on outcomes in patients with hepatitis B virus-associated decompensated cirrhosis (HBV-DeCi). Methods. A total of 172 HBV-DeCi patients were enrolled. Logistic regression was used to explore the association between DAR and 30-day mortality. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used to evaluate the performance of DAR for predicting mortality. Results. The 30-day mortality was 19.8%. DAR was clearly higher in the nonsurvivors compared with the survivors, and increasing DAR was associated with an increasing risk of death. DAR was independently associated with mortality and its AUC for mortality was equivalent to that for Model for End-Stage Liver Disease score. Conclusions. Staphylococcus aureus is emerging as a ubiquitous multidrug-resistant pathogen circulating among animals, humans, and their environment. The current study focused on molecular epidemiology and evidence-based treatment against S. aureus from bovine endometritis. For this study, n = 304 cattle were screened for endometritis using ultrasonography while presenting case history, and clinical signs were also considered. S. aureus was isolated from endometritis-positive uterine samples which were further put to molecular identification, phylogenetic analysis, susceptibility to antibiotics, and testing of novel drug combinations in both in vitro and field trials. The findings of the study revealed 78.20% of bovine endometritis samples positive for S. aureus, while nuc gene-based genotyping of S. aureus thermal nuclease (SA-1, SA-2, and SA-3) showed close relatedness with S. aureus thermal nuclease of Bos taurus. Drug combinations showed 5.00 to 188.88% rise in zones of inhibitions (ZOI) for drugs used in combination compared to the drugs used alone. Gentamicin in combination with amoxicillin and enrofloxacin with metronidazol showed synergistic interactions in an in vitro trial. Co-amoxiclav with gentamicin, gentamicin with enrofloxacin, and metronidazole with enrofloxacin showed 100%, 80%, and 60% efficacy in treating clinical cases in field trials, respectively. As a result, the study came to the conclusion the higher prevalence of endometritis-based S. aureus, genetic host shifts, narrow options for single drugs, and need for novel drug combinations to treat clinical cases. lncRNAs and mRNA are closely associated with hypertensive renal damage, and Astragalus membranaceus and Salvia miltiorrhiza (AS) have a therapeutic effect; however, the mechanism of AS to ameliorate hypertensive renal damage through the co-expression network of lncRNA-mRNA was unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of AS regulated the coexpression network of lncRNA-mRNA in improving hypertensive renal damage. Sixteen 24-week old spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHRs) were randomly divided into model group (M) and drug intervention group (AS, 5.9 g/kg), 8 Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) of the same age as normal group (N). The treatment of rats was 4 weeks. Detecting the change of blood pressure, renal pathology and renal function related indicators, and lncRNA and mRNA sequencing and joint analysis was performed on the kidney. AS reduced blood pressure; decreased urine NAG, urine mALB, serum CysC, and IL-6; and improved renal pathology compared with group M. Simultaneously, AS reversed the disordered expression of 178 differential expression (DE) mRNAs and 237 DE-lncRNAs in SHRs, and their joint analysis showed that 13 DE-mRNAs and 32 DE-lncRNAs were coexpressed. Further analysis of 13 coexpressed DE-mRNAs showed negative regulation of blood pressure and fatty acid beta-oxidation was highly enriched in GO pathways, PPAR signaling pathway was highly enriched in KEGG pathways, and the verification related to these pathways was also highly consistent with the sequence. AS can alleviate hypertensive renal damage through the coexpression network of lncRNA-mRNA, of which coexpressed 13 DE-mRNAs and 32 DE-lncRNAs were the important targets, and the pathway negative regulation of blood pressure, fatty acid beta-oxidation, and PPAR signaling pathway play a major regulatory role. Background. Early diagnosis and interceptive treatment of the maxillary canine impaction is crucial as it reduces treatment complexity and decreases complications and adverse outcomes. Aim and Objectives. To determine the mean maxillary canine position among 9-10-year-old children and predict the risk of impaction of the maxillary canines. Methodology. Panoramic radiographs (PANs) of 289 healthy children aged between 9 and 10 years were observed where the average position of maxillary canines was related to the lateral incisor, sector locations, and angulations to the bicondylar line were traced. The average position was obtained by using descriptive statistics. One sample Wilcoxon signed-rank test is done to predict the risk of canine impaction by comparing the data obtained to the average position from prior studies. Results. A total of 289 PANs (126 males and 163 females) were utilized for the analysis. The findings showed that the average position of the maxillary canines in our population was statistically different from the average position of nonimpacted canines in previous studies. However, on average, more than 85% of canines in our population were still located within the safe range of satisfactory position, with females showing slight predominance outside of the acceptable range. The mean scores of the angles between the right canine and lateral incisor were significantly higher among females than males (p = 0.001). Similarly, females had a significantly higher mean angle of the left canine than males (p < 0.001). In regard to the angles between the bicondylar line and permanent maxillary canine, the mean scores were not significantly different (p > 0.05) on both the left and right side. Conclusion. There is a low risk of impaction of maxillary canines in the Malaysian population. Craniocerebral injury accounts for 9%-21% of the injuries in all parts of the body, and the incidence rate ranks first in all types of trauma or only lower than limb fractures. This study mainly discusses the nursing methods of patients with severe traumatic brain injury and fractures in ambulances. This study is based on risk factors with moderate-to-higher association strength from retrospective studies. According to the regression coefficients of the logistic regression model, the risk factors were assigned, and the early warning score table of craniocerebral injury complicated with hyponatremia was established. The energy efficiency of the early warning score table was evaluated by case diagnostic test and ROC analysis. At the same time, risk grading is carried out, and the chi-square test is used to test the reliability of the grading standard, so as to identify the risk of hyponatremia in patients with craniocerebral injury early and screen out high-risk patients as the key observation objects of nurses. Based on the early warning score table of craniocerebral injury complicated with hyponatremia, different systematic nursing intervention measures were taken for low-risk patients and high-risk patients, and their application effects were evaluated. The clinical application effect of the systematic nursing intervention program was evaluated by the historical control research method, which provided a reference for the nursing in the ambulance to prevent other complications of patients with craniocerebral injury. The positive rate of prehospital operation can reach 64.44%, and the specific rate can reach 84.44%. 60% of the sample sought better metastatic care in terms of the purpose of using an ambulance. The systematic nursing intervention program has a certain effect on reducing the incidence of hyponatremia in patients with craniocerebral injury and shortening the hospitalization time of patients with craniocerebral injury. The early warning score of craniocerebral injury complicated with hyponatremia developed in this study is concise and practical and can provide a basis for clinical assessment of the risk of hyponatremia in patients with craniocerebral injury. Background. Alzheimer's disease, a neurodegenerative memory disease, primarily results from the formation of amyloid plaques (Aβ) that gradually inhibit neuron communications. The entire mechanism of Aβ production remains unclear to date, and it is of particular interest among scientists to find out the exact mechanism that leads to amyloid precursor protein (APP) cleavage through the amyloidogenic pathway so that effective treatments can be developed. Method. 2 sets of experiments with the use of human H4-N cell lines are proposed to fully investigate the validity of the hypothesis. All of the experiments would involve immunoblotting of Aβ using an anti-Aβ antibody, and the results would be analyzed with the assistance of an image analyzer. A significant amount of Aβ would be expected to be present in the cytoplasm of cells with herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) applied, as APP endocytosis would be induced by HSV-1, which leads to higher Aβ levels inside the cell. Results. In this paper, a new hypothesis is presented on how HSV-1 infection initiates APP endocytosis and causes an increase in APP cleavage and Aβ production inside the cells. It is also hypothesized that increased Aβ peptides exit the cell via exocytosis, therefore, leading to the development of Alzheimer's disease. The findings will support the hypothesis if intracellular Aβ concentration is significantly higher after the introduction of dHSV-1 and subsequently if extracellular Aβ concentration becomes higher without TeNT exocytosis inhibition. Conclusion. The results of this study would provide valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease and open new scopes of research for its potential treatments. Introduction. The effect of sulodexide (SLX) on obstructive jaundice- (OJ-) induced acute lung injury (ALI) in rats was examined in this study. Methods. In this study, 48 rats were randomly assigned to one of six groups: sham, OJ, OJ+saline, OJ+SLX (0.5 mg/ml/d), OJ+SLX (1 mg/ml/d), and OJ+SLX (2 mg/ml/d). The pathological lung injury was assessed by histological analysis and lung injury grading. ELISA kits were used to evaluate the expression of IL-6, IL-1, TNF-α, and syndecan-1 (SDC-1) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (BALFs). Commercial assay kits were performed to evaluate malondialdehyde (MDA) production and catalase (CAT) activity in lung tissues. The apoptosis was assessed by TUNEL assay. The lung microvascular permeability was investigated using Evans blue leakage, lung wet/dry weight (W/D) ratio, and lung permeability index (LPI). SDC-1, claudin-5, ZO-1, and VE cadherin expression levels in lung tissues were measured using Western blot. Results. The OJ-induced ALI rats showed severe lung injury. The value of IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, and SDC-1 in BALFs was remarkedly increased in the OJ group. MDA content, apoptotic area, apoptotic molecules, and SDC-1 level were all higher in the OJ group's lung tissues than in the sham group. CAT activity, Evans blue leakage, W/D ratio, LPI, and expression of claudin-5, ZO-1, and VE cadherin were all lower in the OJ group compared to the sham group. The degenerative alterations in lung tissue improved after 7 days of treatment with 2 mg/ml SLX. The BALFs had lower amounts of IL-6, IL-1, TNF-α, and SDC-1. The SLX therapy reduced MDA levels while restoring CAT activity. In lung tissues, SLX reduced apoptotic area and SDC-1 expression. SLX reduced lung microvascular permeability by raising the expression of Claudin-5, ZO-1, and VE-cadherin in lung tissue when compared to the OJ group. Conclusion. Background. To explore whether salivary inflammatory mediators and periodontal indices at different gestational stages can be taken as indicators of preterm birth (PTB). Methods. This nested case-control study enrolled systemically healthy pregnant women at 9 to 36 weeks of gestation. Periodontal indices were measured at the enrollment date, and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in the saliva were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The birth outcome was recorded. Results. PTB occurred in 26 women. A total of 104 matched women with full-term birth (FTB) were used as controls. The PTB women enrolled at 24-28 gestational weeks displayed a significantly greater bleeding index (BI), probing pocket depth (PD), PD ≥ 4 mm sites (%), saliva-TNF-α, and saliva-PGE2 (P < 0.05). BI and PGE2 in the saliva were found to be positively associated with PTB (OR = 4.79 , P = 0.048 , 95 % CI = 1.014 to 22.628 ; OR = 1.07 , P = 0.04 , 95 % CI = 1.004 to 1.135 , respectively). The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) of BI and saliva-PGE2 were 0.82 and 0.78, respectively, and that of the combined detection was 0.91, which was larger than either marker alone, although the differences were not significant (P > 0.05). Conclusions. The combination of BI and PGE2 in saliva at 24-28 gestational weeks could be a predictor of PTB in asymptomatic women. Gut microbiota coevolve with humans to achieve a symbiotic relationship, which ultimately leads to physiological homeostasis. A variety of diseases can occur once this balance is disrupted. Helicobacter bilis (H. bilis) is an opportunistic pathogen in humans, triggering multiple diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a chronic immunologically mediated inflammation of the human gastrointestinal tract, and its occurrence is closely related to the gut microbiota. Several studies have demonstrated that H. bilis colonization is associated with IBD, and its mechanism is related to host immunity. However, few studies have investigated these mechanisms of action. Therefore, this article is aimed at reviewing these studies and summarizing the mechanisms of H. bilis-induced IBD from two perspectives: adaptive immunity and innate immunity. Furthermore, this study provides a preliminary discussion on treating H. bilis-related IBD. Objective. Systematic evaluation of the efficacy of acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training in the treatment of upper limb spasm after cerebral apoplexy. Methods. The data of CNKI, CBM, CQVIP, Wanfang, and the libraries of Pubmed and Cochrane were searched by computer, and the related literatures about acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training in the treatment of cognitive dysfunction after stroke were searched. The search time is from January 1, 1995 to January 1, 2022. All data segments were independently analyzed and extracted by two evaluators. After evaluating the quality of the methodology, meta-analysis was carried out by using the RevMan5.4 software. Results. Finally, 11 studies were included, with a total of 789 subjects. The results of meta-analysis indicated that acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training was superior to simple cognitive rehabilitation training or drugs in the following aspects, the difference exhibited statistically significant, the total effective rate (RR = 1.58 , 95% CI), latency of P300 (MD = − 18.46 , 95% CI), amplitude of P300 (MD = 1.23 , 95% CI (0.82), P < 0.00001 , 95% CI (0.31)), and activity of daily living (ADL), respectively, were significantly higher compared to the control group (P < 0.00001), and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Based on the results of systematic evaluation, the GRADE system recommendation classification method is used to evaluate the quality of evidence. The results show that the level of evidence is low and the intensity of recommendation is weak. Conclusion. The results of this meta-analysis suggest that the curative effect of acupuncture combined with cognitive rehabilitation training is better compared to simple cognitive rehabilitation training or drugs. However, due to the low quality of the original literature, it needs to be confirmed by multicenter, high-quality, large-sample randomized blind controlled trials in the future. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a common virus worldwide that is an etiologic agent in the development of many diseases, including cancer. Recent reports have shown the association of EBV with tumorigenesis in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Moreover, EBV has been reported to be present in tonsillar tissues, which suggests a close relationship between viral infections and tonsillar diseases, including chronic tonsillitis. The aim of the study was to analyze the prevalence of EBV DNA in 86 patients with HNSCC, in 70 patients with chronic tonsillitis, and in 144 healthy individuals (control group) and the associations between EBV infection and clinicopathological and demographic characteristics and the use of stimulants in all study groups. The objective of this study was also to analyze the prevalence of coinfection with human papillomavirus (HPV). After prior DNA isolation, EBV detection was performed using an EBV kit by real-time polymerase chain reaction. The prevalence of EBV infection in patients with HNSCC, patients with chronic tonsillitis, and the control group was 47.7%, 60%, and 24.3%, respectively. Compared to controls, a significantly higher prevalence of EBV in patients with chronic tonsillitis and HNSCC may suggest that EBV is a potential risk factor. No association was found between EBV infection and demographic or clinical data. Further studies are warranted due to inconclusive reports that were mainly related to geographic distribution, sample type, and detection technique.
