Abstract

The article presents research which assessed the impact of individual differences and group decisions on the flight leadership among the Columbia livia, also called the homing pigeons. The researchers performed novel quantitative techniques to investigate the structure of the habitual routes of pigeons and its impact on the ability to lead a group of pigeons. They found that the pigeons that stick to their own route have a big chance of becoming leaders.
