Abstract

Investigation of the three reactants of the FGF system, the basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), the FGF receptor, FGFRI, and the cofactor heparin/heparan sulfate (HS), by molecular modeling isothermal titrating calorimetry and ultracentrifugation helps determine their binding reactions. The investigation involves separation of the binding reactions into three binary interactions. The reactions exhibit an enthalpy domination characterized by a single equilibrium constant, K1.
