Abstract

Far- and near UV circular dichroism spectra of extensively methylated myosin subfragment-1 (S1) show that methylation has no influence on the secondary structure but induces limited modifications in tertiary structure. Methylation decreases the interaction of S1 with actin and the affinity between actin-and nucleotide-binding sites. Methylation inhibits communication between various binding sites and the flawed communication is revealed by various parameters.
