DDB Needham Worldwide Inc could lose a big account if Volkswagenwerk AG decides to get the services of another advertising agency. Volkswagen Chmn Ferdinand Piech does not seem to recognize old ties to DDB Needham, which has handled the Volkswagen account since the time of former Volkswagen Chmn Doyle Dane Bernbach. This was manifested in Mar 1993, when Volkswagen excluded DDB Needham, but invited Ayer Direct and BBDO Worldwide Inc's direct marketing arm Team Direct, when VW's $100 million German media buying account was put up for review.

Volkswagenwerk AG and Atlantic Recording Corp are negotiating a cross-promotion scheme based on the highly successful television advertisements of Volkswagen. Sales of the soundtrack by the Clannad that was used by the advertisement has climbed due to the heavy exposure. The two companies will support a promotion with Tower Records.
