This is a detailed spectral classification of 198 candidate active galactic nuclei (AGN) from a joint HRC/BHRC sample consisting of a combination of the HRC (Hamburg-ROSAT) and BHRC (Byurakan-ROSAT) catalogs. These objects have been identified as optical counterparts of ROSAT x-ray sources, but spectra for 198 of them are given in the SDSS without determinations of their spectral classification. They are studied using the SDSS spectra and detailed types of activity are found for them. For a more reliable classification, three diagnostic diagrams have been used, along with direct studies of the spectra. These sources were also identified in other wavelength ranges and their physical parameters have also been calculated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study we carry out detailed spectral classification of 173 AGN candidates from the Joint HRC/BHRC sample, which is a combination of HRC (Hamburg-ROSAT Catalogue) and BHRC (Byurakan-Hamburg-ROSAT Catalogue). These objects were revealed as optical counterparts for ROSAT X-ray sources; however, spectra for 173 of them are given in SDSS without definite spectral classification. We studied these 173 objects using the SDSS spectra and revealed the detailed activity types for them. Three diagnostic diagrams and direct examination of the spectra were used to obtain a more confident classification. Observations of 79 comparison stars in the fields of seven Seyfert galaxies (Akn 79, Mrk 374, Mrk 382, Mrk 478, Mrk 493, Mrk 618, and Mrk 1513) and a single quasar (CTA 102) are reported. The observations were made with CCD photometry in the B, V, R, and I bands. The stellar magnitudes of these stars in the V band range from 12 m.9 to 18 m.4. The typical photometric uncertainties for magnitude 15 stars are 0 m.008, 0 m.011, 0 m.009 and 0 m.015 in the BVRI bands, respectively. For most of these stars the B, V, R, and I magnitudes have not been known previously. A variable star with brightness variations over a period of P = 0.1705 d was found in the field of the galaxy Mrk 478 and the sampled stars in the field of the galaxy Mrk 1513 include a variable with a period of P = 0.2211 d. These stars may be type W UMa contact binary systems with orbital periods of 0.341 and 0.4422 d, respectively. Finding charts for the comparison stars are included. We have reported the discovery of a population of the normal extragalactic field galaxies with the clear presence of strong FHIL (forbidden high by ionized lines) and HeII 4686 emission. In this paper we present a dozen of them extracted from the SDSS dr7. The high resolution spectra 0.86 Å /px obtained with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical observatory of Russia are introduced for one of them, SDSS J093801.63 + 135317.0 confirming the presence of strong and wide FHIL and HeII 4686 emission. These objects show typical narrow (FWHM ~ 120 - 250 km s) emission lines both of HI and forbidden emission lines of [NII] 6548/84, [SII] 6717/31, [OI] 6300, [OII] 3727, and [OIII] 5007/4959 with underlying stellar absorption lines, coupled with the strong FHIL emission of [FeVII] 5721, 6087, [FeX] 6375, [FeXI] 7892, [FeXIV] 5303, and HeII 4686, sometimes very broad up to 1500 km s. Following the direct images, all morphological types are introduced, spherical, elliptical, spiral, barred spiral, etc., without morphological or other peculiarity and any signs of "standard" AGN activity. None of them are X-ray source. The appearance of the FHIL emission in normal galaxies (the objects of SBN/HII/ELG spectral types) might be one of the important sign of the beginning of the AGN activity. The existence of the numerous normal extragalactic objects with FHIL and HeII 4686 emission tell us that the link between the AGNs and the normal galaxies perhaps might be realized with the FHIL flare in normal galaxies. We report observations of 24 stars in the fields of the three Seyfert galaxies MCG +08-23-067, Mrk 817, and Mrk 290. The observations were made with a CCD array photometer in the BVRcIc bands. The V magnitudes of the observed stars ranged from 13.5 and 17.2. For stars of approximate magnitude 15, the typical photometric errors are 0.010, 0.011, 0.008 and 0.011 magnitude in the BVRI bands, respectively. The BVRI magnitudes of all these stars were not known previously. In the field of the galaxy Mrk 290 a star has been found that probably has a periodic brightness variation with P=1.518 days and the mean value V=14.80 and which may belong to the class of “spotted” stars. 14′x14′ charts are supplied for identifying the stars. Results are presented from CCD BVRI observations of comparison stars in the neighborhoods of 22 galaxies with active nuclei having right ascensions ranging from 0 to 12 hours, of which 19 are Seyfert galaxies. The observed stars have magnitudes ranging from V=11 to V=17. For stars brighter than V=14 the typical photometic error is 0.01m. The B, V, Rc, and Ic magnitudes of most of these stars were not known previously. 14′×14′ finding charts are included. Results of spectral observations of 66 objects from the BIG (Byurakan IRAS Galaxies) sample made with the 1.93 m telescope at the Observatoire de Haute Provence (OHP, France) are presented. Emission lines are observed from 64 of the galaxies. The red shifts are determined, the radial velocities, distances, and absolute stellar magnitudes are calculated, the spectrum line parameters are determined, diagnostic diagrams are constructed, the objects are classified according to activity type, and their IR and far-IR luminosities are calculated. Of the 66 objects (corresponding to 61 IRAS sources), 6 are Sy2, 2 are LINERs, 8 are AGN (Sy2 or LINER), 10 are composite, 34 are HII, and 4 are Em of undetermined type. It is calculated that IRAS 07479+7832= BIG d141a is a ultraluminous IR galaxy (ULIG), and 21 are LIG. Spectra of several of the galaxies being studied are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
