Abstract

We analyze photometric observations of the three main-belt asteroids 350 Ornamenta, 771 Libera, and 984 Gretia, conducted over a twelve-year interval. Our data and those of other authors allow us to determine pole and shape models using the lightcurve inversion technique. In all three cases, a single pole solution was obtained without any significant mirror solution: Ornamenta – $P = 9.180\,414$h, $\lambda_{\rm p} = 184\degr$, $\beta_{\rm p} = -29\degr$Libera – $P = 5.890\,423$h, $\lambda_{\rm p} = 64\degr$, $\beta_{\rm p} = -78\degr$Gretia – $P = 5.778\,025$h, $\lambda_{\rm p} = 245\degr$, $\beta_{\rm p} = +52\degr$. This analysis and the development of asteroid models increase the set of asteroids with known spin and shape parameters, which consists of only around 100 objects.

Abstract

Aims. Shape and spin state are basic physical characteristics of an asteroid. They can be derived from disc-integrated photometry by the lightcurve inversion method. Increasing the number of asteroids with known basic physical properties is necessary to better understand the nature of individual objects as well as for studies of the whole asteroid population.

Abstract

We report photometric lightcurve observations of 184 Dejopeja (apparition years: 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006), 276 Adelheid (2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006), and 556 Phyllis (1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006) carried out on 48 nights at four observatories. Using all of the available lightcurves, the spin vectors, senses of rotation, and shape models of these three asteroids have been determined.

Context.BL Cam is an extreme metal-deficient field high-amplitude SX Phe-type variable where a very complex frequency spectrum is detected, with a number of independent nonradial modes excited, unusual among the high-amplitude pulsators in the Lower Classical Instability Strip.

Abstract

Aims.We present physical models of ten asteroids obtained by means of lightcurve inversion. A substantial part of the photometric data was observed by amateur astronomers. We emphasize the importance of a coordinated network of observers that will be of extreme importance for future all-sky asteroid photometric surveys.

Abstract

CCD observations of the binary asteroid 90 Antiope were carried out at seven observatories (Borowiec, Kharkiv, Pic du Midi, Chateau Renard, Les Engarouines, Ottmarsheim, and Durtal) on 31 nights from December 2002 through April 2003. The results show two-component lightcurves with each showing the same period of $16.505 \pm 0.002$h. The first component is associated with the rotation of the two non-spherical bodies of the system; the second one is due to eclipses/occultations in the binary system. The lightcurves suggest that Antiope is an 'almost synchronous system' with orbital period of $16.5051 \pm 0.0002$h and a little shorter rotational one of $16.5047 \pm 0.0002$h. The ecliptic coordinates of the pole of the orbit system are $\lambda_{n} = 17\degr \pm 5\degr$and $\beta_{n} = 25\degr \pm 5\degr$. A possibility of the observation of the eclipsing events during two future oppositions (April 2004 and July 2005) has been predicted.

Abstract

CCD observations of the binary asteroid 90 Antiope were carried out at four observatories (Borowiec, Pic du Midi, Kharkiv, and Chateau Renard) on 26 nights from October 2001 through February 2002. The results show a two–component lightcurve with each showing the same period of $16.505 \pm 0.002$hours. The first component (with the amplitude of 0.10 mag) is associated with the rotation of two non–spherical bodies of the system; the second one, showing two sharp minima (with the amplitude in the range 0.05–0.12 mag, depending linearly on the phase angle) is due to eclipses in the binary system. The lightcurve suggests a synchronous rotation. The orientation of the system's orbit has been determined from the analysis of both the amplitudes and the duration of the eclipses. Some predictions of the possibility of observations of the eclipsing events during future oppositions have also been made.
