Context. The mean motion resonance is the most important mechanism that may dominate the dynamics of a planetary system. In a multi-planetary system consisting of N ≥ 3 planets, the planets may form a resonant chain when the ratios of orbital periods of planets can be expressed as the ratios of small integers T1: T2: ⋯ : TN = k1: k2: ⋯ : kN. Due to the high degree of freedom, the motion in such systems could be complex and difficult to depict. Aims. In this paper, we investigate the dynamics and possible formation of the resonant chain in a triple-planet system. Methods. We defined the appropriate Hamiltonian for a three-planet resonant chain and numerically averaged it over the synodic period. The stable stationary solutions – apsidal corotational resonances (ACRs) – of this averaged system, corresponding to the local extrema of the Hamiltonian function, can be searched out numerically. The topology of the Hamiltonian around these ACRs reveals their stabilities. We further constructed the dynamical maps on different representative planes to study the dynamics around the stable ACRs, and we calculated the deviation (χ2) of the resonant angle in the evolution from the uniformly distributed values, by which we distinguished the behaviour of critical angles. Finally, the formation of the resonant chain via convergent planetary migration was simulated and the stable configurations associated with ACRs were verified. Results. We find that the stable ACR families arising from circular orbits always exist for any resonant chain, and they may extend to a high eccentricity region. Around these ACR solutions, regular motion can be found, typically in two types of resonant configurations. One is characterised by libration of both the two-body resonant angles and the three-body Laplace resonant angle, and the other by libration of only two-body resonant angles. The three-body Laplace resonance does not seem to contribute to the stability of the resonant chain much. The resonant chain can be formed via convergent migration, and the resonant configuration evolves along the ACR families to eccentric orbits once the planets are captured into the chain. Aims. The most reliable sources for determining absolute stellar parameters are the double-lined eclipsing binary systems. Some of these systems also show apsidal motion, characterized by the variable log k2. This point grants us the possibility of investigating the stellar interior, specifically the degree of stellar mass concentration. The first studies carried out about four decades ago on this topic showed appreciable discrepancies not only with respect to the comparison between the observed absolute dimensions and their theoretical counterparts, but mainly concerning the degree of mass concentration through the analysis of their apsidal motions. Fortunately, this scenario has been gradually improving with the advances in the quality of observational techniques and advances in the input physics of the evolutionary stellar models (e.g. opacities, thermonuclear reactions, equations of state, numerical techniques). These new developments in the input physics has improved the comparison between observations and the values predicted by theory, including the apsidal motion rates. This progress has lead us to investigate second-order effects such as rotation and dynamic tides. In this paper we deal with the effects of rotation on the degree of mass concentration. Methods. The stellar models were calculated using the MESA package. The mass range studied here was 0.40–25.0 M⊙ for a generic chemical composition characterized by X = 0.70 and Z = 0.02. The present models were computed without taking into account core overshooting in order to highlight the effects of rotation. Each model was followed from the pre-main sequence until the central hydrogen content is of the order of or less than 0.03, covering the range of masses and evolutionary status of the double-lined eclipsing binaries showing apsidal motion. Regarding the calculation of the internal structure coefficients, we integrated the Radau equation using the fifth-order Runge-Kutta method and a tolerance level of 10−7. As an auxiliary tool, homology transformations have been used to explain, qualitatively, how the equation of state, thermonuclear reactions, and convection impact the degree of mass concentration of the models. Results. In our past studies on the effects of rotation on log k2 an average correction was used for all models together. For this a small range of masses (2.0, 7.0, 15.0 M⊙) has been used. In the present paper the corrections due to the effects of rotation in log k2 are presented for each mass individually and for three evolutionary phases. This point is particularly important, given that these corrections show a clear dependence on the mass and on the evolutionary status. Such corrections can be easily introduced into the theoretical calculation of apsidal motion rates through a linear equation. The 1:N mean motion resonances (MMRs) with Neptune are of particular interest in astronomy research because they have two asymmetric resonance islands, where the distribution of trapped objects may bear important clues to resolving the history of the Solar System. To explore the dynamics of these resonances and to investigate whether the imprints left by the early stage evolution can be preserved in the resonances, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the 1:2 and 1:3 resonances. By mainly adopting the frequency analysis method, we calculated the proper frequencies of the motion of objects in the resonances and determined the secular mechanisms that influence the dynamics. Using the spectral number (SN) as an indicator of orbital regularity, we constructed dynamical maps on representative planes. After comparing the structures in the maps with the locations of the secular mechanisms, we find that the von-Zeipel-Lidov-Kozai mechanism and the 푔 = 2s mechanism destabilize the influenced orbits and thus sculpt the overall structure of the 1:2 and 1:3 resonances. The secular resonance of 2푔 − s = s8 opens a channel for objects to switch between the leading and trailing resonance islands, which can alter the population ratio between these two islands. The secondary resonances associated with the quasi 2:1 resonance between Uranus and Neptune were also detected, likely introducing more chaos to the motion. The fine dynamical structures of the 1:2 and 1:3 resonances revealed in this paper, combined with knowledge of resonant capture, provide a compelling explanation for the eccentricity distribution of observed Twotinos. Furthermore, we anticipate a more complete understanding of the history of planetary migration in the Solar System can be achieved by comparing the results in this paper with the populations in the 1:N resonances, with forthcoming observations offering more objects for study in the future. Context. Quantifying the number density and physical characteristics of extragalactic polarized sources is important for the successful planning of future studies based on Faraday rotation measure (RM) grids of polarized sources to probe foreground Galactic and intergalactic magnetic fields. However, it is proving very hard to detect polarized signal from the population of very faint (sub-mJy) polarized sources at low radio frequencies, and their properties are mostly unknown. LOFAR can play an important role in such studies thanks to its sensitivity and angular resolution, combined with the precision on the inferred RM values that can be achieved through low-frequency broad-band polarimetry. Aims. The aim of this study is to probe the sub-mJy polarized source population with LOFAR. In this first paper, we present the method used to stack LOFAR polarization datasets, the resulting catalog of polarized sources, and the derived polarized source counts. Methods. The European Large Area ISO Survey-North 1 (ELAIS-N1) field, one of the deepest of the LOFAR Two-Metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) Deep Fields so far, was selected for a polarimetric study at 114.9–177.4 MHz. A total area of 25 deg2 was imaged at 6″-resolution in the Stokes Q and U parameters. Alignment of polarization angles was done both in frequency and in Faraday space before stacking datasets from 19 eight-hour-long epochs taken in two different LOFAR observing cycles. A search for polarized sources was carried out in the final, stacked dataset, and the properties of the detected sources were examined. The depolarization level of sources known to be polarized at 1.4 GHz was quantified. Results. A one-sigma noise level, σQU, of 19 µJy beam−1 was reached in the central part of the field after stacking. Twenty-five polarized sources were detected above 8σQU, five of which had not been detected in polarization at any other radio frequencies before. Seven additional polarized components were found by lowering the threshold to 6σQU at positions corresponding to sources known to be polarized at 1.4 GHz. In two radio galaxies, polarization was detected from both radio lobes, so the final number of associated radio continuum sources is 31. The detected sources are weakly polarized, with a median degree of polarization of 1.75% for the sample of sources detected in polarized emission. For the 10 polarized sources previously identified in a pilot LOFAR study of the ELAIS-N1 field at 20″-resolution, the RM values are consistent but the degrees of polarization are higher in the 6″-resolution data. The sources previously detected in polarization at 1.4 GHz are significantly depolarized at 150 MHz. The catalog is used to derive the polarized source counts at 150 MHz. Conclusions. This is the deepest and highest-resolution polarization study at 150 MHz to date. A full characterization of the sources and an analysis of the catalog will be presented in Paper II. Context. Recent molecular surveys have revealed the rich gas organization of sonic-like filaments at small scales (so-called fibers) in all types of environments prior to the formation of low- and high-mass stars. These fibers form at the end of the turbulent cascade and are identified as the fine substructure within the hierarchical nature of the gas in the interstellar medium (ISM). Aims. Isolated fibers provide the subsonic conditions for the formation of low-mass stars. This paper introduces the Emergence of high-mass stars in complex fiber networks (EMERGE) project, which investigates whether complex fiber arrangements (networks) can also explain the origin of high-mass stars and clusters. Methods. We analyzed the EMERGE Early ALMA Survey including seven star-forming regions in Orion (OMC-1,2,3, and 4 South, LDN 1641N, NGC 2023, and the Flame Nebula) that were homogeneously surveyed in three molecular lines (N2H+J = 1–0, HNC J = 1–0, and HC3N J = 10–9) and in the 3 mm continuum using a combination of interferometric ALMA mosaics and IRAM-30 m single-dish (SD) maps, together with a series of Herschel, Spitzer, and WISE archival data. We also developed a systematic data reduction framework allowing the massive data processing of ALMA observations. Results. We obtained independent continuum maps and spectral cubes for all our targets and molecular lines at different (SD and interferometric) resolutions, and we explored multiple data combination techniques. Based on our low-resolution (SD) observations (30″ or ~12 000 au), we describe the global properties of our sample, which covers a wide range of physical conditions, including low-(OMC-4 South and NGC 2023), intermediate (OMC-2, OMC-3, and LDN 1641N), and high-mass (OMC-1 and Flame Nebula) star-forming regions in different evolutionary stages. The comparison between our single-dish maps and ancillary YSO catalogs denotes N2H+ (1–0) as the best proxy for the dense, star-forming gas in our targets, which show a constant star formation efficiency and a fast time evolution of ≲1 Myr. While apparently clumpy and filamentary in our SD data, all targets show a much more complex fibrous substructure at the enhanced resolution of our combined ALMA+IRAM-30 m maps (4″.5 or ~2000 au). A large number of filamentary features at subparsec scales are clearly recognized in the high-density gas (≳ 105 cm−3) that is traced by N2H+ (1–0) directly connected to the formation of individual protostars. Surprisingly, this complex gas organization appears to extend farther into the more diffuse gas (~103−104 cm−3) traced by HNC (1–0). Conclusions. This paper presents the EMERGE Early ALMA Survey, which includes a first data release of continuum maps and spectral products for this project that are to be analysed in future papers of this series. A first look at these results illustrates the need of advanced data combination techniques between high-resolution interferometric (ALMA) and high-sensitivity, low-resolution single-dish (IRAM-30 m) datasets to investigate the intrinsic multiscale, gas structure of the ISM. Context. Modeling the surface brightness distribution of stars is of prime importance to interpret the large amount of available interferometric, spectropolarimetric, or photometric observations. Beyond stellar physics, this is also a prerequisite to characterize exoplanets or our Galaxy. Nevertheless, this remains quite challenging for cool stars as it requires one to model the magnetohydrodynamic turbulence that develops in their convective envelope. Aims. In Paper I (Raynaud, R., Rieutord, M., Petitdemange, L., Gastine, T., & Putigny, B. 2018, A&A, 609, A124), the effect of the Coriolis acceleration on the surface heat flux has been studied by means of hydrodynamic simulations. In this paper, we aim to investigate the additional effect of dynamo magnetic fields that can be generated in the thick convective envelopes of cool stars. We focus on an envelope thickness that is representative of either a ∼0.35 M⊙ M dwarf, a young red giant star or a pre-main sequence star. Methods. We performed a parametric study using numerical magnetohydrodynamic simulations of anelastic convection in thick rotating spherical shells. The stratification in density ranges from a few tens to a few hundreds. The setup assumes a constant entropy jump between the inner and outer layers to force convection, with stress-free boundary conditions for the velocity field. The magnetic Prandtl number was systematically varied in order to vary the magnetic field intensity. For each model, we computed the azimuthally and temporally averaged surface distribution of the heat flux, and examined the leading-order effect of the magnetic field on the obtained latitudinal luminosity profile. Results. We identify three different regimes. Close to the onset of convection, while the first unstable modes tend to convey heat more efficiently near the equator, magnetic fields are shown to generally enhance the mean heat flux close to the polar regions (and the tangent cylinder). By progressively increasing the Rayleigh number, the development of a prograde equatorial jet was previously shown to make the equator darker when no magnetic field is taken into account. For moderate Rayleigh numbers, magnetic fields can instead inverse the mean pole-equator brightness contrast (which means going from a darker to a brighter equator when a dynamo sets in) and finally induce a similar regime to that found close to the onset of convection. For more turbulent models with larger Rayleigh numbers, magnetic fields alternatively tend to smooth out the brightness contrast. This general behavior is shown to be related to the quenching of the surface differential rotation by magnetic fields and remains valid regardless of the magnetic morphology. Conclusions. Mean global trends regarding the impact of rotation and magnetic fields on the surface brightness distribution of cool stars are theoretically depicted and need to be tested by future observations. This work opens the door to more detailed theoretical studies including the effect of nonaxisymmetric and time-variable surface features associated with magnetic activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims. Our aim in this paper is to refine the orbital and physical parameters of the HATS-2 planetary system and study transit timing variations and atmospheric composition thanks to transit observations that span more than 10 yr and that were collected using different instruments and pass-band filters. We also investigate the orbital alignment of the system by studying the anomalies in the transit light curves induced by starspots on the photosphere of the parent star. Methods. We analysed new transit events from both ground-based telescopes and NASA's TESS mission. Anomalies were detected in most of the light curves and modelled as starspots occulted by the planet during transit events. We fitted the clean and symmetric light curves with the JKTEBOP code and those affected by anomalies with the PRISM+GEMC codes to simultaneously model the photometric parameters of the transits and the position, size, and contrast of each starspot. Results. We found consistency between the values we found for the physical and orbital parameters and those from the discovery paper and ATLAS9 stellar atmospherical models. We identified different sets of consecutive starspot-crossing events that temporally occurred in less than five days. Under the hypothesis that we are dealing with the same starspots, occulted twice by the planet during two consecutive transits, we estimated the rotational period of the parent star and, in turn the projected and the true orbital obliquity of the planet. We find that the system is well aligned. We identified the possible presence of transit timing variations in the system, which can be caused by tidal orbital decay, and we derived a low-resolution transmission spectrum. Context. High-precision ephemerides are not only useful in supporting space missions, but also in investigating the physical nature of celestial bodies. This paper reports an update to the orbit and rotation model of the Martian moon Phobos. In contrast to earlier numerical models, this paper details a dynamical model that fully considers the rotation of Phobos. Here, Phobos' rotation is first described by Euler's rotational equations and integrated simultaneously with the orbital motion equations. We discuss this dynamical model, along with the differences with respect to the model now in use. Aims. This work is aimed at updating the physical model embedded in the ephemerides of Martian moons, considering improvements offered by exploiting high-precision observations expected from future missions (e.g., Japanese Martian Moons exploration, MMX), which fully supports future studies of the Martian moons. Methods. The rotational motion of Phobos can be expressed by Euler's rotational equations and integrated in parallel with the equations of the orbital motion of Phobos around Mars. In order to investigate the differences between the two models, we first reproduced and simulated the dynamical model that is now used in the ephemerides, but based on our own parameters. We then fit the model to the newest Phobos ephemeris published by Institut de Mécanique Céleste et de Calcul des Éphémérides (IMCCE). Based on our derived variational equations, the influence of the gravity field, the Love number, k2, and the rotation behavior were studied by fitting the full model to the simulated simple model. Our revised dynamic model for Phobos was constructed as a general method that can be extended with appropriate corrections (mainly rotation) to systems other than Phobos, such as the Saturn and Jupiter systems. Results. We present the variational equation for Phobos' rotation employing the symbolic Maple computation software. The adjustment test simulations confirm the latitude libration of Phobos, suggesting gravity field coefficients obtained using a shape model and homogeneous density hypothesis should be re-examined in the future in the context of dynamics. Furthermore, the simulations with different k2 values indicate that it is difficult to determine k2 efficiently using the current data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multiplanetary systems spanning the radius valley are ideal testing grounds for exploring the different proposed explanations for the observed bimodality in the radius distribution of close-in exoplanets. One such system is HIP 29442 (TOI-469), an evolved K0V star hosting two super-Earths and one sub-Neptune. We observed HIP 29442 with CHEOPS for a total of 9.6 days, which we modelled jointly with two sectors of TESS data to derive planetary radii of 3.410 ± 0.046, 1.551 ± 0.045, and 1.538 ± 0.049 R⊕ for planets b, c, and d, which orbit HIP 29442 with periods of 13.6, 3.5, and 6.4 days, respectively. For planet d this value deviates by more than 3σ from the median value reported in the discovery paper, leading us to conclude that caution is required when using TESS photometry to determine the radii of small planets with low per-transit signal-to-noise ratios and large gaps between observations. Given the high precision of these new radii, combining them with published RVs from ESPRESSO and HIRES provides us with ideal conditions to investigate the internal structure and formation pathways of the planets in the system. We introduced the publicly available code plaNETic, a fast and robust neural network-based Bayesian internal structure modelling framework. We then applied hydrodynamic models to explore the upper atmospheric properties of these inferred structures. Finally, we identified planetary system analogues in a synthetic population generated with the Bern model for planet formation and evolution. Based on this analysis, we find that the planets likely formed on opposing sides of the water iceline from a protoplanetary disk with an intermediate solid mass. We finally report that the observed parameters of the HIP 29442 system are compatible with a scenario where the second peak in the bimodal radius distribution corresponds to sub-Neptunes with a pure H/He envelope and with a scenario with water-rich sub-Neptunes. Context. Asteroids preserve important information about the origin and evolution of the Solar System. Three-dimensional (3D) surface models of asteroids are essential for exploration missions and scientific research. Regular methods for 3D surface reconstruction of asteroids, such as stereo-photogrammetry (SPG), usually struggle to reconstruct textureless areas and can only generate sparse surface models. Stereo-photoclinometry (SPC) can reconstruct pixel-wise topographic details but its performance depends on the availability of images obtained under different illumination conditions and suffers from uncertainties related to surface reflectance and albedo. Aims. This paper presents Asteroid-NeRF, a novel deep-learning method for 3D surface reconstruction of asteroids that is based on the state-of-the-art neural radiance field (NeRF) method. Methods. Asteroid-NeRF uses a signed distance field (SDF) to reconstruct a 3D surface model from multi-view posed images of an asteroid. In addition, Asteroid-NeRF incorporates appearance embedding to adapt to different illumination conditions and to maintain the geometric consistency of a reconstructed surface, allowing it to deal with the different solar angles and exposure conditions commonly seen in asteroid images. Moreover, Asteroid-NeRF incorporates multi-view photometric consistency to constrain the SDF, enabling optimised reconstruction. Results. Experimental evaluations using actual images of asteroids Itokawa and Bennu demonstrate the promising performance of Asteroid-NeRF, complementing traditional methods such as SPG and SPC. Furthermore, due to the global consistency and pixel-wise training of Asteroid-NeRF, it produces highly detailed surface reconstructions. Asteroid-NeRF offers a new and effective solution for high-resolution 3D surface reconstruction of asteroids that will aid future exploratory missions and scientific research on asteroids. Context. Many novel methods have been proposed to mitigate stellar activity for exoplanet detection as the presence of stellar activity in radial velocity (RV) measurements is the current major limitation. Unlike traditional methods that model stellar activity in the RV domain, more methods are moving in the direction of disentangling stellar activity at the spectral level. As deep neural networks have already been proven to be one of the most effective tools in data mining, in this work, we explore their potential in the context of Earth-like planet detection in RV measurements. Aims. The goal of this paper is to present a novel convolutional neural network-based algorithm that efficiently models stellar activity signals at the spectral level, enhancing the detection of Earth-like planets. Methods. Based on the idea that the presence of planets can only produce a Doppler shift at the spectral level while the presence of stellar activity can introduce a variation in the profile of spectral lines (asymmetry and depth change), we trained a convolutional neural network to build the correlation between the change in the spectral line profile and the corresponding RV, full width at half maximum (FWHM) and bisector span (BIS) values derived from the classical cross-correlation function. Results. This algorithm has been tested on three intensively observed stars: Alpha Centauri B (HD 128621), Tau ceti (HD 10700), and the Sun. By injecting simulated planetary signals at the spectral level, we demonstrate that our machine learning algorithm can achieve, for HD 128621 and HD 10700, a detection threshold of 0.5 m s−1 in semi-amplitude for planets with periods ranging from 10 to 300 days. This threshold would correspond to the detection of a ~4 M⊕ in the habitable zone of those stars. On the HARPS-N solar dataset, thanks to significantly more data, our algorithm is even more efficient at mitigating stellar activity signals and can reach a threshold of 0.2 m s−1, which would correspond to a 2.2 M⊕ planet on the orbit of the Earth. Conclusions. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that such low detection thresholds are reported for the Sun, but also for other stars, and therefore this highlights the efficiency of our convolutional neural network-based algorithm at mitigating stellar activity in RV measurements. Context. The solar energetic particle analysis platform for the inner heliosphere (SERPENTINE) project, funded through the H2020-SPACE-2020 call of the European Union's Horizon 2020 framework program, employs measurements of the new inner heliospheric spacecraft fleet to address several outstanding questions on the origin of solar energetic particle (SEP) events. The data products of SERPENTINE include event catalogs, which are provided to the scientific community. Aims. In this paper, we present SERPENTINE's new multi-spacecraft SEP event catalog for events observed in solar cycle 25. Observations from five different viewpoints are utilized, provided by Solar Orbiter, Parker Solar Probe, STEREO A, BepiColombo, and the near-Earth spacecraft Wind and SOHO. The catalog contains key SEP parameters for 25–40 MeV protons, ~1 MeV electrons, and ~100 keV electrons. Furthermore, basic parameters of associated flares and type II radio bursts are listed, as are the coordinates of the observer and solar source locations. Methods. An event is included in the catalog if at least two spacecraft detect a significant proton event with energies of 25–40 MeV. The SEP onset times were determined using the Poisson-CUSUM method. The SEP peak times and intensities refer to the global intensity maximum. If different viewing directions are available, we used the one with the earliest onset for the onset determination and the one with the highest peak intensity for the peak identification. We furthermore aimed to use a high time resolution to provide the most accurate event times. Therefore, we opted to use a 1-min time resolution, and more time averaging of the SEP intensity data was only applied if necessary to determine clean event onsets and peaks. Associated flares were identified using observations from near Earth and Solar Orbiter. Associated type II radio bursts were determined from ground-based observations in the metric frequency range and from spacecraft observations in the decametric range. Results. The current version of the catalog contains 45 multi-spacecraft events observed in the period from November 2020 until May 2023, of which 13 events were found to be widespread (observed at longitudes separated by at least 80° from the associated flare location) and four could be classified as narrow-spread events (not observed at longitudes separated by at least 80° from the associated flare location). Using X-ray observations by GOES/XRS and Solar Orbiter/STIX, we were able to identify the associated flare in all but four events. Using ground-based and space-borne radio observations, we found an associated type II radio burst for 40 events. In total, the catalog contains 142 single event observations, of which 20 (45) have been observed at radial distances below 0.6 AU (0.8 AU). Context. Understanding the effects of rotation in stellar evolution is key to modelling early-type stars, half of which have equatorial velocities over 100 km s−1. The nearby star Altair is an example of such fast-rotating stars, and furthermore, it has the privilege of being modelled by a detailed 2D concordance model that reproduces most of its observables. Aims. The aim of this paper is to include new asteroseismic frequencies to improve our knowledge of Altair, especially its age. Methods. We processed images of Altair obtained during July 2022 by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite using the halo photometry technique to obtain its light curve over this observation period. Results. By analysing the light curve, we derived a set of 22 new frequencies in the oscillation spectrum of Altair and confirmed 12 previously known frequencies. Compared with model predictions, we could associate ten frequencies with ten axisymmetric modes. This identification is based on the modelled visibility of the modes. Moreover, nine of the modelled frequencies can be adjusted to simultaneously match their corresponding observed frequencies, once the core hydrogen mass fraction of the concordance model is set to Xcore/Xini ≃ 0.972, with Xini = 0.739. Using the combined results of a 1D MESA model computing the pre-main sequence and a 2D time-dependent ESTER model computing the main sequence, we find that this core hydrogen abundance sets the age of Altair to 88 ± 10 Myr, which is slightly younger than previous estimates. Context. Binary pulsars are a powerful tool for probing strong gravity that still outperform direct gravitational wave observations in a number of ways due to the remarkable accuracy of the pulsar timing. They can constrain the presence of additional charges of the orbiting neutron stars very precisely, leading to new channels of energy and angular momentum loss, such as scalar dipole radiation. Aims. In the present paper, we explore in detail the possibility of constraining different classes of scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with binary pulsars. Additionally, we updated the existing constraints related to the observed maximum mass of neutron stars. Methods. Interestingly, depending on the equation of state, the resulting limits on the theory coupling parameters can outperform the constraints coming from binary merger observations by up to a factor of two, even for so-called Einstein-dilaton-Gauss-Bonnet gravity where neutron stars are often underestimated as relevant theory probes. Context. V892 Tau is a young binary star surrounded by a circumbinary disc that shows hints of an interaction with the low-mass nearby star V892 Tau NE. Aims. The goal of this paper is to constrain the orbit of V892 Tau NE and to determine the resulting circumbinary disc dynamics. Methods. We present new ALMA observations of the V892 Tau circumbinary disc at a twice higher angular and spectral resolution. We modelled the data with V892 Tau as a triple system and performed a grid of hydrodynamical simulations testing several orbits of the companion. The simulation outputs were then post-processed to build synthetic maps that we compared to the observations. Results. The 12CO emission of the disc shows clear non-Keplerian features such as spiral arms. When comparing the data with our synthetic observations, we interpreted these features as ongoing interactions with the companion. Our simulations indicate that an eccentricity of e ~ 0.5 of the companion is needed to reproduce the observed disc extent and that a mutual inclination of ∆i ~ 60° with the inner binary reproduces the measured disc tilt. Conclusions. In order to explain most of the features of the circumbinary disc, we propose that V892 Tau NE follows an orbit with a mild eccentricity 0.2 < e < 0.5 and a mutual inclination of 30° < ∆i < 60°. Such a misaligned companion suggests the disc is oscillating and precessing with time, stabilising in an intermediate plane with a non-zero mutual inclination with the inner binary. Given the orbital configuration, we show that the stability of future planets is compromised in the second half of the disc once the gas has dissipated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. This is the second paper in a series presenting the results from a 500 h−1Mpc large constrained simulation of the local Universe (SLOW). The initial conditions for this cosmological hydro-dynamical simulation are based on peculiar velocities derived from the CosmicFlows-2 catalog. The simulation follows cooling, star formation, and the evolution of super-massive black holes. This allows one to directly predict observable properties of the intracluster medium (ICM) within galaxy clusters, including X-ray luminosity, temperatures, and the Compton-y signal. Aims. Comparing the properties of observed galaxy clusters within the local Universe with the properties of their simulated counterparts enables us to assess the effectiveness of the initial condition constraints in accurately replicating the mildly nonlinear properties of the largest, collapsed objects within the simulation. Methods. Based on the combination of several, publicly available surveys we compiled a sample of galaxy clusters within the local Universe, of which we were able to cross-identify 46 of them with an associated counterpart within the SLOW simulation. We then derived the probability of the cross identification based on mass, X-ray luminosity, temperature, and Compton-y by comparing it to a random selection. Results. Our set of 46 cross-identified local Universe clusters contains the 13 most massive clusters from the Planck SZ catalog as well as 70% of clusters with M500 larger than 2 × 1014 M⊙. Compared to previous constrained simulations of the local volume, we found in SLOW a much larger amount of replicated galaxy clusters, where their simulation-based mass prediction falls within the uncertainties of the observational mass estimates. Comparing the median observed and simulated masses of our cross-identified sample allows us to independently deduce a hydrostatic mass bias of (1 − b)≈0.87. Conclusions. The SLOW constrained simulation of the local Universe faithfully reproduces numerous fundamental characteristics of a sizable number of galaxy clusters within our local neighborhood, opening a new avenue for studying the formation and evolution of a large set of individual galaxy clusters as well as testing our understanding of physical processes governing the ICM. Context. The extragalactic background light (EBL) carries a huge astrophysical and cosmological content. Its frequency spectrum and redshift evolution are determined by the integrated emission of unresolved sources, with these being galaxies, active galactic nuclei, or more exotic components. The near-UV region of the EBL spectrum is currently not well constrained, yet a significant improvement can be expected thanks to the soon-to-be launched Ultraviolet Transient Astronomy Satellite (ULTRASAT). Intended to study transient events in the 2300–2900 Å observed band, this detector will provide wide field maps tracing the UV intensity fluctuations at the largest scales. Aims. In this paper, we suggest how to exploit the ULTRASAT full-sky map as well as its low-cadence survey in order to reconstruct the redshift evolution of the UV-EBL volume emissivity. We build upon the work of Chiang et al. (2019, ApJ, 870, 120), who used the clustering-based redshift (CBR) technique to study diffuse light maps from GALEX. Their results showed the capability of the cross correlation between GALEX and SDSS spectroscopic catalogs in constraining UV emissivity, highlighting how CBR is sensitive only to extragalactic emissions, avoiding foregrounds and Galactic contributions. Methods. In our analysis, we introduce a framework to forecast the CBR constraining power when applied to ULTRASAT and GALEX in cross correlation with the five-year DESI spectroscopic survey. Results. We show that these will yield a strong improvement in the measurement of the UV-EBL volume emissivity. For λ = 1500 Å non-ionizing continuum below z ∼ 2, we forecast a 1σ uncertainty ≲26% (9%) with conservative (optimistic) bias priors using the ULTRASAT full-sky map. Similar constraints can be obtained from its low-cadence survey, which will provide a smaller but deeper map. Finally, we discuss how these results will foster our understanding of UV-EBL models. Context. The measurement of pulsar pulse times-of-arrival (ToAs) is a crucial step in detecting low-frequency gravitational waves. To determine ToAs, we can use template-matching to compare each observed pulse profile with a standard template. However, using different combinations of templates and template-matching methods (TMMs) without careful consideration can lead to inconsistent results. Aims. In pulsar timing array (PTA) experiments, distinct ToAs from the same observations can be obtained due to the use of diverse templates and TMMs. In other words, employing diverse approaches can yield different timing results and would thus have a significant impact on subsequent gravitational wave searches. In this paper we examine several commonly used combinations to analyze their effect on pulse ToAs. Methods. We evaluated the potential impact of template and TMM selection on 13 typical millisecond pulsars within the European PTA. We employed pulsar timing methods, specifically the root mean square and reduced chi-square (χ2r) of the residuals of the best timing solution, to assess the outcomes. Additionally, we evaluated the system-limited noise floor (SLNF) for each pulsar at various telescopes operating around 1.4 GHz using frequency-resolved templates. Results. Our findings suggest that utilizing data-derived and smoothed templates in conjunction with the Fourier-domain with Markov chain Monte Carlo TMM is generally the most effective approach, though there may be exceptions that require further attention. Furthermore, we determine that pulse phase jitter noise does not significantly limit the current precision of the European PTA's timing, as jitter levels derived from other studies are much lower than the SLNF. Context. The third data release of Gaia, in June 2022, included the first large sample of sparse photometric data for more than 150 000 Solar System objects (SSOs), mainly asteroids. Aims. The SSO photometric data can be processed to derive information on the physical properties for a large number of objects, including spin properties, surface photometric behaviour in a variety of illumination conditions, and overall shape. Methods. After selecting a set of 22 815 objects for which an adequate number of accurate photometric measurements had been obtained by Gaia, we applied the 'genetic' algorithm of photometric inversion developed by the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium to process SSO photometric data. Given the need to minimise the required data processing time, the algorithm was set to adopt a simple triaxial ellipsoid shape model. Results. Our results show that in spite of the limited variety of observing circumstances and the limited numbers of measurements per object at present (in the majority of cases no greater than 40 and still far from the number expected at the end of the mission of about 60–70), the proportion of correct determinations for the spin period among the observed targets is about 85%. This percentage is based on a comparison with reliable literature data following a moderate filtering procedure developed to remove dubious solutions. Conclusions. The analysis performed in this paper is important in the context of developing further improvements to the adopted data reduction procedure. This includes the possible development of better solution filtering procedures that take into account, for each object, the possible presence of multiple, equivalent spin period solutions that have not been systematically investigated in this preliminary application. Aims. In this work, we carry out a comprehensive study using galaxy data from the Lockman Spectroscopic Redshift Survey using Osiris (Lockman-SpReSO) project, a far-infrared (FIR) selected sample of galaxies observed using optical spectroscopy. We analyse a sub-sample of star-forming galaxies (SFGs) with secure spectroscopic redshifts, mostly in the luminous infrared (IR) galaxy domain. From these galaxies, parameters such as the extinction, star formation rate (SFR), and metallicity have been derived. The present paper examines how these properties evolve in relation to each other and in comparison with low-redshift FIR and non-FIR-selected samples of galaxies. Methods. We applied distinct selection criteria to attain an SFG sample with minimal AGN contamination. Multiple approaches were used to estimate the intrinsic extinction, SFR, and gas-phase metallicity for the SFGs. In conjunction with findings in the literature, we examined the correlation between SFRs and stellar masses (M*), as well as the metallicity evolution depending on M*. Finally, we also studied the 3D relationship between M*, SFR, and metallicity. Results. From the initial spectroscopic sample of 409 FIR-selected objects from the Lockman-SpReSO catalogue, 69 active galactic nuclei (AGNs) were identified and excluded (17%), which is nearly double the percentage found in local studies, leaving us with a sample of 340 SFGs. The analysis of the M*–SFR relationship revealed that Lockman-SpReSO IR-selected SFGs show signs of evolution at redshifts z > 0.4, shifting above the main sequence (MS), with a mean value of ∼0.4 dex. They are located within the starburst galaxy region since 78% of the galaxies fall into this category. In addition, no evident flattening was found in the relation to specific SFR with redshift for log M* (M⊙)≳10.5. In line with the M*–metallicity relation (MZR) outcomes published in previous studies for optically selected SFGs; however, during the analysis of the MZR, it was found that IR-selected SFGs exhibit lower metallicities than the values anticipated on the basis of their M* and redshift. During the investigation of the 3D M*–SFR–metallicity relation (FP), it was established that the research sample is consistent with relations published in the existing literature, with an average scatter of ∼0.2 dex. However, a re-calibration of the FP when using the SFR obtained from the IR luminosity is required and, in this case, no attenuation in the correlation for log M* (M⊙)≳10.5 was observed. This result points to a possible evolution of the more massive fraction of the sample in the sense that the present-day star formation rate is lower with respect to the average rate of star formation in the past. Context. Observations of meteors in the Earth's atmosphere offer a unique tool for determining the flux of meteoroids that are too small to be detected by direct telescopic observations. Although these objects are routinely observed from ground-based facilities, such as meteor and fireball networks, space-based instruments come with notable advantages and have the potential to achieve a broad and uniform exposure. Aims. In this paper, we describe the first observations of meteor events with Mini-EUSO, a very wide field-of-view telescope launched in August 2019 from the Baikonur cosmodrome and installed on board the Russian Zvezda module of the International Space Station. Mini-EUSO can map the night-time Earth in the near-UV range (290-130 nm) with a field of view equal to 44° × 44° and a spatial resolution of about 4.7 km at an altitude of 100 km from the ground. The detector saves triggered transient phenomena with a sampling frequency of 2.5 µs and 320 µs, as well as a continuous acquisition at 40.96 ms scale that is suitable for meteor observations. Methods. We designed two dedicated and complementary trigger methods, together with an analysis pipeline able to estimate the main physical parameters of the observed population of meteors, such as the duration, horizontal speed, azimuth, and absolute magnitude. To compute the absolute flux of meteors from Mini-EUSO observations, we implemented a simulation framework able to estimate the detection efficiency as a function of the meteor magnitude and the background illumination conditions. Results. The instrument detected 24 thousand meteors within the first 40 data-taking sessions from November 2019 to August 2021, for a total observation time of approximately 6 days with a limiting absolute magnitude of +6. Our estimation of the absolute flux density of meteoroids in the range of mass between 10−5 kg to 10−1 kg was found to be comparable to other results available in the literature. Conclusions. The results of this work prove the potential for space-based observations to increase the statistics of meteor observations achievable with instruments operating on the ground. The slope of the mass distribution of meteoroids sampled with Mini-EUSO suggests a mass index of either s = 2.09 ± 0.02 or s = 2.31 ± 0.03, according to two different methodologies for the computation of the pre-atmospheric mass starting from the luminosity of each event. The realtime program for high-energy neutrino track events detected by the IceCube South Pole Neutrino Observatory releases alerts to the astronomical community with the goal of identifying electromagnetic counterparts to astrophysical neutrinos. Gamma-ray observations from the Fermi-Large Area Telescope (LAT) enabled the identification of the flaring gamma-ray blazar TXS 0506+056 as a likely counterpart to the neutrino event IC-170922A. By continuously monitoring the gamma-ray sky, Fermi-LAT plays a key role in the identification of candidate counterparts to realtime neutrino alerts. In this paper, we present the Fermi-LAT strategy for following up high-energy neutrino alerts applied to seven years of IceCube data. Right after receiving an alert, a search is performed in order to identify gamma-ray activity from known and newly detected sources that are positionally consistent with the neutrino localization. In this work, we study the population of blazars found in coincidence with high-energy neutrinos and compare them to the full population of gamma-ray blazars detected by Fermi-LAT. We also evaluate the relationship between the neutrino and gamma-ray luminosities, finding different trends between the two blazar classes BL Lacs and flat-spectrum radio quasars. Although it is well known that the bulk of dark matter (DM) has to be cold, the existence of an additional sub-dominant, hot species remains a valid possibility. In this paper we investigate the potential of the cosmic shear power spectrum to constrain such a mixed (hot plus cold) DM scenario with two additional free parameters, the hot-to-total DM fraction (fhdm) and the thermal mass of the hot component (mhdm). Running a Bayesian inference analysis for both the Kilo-Degree Survey cosmic shear data (KiDS-1000) as well as the cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarisation data from Planck, we derive new constraints for the mixed DM scenario. We find a 95% confidence limit of fhdm < 0.08 for a very hot species of mhdm ≤ 20 eV. This constraint is weakened to fhdm < 0.25 for mhdm ≤ 80 eV. Scenarios with masses above mhdm ∼ 200 eV remain unconstrained by the data. Next to providing limits, we investigate the potential of mixed DM to address the clustering (or S8) tension between lensing and the CMB. We find a reduction of the 2D (Ωm − S8) tension from 2.9σ to 1.6σ when going from a pure cold DM to a mixed DM scenario. When computing the 1D Gaussian tension on S8 the improvement is milder, from 2.4σ to 2.0σ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. The study of the Milky Way is living a golden era thanks to the enormous high-quality datasets delivered by Gaia, and space asteroseismic and ground-based spectroscopic surveys. However, the current major challenge to reconstructing the chronology of the Milky Way is the difficulty to derive precise stellar ages for large samples of stars. The colour–magnitude diagram (CMD) fitting technique offers an alternative to individual age determinations to derive the star formation history (SFH) of complex stellar populations. Aims. Our aim is to obtain a detailed dynamically evolved SFH (deSFH) of the solar neighbourhood, and the age and metallicity distributions that result from it. We define deSFH as the amount of mass transformed into stars, as a function of time and metallicity, in order to account for the population of stars contained in a particular volume. Methods. We present a new package to derive SFHs from CMD fitting tailored to work with Gaia data, called CMDft.Gaia, and we use it to analyse the CMD of the Gaia Catalogue of Nearby Stars (GCNS), which contains a complete census of the (mostly thin disc) stars currently within 100 pc of the Sun. Results. We present an unprecedentedly detailed view of the evolution of the Milky Way disc at the solar radius. The bulk of star formation started 11–10.5 Gyr ago at metallicity around solar, and continued with a slightly decreasing metallicity trend until 6 Gyr ago. Between 6 and 4 Gyr ago, a notable break in the age–metallicity distribution is observed, with three stellar populations with distinct metallicities (sub-solar, solar, and super-solar), possibly indicating some dramatic event in the life of our Galaxy. Star formation then resumed 4 Gyr ago with a somewhat bursty behaviour, metallicity near solar and average star formation rate higher than in the period before 6 Gyr ago. The derived metallicity distribution closely matches precise spectroscopic data, which also show stellar populations deviating from solar metallicity. Interestingly, our results reveal the presence of intermediate-age populations exhibiting both a metallicity typical of the thick disc, approximately [M/H] ≃ −0.5, and super-solar metallicity. Conclusions. The many tests performed indicate that, with high-precision photometric and distance data such as that provided by Gaia, CMDft.Gaia is able to achieve a precision of ≲10% and an accuracy better than 6% in the dating of stellar populations, even at old ages. A comparison with independent spectroscopic metallicity information shows that metallicity distributions are also determined with high precision, without imposing any a priori metallicity information in the fitting process. This opens the door to obtaining detailed and robust information on the evolution of the stellar populations of the Milky Way over cosmic time. The Universe expansion rate is modulated around local inhomogeneities due to their gravitational potential. Velocity waves are then observed around galaxy clusters in the Hubble diagram. This paper studies them in a ∼738 Mpc-wide, 20483-particle cosmological simulation of our cosmic environment (a.k.a. CLONE: Constrained LOcal & Nesting Environment Simulation). For the first time, the simulation shows that velocity waves that arise in the lines of sight of the most massive dark matter halos agree with those observed in local galaxy velocity catalogs in the lines of sight of Coma and several other local (Abell) clusters. For the best-constrained clusters such as Virgo and Centaurus – that is, those closest to us – secondary waves caused by galaxy groups, further into the non-linear regime, also stand out. This match was not utterly expected given that before being evolved into a fully non-linear z = 0 state, assuming ΛCDM, CLONE initial conditions are constrained solely with linear theory, the power spectrum, and highly uncertain and sparse local peculiar velocities. Additionally, Gaussian fits to velocity wave envelopes show that wave properties are tightly tangled with cluster masses. This link is complex, though, and involves the environment and formation history of the clusters. A proposed metric, measuring the distance between the observed and several re-centred simulated lines of sight, waves included, is shown to be capable of providing a tight mass range estimate for massive local clusters. Using machine learning techniques to grasp more thoroughly the complex wave-mass relation, velocity waves could in the near future be used to provide additional and independent mass estimates from galaxy dynamics within large cluster radii. Narrow absorption features in nearby supernova (SN) spectra are a powerful diagnostic of the slow-moving material in the line of sight: they are extensively used to infer dust extinction from the host galaxies, and they can also serve in the detection of circumstellar material originating from the SN progenitor and present in the vicinity of the explosion. Despite their wide use, very few studies have examined the biases of the methods to characterize narrow lines, and not many statistical analyses exist. This is the first paper of a series in which we present a statistical analysis of narrow lines of SN spectra of various resolutions. We developed a robust automated methodology to measure the equivalent width (EW) and velocity of narrow absorption lines from intervening material in the line of sight of SNe, including Na I D, Ca II H&K, K I, and diffuse interstellar bands. We carefully studied systematic biases in heterogeneous spectra from the literature by simulating different signal-to-noise, spectral resolution, size and orientation of the slit, and we present the real capabilities and limitations of using low- and mid-resolution spectra to study these lines. In particular, we find that the measurement of the EW of the narrow lines in low-resolution spectra is highly affected by the evolving broad P-Cygni profiles of the SN ejecta, both for core-collapse and type Ia SNe, inducing a conspicuous apparent evolution. Such pervading non-physical evolution of narrow lines might lead to wrong conclusions on the line-of-sight material, for example concerning circumstellar material ejected from the SN progenitors. We thus present an easy way to detect and exclude those cases to obtain more robust and reliable measurements. Finally, after considering all possible effects, we analysed the temporal evolution of the narrow features in a large sample of nearby SNe to detect any possible variation in their EWs over time. Past studies have long emphasised the key role played by galactic stellar bars in the context of disc secular evolution, via the redistribution of gas and stars, the triggering of star formation, and the formation of prominent structures such as rings and central mass concentrations. However, the exact physical processes acting on those structures, as well as the timescales associated with the building and consumption of central gas reservoirs are still not well understood. We are building a suite of hydro-dynamical RAMSES simulations of isolated, low-redshift galaxies that mimic the properties of the PHANGS sample. The initial conditions of the models reproduce the observed stellar mass, disc scale length, or gas fraction, and this paper presents a first subset of these models. Most of our simulated galaxies develop a prominent bar structure, which itself triggers central gas fuelling and the building of an over-density with a typical scale of 100−1000 pc. We confirm that if the host galaxy features an ellipsoidal component, the formation of the bar and gas fuelling are delayed. We show that most of our simulations follow a common time evolution, when accounting for mass scaling and the bar formation time. In our simulations, the stellar mass of 1010 M⊙ seems to mark a change in the phases describing the time evolution of the bar and its impact on the interstellar medium. In massive discs (M⋆ ≥ 1010 M⊙), we observe the formation of a central gas reservoir with star formation mostly occurring within a restricted starburst region, leading to a gas depletion phase. Lower-mass systems (M⋆ < 1010 M⊙) do not exhibit such a depletion phase, and show a more homogeneous spread of star-forming regions along the bar structure, and do not appear to host inner bar-driven discs or rings. Our results seem to be supported by observations, and we briefly discuss how this new suite of simulations can help our understanding of the secular evolution of main sequence disc galaxies. Neutron stars (NS) that are born in binary systems with a main-sequence star companion can experience mass transfer, resulting in the accumulation of material at the surface of the NS. This, in turn, leads to the continuous growth of the NS mass and the associated steepening of the gravitational potential. Supposing the central density surpasses the onset for the phase transition from nuclear, generally hadronic matter to deconfined quark-gluon plasma, which is a quantity currently constrained solely from an upper limit by asymptotic freedom in quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the system may experience a dynamic response due to the appearance of additional degrees of freedom in the equation of state (EOS). This dynamical response might give rise to a rapid softening of the EOS during the transition in the hadron-quark matter co-existence region. While this phenomenon has long been studied in the context of hydrostatic configurations, the dynamical implications of this problem are still incompletely understood. It is the purpose of the present paper to simulate the dynamics of NSs with previously accreted envelopes caused by the presence of a first-order QCD phase transition. Therefore, we employed the neutrino radiation hydrodynamics treatment based on the fully general relativistic approach in spherical symmetry, implementing a three-flavor Boltzmann neutrino transport and a microscopic model EOS that contains a first-order hadron-quark phase transition. The associated neutrino signal shows a sudden rise in the neutrino fluxes and average energies, becoming observable for the present generation of neutrino detectors for a galactic event, and a gravitational wave mode analysis revealed the behaviors of the dominant f mode and the first and the second gravity g modes that are excited during the NS evolution across the QCD phase transition. Absorption line spectroscopy using background quasars can provide strong constraints on galactic outflows. In this paper we investigate possible scaling relations between outflow properties, namely outflow velocity Vout, mass ejection rate Ṁout, and mass loading factor η, and the host galaxy properties, such as star formation rate (SFR), SFR surface density, redshift, and stellar mass, using galactic outflows probed by background quasars from MEGAFLOW and other surveys. We find that Vout (η) is (anti-)correlated with SFR and SFR surface density. We extend the formalism of momentum-driven outflows from a previous study to show that it applies not only to "down-the-barrel" studies, but also to winds probed by background quasars, suggesting a possible universal wind formalism. Under this formalism, we find a clear distinction between strong and weak outflows where strong outflows seem to have tighter correlations with galaxy properties (SFR or galaxy stellar mass) than weak outflows. Context. We conducted a follow-up study on the analysis of the LOw Frequency ARray (LOFAR) Two-metre Sky Survey (LoTSS) mosaic in the high-latitude outer Galaxy presented in the first paper of this series. Here, we focus on the search for alignment between the magnetic field traced by dust, HI filaments, starlight optical linear polarisation, and linear depolarised structures (depolarisation canals) observed in low-frequency synchrotron polarisation. This alignment was previously found in several smaller fields observed with LOFAR, offering valuable insights into the nature of the interstellar medium and the 3D spatial distribution of the diffuse ionised medium. Aims. We aim to determine whether the alignment of the interstellar medium (ISM) phases observed through multiple tracers is a common occurrence or an exception. Additionally, in areas where depolarisation canals align with the magnetic field, we use starlight polarisation to constrain the distance to the structures associated with the observed canals. Methods. We employed the Rolling Hough Transform (RHT) and projected Rayleigh statistics (PRS) to identify and quantify the alignment between the different tracers. We used these tools to detect linear features in the data and quantify the significance of the orientation trends between pairs of tracers. Results. On the scale of the whole mosaic, we did not find any evidence of a universal alignment among the three tracers. However, in one particular area, the western region (Dec between 29° and 70° and RA between 7h44m and 9h20m), we do find a significant alignment between the magnetic field, depolarisation canals, and HI filaments. Based on this alignment, we used the starlight polarisation of stars with known parallax distances to estimate that the minimum distance to the structures observed by LOFAR in this region lies within the range of 200 to 240 pc. Context. Periodic quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) are considered as candidates of supermassive binary black hole (BBH) systems in galactic centers. The periodicity of their light curves can be interpreted as being due to the Doppler boosting caused by the rotation of the two black holes (BHs). Further confirmation of these candidates may require different lines of observational evidence. Aims. Assuming the Doopler boosting scenario, in this paper we investigate the (coherent) variations of broad emission lines (BELs) and continuum light curves for active BBH systems surrounded by a circumbinary broad-line region (cBLR) and focus on their dependence on the eccentric orbital configuration. Methods. We calculated the variation of continuum light according to the motion of BBHs on elliptical orbits, with simplified orbital orientation for demonstration, the Doppler enhanced or weakened photoionization of each BLR cloud by the central BBH sources and its variation by assuming a shifted Γ-distribution of BLR clouds for a simple BLR geometry, and finally obtain the coherent variation of the continuum and the BELs. Results. We find that the amplitude and variation pattern of the continuum light curves and the evolution of the BEL profiles both sensitively depend on the eccentric orbital configuration of BBH systems, especially when the eccentricity is high. If only the secondary BH is active, the variation amplitudes of continuum light curves and BELs both increase with increasing BBH inclination angles and orbital eccentricities, but decrease with increasing BBH mass ratio. If both BHs are active, the asymmetry in the ionization of BLR clouds at different areas caused by the Doppler boosting effect of the secondary BH is weakened due to that of the primary BH at the opposite direction, which leads to systematically smaller variation amplitudes of both continuum light curves and BELs compared with those in the cases where only secondary the BH is activated. Conclusions. The coherent variations of the BEL profiles with the continuum light for those periodic QSOs provide an important way to confirm the existence of BBHs in their center. Future joint analysis of the light curves and multi-epoch observed BEL profiles for periodic QSOs may lead to the identification of a number of BBH systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. The last two decades have witnessed dramatic progress in our understanding of neutron star magnetospheres thanks to force-free and particle-in-cell simulations. However, the associated particle dynamics and its emission mechanisms and locations have not been fully constrained, notably in X-rays. Aims. In this paper, we compute a full atlas of radio, X-ray, and γ-ray pulse profiles, relying on the force-free magnetosphere model. Our goal is to use such a data bank of multi-wavelength profiles to fit a substantial number of radio-loud γ-ray pulsars that have also been detected in non-thermal X-rays to decipher the X-ray radiation mechanism and sites. Using results from the third γ-ray pulsar catalogue (3PC), we investigate the statistical properties of this population. Methods. We assume that radio emission emanates from field lines rooted to the polar caps, at varying height above the surface, close to the surface, at an altitude about 5–10% of the light cylinder radius, rL. The X-ray photons are produced in the separatrix region within the magnetosphere; that is, the current sheet formed by the jump from closed to open magnetic field lines. We allow for substantial variations in emission height. The γ-rays are produced within the current sheet of the striped wind, outside the light cylinder. Results. A comprehensive set of radio, X-ray, and γ-ray light curves was computed. Based on only geometric considerations about magnetic obliquity, line-of-sight inclination, and the radio beam cone opening angle, pulsars can be classified as radio-loud or quiet and as γ-ray-loud or quiet. We found that the 3PC sample is compatible with an isotropic distribution of obliquity and line of sight. Conclusions. The atlases constructed in this work are the fundamental tools with which to explore individual pulsars and fit their multi-wavelength pulse profiles in order to constrain their magnetic topology, the emission sites, and the observer's line of sight. Context. Modeling the convection process is a long-standing problem in stellar physics. To date, all ad hoc models have relied on a free parameter, α, (among others) that has no real physical justification and is therefore poorly constrained. However, a link exists between this free parameter and the entropy of the stellar adiabat. There are existing prescriptions, derived from 3D stellar atmospheric models, that treat entropy as a function of stellar atmospheric parameters (effective temperature, surface gravity, and chemical composition). This can offer sufficient constraints on α through the development of entropy-calibrated models. However, several questions have arisen as these models are increasingly used with respect to which prescription should be used and whether it ought to be used in its original form, along with the impacts of uncertainties on entropy-calibrated models. Aims. We aim to study the three existing prescriptions in detail and determine which of them demonstrate the most optimal performance and how it should be applied. Methods. We implemented the entropy-calibration method into the stellar evolution code (Cesam2k20) and performed comparisons with the Sun and the α Cen system. In addition, we used data from the CIFIST grid of 3D atmosphere models to evaluate the accuracy of the prescriptions. Results. Of the three entropy prescriptions currently available, we determined the one that has the best functional form for reproducing the entropies of the 3D models. However, the coefficients involved in this formulation must not be taken from the original paper because they were calibrated against a flawed set of entropies. We also demonstrate that the entropy obtained from this prescription should be corrected for the evolving chemical composition and for an entropy offset different between various EoS tables. This must be done following a precise procedure to ensure that the classical parameters obtained from the models are not strongly biased. Finally, we provide a data table with entropy of the adiabat of the CIFIST grid, along with the fits for these entropies. Conclusions. Thanks to a precise examination of entropy-calibrated modeling, we are able to offer our recommendations with respect to which adiabatic entropy prescription to use, how to correct it, and how to implement the method into a stellar evolution code. The existing reservoirs of neutral atomic hydrogen gas (H I) in galaxies are insufficient to have maintained the observed levels of star formation without some kind of replenishment. This refuelling of the H I reservoirs is likely to occur at column densities an order of magnitude lower than previous observational limits (NH I, limit ∼ 1019 cm−2 at a 30″ resolution over a linewidth of 20 km s−1). In this paper, we present recent deep H I observations of NGC 5068, a nearby isolated star-forming galaxy observed by MeerKAT as part of the MHONGOOSE survey. With these new data, we were able to detect low column density H I around NGC 5068 with a 3σ detection limit of NH I = 6.4 × 1017 cm−2 at a 90″ resolution over a 20 km s−1 linewidth. The high sensitivity and resolution of the MeerKAT data reveal a complex morphology of the H I in this galaxy – a regularly rotating inner disk coincident with the main star-forming disk of the galaxy, a warped outer disk of low column density gas (NH I < 9 × 1019 cm−2), in addition to clumps of gas on the north-western side of the galaxy. We employed a simple two disk model that described the inner and outer disks, which enabled us to identify anomalous gas that deviates from the rotation of the main galaxy. The morphology and the kinematics of the anomalous gas suggest a possible extra-galactic origin. We explore a number of possible origin scenarios that may explain the anomalous gas, and conclude that fresh accretion is the most likely scenario. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. This work is the seventh study in a series dedicated to investigating degeneracies of simultaneous age, mass, extinction, and metallicity determinations of partially resolved or unresolved star clusters with Hubble Space Telescope broadband aperture photometry. In the sixth work (hereafter, Paper I), it was demonstrated that the adaptive aperture photometry, performed to avoid the majority of the projected foreground and background stars falling within the apertures, gives more consistent colour indices for star clusters. Aims. In this study, we aim to supplement the homogeneous multi-colour aperture photometry results published in Paper I and provide a complete M 31 Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury (PHAT) survey star cluster photometry catalogue for further analysis. Methods. Following Paper I, we used a two-aperture approach for photometry. The first aperture is the standard one used to measure total cluster fluxes. The second (smaller) aperture is introduced to avoid the bright foreground and background stars projecting onto the clusters. We selected the radii of smaller apertures to be larger than the half-light radii of the clusters. Results. We present the second part of the star cluster aperture photometry catalogues for a sample of 1477 star clusters from the M 31 PHAT survey not covered in Paper I. Compared to the M 31 PHAT star cluster aperture photometry catalogue published by Johnson et al., adjustments were made to the cluster centre coordinates, aperture sizes, and sky background levels. Context. Thanks to the Mid-InfraRed Instrument (MIRI) on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), our ability to observe the star formation process in the infrared has greatly improved. Due to its unprecedented spatial and spectral resolution and sensitivity in the mid-infrared, JWST/MIRI can see through highly extincted protostellar envelopes and probe the warm inner regions. An abundant molecule in these warm inner regions is SO2, which is a common tracer of both outflow and accretion shocks as well as hot core chemistry. Aims. This paper presents the first mid-infrared detection of gaseous SO2 emission in an embedded low-mass protostellar system rich in complex molecules and aims to determine the physical origin of the SO2 emission. Methods. JWST/MIRI observations taken with the Medium Resolution Spectrometer (MRS) of the low-mass protostellar binary NGC 1333 IRAS 2A in the JWST Observations of Young protoStars (JOYS+) program are presented. The observations reveal emission from the SO2v3 asymmetric stretching mode at 7.35 µm. Using simple slab models and assuming local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE), we derived the rotational temperature and total number of SO2 molecules. We then compared the results to those derived from high-angular-resolution SO2 data on the same scales (~50–100 au) obtained with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA). Results. The SO2 emission from the v3 band is predominantly located on ~50–100 au scales around the mid-infrared continuum peak of the main component of the binary, IRAS 2A1. A rotational temperature of 92 ± 8 K is derived from the v3 lines. This is in good agreement with the rotational temperature derived from pure rotational lines in the vibrational ground state (i.e., v = 0) with ALMA (104 ± 5 K), which are extended over similar scales. However, the emission of the v3 lines in the MIRI-MRS spectrum is not in LTE given that the total number of molecules predicted by a LTE model is found to be a factor of 2 × 104 higher than what is derived for the v = 0 state from the ALMA data. This difference can be explained by a vibrational temperature that is ~100 K higher than the derived rotational temperature of the v = 0 state: Tvib ~ 200 K versus Trot = 104 ± 5 K. The brightness temperature derived from the continuum around the v3 band (~7.35 µm) of SO2 is ~180 K, which confirms that the v3 = 1 level is not collisionally populated but rather infrared-pumped by scattered radiation. This is also consistent with the non-detection of the v2 bending mode at 18–20 µm. The similar rotational temperature derived from the MIRI-MRS and ALMA data implies that they are in fact tracing the same molecular gas. The inferred abundance of SO2 , determined using the LTE fit to the lines of the vibrational ground state in the ALMA data, is 1.0 ± 0.3 × 10−8 with respect to H2, which is on the lower side compared to interstellar and cometary ices (10−8−10−7). Conclusions. Given the rotational temperature, the extent of the emission (~100 au in radius), and the narrow line widths in the ALMA data (~3.5 km s−1), the SO2 in IRAS 2A likely originates from ice sublimation in the central hot core around the protostar rather than from an accretion shock at the disk–envelope boundary. Furthermore, this paper shows the importance of radiative pumping and of combining JWST observations with those from millimeter interferometers such as ALMA to probe the physics on disk scales and to infer molecular abundances. Context. With a mass exceeding several 104M⊙ and a rich and dense population of massive stars, supermassive young star clusters represent the most massive star-forming environment that is dominated by the feedback from massive stars and gravitational interactions among stars. Aims. In this paper we present the Extended Westerlund 1 and 2 Open Clusters Survey (EWOCS) project, which aims to investigate the influence of the starburst environment on the formation of stars and planets, and on the evolution of both low and high mass stars. The primary targets of this project are Westerlund 1 and 2, the closest supermassive star clusters to the Sun. Methods. The project is based primarily on recent observations conducted with the Chandra and JWST observatories. Specifically, the Chandra survey of Westerlund 1 consists of 36 new ACIS-I observations, nearly co-pointed, for a total exposure time of 1 Msec. Additionally, we included 8 archival Chandra/ACIS-S observations. This paper presents the resulting catalog of X-ray sources within and around Westerlund 1. Sources were detected by combining various existing methods, and photon extraction and source validation were carried out using the ACIS-Extract software. Results. The EWOCS X-ray catalog comprises 5963 validated sources out of the 9420 initially provided to ACIS-Extract, reaching a photon flux threshold of approximately 2 × 10−8 photons cm−2 s−1. The X-ray sources exhibit a highly concentrated spatial distribution, with 1075 sources located within the central 1 arcmin. We have successfully detected X-ray emissions from 126 out of the 166 known massive stars of the cluster, and we have collected over 71 000 photons from the magnetar CXO J164710.20-455217. Context. With the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) generation of telescopes come new challenges. The complexity of these telescopes' pupils creates new problems for adaptive optics (AO) that prevent the telescopes from reaching the theoretical resolutions that their size allows. In particular, the large spiders necessary to support the massive optics of these telescopes create discontinuities in the wavefront measurement. These discontinuities appear as a new phase error dubbed the "petal mode." This error is described as a differential piston between the fragment of the pupil separated by the spiders and is responsible for a strong degradation in the imaging quality, reducing the European ELT's resolution to that of a 15m telescope. Aims. The aim of this paper is to study the measurement of the petal mode by AO sensors. In particular, we want to understand why the pyramid wavefront sensor (PyWFS), the first-light wavefront sensor of any ELT-generation telescope, cannot measure this petal mode under normal conditions, and how to enable this measurement by adapting the AO control scheme and the PyWFS. Methods. To facilitate our study, we considered a simplified version of the petal mode, featuring a simpler pupil than the ELT. This allowed us to quickly simulate the properties of the petal mode and its measurement by the PyWFS. We studied specifically how a system that separates the atmospheric turbulence from the petal measurement would behave. Studying the petal mode's power spectral density, we proposed using a spatial filter to reduce the contribution of AO residuals to the benefit of petal mode contribution, eventually enabling it to be measured. Finally, we demonstrated our proposed system with end-to-end simulations. Results. A solution proposed to measure the petal mode is to use an unmodulated PyWFS (uPyWFS), but the uPyWFS does not make accurate measurements in the presence of atmospheric residuals. A spatial filtering step, consisting of a pinhole around the pyramid tip, reduces the first path residuals seen by the uPyWFS and restores its accuracy. This system was able to measure and control the petal mode during the end-to-end simulation. Conclusions. To address the petal problem, a two-path AO with a sensor dedicated to the measurement of the petal mode seems necessary. The question remains as to what could be used as the second path petalometer. Through this paper, we demonstrate that an uPyWFS can confuse the petal mode with the residuals from the first path. However, adding a spatial filter on top of said uPyWFS makes it a good petalometer candidate. This spatial filtering step makes the uPyWFS less sensitive to the first path residuals while retaining its ability to measure the petal mode. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. Close binary central stars of planetary nebulae (PNe) must have formed through a common envelope evolution during the giant phase experienced by one of the stars. Transfer of the angular momentum from the binary system to the envelope leads to the shortening of the binary separations from the radius of red giant to the radius of the order of few tenths of AU. Thus, close binary central stars of planetary nebulae are laboratories to study the common envelope phase of evolution. The close binary fraction in the Galaxy has been measured in various sky surveys, but the close binary fraction is not yet well constrained for the Magellanic Clouds, and our results may help the study of common envelope evolution in low-metallicity environments. Aims. This paper presents a continuation of our study of variability in the Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae on the basis of data from the OGLE survey. Previously, we had analysed the OGLE data in the Small Magellanic Cloud. Here, the study is extended to the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). In this paper we search for close binary central stars with the aim to constrain the binary fraction and period distribution in the LMC. Methods. We identified 290 counterparts of PNe in the LMC in the I-band images from the OGLE-III and OGLE-IV surveys. However, the light curves of ten objects were not accessible in the OGLE database, and thus we analysed the time series photometry of 280 PNe. Results. In total, 32 variables were found, but 5 of them turned out to be foreground objects. Another 18 objects show irregular or regular variability that is not attributable to the binarity of their central stars. Their status and the nature of their variability will be verified in the follow-up paper. Nine binary central stars of PNe with periods between 0.24 and 23.6 days were discovered. The obtained fraction for the LMC PNe is 3.3-1.6+2.6% without correcting for incompleteness. This number is significantly lower than the 12–21% derived in the analogous search in the Galactic bulge. We discuss this difference, taking into account observational biases. The lower binary fraction suggests a lower efficiency of the common envelope phase in producing close binaries in the LMC compared to the Galaxy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. The theory of rotational and chemical evolution is incomplete, thereby limiting the accuracy of model-dependent stellar mass and age determinations. The γ Doradus (γ Dor) pulsators are excellent points of calibration for the current state-of-the-art stellar evolution models, as their gravity modes probe the physical conditions in the deep stellar interior. Yet, individual asteroseismic modelling of these stars is not always possible because of insufficient observed oscillation modes. Aims. This paper presents a novel method to derive distributions of the stellar mass, age, core-boundary mixing efficiency, and initial rotation rates for γ Dor stars. Methods. We computed a grid of rotating stellar evolution models covering the entire γ Dor instability strip. We then used the observed distributions of the luminosity, effective temperature, buoyancy travel time, and near-core rotation frequency of a sample of 539 stars to assign a statistical weight to each of our models. This weight is a measure of how likely the combination of a specific model is. We then computed weighted histograms to derive the most likely distributions of the fundamental stellar properties. Results. We find that the rotation frequency at zero-age main sequence follows a normal distribution, peaking at around 25% of the critical Keplerian rotation frequency. The probability-density function for extent of the core-boundary mixing zone, given by a factor of fCBM times the local pressure scale height (assuming an exponentially decaying parameterisation), decreases linearly with increasing fCBM. Conclusions. Converting the distribution of fractions of critical rotation at the zero-age main sequence to units of d−1, we find most F-type stars start the main sequence with a rotation frequency between 0.5 d−1 and 2 d−1. In this paper, we present the results of a comprehensive study of six eclipsing binaries whose components are confirmed or suspected Am stars. By combining long-term, high-resolution Catania Astrophysical Observatory Spectropolarimeter (CAOS) spectroscopy and TESS photometry, we have been able to accurately obtain the orbital parameters of each system as well as the atmospheric parameters of its components. We performed an in-depth chemical analysis and provided chemical abundances of C, O, Na, Mg, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Zn, Sr, Y, Zr, and Ba. From the solution of the light and radial curves, we have determined the masses, radii, and temperatures with a good degree of accuracy. We observe apsidal motion in the eccentric system HD 216429, in which the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect is also noted. We inferred the age of our targets by fitting isochrones on the HR diagram and find that both components in each system are properly described with the same isochrone, which reinforces our results. Furthermore, dynamical and evolutionary masses, independently obtained, show an excellent agreement. According to the out-of-eclipse variability shown in their TESS light curves and their position on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, we claim that the stars HD 42954 (as δ Sct type) and HD 151604 (γ Dor) have a pulsating nature. Based on the chemical analysis, we corroborate that four of the systems studied here are formed by Am stars, while in the remaining ones (HD 126031 and HD 216429) only the primary component exhibits a peculiar composition. Additionally, the age distribution found in Am stars supports their suitability as age tracers in stellar populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. The emergence of the disc in our Galaxy and the relation between thick and thin disc formation and evolution is still a matter of debate. The chemo-dynamical characterization of disc stars is key to resolving this question, particularly at parameter regimes, where both disc components overlap, such as the region around [Fe/H] ∼ −0.7 corresponding to the thin disc's metal-poor end. Aims. In this paper, we re-assess the recent detection of a metal-poor extension of stars moving with thin-disc-like rotational velocities between −2 < [Fe/H] < −0.7, carried out on the basis of metallicity estimates obtained from photometric data and their rotational velocity distributions. Methods. We explored the chemo-dynamical properties of metal-poor stars from the recent Gaia third data release (DR3), which includes the first catalog of metallicity estimates from the Radial Velocity Spectrometer (RVS) experiment. We complemented them with the two largest high-resolution (λ/dλ >  20 000) spectroscopic surveys available: the GALAH DR3 and the APOGEE DR17. Results. We confirm that there are high-angular-momentum stars moving in thin-disc-like orbits, that is, with a high angular momentum of Lz/Jtot >  0.95, and close to the Galactic plane, |Zmax|< 750 pc, reaching metallicity values down to [Fe/H] ∼ −1.5. We also find tentative evidence for stars moving on such orbits at lower metallicities, down to [Fe/H] ∼ −2.5, albeit in smaller numbers. Based on their chemical trends, thin-disc-like stars with [Fe/H] < −1 would have formed in a medium that is less chemically evolved than the bulk of the thick disc. Stars with chemical abundances typical of the thin disc appear at metallicities between −1 < [Fe/H] < −0.7. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We performed three-dimensional numerical simulations of magnetized relativistic jets propagating in a uniform density environment in order to study the effect of the entrainment and the consequent deceleration, extending a previous work in which magnetic effects were not present. As in previous papers, our aim is to understand the connection between the jet properties and the resulting Fanaroff-Riley classification. We considered jets with different low densities, and therefore low power, and different magnetizations. We find that lower magnetization jets effectively decelerate to sub-relativistic velocities and may then result in an FR I morphology on larger scales. Conversely, in the higher magnetization cases, the entrainment and consequent deceleration are substantially reduced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we investigate the impact of lensing magnification on the analysis of Euclid's spectroscopic survey using the multipoles of the two-point correlation function for galaxy clustering. We determine the impact of lensing magnification on cosmological constraints as well as the expected shift in the best-fit parameters if magnification is ignored. We considered two cosmological analyses: (i) a full-shape analysis based on the Λ cold dark matter (CDM) model and its extension w0waCDM and (ii) a model-independent analysis that measures the growth rate of structure in each redshift bin. We adopted two complementary approaches in our forecast: the Fisher matrix formalism and the Markov chain Monte Carlo method. The fiducial values of the local count slope (or magnification bias), which regulates the amplitude of the lensing magnification, have been estimated from the Euclid Flagship simulations. We used linear perturbation theory and modelled the two-point correlation function with the public code coffe. For a ΛCDM model, we find that the estimation of cosmological parameters is biased at the level of 0.4–0.7 standard deviations, while for a w0waCDM dynamical dark energy model, lensing magnification has a somewhat smaller impact, with shifts below 0.5 standard deviations. For a model-independent analysis aimed at measuring the growth rate of structure, we find that the estimation of the growth rate is biased by up to 1.2 standard deviations in the highest redshift bin. As a result, lensing magnification cannot be neglected in the spectroscopic survey, especially if we want to determine the growth factor, one of the most promising ways to test general relativity with Euclid. We also find that, by including lensing magnification with a simple template, this shift can be almost entirely eliminated with minimal computational overhead. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Context. Estimating the physical states of the surfaces of fast-rotating stars is challenging due to several intrinsic processes, which include radiative flux inhomogeneities on the photosphere induced by rotation and circumstellar signatures in their spectra. The analysis of their spectra ultimately requires the use of synthetic grids of spectra accounting for all these physical processes. Aims. In this paper, we present the 'von ZeiPEl's code for gravity darKening specTRal synthesis' (ZPEKTR) code, which is designed to perform the spectral synthesis of fast-rotating stars, accounting for gravity darkening, limb-darkening effects in the continuum and geometrical deformation induced by fast rotation. Methods. We consider colatitudinal temperature and surface-gravity variations, assuming both the classical prescription developed by von Zeipel and the new formulation by Espinosa-Lara. The code runs either with a rectangular or a triangular mesh on the stellar surface. We compare the temperature and gravitational distribution as a function of the stellar latitude arising from both models. Results. The line profiles of He I 4388, 4471, 4922, and 6678 Å produced with both formalisms are compared at three different rotation rates and illustrate differences in shape and central intensity. We also illustrate the fittings of 31 line spectra of classical Be stars averaged from the Be Stars Observation Survey (BeSOS) database and make a comparison among their apparent physical parameters and ages determined from plane-parallel non-local thermodynamical equilibrium (non-LTE) models and parameters determined from classical von Zeipel models, finding a displacement of more evolved objects towards the zero-age main sequence. We also compare the distributions of projected rotation velocities of these objects obtained with and without the inclusion of gravity-darkening effects with ZPEKTR. Conclusions. We observe a shift of the histogram of rotation velocities calculated accounting for effects of gravity darkening concerning rotation velocities obtained through the fittings with classical plane-parallel non-LTE models. We show that models that do not account for gravity darkening can underestimate the rotation velocity, because the stellar latitudes that contribute the higher velocities are those in the equator with the least radiative flux. Aims. A series of high-precision calculations for the electronic structure of MgH have been reported in the past two decades; however, most of them d not include the core-valence correlation and still exhibit distinct differences. Furthermore, the latest high-precision results have not been applied to the studies of photodissociation dynamics. The primary motivations of this paper are to calculate a more precise electronic structure of MgH consering a core-valence correlation and to prove the photodissociation cross-sections. Methods. The electronic structure of MgH is investigated by multi-reference configuration interaction calculations with Davson correction (MRCI+Q). We performed two different sets of calculations to investigate the core-valence correlation and, as a result, obtained accurate potential energy curves (PECs) and transition dipole moments (TDMs). An extrapolation procedure was also employed to eliminate the error of basis set. Then, the photodissociation cross-sections were calculated using high-precision PECs and TDMs. Results. The PECs and TDMs of the five lowest doublet electronic states, X2Σ+, B′2Σ+, E2Σ+, A2Π, and C2Π, are obtained from calculations including core-valence correlation, termed as CV-MRCI, while PECs of the ten lowest doublet states and three quartet states are also obtained from NCV-MRCI calculations without core-valence correlation. The spectroscopic constants and band oscillator strengths are also proved with high precision levels. The equilibrium Re and vertical excitation energy Te are only 0.1% different from the measurements. Based on the CV-MRCI results, the rovibrationally resolved photodissociation cross-sections for transitions from X2Σ+ to the other four states, as well as the total local thermodynamic equilibrium cross-sections for temperatures up to 10000 K, are calculated. Context. The Li abundance observed in pre-main sequence and main sequence late-type stars is strongly age-dependent, but also shows a complex pattern depending on several parameters, such as rotation, chromospheric activity, and metallicity. The best way to calibrate these effects, and with the aim of studying Li as an age indicator for FGK stars, is to calibrate coeval groups of stars, such as open clusters (OCs) and associations. Aims. We present a considerable target sample of 42 OCs and associations – with an age range from 1 Myr to 5 Gyr – observed within the Gaia-ESO survey (GES), and using the latest data provided by GES iDR6 and the most recent release of Gaia that was then available, EDR3. As part of this study, we update and improve the membership analysis for all 20 OCs presented in our previous article. Methods. We perform detailed membership analyses for all target clusters to identify likely candidates, using all available parameters provided by GES, complemented with detailed bibliographical searches, and based on numerous criteria: from radial velocity distributions, to the astrometry (proper motions and parallaxes) and photometry provided by Gaia, to gravity indicators (log g and the γ index), [Fe/H] metallicity, and Li content in diagrams of (Li equivalent widths) EW(Li) versus Teff. Results. We obtain updated lists of cluster members for the whole target sample, as well as a selection of Li-rich giant contaminants obtained as an additional result of the membership process. Each selection of cluster candidates was thoroughly contrasted with numerous existing membership studies using data from Gaia to ensure the most robust results. Conclusions. These final cluster selections will be used in the third and last paper of this series, which reports the results of a comparative study characterising the observable Li dispersion in each cluster and analysing its dependence on several parameters, allowing us to calibrate a Li–age relation and obtain a series of empirical Li envelopes for key ages in our sample. The Euclid photometric survey of galaxy clusters stands as a powerful cosmological tool, with the capacity to significantly propel our understanding of the Universe. Despite being subdominant to dark matter and dark energy, the baryonic component of our Universe holds substantial influence over the structure and mass of galaxy clusters. This paper presents a novel model that can be used to precisely quantify the impact of baryons on the virial halo masses of galaxy clusters using the baryon fraction within a cluster as a proxy for their effect. Constructed on the premise of quasi-adiabaticity, the model includes two parameters, which are calibrated using non-radiative cosmological hydrodynamical simulations, and a single large-scale simulation from the Magneticum set, which includes the physical processes driving galaxy formation. As a main result of our analysis, we demonstrate that this model delivers a remarkable 1% relative accuracy in determining the virial dark matter-only equivalent mass of galaxy clusters starting from the corresponding total cluster mass and baryon fraction measured in hydrodynamical simulations. Furthermore, we demonstrate that this result is robust against changes in cosmological parameters and against variation of the numerical implementation of the subresolution physical processes included in the simulations. Our work substantiates previous claims regarding the impact of baryons on cluster cosmology studies. In particular, we show how neglecting these effects would lead to biased cosmological constraints for a Euclid-like cluster abundance analysis. Importantly, we demonstrate that uncertainties associated with our model arising from baryonic corrections to cluster masses are subdominant when compared to the precision with which mass–observable (i.e. richness) relations will be calibrated using Euclid and to our current understanding of the baryon fraction within galaxy clusters. The mysterious nature of the dark sector of the Λ-cold-dark-matter (ΛCDM) model is one of the main motivators behind the study of alternative cosmological models. A central quantity of interest for these models is the matter power spectrum, which quantifies structure formation on various scales and can be cross-validated through theory, simulations, and observations. Here, we present a tool that can be used to create emulators for the non-linear matter power spectrum, and similar global clustering statistics, for models beyond ΛCDM with very little computation effort and without the need for supercomputers. We use fast approximate N-body simulations to emulate the boost, B(k, z) = Pbeyond − ΛCDM(k, z)/PΛCDM(k, z), and then rely on existing high-quality emulators made for ΛCDM to isolate Pbeyond − ΛCDM(k, z). Since both the ΛCDM and beyond-ΛCDM models are simulated in our approach, some of the lack of power on small scales due to the low force-resolution in the simulations is factored out, allowing us to extend the emulator to k ∼ 3 − 5 h Mpc−1 and still maintain good accuracy. In addition, errors from the simulation and emulation process can easily be estimated and factored into the covariance when using the emulator on data. As an example of using the pipeline, we create an emulator for the well-studied f(R) model with massive neutrinos, using approximately 3000 CPU hours of computation time. Provided with the paper is a fully functioning pipeline that generates parameter samples, runs a Boltzmann solver to produce initial conditions, runs the simulations, and then gathers all the data and runs it through a machine learning module to develop the emulator. Transmission spectroscopy is a proven technique for studying a transiting exoplanet's atmosphere. However, stellar surface inhomogeneities – spots and faculae – alter the observed transmission spectra: the stellar contamination effect. The variable nature of the stellar activity also makes it difficult to stitch together multi-epoch observations and evaluate any potential variability in the exoplanet's atmosphere. This paper introduces SAGE, a tool that corrects for the time-dependent impact of stellar activity on transmission spectra. It uses a pixelation approach to model the stellar surface with spots and faculae, while fully accounting for limb-darkening and rotational line-broadening. The current version is designed for low- to medium-resolution spectra. We used SAGE to evaluate stellar contamination for F- to M-type hosts, testing various spot sizes and locations, and quantify the impact of limb-darkening. We find that limb-darkening enhances the importance of the spot location on the stellar disc, with spots close to the disc centre impacting the transmission spectra more strongly than spots near the limb. Moreover, due to the chromaticity of limb-darkening, the shape of the contamination spectrum is also altered. Additionally, SAGE can be used to retrieve the properties and distribution of active regions on the stellar surface from photometric monitoring. We demonstrate this for WASP-69 using TESS data, finding that two spots at midlatitudes and a combined coverage fraction of ~1% are favoured. SAGE allows us to connect the photometric variability to the stellar contamination of transmission spectra, enhancing our ability to jointly interpret transmission spectra obtained at different epochs.
