Purpose: This study was conducted to provide basic data for quality improvement among oncology advanced practice nurses (oncology APNs) through increasing job satisfaction by determining their job satisfaction level and analyzing the influencing factors. Methods: The subjects were 114 certified oncology APNs working at general hospitals in metropolitan areas. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from August 4 to October 29, 2018. The instruments were the Role Conflict Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale, Professional Self-Concept Scale, and the Level of Job Satisfaction. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, chi-square tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression in SPSS version 23.0, IBM. Results: Factors that significantly affected job satisfaction were number of years since being certified as an oncology APN (β=-.20, p=.031), oncology advanced practice (β=.38, p<.001), and professional self-concept (β=.44, p<.001). The explanatory power was 39.4%. Conclusion: These results showed that factors significantly affecting job satisfaction were number of years since being certified as an oncology APN, advanced practice in oncology, and professional self-concept. Job satisfaction was found to be higher when the number of years since being certified as an oncology APN was shorter and professional self-concept was higher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was performed to examine vascular pain due to gemcitabine and according to clinical factors. Methods: The survey was performed with 525 cancer patients visiting chemotherapy infusion room in one general hospital. The data were collected via self-reported questionnaire, researchers observation, and reviewing medical records. Data were analyzed descriptive statistics, ttest, Kruskal-Wallis test, Tukey test using ranks, Jonckheere-Terpstra test, and Spearman correlation analysis were used. Results: The mean scores of the intensity and onset time of vascular pain were 3.06±2.16 and 8.13±13.13 min, and each other were negative correlaton. Degree of intensity of vascular pain had a significant difference on gender (p=.003), age (p=.004), weight (p=.019), Body mass index (BMI) (p=.005), Body surface area (BSA) (p=.030), infusion time (p<.001), dose (p=.027), dose per minute (p<.001), the number of administered gemcitabine (p=.005), combination chemotherapeutic drug (p=.013) and tumor type (p=.002). Degree of onset time of vascular pain had a significant difference on infusion time (p=.044), combination chemotherapy (p=.001) and injection site (p=.001). Conclusion: Patients administrated gemcitabine were experiencing various vascular pain, and vascular pain had a difference on clinical factors. Therefore, oncology nurses should be considered significant clinical factors to implement effective interventions to patients administered gemcitabine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of P6 acupressure and guided imagery on nausea, vomiting, retching, and anorexia of the patient with thyroid cancer who were undergoing high dose radio-active iodine therapy (HD-RAIT). Methods: Using a randomized control group pretest-posttest study design, the participants were randomly assigned into the control group (C), the experimental group I (E1, P6 acupressure only) and the experimental group II (E2, P6 acupressure and a guided imagery). The patients were recruited from December 2011 to June 2012 in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, South Korea. A total of 82 patients completed the study. The Korean version of the Rhodes INVR and the anorexia scale by Grant (1987) were used. Results: The levels of nausea, vomiting, retching, and anorexia were significantly different among the groups. The levels of nausea and retching especially showed significant group differences over time. Synergic effects of P6 acupressure with guided imagery had significant effects over separate P6 acupressure intervention. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological and nurse-provided P6 acupressure and guided imagery appeared to be effective and safe in reducing nausea, vomiting, retching, and anorexia of the patients with thyroid cancer underwent HD-RAIT.
