The global advocacy of resource conservation and waste management emphasizes the significance of sustainable practices, particularly in sectors such as paper manufacturing and recycling. Currently, conventional chemical methods are predominant for paper production, necessitating the use of substantial amount of toxic chemicals. This chemical-intensive approach compromises the recycled fiber quality, generates hazardous effluent causing serious ecological threats which triggers regulatory complexities for the mills. To address these challenges modern research suggests adopting sustainable eco-friendly practices such as employing enzymes. This review aims to explore the applicability of 'laccase' enzyme for paper recycling, investigating its properties and contribution to improved recycling practices. By delving into the potential application of laccase integration into the papermaking process, this article sheds light on the limitations inherent in traditional methods surmounted within both research and translational landscapes. Aim of this study was to optimize the production of Ligninolytic enzyme for the degradation of complex pollutants present in pulp paper industrial effluent (PPIE). Two ligninolytic enzyme-producing bacterial strains were isolated from PPIE and identified as Bacillus paramycoides strain BL2 (MZ676667) and Micrococcus luteus strains BL3 (MZ676668). The identified bacterial strain Bacillus paramycoides strain BL2 showed optimum production of LiP (4.30 U/ml), MnP (3.38 U/ml) at 72 h of incubation, while laccase (4.43 U/ml) at 96 h of incubation. While, Micrococcus luteus strains BL3 produced maximum LiP (3.98) and MnP (3.85 U/ml) at 96 h of incubation and maximum laccase (3.85 U/ml) at 72 h of incubation, pH 7-8, and temperatures of 30-35 °C. Furthermore, in the presence of glucose (1.0%) and peptone (0.5%) as nutrient sources, the enzyme activity of consortium leads to reduction of lignin (70%), colour (63%) along with COD (71%) and BOD (58%). The pollutants detected in control i.e. 3.6-Dioxa-2,7-disilaoctane, 2-Heptnoic acid,trimethylsilyl ester, 7-Methyldinaphtho [2,1-b,1',2'-d] silole, Hexadeconoic acid, trimethylysilyl ester, Methyl1(Z)-3,3-dipheny.1-4-hexenoale, 2,6,10,14,18,22-Tetracosahexane,2,2-dimethylpropyl(2Z,6E)-10,11epoxy5,6 Dihyrostigmasterol, acetate were completely diminished. Brazilian biomes are important sources for environmental microorganisms, including efficient metabolic machineries, like actinomycetes. These bacteria are known for their abilities to produce many bioactive compounds, including enzymes with multiple industrial applications. The present work aimed to evaluate lignocellulolytic abilities of actinomycetes isolated from soil and rhizosphere samples collected at Caatinga, Atlantic and Amazon Forest. Laccase (Lac), lignin peroxidase (LiP), manganese peroxidase (MnP) and cellulase were evaluated for their efficiency. These enzymes have an essential role in lignin decomposition, through oxidation of phenolic and non-phenolic compounds, as well as enzymatic hydrolysis of vegetal biomass. In this sense, a total of 173 actinomycetes were investigated. Eleven (11) of them were selected by their enzymatic performance. The actinomycete AC166 displayed some activity in all analysed scenarios in terms of Lac, MnP and LiP activity, while AC171 was selected as the most promising strain, showing the following activities: 29.7 U.L -1 for Lac; 2.5 U.L -1 for LiP and 23 U.L -1 for MnP. Cellulolytic activities were evaluated at two pH conditions, 4.8 and 7.4, obtaining the following results: 25 U.L -1 and 71 U.L -1 , respectively. Thermostability (4, 30 and 60 o C) and salinity concentrations (0 to 4 M) and pH variation (2.0 to 9.0) stabilities of the obtained LiP and Lac enzymatic extracts were also verified. The actinomycete strain AC171 displayed an adaptable response in distinct pH and salt profiles, indicating that bacterial LiP was some halophilic type. Polylactic acid (PLA) is a range of unique bioplastics that are bio-based and biodegradable. PLA is currently driving market expansion for lactic acid (LA) due to its high demand as a building block in production. One of the most practical and environmentally benign techniques for synthesising PLA is through enzymatic polymerisation of microbial LA monomers. However, microbial LA fermentation does have some limitations. Firstly, it requires the use of a nutritionally rich medium. Secondly, LA production can be disrupted by bacteriophage infection or other microorganisms. Lastly, the yield can be low due to the formation of by-products through heterofermentative pathway. Considering the potential use of PLA as a replacement for conventional petrochemical-based polymers in industrial applications, researchers are focused on exploring the diversity of LA-producing microorganisms from various niches. Their goal is to study the functional properties of these microorganisms and their ability to produce industrially valuable metabolites. The investigation of lignocellulolytic catalysts is an important feature to face the challenges of lignocellulosic biomass valorization. In central Morocco, fungi were isolated from decaying wood, soil, olive crushing by-products and their compost. One hundred fifty-five isolates were submitted to a selective screening, which served to distinguish 83% of lignocellulolytic isolates. Then, a collection of 56 fungi was subjected to morphological and molecular identification with the ITS5 and ITS4 primers. This approach showed that 45% of the fungal population belonged to the genus Penicillium, followed by Aspergillus 14%, and Fusarium 11%. Alternaria, Trichoderma, Paecilomyces, Cladosporium, Trichocladium, Circinella, and Doratomyces genera are founded with a minority occurrence. Finally, validation of the enzymatic profile was done for 20 isolates, by testing their enzymatic performance on a liquid medium in the presence of cellulose, lignin, and olive pomace. The maximum protein production of 788 µg ml -1 was reached by an Alternaria strain, which produced also 10.6 IU ml -1 of endoglucanase. Thus, a β-glucosidase activity of 5.1 IU ml -1 was obtained by a Penicillium strain isolated from decaying wood. Regarding ligninolytic activities, olive pomace was the most suitable substrate to detect these activities. Decaying wood strains presented the most remarkable results with 1.1 IU ml -1 , 0.7 IU ml -1 et 0.3 IU ml -1 for laccase, LiP and MnP, respectively. Statistical optimization of aeration conditions viz. aerobic, microaerobic and anaerobic, was performed using response surface methodology (RSM) utilizing soybean meal as medium to enhance the production of laccase from Rheinheimera sp. Maximum laccase yield (18.48 × 10 5  U/L) was obtained under microaerobic (static) conditions sustained for 12 h in tandem with 26 h aerobically (150 rpm) grown culture, which was 17.03-fold higher than laccase production in the starting M162 medium under aerobic conditions (150 rpm). The reduction in incubation time from 72 to 38 h and utilization of cost-effective soybean meal as medium, which is easily available from local market, have provided a promising, eco-friendly method of laccase enzyme production. Enhanced expression of laccase gene under microaerobic conditions corresponded to the increased expression of fnr (fumarate nitrate reductase) gene, the oxygen sensing global regulator. Contamination of the environment with heavy metals (HMs) has led to huge global environmental issues. Industrialization activities such as mining, manufacturing, and construction generate massive amounts of toxic waste, posing environmental risks. HMs soil pollution causes a variety of environmental issues and has a detrimental effect on both animals and plants. To remove HMs from the soil, traditional physico-chemical techniques such as immobilization, electro-remediation, stabilization, and chemical reduction are used. Moreover, the high energy, trained manpower, and hazardous chemicals required by these methods make them expensive and non-environmentally friendly. Bioremediation process, which involves microorganism-based and microorganism-associated-plant-based approaches, is an ecologically sound and cost-effective strategy for restoring HMs polluted soil. Microbes adjust their physiology to these conditions to live, which can involve significant variations in the expression of the genes. A set of genes are activated in response to toxic metals in microbes. They can also adapt by modifying their shape, fruiting bodies creating biofilms, filaments, or chemotactically migrating away from stress chemicals. Microbes including Bacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp., and Aspergillus sp. has been found to have high metals remediation and tolerance capacity of up to 98% whether isolated or in combination with plants like Helianthus annuus, Trifolium repens, and Vallisneria denseserrulata. Several of the regulatory systems that have been discovered are unique, but there is also a lot of "cross-talk" among networks. The purpose of this study is to identify microbial communities in pulp and paper industry sludge and their metagenomic profiling on the basis of; phylum, class, order, family, genus and species level. Results revealed that the dominant phyla in 16S rRNA Illumina Miseq analysis inside sludge were Anaerolinea, Pseudomonas, Clostridia, Bacteriodia, Gammaproteobacteria, Spirochetia, Deltaproteobacteria, Spirochaetaceae, Prolixibacteraceae and some unknown microbial strains are also dominant. Metagenomics is a molecular biology-based technology that uses bioinformatics to evaluate huge gene sequences extracted from environmental samples to assess the composition and function of microbiota. The results of metabarcoding of the V3-V4 16S rRNA regions acquired from paired-end Illumina MiSeq sequencing were used to analyze bacterial communities and structure. The present work demonstrates the potential approach to sludge treatment in the open environment via the naturally adapted microorganism, which could be an essential addition to the disposal site. In summary, these investigations indicate that the indigenous microbial community is an acceptable bioresource for remediation or detoxification following secondary treatment. The aims of this study were (i) to compare PCP removal (100 mg L -1 ) by two bacterial consortia B 1 and B 2 in sterile wastewater (STWW) and liquid mineral medium (MSM), (ii) PCP effect in biofilm formation and antimicrobial susceptibility. PCP removal was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) during 168 h at 30 °C. Biofilm formation was assessed with two approaches: Congo Red Agar and Microtiter-plate. Antimicrobial susceptibility was determined by the agar disc diffusion technique. The results showed that the PCP removal for consortium B 1 and B 2 after 168 h was 70 and 97.5% in STWW; 62.2 and 85.5% in MSM, respectively. In addition, PCP addition showed an increase in biofilm development especially for B 2 consortium around 3.5 nm in 100 mg L -1 PCP. Aeromonas hydrophila is one of the major freshwater fish pathogens. In the current study, a cocktail of D6 and CF7 phages was given orally to Labeo rohita to assess phage survival in fish organs as well as to determine the therapeutic efficacy of phage treatment against fish mortality caused by A. hydrophila. In the phage-coated feed, prepared by simple spraying method, phage counts were quite stable for up to 2 months with a decline of ≤ 0.23 log 10 and ≤ 1.66 log 10 PFU/g feed during 4 o C and room temperature storage. Throughout the experimental period of 7 days, both phages could be detected in the gut of fish fed with phage-coated feed. Besides, both CF7 and D6 phages were also detected in fish kidneys indicating the ability of both the phage to cross the intestinal barrier. During challenge studies with LD 50 dose of A. hydrophila, phage cocktail doses of 1 × 10 6 - 1 × 10 8 PFU/g feed prevented the mortality in L. rohita with relative percentage survival (RPS) of 8.7-65.2. When challenged with LD 90 dose of A. hydrophila, an RPS value of 28.6 was obtained at a phage cocktail dose of 1 × 10 8 PFU/g feed. The RPS data showed that orally-fed phage cocktail protected the fish against the mortality caused by A. hydrophila in a dose-dependent manner. A Gram-positive, aerobic, non-motile, irregular short rod, nonspore-forming actinobacterial strain, designated GX14115 T , was isolated from fish intestine in Beihai City, Guangxi, China and subjected to a taxonomic polyphasic investigation. Colonies were yellow‒green, circular, smooth, central bulge, convex, opaque and 2.0-3.0 mm in diameter after growth on 2216E medium at 30 °C for 72 h. Growth occurred at 4-45 °C (optimum 30 °C), at pH 4.5-10.0 (optimum pH 7.5) and in the presence of 0-12% NaCl (w/v) (optimum 3.5%). Chemotaxonomic analysis showed that the main menaquinone of strain GX14115 T was MK-7. The major cellular fatty acids were anteiso-C 15:0 (44.8%), anteiso-C 17:0 (20.5%), and iso-C 15:0 (16%). The whole-cell sugars were galactose and xylose. The peptidoglycan type was L-Lys-Gly-D-Asp, and the polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), one unknown phospholipid (UP), and one unknown glycolipid (UG). The DNA G + C content of the type of strain was 69.5 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain GX14115 T is affiliated with the genus Nesterenkonia and is closely related to Nesterenkonia sandarakina YIM 70009 T (96.5%) and Nesterenkonia lutea YIM 70081 T (96.8%). The calculated results indicated that the average nucleotide identity (ANI) values of GX14115 T were 74.49-74.78%, to the two aforementioned type strains, and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) values were 20.1-20.7%. Strain GX14115 T was proposed as a novel species of the genus Nesterenkonia by the physiological, chemotaxonomic, and phylogenetic data, for whose the name is Nesterenkonia marinintestina sp. nov. This study aims to evaluate the effect of three surfactants on the removal of PCP (800 mg L -1 ) from Secondary Treated Wastewater (STWW) by Pseudomonas putida AJ 785569. The effect of surfactants [sodium lauryl sulfate (SDS) as anionic, Tween 80 (TW80) as non-anionic and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as cationic] is tested about the three following aspects: (1) bacterial growth, (2) bacterial biofilm formation or development and (3) PCP rate removal. The results showed that strain P. putida AJ 785569 could adsorb around 30 mg L -1 and remove 600 mg L -1 of PCP within 168 h of incubation. The SDS developed the growth of bacteria and the removal of PCP. This PCP removal in mineral salt medium (MSM) is around 760 mg L -1 (95% degradation) higher than the ones registered with CTAB and TW80 with a value 506.75 (63% degradation) and 364.1 mg L -1 (45% degradation), respectively. The obtained results of chloride concentration showed an important relation with PCP removal during incubation with an important value. Diagnosis of bacterial infections (BI) is becoming an increasingly difficult task in clinical practice due to their high prevalence and frequency, as well as the growth of antibiotic resistance worldwide. World Health Organization (WHO) reported antibiotic resistance is a major public health problem. BI becomes difficult or impossible to treat when the bacteria acquire immunity against antibiotics. Thus, there is a need for a quick and accurate technique to detect infection. Lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is an ideal technique for point-of-care testing of a disease or pathological changes inside the human body. In recent years, several LFIA based strips are being used for the detection of BI by targeting specific analytes which may range from the causative bacterium, whole-cell, DNA, or biomarker. Numerous nanoparticles like lipid-based nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, and inorganic nanoparticles such as quantum dots, magnetic, ceramic, and metallic nanoparticles (copper, silver gold, iron) are widely being used in the advanced treatment of BI. Out of these gold nanoparticle (AuNPs), is being used for detection BI more effectively than other nanoparticles due to their surface functionalization, extraordinary chemical stability, biorecognition, and signal amplification properties and help to improve in conjugation with capture antibodies, and act as a color marker with unique optical properties on LFIA strips. Antimicrobial agents are used to treat microbial ailments, but increased use of antibiotics and exposure to infections in healthcare facilities and hospitals as well as the excessive and inappropriate use of antibiotics at the society level lead to the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is considered a public health concern and has rendered the treatment of different infections more challenging. The bacterial strains develop resistance against antimicrobial agents by limiting intracellular drug accumulation (increasing efflux or decreasing influx of antibiotics), modification and inactivation of drugs and its targets, enzymatic inhibition, and biofilm formation. However, the driving factors of AMR include the sociocultural and economic circumstances of a country, the use of falsified and substandard medicines, the use of antibiotics in farm animals, and food processing technologies. These factors make AMR one of the major menaces faced by mankind. In order to promote reciprocal learning, this article summarizes the current AMR situation in Pakistan and how it interacts with the health issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic aids in illuminating the possible long-term impacts of AMR, which are less immediate but not less severe since their measures and effects are equivalent. Impact on other sectors, including the health industry, the economy, and trade are also discussed. Microbial biodegradation serves as an effective approach to treat oil pollution. However, the application of such methods for the degrading long-chain alkanes still encounters significant challenges. Comparative proteomics has extensively studied the intracellular proteins of bacteria that degrade short- and medium-chain alkanes, but the role and mechanism of extracellular proteins in many microorganism remain unclear. To enhance our understanding of the roles of extracellular proteins in the adaptation to long-chain alkanes, a label-free LC-MS/MS strategy was applied for the relative quantification of extracellular proteins of Pseudomonas aeruginosa SJTD-1-M (ProteomeXchange identifier PXD014638). 444 alkane-sentitive proteins were acquired and their cell localization analysis was performed using the Pseudomonas Genome Database. Among them, 111 proteins were found to be located in extracellular or Outer Membrane Vesicles (OMVs). The alkane-induced abundance of 11 extracellular or OMV target proteins was confirmed by parallel reaction monitoring (PRM). Furthermore, we observed that the expression levels of three proteins (Pra, PA2815, and FliC) were associated with the carbon chain length of the added alkane in the culture medium. The roles of these proteins in cell mobility, alkane emulsification, assimilation, and degradation were further discussed. OMVs were found to contain a number of enzymes involved in alkane metabolism, fatty acid beta-oxidation, and the TCA cycle, suggesting their potential as sites for facilitated alkane degradation. We examined literature on Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) subsequent to its genome release, spanning years 1999-2020. We employed scientometric mapping, entity mining, visualization techniques, and PubMed and PubTator databases. Most popular keywords, most active research groups, and growth in quantity of publications were determined. By gathering annotations from the PubTator, we determined direction of research in the areas of drug hypersensitivity, drug resistance (AMR), and drug-related side effects. Additionally, we examined the patterns in research on Mtb metabolism and various forms of tuberculosis, including skin, brain, pulmonary, extrapulmonary, and latent tuberculosis. We discovered that 2011 had the highest annual growth rate of publications, at 19.94%. The USA leads the world in publications with 18,038, followed by China with 14,441, and India with 12,158 publications. Studies on isoniazid and rifampicin resistance showed an enormous increase. Non-tuberculous mycobacteria also been the subject of more research in effort to better understand Mtb physiology and as model organisms. Researchers also looked at co-infections like leprosy, hepatitis, plasmodium, HIV, and other opportunistic infections. Host perspectives like immune response, hypoxia, and reactive oxygen species, as well as comorbidities like arthritis, cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease etc. were also looked at. Symptomatic aspects like fever, coughing, and weight loss were also investigated. Vitamin D has gained popularity as a supplement during illness recovery, however, the interest of researchers declined off late. We delineated dominant researchers, journals, institutions, and leading nations globally, which is crucial for aligning ongoing and evolving landscape of TB research efforts. Endophytic fungi are known for their unprecedented ability to produce novel lead compounds of clinical and pharmaceutical importance. This review focuses on the unexplored fungal diversity associated with mangroves, emphasizing their biodiversity, distribution, and methodological approaches targeting isolation, and identification. Also highlights the bioactive compounds reported from the mangrove fungal endophytes. The compounds are categorized according to their reported biological activities including antimicrobial, antioxidant and cytotoxic property. In addition, protein kinase, α-glucosidase, acetylcholinesterase, tyrosinase inhibition, antiangiogenic, DNA-binding affinity, and calcium/potassium channel blocking activity are also reported. Exploration of these endophytes as a source of pharmacologically important compounds will be highly promising in the wake of emerging antibiotic resistance among pathogens. Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp), characterized by high virulence and epidemic potential, has become a global public health challenge. Therefore, improving the identification of hvKp and enabling earlier and faster detection in the community to support subsequent effective treatment and prevention of hvKp are an urgent issue. To address these issues, a number of assays have emerged, such as String test, Galleria mellonella infection test, PCR, isothermal exponential amplification, and so on. In this paper, we have collected articles on the detection methods of hvKp and conducted a retrospective review based on two aspects: traditional detection technology and biomarker-based detection technology. We summarize the advantages and limitations of these detection methods and discuss the challenges as well as future directions, hoping to provide new insights and references for the rapid detection of hvKp in the future. The aim of this study is to focus on the research papers related to Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae involving the period from 2012 to 2022. We conducted searches using the keywords "Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae, biomarkers, detection techniques" on ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. The worldwide availability of lignocellulosic wastes represents a serious environmental challenge with potential opportunities. Xylanases are crucial in lignocellulosic bio-hydrolysis, but the low enzyme productivity and stability are still challenges. In the current study, Bacillus subtilis (coded ARSE2) revealed potent xylanase activity among other local isolates. The enzyme production optimization revealed that maximum enzyme production (490.58 U/mL) was achieved with 1% xylan, 1.4% peptone, and 5% NaCl at 30 °C and pH 9. Furthermore, several lignocellulosic wastes were exploited for sustainable xylanase production, where sugarcane bagasse (16%) under solid-state fermentation and woody sawdust (2%) under submerged fermentation supported the maximum enzyme titer of about 472.03 and 485.7 U/mL, respectively. The partially purified enzyme revealed two protein bands at 42 and 30 kDa. The partially purified enzyme revealed remarkable enzyme activity and stability at 50-60 °C and pH 8-9. The enzyme also revealed significant stability toward tween-80, urea, DTT, and EDTA with V max and K m values of 1481.5 U/mL and 0.187 mM, respectively. Additionally, the purified xylanase was applied for xylooligosaccharides production, which revealed significant antimicrobial activity toward Staphylococcus aureus with lower activity against Escherichia coli. Hence, the locally isolated Bacillus subtilis ARSE2 could fulfill the xylanase production requirements in terms of economic production at a high titer with promising enzyme characteristics. An obligately anaerobic bacterium XHS1971 T , capable of degrading cellulose and xylan, was isolated from a sediment sample of Aravali hot spring, Ratnagiri, India. Cells of strain XHS1971 T were Gram-stain-negative, spore-forming, motile, long-rods. Growth was observed at temperatures 30-50 °C (optimum 40-45 °C), pH 5.0-10.0 (optimum pH 8.0) and NaCl concentrations 0-0.5% (optimum 0%). Generation time of strain XHS1971 T was 5 h under optimised growth conditions. Strain XHS1971 T showed the ability to metabolise different complex and simple sugars constituting lignocellulosic biomass. Glucose was fermented majorly into hydrogen, formic acid, acetic acid, and ethanol, whereas carbon dioxide, butyric acid, lactic acid and succinic acid were produced in traces. 16S rRNA gene analysis of strain XHS1971 T revealed < 94.5% homology with Cellulosilyticum lentocellum DSM5427 T followed by Cellulosilyticum ruminicola JCM14822 T , identifying strain as a distinct member of family Lachnospiraceae. The major cellular fatty acids (> 5%) were C 14:0 , C 16:0 , C 18:0 , and C 16:1 ω7c. The genome size of the strain was 3.74 Mb with 35.3 mol% G + C content, and genes were annotated to carbohydrate metabolism, including genes involved in the degradation of cellulose and xylan and the production of hydrogen, ethanol and acetate. The uniqueness of strain was further validated by digital DNA-DNA hybridisation (dDDH), Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI), and Average Amino Acid Identity (AAI) values of 22%, 80%, and 63%, respectively, with nearest phylogenetic affiliates. Industrial tobacco waste was mainly treated via a reconstituted tobacco process using the paper-making method, which involves aqueous concentrated tobacco waste extract (cTWE) fermentation (aging). The fermentation was done to improve the quality of reconstituted tobacco. However, cTWE is a multi-stress environment that is characterized by low pH (about 4), as well as high sugar (above 150 g/L) and nicotine (above 15 g/L) content. In this study, a specific selection strategy was used to successfully isolate multi-stress-resistant bacterial or fungal strains, that exhibited positive effects on cTWE fermentation, thereby improving the quality of final products. A potential strain Zygosaccharomyces parabailii MC-5K3 was used for the bioaugmentation of cTWE fermentation and it significantly influenced the microbial diversity of the fermented cTWE. Zygosaccharomyces was observed to be the only dominant fungal genus instead of some pathogenic bacterial genera, with an abundance of over 95% after four days, and still more than 80% after a week. Meanwhile, metabolomics profiling showed significant concentration decrease with regard to some flavor-improving relative metabolites, such as 3-hydroxybenzoic acid (log2FC = - 5.25) and sorbitol (log2FC = - 5.54). This finding is extrapolated to be the key influence factor on the quality of the fermented cTWE. Bioplastics replace synthetic plastics of petrochemical origin, which contributes challenge to both polymer quality and economics. Novel polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA)-composite materials, with desirable product quality, could be developed, thus targeting the global plastics market, in the coming years. It is possible that PHA can be a greener substitute for their petroleum-based competitors since they are simply decomposed, which may lessen the pressure on municipal and industrial waste management systems. PHA production has proven to be the bottleneck in industrial application and commercialization because of the high price of carbon substrates and downstream processes required to achieve reliability. Bacterial PHA production by these municipal and industrial wastes, which act as a cheap, renewable carbon substrate, eliminates waste management hassles and acts as an efficient substitute for synthetic plastics. In the present review, challenges and opportunities related to the commercialization of polyhydroxyalkanoates are discussed and presented. Moreover, it discusses critical steps of their production process, feedstock evaluation, optimization strategies, and downstream processes. Malachite green dye belongs to the triphenylmethane group and is a common environmental pollutant that threatens non-target organisms. We report the potential of the early colonizing marine bacterium Pseudomonas sp. ESPS40 isolated from the Arabian Sea, India, to decolorize malachite green (MG). The bacterium ESPS40 exhibited a higher ability for MG degradation (86-88%) at varying NaCl concentrations (1-3%). The highest MG degradation (~ 88%) was observed at 1% NaCl. The bacterial strain ESPS40 showed degradation up to 800 mg L -1 MG. Further, enzyme activities such as tyrosinase (63.48-526.52 U L -1 ) and laccase (3.62-28.20 U L -1 ) were also analyzed with varying concentrations (100 mg L -1 -1000 mg L -1 ) of MG during the degradation process. The dye degradation was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The outcome of the present study demonstrated Pseudomonas sp. ESPS40 as a potential strain for the efficient degradation of MG at higher concentrations. Thus, Pseudomonas sp. Rice straw is a suitable alternative to a cheaper carbohydrate source for the production of ethanol. For pretreatment efficiency, different sodium hydroxide concentrations (0.5-2.5% w/v) were tested. When compared to other concentrations, rice straw processed with 2% NaOH (w/v) yielded more sugar (8.17 ± 0.01 mg/ml). An alkali treatment induces effective delignification and swelling of biomass. The pretreatment of rice straw with 2% sodium hydroxide (w/v) is able to achieve 55.34% delignification with 53.30% cellulose enrichment. The current study shows the effectiveness of crude cellulolytic preparation from Aspergillus niger resulting in 80.51 ± 0.4% cellulose hydrolysis. Rice straw hydrolysate was fermented using ethanologenic Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) and Zymomonas mobilis (bacteria). Overall, superior efficiency of sugar conversion to ethanol 70.34 ± 0.3% was obtained with the yeast compared to bacterial strain 39.18 ± 0.5%. Two pigment producing fungi, Talaromyces atroroseus and Penicillium choerospondiatis, were isolated and identified from infected fruits of Phyllanthus emblica L. based on amplification and sequencing of internal transcribed spacer region and beta-tubulin gene. This is the first occurrence report of these two fungi from fruits of P. emblica. Culture extract containing metabolites of T. atroroseus and P. choerospondiatis contained phenolics of 26.35 mg and 30.89 mg GAE/g dry extract respectively; whereas no significant amount of flavonoids and tannins were detected. P. choerospondiatis metabolites extract showed higher DPPH and ABTS activity with IC 50 values of 21.94 mg/ml and 27.03 mg/ml respectively than T. atroroseus. LC-HRMS analysis of metabolites extract of T. atroroseus revealed presence of trimethyl-isopropyl-butanamide, perlolyrine, N-hexadecanoylpyrrolidine etc. whereas P. choerospondiatis displayed presence of tangeraxanthin, ugaxanthone, daphniphylline, etc. Therefore, fungal metabolites are rich natural sources of diversified compounds that can be utilized in dyeing industries, cosmetics and novel drug development., (© 2023. Heavy metal pollution is a global problem that affects both the environment and human health. Microorganisms play an important role in remediation. Most studies on the use of microorganisms for heavy metal remediation focus on single heavy metals. In this study, a strain of Penicillium amphipolaria, XK11 with high resistance to both antimony (Sb III) and cadmium (Cd II) was screened from the mineral slag. The strain also had a high phosphate solubilization capacity. The single-factor adsorption experiment results showed that the initial pH (pH 0 ), adsorption time (T), and initial solution concentration (C 0 ) all affected the adsorption of Sb and Cd by XK11. When the initial pH 0 (Cd = 6, Sb = 4) and adsorption time (T = 7 d) were constant, XK11 achieved the maximum removal rate of Cd (45.6%) and Sb (34.6%). Infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance have become one of the extreme health threats of this century. Overuse of antibiotics leads to pollution. To overcome this threat, the current strategy is to develop a substitute for these antibiotics that are extracted from natural sources. In this study, nanocellulose (NC) was isolated from an agricultural waste (wheat straw) and then oxidized with the help of sodium periodate to obtain dialdehyde nanocellulose (DA-NC). Then, chitosan (Ch) and DA-NC are both crosslinked with each other in different weight ratios, to obtain NC/Ch composite hydrogels. The resulted hydrogel is also characterized to confirm its structure, morphology and composition. The hydrogel was also tested for antimicrobial activities against bacteria, algae as well as fungal species to check its applicability for biomedical applications. The six microbes used for the ananlysis are Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger and Fusarium solani. The antimicrobial assessment of the hydrogel is evaluated via inhibition zone and optical density analysis. The resulted nanocellulose/chitosan (NC/Ch) hydrogel shows the uniform distribution of nanocellulose in the composite and the synergistic effect of their properties. The Kyzyl-Kum Desert extends over an area of 300,000 Km 2 , in the region bordering Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and is mainly covered by sand dunes. The Kyzyl-Kum desert is also known for its large deposits of minerals of economic interests, the exploitation of which is affecting the local ecosystem and increasing the desertification. We examined the bacterial biodiversity of surface sand samples from several sites from the Kyzyl-Kum desert using pyrosequencing of PCR amplified bacterial 16S rRNA genes from total extracted soil DNA. We also examined several physicochemical parameters of the sand samples to investigate any possible correlations between bacterial community structure and environmental drivers. The predominant bacterial phyla present in the samples were found to belong to members of the Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes. The most abundant genera in our samples were found to belong to the Arthrobacter, Adhaeribacter and Roseomonas genera. We found that the relative abundance of members belonging to the Actinobacteria phylum, commonly found in desertic areas, increase in abundance in sites with higher content of organic matter and sulfur, whereas members of the Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes phyla seems to diminish in abundance in coarse silt and fine-grained soils and those rich in magnesium, suggesting that those parameters might influence the bacterial community composition in this desertic area. Dark septate endophytes (DSE) are pigmented fungi that colonize plant roots. They represent a morpho-functional status composed of many species belonging to the phylum Ascomycota, distributed in different orders. The order Chaetothyriales has representatives with diverse lifestyles, among which the rock-inhabiting one has been proposed to be the ancestral ecological character state. However, all taxa have the phenotypic characteristic of being highly melanized. This trait has been considered relevant in most Chaetothyriales because it allows them to tolerate extreme or toxic environmental conditions. In the present study, aiming to reconstruct the evolutionary history of this order, we analyzed the contribution of the DSE habit to the diversification of the Chaetothyriales. We also report the distribution of the DSE habit among the main families and/or clades within the order. Our results suggest that DSE had a key position in the evolution of the order Chaetothyriales, both as an ancestral ecological character and as a character from which other specialized forms such as Domatium probably derived., (© 2023. To obtain a kind of microbial pigment with high yield and variety coloration by regulating the pigment synthesis pathway in this experiment, Lasiodiplodia theobromae was used to induce pigment secretion by prolific inducing factors (tyrosinase, Cu 2+ , stilbene glycoside) and pleochromatic inducing factors (L-tyrosine, L-cysteine, tricyclazole). The results showed that through single factor and compound culture, the most reasonable inducing formula was 150 ku/L tyrosinase, while tricyclazole at 10 mg/L for 30 days had a maximum color difference of 42.92 NBS with a reddish-brown color in 10 days. The melanin content increased gradually with the extension of culture time, and the pleochromatic inducing group was up to 3.47 mg/mL, higher than that of the prolific inducing group. However, the poor solubility of purified melanin with a diameter of 100-200 nm was observed in conventional solvents. Water-saving is one of the most important problems in agricultural development, especially in arid and semi-arid areas. The effects of polyaspartic acid (PASP) on soil water storage, soil microbial community, soil physiochemical properties, cotton yield and fiber quality were studied to find water-saving material utilized in cotton field. The experiment was divided into two parts, the first part concerned the direct application of three different amounts of PASP under field conditions. In the second part, PASP was mixed with soil in different proportions and the mixtures were put into bottles, which were then buried in the cotton field. The application of PASP improved the water-holding capacity and thus increased water content available to the cotton root system in the cotton field for a long time, and significantly (p < 0.05) increased the content of soil organic matter, available P and ammonium-N. Relative abundances of Methylophaga, Sphingomonas, Cupriavidus, Pseudeurotium, Fusarium and Nectria were significantly affected by applying PASP. Compared to the control group, 15, 75 and 150 kg ha -1 of PASP increased seed cotton yield by 3.94, 8.31 and 7.71%, respectively. The application of PASP also increased the reflectance degree, Micronaire and short fiber index of cotton. For effective utilization of corncob residue to realize green circular production, using composting to obtain a high-quality and low-cost biomass fertilizer has become a very important transformation avenue. In this paper, two novel phosphorus/potassium-degradation bacterial strains were isolated from tobacco straw and identified as Bacillus aerophilus SD-1/Bacillus altitudinis SD-3 (abbreviated as SD-1/SD-3). These identified two novel bacteria SD-1/SD-3 show that the soluble phosphorus content of SD-1/SD-3 reached 360.89 mg L -1 /403.56 mg L -1 in the shake flask test, and the mass concentration of soluble potassium is 136.56 mg L -1 /139.89 mg L -1 . In addition, the Laccase (Lac), Lignin peroxidase (LiP), and Manganese peroxidase (MnP) activities of SD-1 and SD-3 are 54.45 U L -1 /394.84 U L -1 /222.79 U L -1 and 46.27 U L -1 /395.26 U L -1 /203.98 U L -1 respectively, with the carboxy-methyl cellulase (CMCase) of 72.07 U mL -1 and 52.69 U mL -1 . Meanwhile, the effects of three different combinations of cultures, i.e., no inoculation (K1), inoculation of SD-1/SD-3 on day 21 (K2) and on day 0 (G) are investigated to understand the influence on the degradation degree of corncob residue compost. The results of K2 compost treatment showed that the effective P/K content increased nearly 3.1/2.4 times, the degradation of cellulose/lignin was 49.1/68.0%, and the germination rate was 110.23%, which were higher than other experiment groups K1/G. Protecting plants from pathogens using synthetic nanofungicides is not very effective, because it is harmful to the environment. However, it is synthetic fungicides that farmers are familiar with and commonly use. In this modern era, nanotechnology offers a smart solution to environmental issues at the nanoscale level. It is an emergent field and nanoparticles can be synthesized through various methods. Nanofungicides are efficient due to their solubility and permeability, low dose-dependent toxicity, low dose, enhanced bioavailability, targeted delivery, enhanced bioavailability, and controlled release. There are many metallic compounds, such as Cu, Zn, Ag, and TiO 2 available which are used as nanofungicides. There is a contrary relationship between the size of the nanoparticles and their efficacy and antifungal potential. Aspergillus strains are known to produce multiple enzymes of industrial importance. To screen Aspergillus isolates and select a strain with the ability to produce multiple enzymes and discriminate it from non-enzymatic strains, a rapid and accurate approach is required. With this background, a DNA fingerprinting-based study was conducted to develop a simple but accurate molecular detection method with the potential to discriminate multienzyme-producing Aspergillus strains from non-enzymatic strains, irrespective of species. To achieve this, Enterobacterial Repetitive Intergenic Consensus (ERIC) PCR was employed to derive group-specific Sequence Characterized Amplified Region (SCAR) markers (i.e., markers corresponding to PCR amplicons of known DNA sequence). To this end, both group-specific (multienzyme-producing and non-enzymatic Aspergillus group) SCAR markers were sought by comparing the ERIC fingerprint profiles and used to develop primers for use in specific and differential identification of multienzyme-producing Aspergillus isolates. As an outcome, the two SCAR-PCR formats were developed. One format is for specific identification of multienzyme-producing Aspergillus strains (SCAR-PCR1), and the other for identifying non-enzymatic Aspergillus strains (SCAR-PCR2). Both SCAR-PCRs were able to discriminate between these two contrasting groups. These formats are simple but accurate and rapid compared to the time-consuming and laborious conventional methods. Microbial communities for bioconversion of lignocellulose have received widespread attention. Many cellulose-degrading microbial communities have been enriched from different sources. Combining two microbial communities with acidic and basic properties (acid-base combination) is a technique used alongside restricted enrichment culturing. Understanding how changes to microbial communities result in community's structure and function is important for mechanistic reconstruction of microbiomes. In this study, we analyzed changes in microbial community structure to elucidate determination of the mechanisms of acid-base combination. We found that after restricted enrichment, the bacteria that were primarily retaining included not only those that decompose and utilize lignocellulose, such as Clostridium and Pseudomonas, but also synergistic microbiota such as Alkalobacillaceae. When the proportion of these two types of bacteria was unbalanced, the degradative ability of the microbial community was low, or pH changes of it did not compound regular changes, which may lead to the failure of restricted enrichment. Microbial communities were re-constituted by acid-base combination, whereby the degrading and synergistic strains were adjusted to a more appropriate proportion. The acid-base combination fixed the instability of microbial communities caused by the randomness of restrictive screening enrichment; it provided an effective method for obtaining high-quality lignocellulose-degrading microbial community., (© 2022. Facing the critical issue of high production costs for cellulase, numerous studies have focused on improving the efficiency of cellulase production by potential cellulolytic microorganisms using agricultural wastes as substrates, extremophilic cellulases, in particular, are crucial in the biorefinery process because they can maintain activity under harsh environmental conditions. This study aims to investigate the ability of a potential carboxymethylcellulose-hydrolyzing bacterial strain H1, isolated from an Algerian saline soil and identified as Bacillus velezensis, to use untreated olive mill wastes as a substrate for the production of an endo-1,4-β-glucanase. The enzyme was purified 44.9 fold using only two steps: ultrafiltration concentration and ion exchange chromatography, with final recovery of 80%. Its molecular mass was estimated to be 26 kDa by SDS-PAGE. Enzyme identification by LC-MS analysis showed 40% identity with an endo-1,3-1,4-β-glucanase of GH-16 family. The highest enzymatic activity was significantly measured on barley β-glucan (604.5 U/mL) followed by lichenan and carboxymethylcellulose as substrates, confirming that the studied enzyme is an endo-1,4-β-glucanase. Optimal enzymatic activity was at pH 6.0-6.5 and at 60-65 °C. It was fairly thermotolerant, retaining 76.9% of the activity at 70 °C, and halotolerant, retaining 70% of its activity in the presence of 4 M NaCl. The enzyme had a V max of 625 U/min/mL and a high affinity with barley β-glucan resulting a K m of 0.69 mg/mL. It also showed a significant ability to release cello-oligosaccharides. A bacterial strain, Gram-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, motile, designated YIM B00624 T which was isolated from a Hamazui hot spring in Tengchong, Yunnan province, south-west China. The strain grew well on International Streptomyces Project (ISP) 2 medium and colonies were creamy yellow, flat and circular. The results of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity analysis showed that strain YIM B00624 T was closely related to the type strain of Paenibacillus filicis S4 T (95.9%). The main menaquinone of strain YIM B00624 T was menaquinone-7 (MK-7) and major fatty acids were anteiso-C 15:0 , anteiso-C 17:0 and C 16:0 . The isolate contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid and the major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine and four unidentified glycolipids. The DNA G+C content of strain YIM B00624 T was 53.4 mol%. The growing population increases the need to develop advanced biological methods for utilizing renewable and sustainable resources to produce environmentally friendly biofuels. Currently, energy resources are limited for global demand and are constantly depleting and creating environmental problems. Some higher chain alcohols, like butanol and ethanol, processing similar properties to gasoline, can be alternate sources of biofuel. However, the industrial production of these alcohols remains challenging because they cannot be efficiently produced by microbes naturally. Therefore, butanol is the most interesting biofuel candidate with a higher octane number produced naturally by microbes through Acetone-Butanol-Ethanol fermentation. Feedstock selection as the substrate is the most crucial step in biobutanol production. Lignocellulosic biomass has been widely used to produce cellulosic biobutanol using agricultural wastes and residue. Specific necessary pretreatments, fermentation strategies, bioreactor designing and kinetics, and modeling can also enhance the efficient production of biobutanol. The recent genetic engineering approaches of gene knock in, knock out, and overexpression to manipulate pathways can increase the production of biobutanol in a user friendly host organism. So far various genetic manipulation techniques like antisense RNA, TargeTron Technology and CRISPR have been used to target Clostridium acetobutylicum for biobutanol production. In this study, the acute toxicity effects of a fluorescent xanthene dye, Rhodamine B (RhB), widely used in textile, paper, and leather industries was investigated on a freshwater microalgae Chlorella vulgaris. The acute toxicity of RhB on C. vulgaris was determined by examining the growth, cell morphology, pigment production, protein content, and the activities of oxidative stress enzymes. Based on the results of the toxicity study of 24-96 h, the median inhibitory concentration (IC 50 ) values ranged from 69.94 to 31.29 mg L -1 . The growth of C. vulgaris was conspicuously inhibited by RhB exposure, and the cell surfaces appeared to be seriously shrunk in SEM analysis. The growth of C. vulgaris was hindered after exposure to graded concentrations (10-50 mg L -1 ) of RhB. A significant reduction in growth rate, pigment synthesis (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoid), and protein content was recorded in a dose-dependent manner. After 96 h exposure of C. vulgaris to 50 mg L -1 RhB, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids, and protein contents were reduced by 71.59, 74.90, 65.84, and 74.20%, respectively. The activities of the antioxidant enzymes peroxidase (POD), and catalase (CAT) also increased markedly in the presence of RhB. A notable effect was observed on oxidative enzymes catalase and peroxidase, indicating that oxidative stress may be the primary factor in the inhibition of growth and pigment synthesis. Consequently, the experimental acute toxicity data were compared to the QSAR prediction made by the ECOSAR programme. Results showed that the experimental acute toxicity values were 67.74-fold lower than the ECOSAR predicted values. Spontaneous production of E colicins is known to occur in only a small fraction of colicinogenic population. The current study aimed to determine if the same holds true for the production of colicin E9 in real time, by investigating the induction dynamics of the promoter of the ColE9 operon which results in the expression of the ColE9 activity and functional genes. A novel fluorescent reporter was constructed which carries the fusion of the ColE9 promoter and the gfpmut2 gene in a low copy number plasmid that was compatible with the native ColE9-J plasmid. Using the fluorescent reporter construct in the non colicinogenic E. coli cells, the induction of the ColE9 promoter was investigated. The current study demonstrates that the spontaneous induction of the ColE9 promoter occurs in a heterogenous manner and this heterogeneity is maintained in a bacterial population for several generations suggesting that it is unlikely due to any irreversible mutation in the bacterial culture. Furthermore, the same investigations were repeated using the colicin E9 producing E. coli cells. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that 7.1 ± 0.68% of the colicin E9 producing E. coli cells expressed GFP albeit only 2.45 ± 0.30% was observed from non colicinogenic E. coli cells. The considerable increase in the number of the fluorescent cells was likely due to the DNase activity of colicin E9 produced by their clonemates, resulting the auto-induction, which can be abolished with the inactivation of the DNase activity of the colicin E9., (© 2022. This work aims at exploring an antagonistic actinobacterial strain isolated from the roots of Ziziphus lotus in bioformulation processes and the biocontrol of Rhizoctonia solani damping-off of tomato seedlings. The strain Streptomyces caeruleatus ZL-2 was investigated for the principal in vitro biocontrol mechanisms and then formulated in three different biofungicides: wettable talcum powder (WTP), sodium alginate propagules (SAP) and clay sodium alginate propagules (CAP). Compared to a marketed control products (Serenade® and Acil 060FS®), the formulated biofungicides were investigated against the R. solani damping-off of tomato cv. Aïcha seedlings. The strain ZL-2 produced chitinases, cellulases, β-1,3-glucanases, cyanhydric acid and siderophores. It also showed strong antagonistic effect on the mycelial growth of R. solani. Bioautographic and HPLC analysis revealed the production of a single or several co-migrating antifungal compounds. The biofungicide WTP presented an attractive biocontrol effect by significantly reducing the disease severity index (DSI) compared to untreated seeds. No significant differences were obtained compared to the chemical treatment with Acil 060FS®. The viability of spores and biocontrol efficacy of the WTP were confirmed after 1-year storage. Strain ZL-2 has never been reported in the bioformulation of active biofungicides against Rhizoctonia solani damping-off and this work opens up very attractive prospects in the fields of biocontrol and crop improvement., (© 2022. Methane is a greenhouse gas with disastrous consequences when released to intolerable levels. Ruminants produce methane during gut fermentation releasing it through belching and/or flatulence. To better understand the diversity of methanogens and functional enzymes associated with methane metabolism in dairy cows, 48 samples; 6 rumen fluid and 42 dung samples were collected from Kenyan and Tanzanian farms and were analyzed using shotgun metagenomic approach. Statistical analysis for species frequency, relative abundance, percentages, and P values were undertaken using MS Excel and IBM SPSS statistics 20. The results showed archaea from 5 phyla, 9 classes, 16 orders, 25 families, 59 genera, and 87 species. Gut sites significantly contributed to the presence and distribution of various methanogens (P < 0.01). The class Methanomicrobia was abundant in the rumen samples (~ 39%) and dung (~ 44%). The most abundant (~ 17%) methanogen species identified was Methanocorpusculum labreanum. However, some taxonomic class data were unclassified (~ 6% in the rumen and ~ 4% in the dung). Five functional enzymes: Glycine/Serine hydroxymethyltransferase, Formylmethanofuran-tetrahydromethanopterin N-formyltransferase, Formate dehydrogenase, anaerobic carbon monoxide dehydrogenase, and catalase-peroxidase associated with methane metabolism were identified. KEGG functional metabolic analysis for the enzymes identified during this study was significant (P < 0.05) for five metabolism processes. The methanogen species abundances from this study in numbers/kind can be utilized exclusively or jointly as indirect selection criteria for methane mitigation. When targeting functional genes of the microbes/animal for better performance, the concern not to affect the host animal's functionality should be undertaken. Cyanobacteria are a large group of ubiquitously found photosynthetic prokaryotes that are constantly exposed to different kinds of stressors of varying intensities and seem to overcome these in a precise and regulated manner. However, a high dose and duration of given stress induce cell death in a few select cyanobacteria, mainly to protect other cells (altruism). Despite the recent findings for the presence of biochemical and molecular hallmarks of cell death in cyanobacteria, it is yet a sketchily understood phenomenon. Regulation of metacaspase-like genes during Programmed Cell Death suggests it to be a genetically controlled mechanism like other eukaryotes. In addition to providing a comprehensive understanding of the current status of cell death in cyanobacteria, this review has used in silico analyses to directly compare the existence of some important molecular players operating in the intrinsic and extrinsic apoptotic pathways. Phylogenetic trees for all sequences indicate a cluster with a common ancestry and also a divergence from sequences of eukaryotic origin. To the best of our knowledge, such a comparison (except for orthocaspases) has not been attempted earlier and hopes to encourage workers in the field to investigate this altruistic phenomenon in detail., (© 2022. A genome led phylophasic study was designed to determine the taxonomic status of a strain, DSM 45956, recovered from a Saharan desert soil. A wealth of taxonomic data, including average nucleotide identity and DNA:DNA hybridization (DDH) values, showed that the isolate and the type strains of Actinopolyspora lacussalsi and Actinopolyspora righensis belong to the same species. Consequently, it is proposed that A. righensis is a heterotypic synonym of A. lacussalsi. Similarly, DDH values and associated phenotypic data show that A. lacussalsi contains two subspecies, A. lacussalsi subsp. lacussalsi and A. lacussalsi subsp. righensis which includes isolate DSM 45956., (© 2022. In this study, the Pb(II) biosorption performance of newly isolated fungal strain, used as a biosorbent, was analyzed. Fungal strain was identified as Backusella circina according to the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Following Pb(II) biosorption, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy was performed to compare pristine and Pb(II) biosorped biomass. The effects of pH, fungal biomass amount, temperature, interfering metal ions, initial concentration of Pb(II) and contact time on biosorption performance of B. circina were examined to optimize the biosorption conditions from aqueous solutions. It was observed that optimum Pb(II) biosorption was performed at pH 6.0. Maximum Pb(II) biosorption capacity was found to be 30.69 at 50 mg/L initial concentration of Pb(II) and equilibrium was established after 60 min. It was indicated that the equilibrium data were better fitted to Langmuir isotherm model and it is better to interpret the kinetic data by the pseudo-second-order model. The competitive Pb(II) biosorption capacity was found to be increased in the presence of co-existing metal ions. To the best of knowledge from related literature, Pb(II) biosorption performance of B. circina has not been reported in advance. In conclusion, Pb(II) biosorption performance of B. circina was revealed as an efficient biosorbent in terms of no requirement of modification, ease of preparation and low cost obtainability., (© 2022. Fruit and vegetable wastes create unhygienic conditions and pose a environmental pollution. The utilization of such wastes as carbon sources for production of enzyme with microbial intervention could be an ecofriendly and profitable approach, apart from diminishing the waste load. The present investigation focused on the feasibility of using mosambi (Citrus limetta) peel as substrate for multienzyme production (pectinase, cellulase and amylase) through microbial intervention. Fifteen fungi were isolated from organic waste and screened in vitro their potential of biodegradation of mosambi peel through enzymes production. The best performing isolate was selected and identified as Trichoderma asperellum NG-125 (accession number-MW287256). Conditions viz. temperature, pH, incubation time and nutrient addition were optimized for efficient enzymes production. The maximum enzyme activity (U ml -1  min -1 ) of pectinase (595.7 ± 2.47), cellulase (497.3 ± 2.06) and amylase (440.9 ± 1.44) were observed at pH 5.5, incubation temperature of 30 °C after 10 days of fermentation. Moreover, macro-nutrients such as ammonium sulfate (0.1%) and potassium-di-hydrogen-ortho-phosphate (0.01%) further also enhanced the production of enzymes. The SDS-PAGE analysis of purified pectinase, cellulase and amylase using showed molecular mass of 43, 66 and 33 kDa, respectively. The enzyme retention activity (ERA) of aforesaid enzymes was also tested with four different natural fiber matrices viz., bagasse, rice husk, paddy straw and wheat straw. Among these, the maximum ERA was observed on bagasse matrix (pectinase-56.35%, cellulose-77.68% and amylase 59.54%). Enzymatic juice clarification yield obtained with test enzyme was 75.8%, as compared to 80.5% of commercial enzyme. Crude oil degradation efficiency can be improved because of co-metabolism that exists when bacterial consortium is applied. However, because of possible vulnerability to environmental conditions and/or antagonistic interactions among members of the consortium, the degradation efficiency can be hampered. In this laboratory-based study, the biodegradation potentials of pure bacterial isolates namely Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain W15 (MW320658), Providencia vermicola strain W8 (MW320661) and Serratia marcescens strain W13 (MW320662) earlier isolated from crude oil-contaminated site and their consortium were evaluated using 3% crude oil-supplemented Bushnell Haas media. The efficiency was evaluated based on the viable cell count, biosurfactant analyses, percentage hydrocarbon degradation using gravimetric analysis and gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometry (GC-MS) analysis. There was decline in the population of W13 and predominance of W15 in the consortium as the incubation period progressed. Accelerated biodegradation of the crude oil hydrocarbons through co-metabolism was not achieved with the consortium; neither was there any improved resilience nor resistance to environmental changes of strain W13. The GC-MS analyses showed that the highest degradation was produced by W15 (48.23%) compared to W8 (46.04%), W13 (45.24%) and the Consortium (28.51%). The biodegradation of the crude oil hydrocarbons by W15, W8, W13 axenic cultures and their consortium treatments demonstrated that the bacterial constituent in a consortium can influence the synergistic effect that improves bioremediation. Future research that focuses on evaluating possible improvement in bioremediation through maintenance of diversity by continuous bioaugmentation using vulnerable but efficient degraders in a consortium is necessary to further understand the application of consortia for bioremediation improvement., (© 2022. A psychrotolerant bacterial strain of Pseudomonas sp. (P. palleroniana GBPI&#95;508), isolated from the Indian Himalayan region, is studied for analyzing its potential for degrading bisphenol A (BPA). Response surface methodology using Box-Behnken design was used to statistically optimize the environmental factors during BPA degradation and the maximum degradation (97%) was obtained at optimum conditions of mineral salt media pH 9, experimental temperature 25 °C, an inoculum volume of 10% (v/v), and agitation speed 130 rpm at the BPA concentration 270 mg L -1 . The Monod model was used for understanding bacterial degradation kinetics, and 37.5 mg -1 half saturation coefficient (K S ) and 0.989 regression coefficient (R 2 ) were obtained. Besides, the utmost specific growth rate µmax was witnessed as 0.080 h -1 with the GBPI&#95;508 during BPA degradation. Metabolic intermediates detected in this study by GC-MS were identified as valeric acid, propionic acid, diglycolic acid, and phenol. The psychrotolerant bacterial strain of Pseudomonas sp. Culturable bacterial diversity and co-occurrence of heavy metal and antibiotic resistance were investigated from the water and sediments along the course of the Teesta River, in the Eastern Himalayas. Water and sediment samples collected from six sampling points during the monsoon and winter seasons were subjected to analysis of physico-chemical parameters, heavy metal contamination and antibiotic tolerance. The culturable bacterial diversity established by application of bacterial culture and 16S rRNA gene sequencing, ascertained the majority belonged to Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, Bacteroidetes and Deinococcus-Thermus. Among the 5 phyla, Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria were the dominant phyla present in both water and sediment samples, whereas Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes and Deinococcus-Thermus were unique to particular sites. The Shannon index indicated that the bacterial richness was more in the water column as compared to sediment. From the total of 245 isolates, 69 genera were identified. Heavy metal tolerance and antibiotic resistance profiles showed some isolates to be tolerant to high levels of heavy metals and multiple antibiotics indicating a major concern in terms of river ecosystem serving as a pool for dissemination of such resistant genes. The antibiotic resistance and heavy metal contamination diversified along the human-impacted downstream sites, endorsing the contribution of anthropogenic factors. The present report on bacterial diversity and the associated metal and antibiotics tolerance among bacteria is the first of its kind on Teesta River, the only major river system flowing through the state of Sikkim and parts of North Bengal., (© 2022. This study characterized the lipopeptide biosurfactants produced by lactic acid bacteria isolated from milk and milk products, in addition to their effect on maize plant growth. The oil displacement test was performed as a primary screening method to select the BS producing bacteria. The strain LM5.2 had the maximum emulsification index of 45.1 ± 3, reduced the surface tension to 32.98 ± 0.23% among all the isolates, and efficiently produced 945.26 ± 4.62 mg/l of biosurfactants within 48 h in MRS broth under the optimum conditions. The isolate LM5.2 was identified using physiochemical tests and 16S rRNA gene sequencing as E. faecium. The biosurfactant was purified by TLC and identified as lipopeptide-like iturins and surfactins based on R f values. Mass spectroscopy, NMR, and FTIR analysis also confirmed the biosurfactant's identity as the derivatives of iturin and surfactin. In vitro biosurfactant application significantly enhanced seedling growth at an optimal concentration of 450 µg/ml. Plant treatment (pot experiment) with E. faecium LM5.2 significantly promoted Zea mays growth compared to the control. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of lipopeptide biosurfactant production by E. faecium. Moreover, the study also showed that the biosurfactant and biosurfactant-producing E. faecium LM5.2 could be an eco-friendly plant growth-promoting agent., (© 2022.
