Formerly, no acceptable methodology existed to facilitate the design of Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) cab glass. The authors developed such a design methodology and are putting it into an appropriate format for use as a standard (ASTM, in preparation). Their methodology follows general procedures from ASTM E 1300-00 (ASTM, 2000). Unlike ASTM E 1300-00 (ASTM, 2000), this methodology bases load resistance of window glass on a probability of breakage of one lite per one thousand at the first occurrence of design loading. This paper describes the development of the methodology and provides a simple design example.
