This paper analyzes the practical application requirements of embedded systems. According to the analysis, we conceive and develop a general experimental platform composed of embedded processor motherboard, general peripheral equipment, and custom connection board. We completed the selection and design of hardware peripherals, driver creation, and testing and showed how to transplant the basic driver for each module. Then embedded system is used in rainfall prediction, which plays an important role. The distribution of four different types of representative stations is analyzed, and the probability characteristics of different precipitation forecast levels are summarized. Secondly, from the point of view of time and space, we will study the total precipitation and flood index during the Meiyu period in Northwest China, and understand their spatial and temporal characteristics. Finally, the precipitation in the coming Meiyu period is predicted by R/S analysis and stationary time series prediction method. However, in the era of big data, the competition is becoming more and more fierce. Lifelong learning algorithm based on Bayesian model can receive data continuously and update the model dynamically in real time. It is suitable for the processing of scalability and data flow pattern. It is one of the hot spots in the field of machine learning. Aiming at the problem of continuous learning of data stream, this paper studies Bayesian model design, parameter reasoning, and multi-data processing. Then, according to the product operation of wavelet transform and short-term monitoring support vector machine, the precipitation dynamic estimation method of rainfall radar multiplier in mountainous area is proposed. Based on the precipitation data of East China in 2019 and the rainfall data observed by radar in mountainous areas, and taking the estimated time as the reference, the radar reflection and rainfall data in mountainous areas in the first 30 min are selected and converted into wavelet field as the training data, and then the dynamic precipitation estimation model is established by using vector medium, and the precipitation in mountainous areas is estimated at 6-min intervals. Finally, this paper makes an intervention study on college students' mental health. The research object is a university student. The subjects are divided into two groups by using random clustering samples. There were 779 people in the experimental group; the other group was the control group, with a total of 355 people. In order to improve their mental health literacy, we should change the implementation of mental health education curriculum. The changes of dependent variables include self-reported mental health literacy, self-efficacy of coping with psychological problems, and behavior attitude of seeking psychological help. Urban sports space is the basis for the fitness activities of urban residents. The service radiation range and intensity reflect the supply problem of urban resources. Based on point of interest (POI) data of Gaode map crawled by Python, this study systematically discussed the accessibility and equity of Nanjing stadiums through further analysis of kernel density, buffer zone, accessibility, and spatial autocorrelation. It is found that the centralized and dispersed layout of sports venues in Nanjing is not reasonable, the accessibility level of different types of stadiums is different, and the number of stadiums does not determine the accessibility. From the further investigation of the local residents and students, this paper again confirmed that there is no necessary relationship between accessibility, equity, and demand in Nanjing. This paper establishes the value relationship model between the imaging performance of GEO bistatic SAR and bistatic geometry and proposes a design method of GEO bistatic SAR imaging method based on genetic algorithm. In this paper, we use Monte Carlo simulation method to estimate the intra group correlation coefficient of the whole group of random sample classification design and recalculate the sample size according to the intra group correlation coefficient. Using this method, we can easily calculate the correlation coefficient and sample size and use the ODS function of SAS software to get word output. Then random samples are classified. In addition, this paper analyzes the relationship between summer heavy precipitation and spatial-temporal variation of circulation rainfall by using daily precipitation data of meteorological stations, NCEP reanalysis data, and relevant circulation index. Singular value decomposition (SVD) method is used to analyze the spatial correlation between spatial-temporal variation of summer rainfall and 500 hPa geopotential height; with the help of wavelet coherence and cross wavelet transform, the relationship between summer heavy rainfall and Western Pacific subtropical high and the relationship between East Asian summer monsoon and South China Sea summer monsoon are analyzed. The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized disasters related to environmental topics, human health, social lifestyles, and economic systems around the world. COVID-19 may further spread through municipal solid waste (MSW), if it is collected, handled, transported, or disposed in an improper way. The current paper provides an overview of the multiple challenges that COVID-19 has introduced to the various tasks of MSW management including the impact of the implemented precautionary measures on MSW management, priorities and hierarchy of MSW, direct impact on the constitution, and characterization of MSW in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, based on waste management characterization guidance. In addition, specific and alternative guidance plans for the potential critical points of the infection were suggested to protect public health during the pandemic. The results of the current study revealed that the hierarchical system of MSW was modified under pandemic conditions. Implementation of control measures in Makkah has led to a change of lifestyle, which resulted in a physical change of the MSW constitution in Makkah, with the following average rates: organic matter, 57%; plastics, 31%; paper and cardboard, 9%; metals, 1%; glass, 1%; and wood, 1%. In conclusion, a specific guidance plan for MSW management during the COVID-19 pandemic was developed, aimed at handlers, pickers, collection, transportation, transfer stations, and MSW disposal. Such a guidance plan may play a vital role in controlling the pandemic, especially in the outdoor environment. In this paper, based on the random simulation method, three joint distribution beach stability monitoring stations are established. Combined with the Gibbs sampling method, the random simulation of the three stations is realized. By comparing the measured and simulated beach stability, the effectiveness of the simulation prediction is checked. The coastal stability assessment technology and more than 1 year of field data observation are used to analyze the coastal stability. From the observed random simulation data, it is shown that there is a completely stable equilibrium position on the bank and beach during the survey period, and there is no large erosion and deposition. According to the existing data and analysis results, it is found that the beach stability is still in a certain dynamic equilibrium. For the beach slope, the slope of the water part of the inclined surface is more obvious in the natural embankment than in the artificial concrete embankment and the artificial bath; the slope of the sloping surface is almost the same as that of the natural embankment, the slope of the artificial concrete, and the slope of the artificial beach. In this paper, an air pollutant assessment and monitoring system based on arm series-embedded system S3C44BOX module is proposed. On this basis, this paper analyzes the annual data of PM2.5, PM10, CO, NO2, SO2, O3, and other air pollutants of 17 monitoring stations in C City in the past year. The results show that the air pollutants have air permeability. At the same time, meteorological factors, temporal and spatial changes, and air pollution factors are discussed. At the same time, this paper uses literature and expert interviews to determine the performance factors of PPP projects. Loess is a special kind of broken granular material, and its structure is closely related to its physical and mechanical properties. From the macroscopic and microscopic study of loess to the multi-step comprehensive study of the development process of loess, in the study of the effect of medium on the structural strength characteristics of loess, many scholars have deeply discussed. At present, the main research direction of loess deformation and fracture is to clarify the nature and mechanism of macro-deformation of loess, especially from the change of microstructure. Therefore, it is of great scientific significance to study and explore the relationship between structure and soil shear strength, which can also provide guidance for specific engineering practice theory. In this paper, the deformation and microstructure characteristics of loess are analyzed according to the water content, and the Q3 loess in Y City is mainly studied. Based on genetic algorithm, the relationship between soil structure and deformation and failure characteristics is studied. However, JRBF network has many uncertain parameters, so it is difficult to determine the optimal value. Therefore, using RBF neural network to predict mine gas emission has certain limitations. In this paper, we use genetic algorithm to optimize and simplify the structure and parameters of RBF network and establish a GA-RBF prediction model to predict the amount of gas emission. The model keeps the best value of network parameters based on the principle of advantages and disadvantages and uses transformation and other operations to select escape algorithm. The simulation results show that the prediction accuracy of ca-rbf is better than that of traditional RBF, and the training speed is also greatly improved. Based on the research of wireless sensor network, this paper studies the gear routing protocol from two aspects of network coding and data fusion technology. A DNC-GEAR routing protocol based on gear algorithm and an improved GEAR data fusion algorithm are proposed. By introducing sensor network coding and data fusion technology, the improved GEAR routing protocol reduces the number of packets sent through the network, propagation delay, and information redundancy. In-depth understanding of the core content of LDPC code aligned cvqkd, and in-depth study of SEC protocol-based coordination process and multidimensional data coordination. Aiming at the problem of long code length and low coordination rate caused by multiple iterations of decoding algorithm in coordination process, a heterogeneous OpenCL platform is proposed to facilitate heterogeneous computing and differential code. The platforms involved are CPU / GPU and CPU / FPGA. Then, the IFAS model uses the uncorrected radar precipitation data to simulate the runoff process, and there are many errors in the simulation results. The IFAS model combined with the corrected precipitation radar data can simulate the discharge process of the upper reaches of the X river with high accuracy. This shows that the use of the data has a basin specific practicability for correcting the radar precipitation data in measuring the plain rainfall near the small river basin; the corrected precipitation radar data can be used as plain rainfall data in IFAS model; finally, this paper studies the influence of sports fatigue on basketball players' free throw, and provides a lot of theoretical basis for exploring the biomechanical mechanism of sports fatigue in free throw and avoidance mechanism. The results show that the bending angles of the wrist and knee do not change before and after fatigue, but the angular velocity of the knee changes significantly. During the picking process of wrist and fingers, the flexion angle of hip joint changed significantly before and after fatigue. The Archean Horne deposit in the Noranda District, Quebec, Canada, is one of the world's largest volcanic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits, which has high economic benefits. Compared to other deposits in the Noranda region, Horne deposit has higher grades and huge storage of Au and Cu. Previous researches mostly focused on two-dimensional characteristics and statistical data, which cannot directly reflect the spatial structures and features of the Horne orebody. Therefore, in this paper, we used the GIS software to digitize the outline curves of massive sulfide and Cu grade values from paralleled level-plans and stope maps. Meanwhile, the spatial database of grade property was established. Based on the above results, the three-dimensional (3D) geological model and grade property model of the Horne orebody were established by software of Geological Object Computer-Aided Design (Gocad). According to the established 3D model of this paper, the spatial structure of the Horne orebody was analyzed and the existence of the ancient main faults cutting the Upper and Lower Horne orebodies was further speculated. Due to the function of main fault and spatial distribution of Cu grade in the 3D Cu property model, the position of hydrothermal vents of the Upper and Lower Horne orebodies and the direction of hydrothermal alteration inside the orebody were inferred. This paper summarizes the Cu enrichment process of the Horne deposit based on the 3D Cu property model and determination of the alteration zones. Furthermore, with the help of metallogenic geological background of the Horne deposit, it further explains that the hydrothermal mineralization model of Horne deposit is sericite-chlorite alternate alteration. The applications of numerical simulation modeling such as assisted history matching, production optimization, and reservoir performance forecasting usually lead to significant time, computer resources, and accordingly huge associated costs. To overcome these circumstances, proxy modeling is the suggested approach to deliver a cheap alternative and approximate nonlinear oil and gas reservoir responses such as recovery factor and reservoir operating parameters and characteristics. Proxy modeling is considered a powerful tool for optimization and uncertainty analysis alike. Conventionally, the reservoir simulation is solved by tuning selected uncertain reservoir parameters one at a time. While, the most important feature of proxy modeling is the ability to determine the combined effect of uncertain parameters at the same time. Petroleum engineering field usually requires a wide variety of parameter estimation problems, and proxy modeling can satisfy this demand. Due to the high in situ stress of the deep rock mass and the restraining effect of the surrounding rock, the deep hole blasting of vertical shaft faces the problems of low borehole utilization rate and poor blasting effect. In this regard, this paper proposes a deep hole multi-stage cut blasting technology of vertical shaft. Preliminary engineering practice shows that such cut blasting technology can make better use of explosive energy, reduce the restraining effect of surrounding rock, and increase the borehole utilization rate. Furthermore, based on the continuum-based discrete element method (CDEM), the fractal damage, fragmentation, and blasting cavity characteristics of deep hole multi-stage cut blasting of vertical shaft are studied and analyzed. The results show that in the multi-stage cut blasting of vertical shaft, if the length proportion of the first stage is too small or too large, it will lead to poor cavity formation along the cut direction. Characteristic parameters such as fractal damage of blasting cavity, fracture degree of element, and fracture degree of interface show a trend of first increasing and then decreasing as the length proportion of the first stage increases, and the length proportion of the first stage has an optimal value. Under the conditions of rock parameters, explosive performance and linear charge density set by the numerical simulation in this paper, when the length proportion of the first stage accounts for 0.42, the multi-stage cut blasting of vertical shaft can make better use of explosive energy and achieve the best blasting effect. Settlement deformation control of loess high fill is the key and difficult point in engineering construction. In this paper, the deformation characteristics of remolded loess under self-weight stress and water content change are summarized by indoor lateral confined compression test and humidification test. Based on the idea of layered summation method, the Gunary stress-strain model and secant modulus method are introduced to divide the settlement of loess high fill foundation into the settlement during construction caused by loading and the settlement after construction caused by water content change, and the calculation method of settlement deformation of loess high fill foundation is put forward. Combined with the actual engineering background, the settlement deformation of high fill engineering is predicted. The results show that the main source of the settlement of high loess fill is the settlement caused by the loading during the construction period. With the increase of fill height, the proportion of post-construction settlement to total settlement increases gradually. Under the condition of optimum moisture content, the exhaust consolidation of soil can be completed when the compaction degree during the construction period reaches more than 95 %, and the later stage of construction is the drainage consolidation of soil. The control of compactness is crucial to high fill engineering. The higher the compactness, the smaller the total settlement. Bridges are playing a major role in the socioeconomic development of any country over the world. Suspension bridges are one of the most sensitive structures to various external influences and loads. Therefore, the need for structural monitoring system, maintenance, and deformation prediction for these types of structures is important and vital. Time of observations for the purpose of structural deformation can vary from a few hours, days to several months, or even years. This paper investigates an integrated monitoring system using GNSS observations for studying the deformation behavior and points displacements prediction for suspension highway bridge, taking into consideration the effect of wind, temperature, humidity, and traffic loads during the operational and short-term measurements. Due to the complexity of the mathematical processing of large GNSS monitoring data for obtaining reliable results, adequate model of several alternatives should be chosen. One of the main objectives of this paper is to investigate the optimum predictive soft computing model for processing GNSS observations and points displacement prediction. Several mathematical models and two cases of data amount (66.67% and 50% of all available data) for dynamic and kinematic state are applied and compared for prediction of suspension bridge displacement with confidence interval with a probability ρ = 0.95, Δ = ±2σ. The resulting point displacement values by applying ANNs and ANFIS, which used a confidence interval with a probability of ρ = 0.95, Δ = ± 2σ when using 66.67% of all data, are more accurate and reliable than any other applied methods; therefore, ANNs and ANFIS can provide a significant improvement of understanding and predicting the structure deformation values where conventional mathematical modeling techniques were not as accurate or capable especially in dynamic prediction of displacements. Image segmentation is an essential process for image evaluation tactics. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image segmentation can be implemented for a vast magnificence of various problems. Due to the existence of speckle noise in SAR images, the edge attributes of the images are unknown. This leads over or under segmentation and produces poor quality of segmented results. In this paper, the deforestation rate of Amazon, South America, has been determined by using the color space-based SAR image segmentation. Since the fuzzy K-means (FKM) clustering technique is robust to speckle noise, it is combined with different color spaces for better segmentation. The proposed method has been compared with different existing methods, and it gives better segmentation results with a segmentation accuracy of 99.5%, Jaccard index of 99%, recall of 99.5%, and specificity of 99.7% with the minimum error rate of 0.004. The segmentation accuracy of 14.9% and the Jaccard index of 10.3% have been improved when compared with FKM clustering technique. This paper suggests that HSV+FKM is a suitable technique for the segmentation of LBA-ECO LC-14 modeled deforestation scenarios. Brazil's National Institute of Spatial Research (INPE) discovered that the span of Amazon could be diminished to 50% by 2050. The roadways with top coal are a common type of roadways in thick coal seam mining. After excavation of such roadways, the top-coal rock mass is often loose and broken, and the roof deformation and failure are serious. Thus, the stability control of such roadways is a major concern of engineering design and construction personnel. In this paper, we take the typical roadways with top coal in Zhaolou coal mine of China's Juye mining area as an example and propose a composite failure mechanism for roadway roof supported by rock bolting. The roof stratification and nonlinear failure characteristics of rock masses are incorporated in it. Then, a simplified design method of roof bolting support is proposed on the basis of the upper bound theorem. Furthermore, this paper shows the influence laws of varying parameters on the required supporting force of roof bolts and provides several practical recommendations for engineering applications. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed method in this paper is further verified through a specific case analysis on a site typical roadway. The paper presents implementation of state-of-the-art pseudo-dynamic rupture in a 3D viscoelastic fourth-order staggered-grid time-domain finite-difference code for the physics-based broadband strong ground motion synthetics. The achieved quantitative improvements in the efficacy of the considered reference pseudo-dynamic rupture model (comprising of random distribution of slip, rake, rise-time of source time function, peak-time as 0.13 times rise-time and rupture arrival time) after the explicit addition of damage zone, fault-roughness and perturbation to the peak-time are highly stimulating in proficient broadband seismic energy radiation and reduction of coherency effects on the high frequency radiations. A final pseudo-dynamic rupture model is implemented with random distribution of all the source parameters along with damage-zone and fault-roughness. An excellent match of the computed pseudo-spectral acceleration using the simulated ground motion by means of the final pseudo-dynamic rupture model with that obtained using NGA-West2 GMPEs for a hypothetical Mw6.5 strike-slip earthquake validates the efficiency of final implemented rupture model. Further, the obtained average of spectral ratio of fault normal and fault parallel ground motions of the order 1.28 (around 1.0) for frequencies 0.8–10 Hz reflects the efficacy to reduce the coherency effect on the high frequency radiations. The observed good match of the simulated ground motion due to the 2004 (Mw6) Parkfield, California earthquake with the earthquake records on rock further validates the efficiency of the implemented final-pseudo-dynamic rupture model in the 3D finite-difference code. The geotechnical shortcomings observed in infrastructure projects, mainly arising from the inadequate mechanical properties of weak soils, pose significant challenges that can lead to disastrous outcomes. Cement-stabilized soils have gained widespread application in response to these challenges. Therefore, this scholarly review paper delves into a broad spectrum of subjects concerning cement-stabilized soils. These subjects encompass aspects such as mechanical strength, dynamic characteristics, durability, advantages and disadvantages, factors influencing the performance of cement-stabilized soils, and cement stabilization mechanisms. Drawing from the findings of numerous prior investigations, the results consistently point to the superior strength and longevity of cement-stabilized soils compared to other stabilization methods, primarily attributable to the formation of hydration products. However, it is worth noting that concerns have been raised regarding the environmental impact in terms of CO2 emissions and the cost associated with the use of cement-stabilized soil. Nevertheless, the available literature suggests that cement-stabilized soil demonstrates cost-effectiveness and a relatively low carbon footprint, particularly in extensive earthwork applications. Roadheaders are widely used for the excavation of roadways in coal mines. Knowing the performance roadheaders is very important for the planning of roadway projects and cost estimation. This paper is aimed at deriving estimation equations including rock mass cuttability classification (RMCC) index for both axial and transverse type roadheaders used in coal mines. An extensive field study was carried out in six different coal mines to measure the performances of roadheaders during the excavation of roadways. The strength of rock, the volumetric joint count, the strike and dip of joints, joint aperture, the Cerchar abrasivity index, and water ingress were also determined for the calculation of the RMCC index. The field and experimental data were assessed using the stepwise multiple regression analysis, and very strong performance estimation equations were derived for both axial and transverse type roadheaders. The validation of the developed models was done by statistical tests. It was revealed that the models are reasonable. This paper presents a new MATLAB code facilitating the localization of lineaments in the earth's crust. The proposed approach is based on a combination of several gravity data processing methods (polynomial separation, upward continuation, horizontal gradient calculation, localization of gradient maxima). To write this code, an algorithm based on a mathematical analysis which takes into account these methods was established. This code separates Bouguer anomalies into regional and residual anomalies, upward-continues residual anomalies at several depths, calculates their horizontal gradients for each depth, and determines the maxima of these gradients. To demonstrate its reliability and efficiency, the code was first applied to synthetic data produced by a prism before being applied to gravity data from the transition zone between the Benue basin and Lake Chad basin. Analysis of the results obtained shows that several lineaments already detected by previous geological and geophysical studies have been identified and localized and new lineaments have been highlighted. The MATLAB code presented in this study allows to simultaneously performing several filters such as polynomial separation, upward continuation, horizontal gradient, and also the localization of the maxima used in geosciences to localize the lineaments. The determination of Brazilian tensile strength (BTS) is an essential step in the analysis and design of mining structures at a particular site. The estimated design parameters are affected by the inherent variability of BTS, measurement errors arising from laboratory testing, and transformation uncertainty associated with the empirical model linking BTS to other rock properties when it is indirectly estimated. These uncertainties are usually lumped together as the total variability of BTS. However, it is the inherent variability resulting from natural geological factors, not the total variability, that directly affects the actual response of rock structures. Hence, there is a need for proper characterization of the inherent variability of BTS while the measurement errors and transformation uncertainty are explicitly incorporated. This paper develops a Bayesian approach which uses sequential updating, that is multi-input oriented for probabilistic characterization of the inherent variability of BTS of rock. The proposed approach systematically combines previous engineering experience and site information from both direct BTS data and data from indirect tests like point load test to inversely infer the inherent variability of BTS. The proposed approach quantitatively accounts for the effects of measurement errors and transformation uncertainty on the characterization of the inherent variability of BTS. The proposed approach is illustrated and validated using real-life data and simulated data. The result shows that the proposed approach provides a proper characterization of the inherent variability of BTS based on available information from multiple sources. Landslides induced by rainfall pose a notable threat to post-earthquake reconstruction in mountainous areas. Taking Qingliu landslide as an example, this paper reveals the potential failure mechanism and range of the landslide mass through field investigation and monitoring data, and further uses the improved computational fluid dynamics method to simulate and predict the disaster range after landslide destabilization. The results show that the landslide was initially deformed and cracked under the influence of strong earthquakes and formed seepage channels for water infiltration. The circulation of surface recharge of groundwater in rainy season and long-distance recharge of groundwater from melting ice and snow in winter season leads to the continuous softening and reduction of sliding resistance in the sliding zone. Under the action of this change chain, the cracks along the back edge and boundary of the landslide continue to develop and expand and finally will lead to landslide collapse failure. The equivalent fluid method can better simulate the movement process and accumulation process of landslide, since the Qingliu landslide is a soil landslide with fluid characteristics in the process of landslide movement. The results indicate that the maximum speed of the mass flow could reach 49 m/s, which could destroy the infrastructures along the sliding path, besides, both of the two landslides could bury Xiameng town below and block the Mengtun River to form a landslide-dammed lake. The activities of quarrying in Ebonyi State have resulted in the loss of soil nutrients and an increase in soil pollution. This paper examines the environmental impact of quarrying on soil quality in the three zones of Ebonyi State, south-eastern Nigeria. To achieve the main aim of the study, three objectives were set: access the environmental impact of quarrying on the soil quality of the three zones of Ebonyi district; examine the physico-chemical properties of the soil; and evaluate the environmental impact of quarrying on the heavy metal content of the soil. The auger and core samples were collected at a depth of 20 cm to obtain physicochemical soil properties and heavy metal content. The generated data were subjected to factor analysis, which consists of a correlation matrix, KMO and Bartlett's test, communalities, total variance, scree plot, and component matrix. The major results showed that quarrying has significantly negatively impacted the soils of the three zones of Ebonyi State, as it has led to distortions in soil quality. The results also proved that soil quality within 0–50 m of quarry sites was found to be poorer than in the control area. Positive correlation matrix studies between the quarry locations revealed a common origin of pollution and the negative impact of quarry activities on soil. Based on the results, the study strongly recommends that such soils not be used for agricultural production unless remediation methods are in place, such as bioremediation, soil washing, and thermal desorption. Land surface temperature (LST) is a key variable used in climatic modeling, monitoring, and assessing urban heat islands (UHI) impacts. The extraction of LST and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) from earth observation satellite data for continuous monitoring at a local or regional scale is a challenging task. In this paper, a Python-based semi-automatic tool (LS8pyCalc) has been developed based on USGS-provided equations to calculate LST and NDVI using LANDSAT-8 (LS8) images with minimum input parameters using graphical user interface (GUI). The developed tool was successfully implemented in the Punjab Rice Wheat Agroclimatic Zone (PRW-ACZ). The tool's accuracy was validated through in situ observations and compared with Google Earth Engine (GEE) derived Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) product using eight statistical parameters at 43 sites having varieties of geo-features (sparse and dense vegetated, built-up area, and water bodies). Land use land cover (LULC) extracted from Copernicus Global Land Cover Layers was used to correlate the outcomes. The derived LS8-LST showed that the study area experiences a wide range of surface temperature from 39.70 to 21.18 °C same as NDVI ranges −0.19 to 0.60. The results showed mean absolute error (MAE) and R2 ranges of 0.83–1.08 and 0.88–0.96, respectively, with field observation. The value of MAE and R2 with the MODIS dataset was observed as 4.26–5.42 and 0.46–0.87, respectively, with an overall insignificant error (max < 12%). The study would be helpful in LST, UHI, and vegetation monitoring at national and international scales due to the ease of large data processing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The stability of the excavated space is one of the basic issues in the design of mines and underground spaces, which if not adequately addressed, leads to economical losses, accidents, and casualties. In this paper, using gene-expression programming (GEP) algorithm, two models are developed to predict the stability situation (stable-unstable-cave) of underground open stopes. For this purpose, a database containing two parameters affecting the stability status including hydraulic radius and stability number has been used. Finally, two new stability graphs including stable-unstable/S-U and unstable-cave/U-C (with iso-probability lines) have been developed to predict the stability situation. The performance of the developed models was evaluated based on four statistical criteria (such as specificity, sensitivity, accuracy, and Matthew's correlation coefficient), ROC curve, testing datasets, and comparison with previously developed models. The results showed that the developed models have a high performance (accuracy = 86.46, sensitivity = 0.838, specificity = 0.887, Matthew's correlation coefficient = 0.730, and area under the ROC curve = 0.900 for S-U model and accuracy = 80.68, sensitivity = 0.794, specificity = 0.823, Matthew's correlation coefficient = 0.610, and area under the ROC curve = 0.842 for U-C model) and also the validity of the model is guaranteed according to the evaluation of the test database (accuracy = 81.36, sensitivity = 0.770, specificity = 0.850, Matthew's correlation coefficient = 0.620, and area under the ROC curve = 0.873 for S-U model and accuracy = 80, sensitivity = 0.762, specificity = 0.857, Matthew's correlation coefficient = 0.610, and area under the ROC curve = 0.891 for U-C model). The results of comparing the developed GEP model with previously developed models in this field showed that the GEP model can evaluate stope wall stability with acceptable accuracy, and they have to potential to contribute to the design of open stopes and support system as efficient and useful tools. The measurement of surface runoff holds pivotal significance in the prediction of rainfall and runoff patterns, with the outcomes of these predictive models playing a crucial role in sustainable water resource management. The accuracy and availability of surface runoff measurements considerably influence the level of uncertainty inherent in the model outcomes. Particularly in developing nations, continuous and reliable surface runoff data is often lacking. However, the advantage of satellite imagery lies in its constant and cost-free accessibility, offering a potential avenue for comprehensive measurements of the hydrological cycle. It is noteworthy that previous research has illuminated biases in satellite-based measurements, emphasizing the need for bias removal. This paper introduces an uncomplicated approach for calculating runoff measurements, segmented into three distinct stages. The initial phase involves the mapping of surface water using the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI). The subsequent stage entails the adjustment of estimated surface areas through a linear regression mechanism, based on average monthly surface area data. The final stage encompasses the computation of water volumes, facilitated by a storage elevation curve. To rigorously examine the efficacy of the proposed methodology, the study applies the correlation coefficient (CC), mean errors (ME), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and Nash Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE) to assess the performance at the Jalajil Dam in Saudi Arabia, spanning from March 2017 to September 2021. This timeline is divided into calibration (March 2017–August 2020) and validation (September 2020–September 2021) phases to ascertain the constant and slope of the linear regression. Overall, the methodology demonstrates promising results: Monthly calibrated runoff volumes exhibit a CC of approximately 0.98, the mean of ME settles around − 0.01 MCM, RMSE stands at 0.07 MCM, and the NSE attains a value of 0.91. The outcomes underscore that the proposed approach is well-suited for estimating runoff volumes at the dam, offering a viable option when ground observations are limited or unattainable.
