The significance of predicting the dynamic response and damage of an existing concrete tunnel during underground blasting has increased owing to the close proximity between the newly built and existing tunnels. Peak particle velocity (PPV) is a commonly used criterion in the assessment of blast-induced structural damage. However, such structural damage is also associated with the frequency content of the blast wave. Nevertheless, the recommended threshold PPVs, which are based on empirical criteria, predict conservative estimations. Using stringent and regulated blasting methods often results in project delays and escalates the total project expenditure. In this paper, a three-dimensional finite element model of an underground tunnel has been developed in LS-DYNA to analyze damage to the concrete tunnels under blast loading. A suite of analyses was performed to examine the potential damage induced in the underground tunnel. A lower frequency load was found to have a greater potential for producing damage compared with a high frequency blast load. The results showed that the location of the cracking within the tunnel, such as the arch foot or tunnel wall, was also influenced by the frequency of the blast wave. The maximum allowable PPV for the concrete tunnel was determined for a range of frequencies based on predicted free field PPV and additional factors of safety of 1.2 and 1.5 were established, depending on the safety needs and importance of the tunnel construction. Featured Application: The shock wave generator developed in this article is easy to operate and reusable. It can generate high-pressure and high-speed shock waves. Therefore, it can be widely used in the design and development of various devices, such as shock-driven power generation devices, pipeline obstruction removal devices, geothermal well productivity enhancement devices, lightweight rock fracture devices for disaster relief, shock wave soil loosening and hole fertilization devices that can reduce soil carbon emissions, etc. Wind energy is a kind of renewable energy with great potential for development. This study mainly investigated the application of shock waves generated by high-pressure gases (wind energy) for generating energy. In this study, we designed a new supersonic shock wave generator that can be reused without disassembling and assembling bolts and developed a shock wave monitoring system. It could measure the velocity of the generated shock waves at about Mach 3–5, and the output pressure exceeded 900 kg/cm2 (more than 100 times the input pressure). Then, we developed a power generation system driven by supersonic shock waves based on the characteristics of the new shock wave generator, which could generate high-pressure and high-speed blast waves and could be reused. The shock wave generator can repeatedly generate high-pressure waves to drive the Tesla turbine and then rotate the magnetic energy generator for power generation. This paper used tank pressure, output pressure, gas flow, rotation speed, voltage, and current detected by the system to conduct power generation performance analysis. When the minimum rotation speed was set to 1500 rpm and three bulbs were turned on as loads, the system could generate an average voltage of 36.64 V and an average current of 211.01 mA as output (power about 7731.41 mW). In tunnel smooth blasting, optimizing the water interval charging structure of peripheral holes is of great significance in improving the effect of smooth blasting and reducing the unit consumption of explosives. Addressing the issue of a single traditional evaluation standard, this paper proposes a composite index evaluation method for rock blasting damage in different zones, and the best charging structure is optimized according to the evaluation results. Taking Liyue Road Tunnel Light Smooth Blasting Project in Chongqing as the Research Background, the numeric models were established with ten kinds of charge structures, the charge structures and explosive quantity were optimized according to the evaluation results, and then the field tests were conducted. The results show that when the length of the water medium at the bottom of the hole is 20 cm, the damage range of the retained rock mass can be controlled while ensuring rock fragmentation. If the length of the water medium at the orifice and in the center of the hole is more than 30 cm, it will affect the superposition effect of the blast stress wave, resulting in under-excavation; in the preferred charge structure, the ratio of the length of the upper and lower explosives reaches 1:3, and the ratio of the length of the water medium is 2:2:1, which achieves a better rock-breaking effect in the field test. To reduce the large size of a gunshot recognition network model and to improve the insufficient real-time detection in urban combat, this paper proposes a fast gunshot type recognition method based on knowledge distillation. First, the muzzle blast and the shock wave generated by the gunshot are preprocessed, and the quality of the gunshot recognition dataset is improved using Log-Mel spectrum corresponding to these two signals. Second, a teacher network is constructed using 10 two-dimensional residual modules, and a student network is designed using depth wise separable convolution. Third, the lightweight student network is made to learn the gunshot features under the guidance of the pre-trained large-scale teacher network. Finally, the network's accuracy, model size, and recognition time are tested using the AudioSet dataset and the NIJ Grant 2016-DN-BX-0183 gunshot dataset. The findings demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieved 95.6% and 83.5% accuracy on the two datasets, the speed was 0.5 s faster, and the model size was reduced to 2.5 MB. Explosions in an urban setting can have a significant negative impact. There is a need to further understand the loading effects caused by the blast's interaction with structures. In conjunction with this, the effects of scaling and understanding the limitations of laboratory experiments are equally important given the cost incurred for full-scale experiments. The aim of this study was to determine the scaling effects on blast wave parameters found for reduced-scale urban blast scenario laboratory experiments. This paper presents the results of numerical modelling and physical experiments on detonating cuboidal PE-4 charges and measuring the pressure in direct line of sight and at three distinct positions around the corner of a small-scale "building" parallel to the rear wall. Two scales were used, namely 75% and 100%. Inter-scaling between 75% and 100% worked fairly well for positions shielded by the corner of the wall. Additionally, the lab-scale results were compared to similar (but not identical) field trials at an equivalent scale of 250%. The comparison between lab-scale idealised testing and the larger-scale field trials published by Gajewksi and Sielicki in 2020, indicated sensitivity to factors such as detonator positioning, explosive material, charge confinement/mounting, building surface roughness, and environment. An explosion inside a cabin will converge at the corners to form high-pressure areas, significantly impacting the destruction of a bulkhead structure. This paper investigates shock wave convergence characteristics at the corners when the explosive detonates at the center of the cabin, based on a combination of the wall reflection law for shock waves and a numerical simulation method. The parameter K represents the aspect ratio of the cabin structure. This study shows that when 1 ≤ K ≤ 1.19, the high pressure at the corner is caused by the superposition of Mach waves along both wall surfaces. However, for the initial shock wave, when 1.2 < K ≤ 2, the high pressure is caused by the superposition of Mach waves along the longer wall surface and regular reflected waves on the shorter wall surface; when 2 < K, the cause are Mach waves along the longer wall surface and the corresponding positive reflection on the shorter wall surface. The influence of K on the range for the high-pressure region at the corner is also analyzed, the functional relationship between the range of the high-pressure area and K is given, and the universality is verified. Requirements for explosive safety are often given in terms of a "K-Factor", correlating incident blast effects with the distance and TNT equivalent weight of an explosion. Traditionally, this is conducted using empirical correlations to experimental measurements (e.g., the Kingery–Bulmash equations). In the far-field, empirical verification of incident overpressure and impulse magnitudes can be difficult; extrapolations from data give expected values at reasonable standoff distances that sometimes are too small to measure on available equipment but are larger than some regulations require. The present paper describes the results of numerical hydrocode analysis to verify the expected incident overpressure and impulse from small hemispherical ground charges of TNT at these relatively large distances. Furthermore, the dynamic effect of incident blast waves on lightweight, modular mitigation barriers is studied to gauge their effectiveness at providing safety standard compliance. This work is a part of a larger research effort to better understand the combined effect of the blast wave and fragment impacts following the detonation of a shrapnel bomb. It is known that the time interval Δ t , which represents the difference in arrival time between the blast wave front and the fragment at the position of a given target object, has a significant influence on its response mode. This paper presents insights into the establishment of a laboratory scale technique to generate a combined blast loading and single or multiple projectile impacts on a target. The objective of the setup is to control the time interval Δ t to a certain extent so that the different response modes of the tested structures can be investigated. In order to reduce the complexity associated with the random nature of the shrapnel, steel ball bearings are used to simulate the projected fragments. They are embedded in a solid explosive charge, which is detonated at the entrance of an explosive driven shock tube. The experimental work demonstrates that it is possible to orient the path of a single projectile inside the tube when aiming at a target positioned at its exit. The setup guarantees the generation of a well-controlled planar blast wave characterized by its peak pressure, impulse and blast wave arrival time at the exit of the tube. The influence of the mass of the charge and the diameter of the projectile on its velocity study shows that for the same charge mass, the time interval increases with increasing projectile diameter. The experiments are numerically simulated based on an Eulerian approach using the LS-DYNA finite element software. The computational model allows to reveal details about the projectile flight characteristics inside the tube. This paper presents the issue of determining the blast load on an engineering structure. In cases of industrial accidents or terrorist attacks, in many cases it is necessary to determine the necessary explosion parameters to determine the response of the structure, preferably in a simple and time-saving manner. In such a way, the empirical relationships can be used to estimate the selected parameters of the explosion load. Many empirical relationships have been derived in the past, but not all are suitable for different types of explosions. This article compares and validates experimentally determined selected explosion parameters for the chosen explosive with empirical relationships. For comparison, three already verified and frequently used calculation procedures (Kingery, Kinney, Henrych) and one newly derived procedure (PECH) were used. As part of the experimental measurements, blast wave explosion parameters for small charges were determined for near-field explosions. The general-purpose plastic explosive Semtex 10-SE was used for the experiments. The results of the comparative study presented in this article demonstrate the importance of taking these procedures into account for a reliable determination of the effects of blast actions on buildings. In this paper, protective barriers made of perforated plates with or without a water cover were investigated. In urban areas, such barriers could be envisaged for the protection of facades. An explosive-driven shock tube, combined with a retroreflective shadowgraph technique, was used to visualize the interaction of a blast wave profile with one or two plates made of expanded metal. Free-field air blast experiments were performed in order to evaluate the solution under real conditions. Configurations with either one or two grids were investigated. The transmitted pressure was measured on a wall placed behind the plate(s). It was observed that the overpressure and the impulse downstream of the plate(s) were reduced and that the mitigation performance increased with the number of plates. Adding a water layer on one grid contributed to enhance its mitigation capacity. In the setup with two plates, the addition of a water cover on the first grid induced only a modest improvement. The need for building protection against blast loads is a crucial issue nowadays due to the escalating threat of terrorist attacks, which affect people's lives and critical structures. Consequently, design of protective panels to segregate building façades from the effect of a nearby explosion is required. Such design mainly depends on the ability of protective panels to mitigate and diffract the blast wave before reaching building façades. Five protective panel models with different designs, referred to as the Combined Protection System (CPS), are introduced in this paper. The main objective of this research was to achieve a design that could sustain a blast load with minimum plastic deformations. The introduced CPS designs included two steel plates linked by connector plates. The CPS dimensions were 3 m × 3 m × 0.35 m, representing length, width, and height, respectively. After that, the successful panel design was supported by placing these panels onto a masonry wall in different configurations. The protective panels were tested against 50 kg of trinitrotoluene (TNT) with a standoff distance of one meter. The final run of the optimum model was carried out using a blast load equivalent to 500 kg of TNT. The air–structure interactions were simulated using finite element analysis software called "ANSYS AUTODYN", where the deformation of the panel was the governing parameter to evaluate the behavior of different designs. The analysis showed minimum deformation of the CPS design with vertical and horizontal connecting plates in a masonry wall distanced at 500 mm from the panel. Featured Application: The work can be used to estimate the impact on crew modules of blast wave caused by liquid rocket explosion, and to improve the ability of crew modules and to develop safety standards by using numerical simulations. The role of manned space flight in the field of space exploration and utilization is growing. However, the security system of the manned spaceflight is still imperfect. In the case that the rocket explodes, crew modules maybe damaged by the blast wave, which will threaten the safety of the crews. This research aims to obtain the necessary data and information to enable the designers of the launch vehicles and crew modules to develop safer launch systems. To this end, this paper proposes a numerical method using LS-DYNA to study the propagation law of blast waves caused by rocket explosion on the launch pad and to quantify the impact of the blast wave on crew module. The numerical results indicate that the final blast waveform of the model with rocket is conical in the upper and lower parts, and spherical in the middle. At the same time, the third-stage explosion is the most harmful to the crew module, while the first-stage explosion is the least. Furthermore, the model with rocket has a marked effect on explosion strength: the pressure enhancement factor is about 4–17 times. Most importantly, overpressure prediction formula acting on the crew modulesof explosion on the launch pad is established for quick peak overpressure predicting and damage evaluating. Although the use of polyethylene (PE) pipelines has become increasingly widespread in recent years, few studies have addressed their seismic design and ability to withstand blast waves. In order to establish their seismic capacity, the dynamic response of buried pipelines subjected to blast waves must be explored in depth. Here, we studied the dynamic response of PE pipes situated near an explosive source. Time histories of dynamic strains were measured by conventional strain gauges after simple waterproof treatment, and pipe and ground vibration velocity curves were obtained. Based on the experimental data, the attenuation law of the peak strains under the conditions of different charge masses and blast center distances was analyzed, and the spectrum characteristics of strain, velocity of the pipe, and ground velocity were studied. The results revealed that a large hoop strain on the PE pipes was produced due to the local impact near the explosive source. We found that peak hoop strain (PHS) or peak axial strain (PAS) had a power attenuation relationship with the scaled distance, and this relationship could also be derived by dimensional analysis. The average frequency of strains had the same attenuation form as the charge mass, which was between 10 Hz and 50 Hz. Additionally, the vibration of the pipe showed a low frequency. We also determined that the attenuation of the average frequency of pipe and ground vibration velocity was closely related to the charge mass and the scaled distance. Pipe peak vibration velocity (PPVV), ground peak particle velocity (GPPV), and the peak dynamic strain of pipe were highly positively correlated, which verifies the feasibility of using GPPV to characterize pipeline vibration and strain level. Thus, a blasting criterion of 10% minimum request strength (MRS) for PE pipe was proposed, which means that the additional PHS or PAS of the dangerous point must be less than 10% MRS, and we also propose limiting the safety distance–charge mass for blasts near buried PE pipelines by the criterion. The initial stresses have a strong effect on the mechanical behavior of underground rock masses, and the initial stressed rock masses are usually under strong dynamic disturbances such as blasting and earthquakes. The influence mechanism of a blasting excavation on underground rock masses can be revealed by studying the propagation of stress waves in them. In this paper, the improved Mohr-Coulomb elasto-plastic constitutive model of the intact rock considering the initial damage was first established and numerically implemented in Universal Distinct Element Code (UDEC) based on the variation of the experimental stress wave velocity in the initial stressed intact rock, and the feasibility of combining the established rock constitutive model and the BB (Bandis-Barton) model which characterizes the nonlinear deformation of the joints to simulate stress waves across jointed rock masses under initial stress was validated by comparing the numerical and model test results subsequently. Finally, further parameter studies were carried out through the UDEC to investigate the effect of the initial stress, angle, and number of joints on the transmission of the blasting stress wave in the jointed rock mass. The results showed that the initial stress significantly changed the propagation of the stress waves in the jointed rock mass. When the initial stress was small, the transmission coefficients of the stress waves in the jointed rock were vulnerable to be influenced by the variation of the angle and the number of joints, while the effect of the angle and the number of joints on the stress wave propagation gradually weakened as the initial stress increased. Featured Application: (1) A gas explosion simulation combining the chemical reaction mechanism and tunnel structure is described; (2) the shock wave flow fields in tunnels with uneven walls and smooth walls are compared; and (3) the dynamic responses in tunnels with uneven walls and smooth walls are analyzed. A numerical simulation method combining the detailed chemical reaction mechanism of methane deflagration with an approximate real tunnel structure was proposed to confirm whether the unevenness of the tunnel wall during a coal mine gas explosion can be ignored. The approximate real tunnel model and smooth wall tunnel model were developed using 3D modeling methods. The propagation and attenuation processes of shock waves in the two tunnel models, as well as the different dynamic responses of the two tunnel walls, were compared and analyzed. Research results show that the non-uniformity of the tunnel wall decreases the shock wave overpressure and propagation velocity. The peak overpressure reduction value of the shock wave reaches 81.91 kPa, and the shock wave overpressure reaches its peak at an extended maximum time of 7.4 ms. The stress distribution on the approximate real tunnel wall is discontinuous, the propagation speed of stress waves in the bend tunnel is slower, and the duration of high load is relatively low. The displacement of the approximate real tunnel after gas explosion is lower than that of tunnels with smooth walls, and the displacement of most measuring points on the tunnel on the right is only 1/3–1/2 that of the smooth tunnel. Smooth surface blasting control technology is aimed at blasting the rock body until it is left with a smooth surface and to protect it from damage; the current air spaced axial uncoupled charge and air spaced radial uncoupled continuous charge are effective charging structures for smooth surface blasting. Reserved air spacing can effectively reduce the blast wave and the peak pressure of the explosive gas, improving the quasi-static pressure of the explosive gas under the action of rock surface blasting with fracture seam quality. In order to ensure the effect of surface blasting, small-diameter light surface holes are more often used; with the development of drilling machinery, the use of large-diameter light blast holes with an oversized uncoupled coefficient of loading structure effectively improves the efficiency of the construction and at the same time achieves better blasting results. However, according to the bursting assumption of obtaining the theory of light surface blasting in the application of large uncoupling coefficient loading, light surface blasting has certain limitations. In this regard, the bursting theory explores the air spacing uncoupling charge in line with the multi-faceted exponential expansion of the critical uncoupling coefficient and is in accordance with the following: the requirements of light surface blasting and the field loading structure; the derivation of the quasi-static pressure on the wall of the gunhole under the action of large uncoupling, uncoupling coefficient, and the parameters of the spacing between the gunholes; the establishment of the axial uncoupling coefficient and the radial uncoupling coefficient-equivalent relationship between the uncoupling coefficient and the theoretical relationship between the selection of the spacing between the holes; the uncoupling coefficient and the selection of the theoretical relationship between the spacing between the holes. This study reveals the mechanism by which different parameters of surface blasting can achieve good results in engineering practices. A slope in Guizhou is an example of sample calculations and the application of two different charging structures applied to field loading, which have achieved good surface blasting results. A dynamic disturbance will induce cracks around the tunnel in tunnel blasting or shield construction. To investigate the overall stability of cracks with various angles during a fixed borehole (round hole explosion) blasting, models containing an individual crack with different angles were introduced for simulation research. The research set up a thin sheet model with a length of 350 mm and a width of 150 mm, with a 7 mm diameter hole and a pre-existing crack of 75 mm and 5 mm in the middle. The evolution of the stress wave propagation model and the crack propagation model were simulated using the AUTODYN software. And in this study, the theory of stress wave is used to creatively explain the dynamic load under the action of formation and reasons for the danger zone. The results indicate that pre-existing cracks from different angles will have an impact on the blast hole and the new cracks generated around itself. At 45–90°, pre-existing cracks will direct reflected stress waves to promote some cracks around the hole to have faster growth rates than others, and these special cracks with faster growths and longer lengths will more easily connect with the free surface or other cracks, resulting in overall instability. And these conditions are consistent with the prediction made by the stress wave propagation simulation study. The experience of recent military missions clearly shows the importance of protecting vehicles and the people they carry from mines and IEDs. This protection can be achieved in many ways, using both active and passive solutions. One of the most popular solutions is using energy deflectors, which, thanks to their appropriately selected shape, can dissipate the energy from the detonation of an explosive charge, thus reducing the blast wave loading on the protected structure. The article presents the research results on two innovative groups of deflectors—double-bend and semi-spherical, characterized by a better ability to disperse energy than traditionally used V-shaped deflectors. Several possible geometric shapes differing in critical dimensions were selected, and both experimental studies and numerical analyses were carried out. A ballistic pendulum was used to measure individual deflectors' performances. The tests proved the tested solutions' increased effectiveness compared with V-shaped deflectors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During blasting, rock failure is caused by blasting wave and explosive gas pressure, as a multi-field coupled process. Most numerical models focus on the effect of blasting wave where the gas pressure is commonly accounted for by empirical relations, ignoring the penetration and permeation of gas flow in cracks. This can underestimate the failure region. In this work, a novel multi-field model is developed in the framework of a continuous-discontinuous element method (CDEM), which is a coupled finite-discrete method with explicit integration strategy. The deformation and cracking of rock mass and the distribution of gas pressure are captured. The proposed method is verified by comparing the results to other results provided in published literature. Especially, by simulating the cases with blocked and unblocked blasting hole, we found that: (i) The fracture degree of the case with blocked blasting hole was 30% higher than that of the unblocked blasting hole. (ii) The radial main cracks in the fracture area are mainly caused by the explosive gas, and the tiny and dense cracks near the hole are induced by the explosion stress wave. (iii) The explosion crushing zone is mainly formed by the action of explosion stress wave, while the crack zone is formed by the combined action of the explosion stress wave and explosive gas. The middle rock pillar in ultra-small-spacing tunnels is significantly narrow, and the stability of the primary support and lining are easily influenced by the blasting vibration wave from an adjacent tunnel. Therefore, understanding the vibration frequency characteristics is essential for the blasting vibration control. Based on the blasting works on a double-track roadway tunnel (Jiuwuji tunnel in Guizhou, China), this study investigates the dominant frequency attenuation in the preceding tunnel with the middle rock pillar spacing ranging from 4.0 m to 9.4 m. The results show that the ranges of the dominant frequency distributions on the primary support and lining are widely within 200 Hz, but there are varieties in their propagation laws. The distribution of the dominant frequencies on the primary support is broader than that on the lining; and the dominant frequencies are concentrated on a specific range when the lining is far from the blast face beside a particular value, which is not present on the primary support. As the presence of cavity and changing medium between the lining and the primary support, it made a significant contribution to the filtering the vibration waves. Furthermore, on the primary support, the high-frequency part of the vibration waves attenuates rapidly with distance, and then, the practical prediction equations describing dominant frequency attenuation were proposed. The comparison on frequency characteristics per delay for the millisecond delay blasting shows that multiple delay sequences blast contributes to a multi-structured amplitude spectrum of blast vibration waves; and the varies of the equivalent explosion sources dimensions and numbers of free surfaces in each blast delay resulting in diverse vibration waveforms. Finally, the dominant frequencies determined by different methods were compared, and the results show a nonlinear relationship between the ZCFs and DFs. Featured Application: Scaling of Explosions. We considered the topic of explosions from spherical high-explosive (HE) charges. We studied how the turbulent combustion fields scale. On the basis of theories of dimensional analysis by Bridgman and similarity theories of Sedov and Barenblatt, we found that all fields scaled with the explosion length scale r0. This included the blast wave, the mean and root mean squared (RMS) profiles of thermodynamic variables, combustion variables, velocities, vorticity, and turbulent Reynolds stresses. This was a consequence of the formulation of the problem and our numerical method, which both satisfied the similarity conditions of Sedov. We performed numerical simulations of 1 g charges and 1 kg charges; the solutions were identical (within roundoff error) when plotted in scaled variables. We also explored scaling laws related to three-phase pyrotechnic explosions. We show that although the scaling formally broke down, the fireball still essentially scaled with the explosion length scale r0. However, the discrete Lagrange particles (DLP) (phase 2) and the heterogeneous continuum model (HCM) of the DLP wakes (phase 3) did not scale with r0, and mean and RMS profiles could differ by a factor of 10 in some regions. Considering the problems related to hard rock blasting under high in-situ stresses at large depths, we conducted crater blasting tests on sandstone specimens under three static load conditions to investigate the strain field evolution of rock blasting under high stress. The digital image correlation (DIC) technique was used to monitor the evolution of the strain field on the free surface. Thus, the influence of the static stress on the blasting strain field was analyzed, and the formation mechanism of cracks on the free surface was elucidated. The results indicate that a circular tensile strain zone was formed without static loading. The direction of the maximum principal strain was perpendicular to the radius, which lead to the random emergence of multiple radial tensile cracks. Under a uniaxial static loading, an elliptical tensile strain zone was formed. The direction of the maximum principal strain was perpendicular to the static loading direction. This facilitated the initiation and propagation of tensile cracks preferentially in the direction parallel to the static loading. Under an equal biaxial static loading, the initial compressive strain in the specimen reduced the increment rate of the blasting strain, and restrained the formation of surface cracks. Featured Application: Reflected near-field blast pressure measurement. The Hopkinson pressure bar is widely used to measure the reflected pressure of blast waves over a short distance. However, dispersion effects will occur when the elastic stress waves propagate in the pressure bar due to lateral inertia, and there will be errors between the signals obtained from the sensors and the actual loading. For the free surface velocity measured in our system, we developed a local phase-amplitude joint correction method to convert the measured velocity into the average reflected pressure of a shock wave at the impact end of the bar, considering factors such as propagation modes of the elastic wave, the frequency components' time of arrival, velocity variation over the bar axis, and the stress–velocity relationship. Firstly, the Pochhammer–Chree frequency equation is calculated numerically, and the first to fourth orders of phase velocity, group velocity, normalized frequency, and propagation time curves of elastic wave propagation in 35CrMnSiA steel are obtained. Secondly, the phase and amplitude correction formulas for calculating average reflected pressure from center velocity are derived based on the propagation mode of the axial elastic wave in the pressure bar by analyzing the time-frequency combined spectrum obtained by short-time Fourier transform. Thirdly, a local phase-amplitude joint correction algorithm based on propagation mode is proposed in detail. The experimental tests and data analyses are carried out for eight sets of pressure bar. The results show that this method can identify the propagation mode of elastic waves in the bar intuitively and clearly. The first three orders of propagation modes are stimulated in the bar 04, while only the first order of propagation is stimulated in the other eight bars. The local phase-amplitude joint correction algorithm can avoid correcting the component of the non-axial elastic wave. The rising edge of the average stress curve on the impact surface of bar 01 and bar 04 is corrected from 4.13 μs and 4.09 μs to 2.70 μs, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study uses a dynamic caustic technique to study the crack propagation in a medium containing an unfilled joint under blasting. The results show that for the medium containing a vertical unfilled joint, the reflected dilatational wave from the joint tends to suppress both the K I d and the velocity of the opposite propagating crack. However, for the medium containing an oblique joint, the reflected wave from the joint increases K II d , and induces the opposite propagating crack deflect from its original path. Compared with the medium with a vertical joint, the wing cracks are more easy to initiate at the oblique joint where a significant stress concentration is formed under the diffraction of the blast wave. Combined with numerical results, it is found that the wing crack deflects in the clockwise direction when the shear stress was negative, and it turns to counterclockwise when the shear stress was positive.
