Abstract

In this paper, we have measured the magneto-optical spin Hall effect influenced by an arbitrary oriented magnetic field using CeDyAl thin films on Gd3Ga5O12 (GGG) substrates as reflective materials. Plots of the variation of the magneto-optic spin Hall effect (MOPSHE) with magnetic field strength, the hysteresis line, in three different unit-direction magnetic fields are simulated and experimentally measured. The comparison of the simulation results with the experiments allows the method of weak measurement to determine the MOPSHE under the influence of the magnetic field to be validated. MOPSHE under a three-dimensional magnetic field is measured and the measurement error is within 4 μ m. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Hexagonal LuFeO3 films have been studied using x-ray absorption and optical spectroscopy. The crystal splitting of Fe3+ is extracted as Ee′-Ee″=0.7 eV and Ea1′-Ee′=0.9 eV, and a 2.0 eV optical bandgap is determined assuming a direct gap. First-principles calculations confirm the experiments that the relative energies of crystal field splitting states do follow Ea1′>Ee′>Ee″ with slightly underestimated values and a bandgap of 1.35 eV. Abstract

In an attempt to overcome the technical challenges in the conventional solution-processed near infrared (NIR) photodetectors, we have used NaYF4:Yb, Er upconversion fluorescence nanocrystals to replace the semiconductor quantum dots in conjugated polymers. Under NIR excitation, the NaYF4:Yb, Er nanocrystals emit visible light in the solution-processed NIR photodetectors. The emitted visible light is simultaneously absorbed by the host conjugated polymer to generate photocurrent, which indicates that our approach is applicable to fabricate NIR photodetectors while avoiding the major technical challenges associated with semiconductor quantum dot based NIR photodetectors.
