Abstract

application/pdf, It is shown that a porous silicon Fabry–Pe´rot resonator device exhibits a significant nonlinear optical transmission behavior at wavelengths in the near-infrared region. The input–output (transmission–incident power) response curve shows superlinear or sublinear behavior dependent on excitation wavelengths around the resonant position. These characteristics are interpreted as a result of nonlinear refractive index change, including by enhanced optical power in the Fabry–Pe´rot cavity configuration and carrier accumulation in silicon nanocrystallites. The result leads to further progress of nanocrystalline silicon into functional photonic device applications.

Abstract

application/pdf, We have studied and compared the optical properties of both porous Si and the chemically synthesized planar and cubic Si skeleton clusters. Broad photoluminescence with large Stokes shifts were observed at the visible region in both samples. Spectroscopic analysis suggests that the surface of porous Si is similar to a condensation of Si clusters. Small Si clusters play a key role in the strong room-temperature photoluminescence in porous Si.

Abstract

We report cavity enhanced periodic structures in cathode luminescence spectra in TiO2:Eu3+ microspheres ranging from 6.2 to 12.2 μm in diameter. The spectral structures observed at the accelerating voltage below 10 kV are attributed to the lower order whispering galley modes, while the additional components appearing at 20 kV are to the higher order modes within the microsphere. These observations illustrate that the basic properties of phosphors can be advanced from the point of view of cavity quantum electrodynamics by fabricating a microcavity structure onto a single phosphor crystal. Abstract

A phosphor material, Y1-xEuxCa4O(BO3)3 (0≤x≤1) film, was fabricated on SiO2 substrates by the combinatorial laser molecular-beam epitaxy method. Photoluminescence (PL) and PL decay were measured for this film library to identify the optimum composition as well as to determine the luminescence mechanism. Results showed that the observed intense emission peak at 615 nm originated from the electric dipole 5D0→7F2 transition of Eu3+. This strong emission makes this red phosphor particularly applicable in devices such as plasma display panels and Xe lamps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
