Isolation of naphthenic acid from model oil using hydroxide based ionic liquid was investigated. A detailed de-acidification study at different temperatures and different ionic liquid/model oil was performed and the content of naphthenic acid before and after extraction was calculated. The ILs containing hydroxide anions has the potential to completely deacidify model oil having high TAN with extremely low ionic liquid /oil ratio.

Developments in Equation of State for gases have enabled estimation of properties of gases with reasonable accuracy. Equation of State for liquid phase is developed in this note to explain dependence of density of liquid on temperature through latent heat vaporization and specific heat of the liquid. The model is validated with data on some common liquids.

In Malaysia, due to its abundance, oil palm is a good candidate to be used as a feedstock for hydrogen production. Oil palm biomass generally consists of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. Steam gasification, coupled with CO2 removal has been shown to be one of the promising methods for hydrogen production. This work focuses on the mathematical modeling of hydrogen production from cellulose via steam gasification and steam gasification with in-situ CO2 capture using CaO. The results are compared and rationalized against published data on steam gasification of pure cellulose and good agreement is observed. The model predicts an increase in hydrogen output from 48 to 56 mol% with the addition of CaO into the system. By increasing temperature and steam/biomass ratio the cold gas efficiency decreases, however, temperature have higher impact compared to steam/biomass ratio.

Synthesis of a novel class of cyclic sulphonium based ionic liquids was performed. The ionic liquids were characterized using 1H NMR spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy and CHNS elemental analysis. The physicochemical properties of the ionic liquids such as density viscosity and thermal decomposition temperature of the synthesized ionic liquids were determined. The potential of these ionic liquids for the extractive desulphurization of model oil was investigated.

The frequent usage of cationic dyes is in the textile and leather industries. However, they are not only utilized during the dying process, but also they are recovered at the end of the process. Hence, the removal of dye from huge quantity of wastewater is necessary. In this paper methylene blue as a cationic dye have been extracted successfully into an ionic liquid namely 1-hexyl-3-methyl-imidazolium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide, abbreviated as [HMIM][TF2N]. To investigate the feasibility of using (IL) to dye removal from aqueous solutions batch experiments were performed under different process conditions like initial dye concentration, pH and temperature. Also adsorption data were analyzed using isotherms models and was found to conform to the principle of Lagmuir model with good correlation coefficients (R2 = 0.9896).

a simulation study of molecule structuring, electrons density polarization (σ-profile) and Henry’s law constant (HLC) have been achieved for three of the dual charge cation ionic liquids (DCCILs) specifically, 1, 4-di-(butyl, hexyl, Octyl)-1, 4-dimethyl-piperazinium using COSMO-RS molecular dynamic software. The electron density chart indicates the ability of the DCCILs to interact with the polar groups (H-bond donor) which was presented the strong peak in (-1.2×10-2) e/Ǻ2. The DCCILs also showed a strong peaks to interact with the non-polar groups which are located at (-0.2×10-2) e/Ǻ2). The screening of the selected anions showed a significant deferens in predicted Henry’s constant values. The BF4-anion presented the greatest HLC values followed by NO3-, Br-PF6-and finally the [octylsulfate]-as lowest HLC values. The increases of DCCILs concentration always use to decrease the HLC values for all presented anions. The outcomes of this work were systematically pointed to the possibility of DCCILS solubility in water. In addition the study identified and classified the selected anions and the cation alkyl chain in terms of their contribution to improve the CO2solubility in DCCILs.
