Dents in an oil and gas pipeline can be detected by In-line-Inspection (ILI), and structure integrity analysis of the pipe with theses reported dents is important for the safe operation. Strain analysis of the dented pipe is a way of fine assessment and ASME B31.8 has established the strain assessment code and its acceptable range. However, the method of strain assessment is rarely used due to the difficulty of strain calculation for a buried pipe. In this study, features of ILI data are investigated to elaborate the necessary of filtering analysis for strain analysis of the dent with ILI data. Then typical filtering methods are used to smooth the ILI data, and strain analysis are carried out with the smoothed data to study the practicability of strain assessment. Profile and strain of a dent in D813 pipe were obtained by Finite Element Method (FEM). Then different filtering methods were used to smooth the simulated ILI data of the dent which were selected from FEM profile. Strain of the dent were also calculated by smoothed data with the latest ASME B31.8 code, and compared with it from FEM at last to prove the feasibility and validity of the filtering methods with ASME B31.8 code.

Recently incidents related to cracking of girth welds in oil and gas pipelines occurred frequently. With highly concentrated stresses, girth weld defects may significantly reduce bearing capacity of pipelines. Many girth weld defects were detected in the in-line inspection and excavated verification. How to assess the severity of these defects to avoid the excessive and unnecessary repair was a technical challenge. Four different kinds of girth weld defects were manufactured in the 32-inch pipeline and full-scale hydrostatic burst testing were carried out to assess the pressure performance of these defects. Many fitness-for-purpose assessment methods were applied to verify the accuracy of experimental results. After the testing, pipelines with failure defects were cut out to carry out the microanalysis. The research results make us understanding the severity of these defects and avoid the excessive and unnecessary repair of these defects to ensure the pipeline safety.

White light interference technique for topography measurement effectively avoids phase ambiguity in phase-shifting interferometry. The spatial frequency domain algorithm based on scanning white light interference technique has the advantage of insensitivity to noise and higher calculation accuracy compared with other methods. The white light interference sensor is constructed based on nano positioning and nano measuring machine (NMM), the calibrated step height standard of 100±3nm is measured. The spatial frequency domain algorithm is adopted for data processing, the repetitive test result of 97.9nm and standard deviation of 0.48nm are achieved. To verify the measuring ability of complex device, the number ‘242’ on ink box is measured and three-dimensional reconstruction is conducted. The high precision and traceable measurements of micro/nano scale step height standard and complex devices are realized by the white light interference system based on NMM with steady frequency laser interferometer built-in.

In this paper a two-dimension BIST compression scheme is presented; the proposed scheme is utilized in order to drive down the number of deterministic vectors to achieve complete fault coverage in BIST applications. By introducing shifting compression and input reduction, vertical and horizontal compression are realized respectively to achieve two-dimension BIST compression. Experimental results show that the BIST shifting compression based on input reduction can achieve great compression rate as much as 99%. Comparisons with previously competitive presented schemes indicate that the proposed scheme provide an efficient BIST compression approach with lower storage overhead.

Hydrological phenomena in nature are always complex processes. Among the studies of hydrology, prediction of runoff from rainfall is a major issue. This is caused by highly nonlinear relationship, variability of spatial and temporal factors (DIMITRI & KHADA, 2003). Additionally, the data for rainfall in long periods tend to be more available than the record of flow (Sajikumar & Thandaveswara, 1999). Therefore, in order to get precise estimates of runoff, rainfall-runoff models are required. This paper describes three types of rainfall-runoff model and the main calibration methods .

This paper presents an improved approach to Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) which concerns don’ t care bits of LUT configuration bits and hence classifies the set of LUTs into SEU-sensitive and SEU-insensitive. Unlike the full TMR approach, the improved approach only triplicates SEU-sensitive LUTs and can greatly reduces the area overhead while maintaining the circuit reliability. The proposed approach is thoroughly tested on the MCNC’91 benchmarks. Compare with the full TMR method the proposed scheme can reduce the area overhead by 26.6% on average, at the same time the circuit reliability only reduced by 9.1 %. The improved approach can also increase mean time between failures (MTBF) by an average of six times more than the original circuit.

The numerical model of the unsteady flow field of ducted propellers is based on CFD (computational fluid dynamics). By applying the numerical model, the unsteady hydrodynamic performance of the ducted propeller with the fracture at different positions of a certain blade is numerically analyzed under three different wake current fields. Based on regress analysis ,the relationships between the mean KQ、mean KT and the quantity of the blade fracture of ducted propellers are obtained; and the relationships between hydrodynamic coefficients Kp, KQ, KFy (Bearing force coefficient of the propeller) and wake current fields , the quantity of the blade fracture are respectively further analyzed. The results show that: (1) with the increase of the quantity of the blade fracture, the amplitude of bearing force periodic variation of propellers increases, while the thrust and torque reduce; (2) the bearing force of propellers is similarly sine-varying, and the frequency of its variation is unrelated to the normal variation frequency of the wake current field. The more non-uniform the wake current field is, the more the amplitude of its periodic variation is; (3) the thrust and torque of propeller are similarly sine-varying, and the frequencies of their variation are related to the normal variation frequency of the wake current field. And the frequencies equal the shaft frequency multiplied the normal variation frequency of the wake current field. The more non-uniform the wake current field is, the more the amplitude of their periodic variation is.

According to test strategy, the experiment of ultrasonic oblique incidence has been done to test bonding strength weakening, the average energy of reflected wave from test points has been taken as signal property to characterise reflection coefficient. The results show that the energy of reflected wave can reflect the extent of bonding strength weakening, can effectively achieve quantitative test of strength weakening.

In order to optimize the hot deformation processing, useful and efficient mathematical models able to evaluate the different aspects of the response of plain carbon steel to hot plastic deformation are among the most important prerequisites. In this paper, a group of mathematical equations were developed according to a series of experiments data to model the austenite grain evolution, static and dynamic recrystallization during-deformation and post-deformation of plain carbon steel. And then those equations were implemented into ABAQUS6.5 (License Agreement Identifier: 27SHANU) using the VUMAT for numerical simulations of cylinder specimen compression.

In hot metal forming processes, the material is subjected to the thermo-mechanical processing. A fully three dimensional thermo-mechanically coupled FEM-simulation of an eleven pass hot rough rolling process of H-beam has been performed. Microstructure evolution equations available in literatures were incorporated into the commercial FE solver ABAQUS/Explicit, through user defined subroutine VUMAT, to simulate the microstructure evolution. Since it’s impractical to obtain the austenite grain size distribution in the beam blank during industrial hot rolling, the calculated rolling loads are compared with the mills loads instead of grain size comparison between the predicted average value and the real ones.

This paper presents a passive method to control low-frequency noise in a cylindrical structure by using multi-modal T-shaped acoustic resonators. The feasibility of noise transmission control on the cylindrical structure is investigated, including a detailed experimental evaluation of the control performance using a single resonator and a resonator array consisted of different resonators. Finally, six long T-shaped acoustic resonators are used to target the first four lowest cylindrical cavity resonances, and up to 9 dB noise reduction is achieved, and broadband improvement of noise reduction is also observed.

Hot rolling is a basic metal forming technique that is used to transform preformed shape into final products of forms more suitable for further processing. As the hot stock progresses through the forming surfaces, the shape eventually reaches a constant state. With the assumption of forming process has reached steady-state condition, a simulation technique based on elements re-meshes has been constructed to analyze the H-beam metal hot roll process. The technique includes the following approaches: the solution was halted as soon as the steady-state criteria were met, and the plane of elements, which first satisfied the steady-state criteria were written to database, SSES for short; a two-dimensional model was created to model the hot stock cooling between the two roll passes and a geometric part was generated and meshed with quadrilateral elements to transfer the nodes temperatures; a new three-dimensional model extruded from the two-dimensional model was constructed to model the next roll pass with the transfer of nodes temperatures and element integration points equivalent plastic strain(PEEQ), identifying the plastic deformation extent for the classical metal plasticity models, from the new two-dimensional model and the first three-dimensional model respectively. Gleeble-1500 tester is used to get the true stress and true plastic strain data for modeling the yield behavior of material Q235. The effectiveness of the simulation technique has been proved by a simulation of 11-pass H-beam rolling process.

In order to improve the reliability of a planet carrier, a simulation method based on multi-objective design optimization was developed in this paper. The objective of the method was to reduce the stress concentration, the deformation, and the quality of the planet carrier by optimizing the structure dimension. A parametric finite element model, which enables a good understanding of how the parameters affect the reliability of planet carrier, was established and simulated by ANSYS-WORKBENCH. The efficiency of the design optimization was improved by using a polynomials response surface to approximate the results of finite element analysis and a screening algorithm to determine the direction of optimization. Furthermore, the multi-objective optimization was capable of finding the global minimum results in the use of the minimum principle on the response surface. Computer simulation was carried out to verify the validity of the presented optimization method, by which the quality and the stability of the planet carrier were significantly reduced and improved, respectively. The methodology described in this paper can be effectively used to improve the reliability of planet carrier.

Effects of coagulation and algae removal was investigated, based on the micro-polluted raw water in the southern China, which was characterized with low-turbidity and high algae-laden. The different removal efficiency by the Ozone, permanganate and Ozone/hydrogen (O3/H2O2) processes was summarized at the pilot study level. The results showed that the pre-oxidation process could enhance the treatment effect. However, compared with the other two processes, the process of O3 was less effective than either permanganate or O3/H2O2 process.

In order to study viscoelastic properties of asphalt mixture, an advanced Shear Rheometer is used. The continuous dynamic frequency scanning test is carried out, which can get full-temperature-full-frequency master curve of asphalt mixture by the time-temperature equivalence principle. The CAM model acts as the rheological model for studying viscoelastic properties of asphalt mixture, because CAM model’s parameters have clear physical meaning. Then viscoelastic properties of asphalt mixture are studied basing on the four equations of CAM model in the full-temperature-full-frequency range.
