The initial-value problem for a particular bidirectional Whitham system modelling surface water waves is under consideration. This system was recently introduced in Dinvay (2018). It is numerically shown to be stable and a good approximation to the incompressible Euler equations. Here we prove local in time well-posedness. Our proof relies on an energy method and a compactness argument. In addition some numerical experiments, supporting the validity of the system as an asymptotic model for water waves, are carried out.

The quasineutral limit of the isothermal Navier–Stokes–Poisson system is rigorously proved when the combined quasineutral and vanishing viscosity limit is considered in a domain with boundary. The convergence of the global weak solution for Navier–Stokes–Poisson system to the strong solution for incompressible Euler equations is obtained.

We consider the two-dimensional incompressible Euler equations. We construct vortex patches with smooth boundary on $T^2$ and $R^2$ whose perimeter grows with time. More precisely, for any constant $M > 0$, we construct a vortex patch in $T^2$ whose smooth boundary has length of order 1 at the initial time such that the perimeter grows up to the given constant $M$ within finite time. The construction is done by cutting a thin stick out of an almost square patch. A similar result holds for an almost round patch with a thin handle in $R^2$., 6 pages, 2 figures

Self-similar solutions are considered to the incompressible Euler equations in , where the similarity variable is defined as , β ≥ 0. It is shown that the scaling exponent is bounded above: β ≤ 1. Requiring |u| 2 < ∞ and allowing more than one length scale, it is found β ϵ [2/5, 1]. This new result on the self-similar singularity is consistent with known analytical results for blow-up conditions.
