Burns are frequent lesions, often leading to serious functional or even life-threatening sequelae. Their care poses a problem in the countries of the South due to the lack of specialized centres. Through this study, we would like to share our experience. This was a descriptive retrospective study carried out over 36 months on 24 patientstreated and followed up in the department for burn sequelae involving a limb. Functional results were classified as excellent, good, fairly good, fair and poor. Aesthetically, they have been categorized into satisfactory, unsatisfactory and poor. We recorded 1480 patients who underwent surgery, 24 of whom were operated on after burns. We noted a female predominance (sex ratio of 1.6) with an average age of 24.2 years (range 16-40). Domestic accidents (n=19) were the main circumstance of occurrence and there was a preponderance of thermal burns by flame (n=21). Twenty people were treated in the first year after burn with excellent, good and fairresultsin 10, 9 and 4 casesrespectively. Burns can cause significant functionalsequelae, the management of which requires specialized nursing staff. Training of caregivers oriented towards burn care without forgetting the related means remains a key element to minimizing the occurrence of these sequelae. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Post-burn leukoderma, commonly affecting the African and Asian communities, results from deep dermal burns. The associated stigma exacerbates the condition and significantly affects the rehabilitation and reintegration of post-burn survivors into society. Melanocyte-keratinocyte transplantation (MKTP) is a promising single-stage treatment for repigmentation in vitiligo. However, its use in post-burn leukoderma is undetermined. This study aims to evaluate the MKTP treatment in post-burn leukoderma patches. Six patients (five males and one female, mean age = 29±5.51 years) with ten patches of post-burn leukoderma underwent single-stage MKTP without adjuvant pigmentation therapy. The postoperative follow-up period ranged from twelve to twenty-four months for all the patients. The average size of leukoderma treated was 16.25±9 cm². Repigmentation was observed in 92.16±11.05% of the total treated area by the end of one year after MKTP application. All six patients were satisfied with the treatment outcome. MKTP without adjuvant therapy is an effective surgical treatment to treat post-burn leukoderma patches. Future studies should cover a larger sample over a longer follow-up period. Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder, affecting 0.5 to 1% of the general population. The association of epilepsy and burns constitutes a real public health problem. The aim of this article is to shed light on the epidemiological and clinical aspects of burned epileptics, the follow-up of their pathology, and the complications noted as well as the multidisciplinarity of their care involving a collaboration of neurologists, plastic surgeons, psychotherapists, physiotherapists and, especially, the entourage that plays a principal and primordial role in the prevention of the triggering of epileptic seizures, especially in places at risk of the occurrence of burn. Most hospitals use protocols for surgical antibioprophylaxis (ABP). Despite SFB's 2009 recommendations promoting ABP in burn patients and stating the molecules to be used, wide variations exist within hospitals and among French hospitals, in cases of skin grafting and use of dermal substitutes. We contacted surgeons in 12 French Burn Centres (BCs) via email and questioned them about ABP in cases of skin grafting (thin and total) as well as in the use of dermal substitutes, in acute and sequelae settings. Eight BCs answered. In the acute phase, 3 BCs (37.5%) always use ABP in skin grafts, 2 (25%) use ABP on suspicion of wound infection and 3 (37.5%) never use ABP. When installing skin substitute, 5 BCs (62.5%) use ABP, one (12.5%) does so if the wound is suspected of being infected and 2 (25%) never use ABP. For sequelae, 5 BCs (62.5%) use ABP whatever the surgery, while 3 (37.5%) never use it. Infection onset after skin graft or use of dermal substitute is frequent. Our study shows wide variations in the use of ABP in these surgeries. A multi-centre evaluation of the implementation of SFB's 2009 recommendations and their role in preventing postoperative infections after skin grafting and skin substitute use, both in acute and sequelae phases, could help harmonize practices in BCs. During a judicial inquiry, the forensic doctor is frequently required to examine the hospitalized fire victim. He has to produce a certificate on the burns, defining their origin, seriousness and prognosis. The expert assessment of serious burn victims consists in an overall evaluation of functional and psychological sequelae, and can be conducted only after the long period of treatment needed for them to heal. The expert must know the forensic rules concerning the specific features of sequelae that follow a cutaneous burn injury. The forensic doctor can intervene where a body is discovered, and the aim of the autopsy is to check if burns were the cause of death. The most common lesions observed are serious thermal burns and they are frequently associated with inhalation of fumes. Often the body is carbonized to conceal a homicide therefore it is crucial that postmortem results are compared with the police investigation data. Due to modifications to the body brought about by fire and charring, a specific protocol for identification is required, especially in the event of a disaster. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
