In this paper, a 1D nonlinear plasma photonic crystal (NPPC) structure composed of polarized ferroelectric crystals and nonlinear plasma periodic alternation is proposed. The transfer matrix method is employed to analyze the second harmonic generation (SHG) problem of this structure. In the designed NPPCs, the fundamental wave (FW) operates in the gigahertz (GHz) band and the nonlinear plasma is controlled by an external high‐intensity control wave (CW). Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the effects of different incident angles and external CW intensities on the total conversion efficiency (T‐con) of the second harmonic wave (SHW). Additionally, the internal electric field distribution and incident light intensity within the nonlinear structure are analyzed. The importance of the relationship between the FW frequency and photonic band gap (PBG) in enhancing SHG is summarized. The results demonstrate that the optimal structure can be obtained by changing the structural parameters, such that the FW and SHW are tuned to the edge of the PBG. At this point, the electromagnetic field density is large, the group velocity is small, the local field is enhanced, and the nonlinear optical interaction is increased, resulting in a significant increase in the T‐con of the SHW. In this paper, an ultra‐wideband chirality selective metastructure absorber is proposed that enables differential absorption and reflection of circularly polarized waves in the terahertz (THz) range. The structure achieves circular dichroism (CD) by using asymmetrically split metal rings as fundamental meta‐atoms. Most critically, the high impedance surface and air‐resonant cavities are inserted separately in the meta‐atoms and dielectric substrate to enhance CD and broaden the bandwidth of absorption. The metastructure absorber can achieve more than 90% absorption of right circularly polarized waves at 0.675–1.244 THz, and it can maintain more than 90% reflection of left circularly polarized waves at 0.607–1.229 THz without changing the direction of rotation. Besides, its CD can reach more than 80% at 0.687–1.213 THz with a relative bandwidth of 55.3%. Spin‐selective absorption, which is closely related to breaking chiral symmetry, is investigated through power loss distribution, wide‐angle incidence, and scan parameter optimization. The proposed strategy is further validated in the THz band, and the polarization selection and manipulation techniques can be applied to chiral sensing/radio‐thermometry, circular polarization detectors/lasers, and molecular spectroscopy. With the tunability of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC), a broadband frequency reconfigurable and versatile metastructure (MS) is proposed and theoretically investigated in this paper, combining circular‐to‐linear (CTL) polarization conversion (PC) and circular‐to‐circular (CTC) PC simultaneously. The MS is composed of two via‐coupled modules, which can respond differently to the incident waves. Each module is connected utilizing a metal via a column, thus exceedingly enhancing the energy transmission and reducing the loss when transmitting. When the applied bias voltage (Vbias) is 0 V, the NCL molecules follow the initial orientation. The MS converts the incident right circular polarized (RCP) waves into linear polarized (LP) waves within 8.11–9.95 gigahertz (GHz) with a relative bandwidth of 20.38% and achieves the PC of left circular polarized (LCP) into RCP waves. As the Vbias reaches 20 V, the original operating interval reconfigures and shifts overall toward a lower frequency. The bandwidth of CTL is 7.66–9.02 GHz, and the CTC PC is broadened to 20.20%. Meanwhile, the structure justification is verified, and the inducing mechanism of PC is expounded. Possessing the merits of versatile collaborative processing and wide operating bands, such an MS is promising to be a polarization‐controlled application candidate and enrich multifunctional designs. Based on a spherical coordinate system and Maxwell's set of equations, the calculation formulas of one‐dimensional (1‐D) magnetized ferrite spherical photonic crystals (MFSPCs) are obtained and treated with the solution method of the spherical Bessel equations. Combined with the conventional transmission matrix method, expressions for the absorptance, reflectance, and transmittance of the 1‐D MFSPCs are given. 1‐D MFSPCs consisting of the general dielectric and Yttrium iron garnet (YIG) are also designed to verify the correctness of the conclusions. Variables such as external magnetic field, incidence angle, initial radius, and YIG thickness effects on the features of such 1‐D MFSPCs are also discussed. The transformation of the external magnetic field has a linear relationship with the position of the absorption band (AB). The three variables of incidence angle, initial radius, and YIG thickness have a substantial influence on the width and position of the AB, which can be adjusted according to the actual demand and are of high application significance. A Germanium (Ge) metastructure with switching features from broadband plasmon‐induced transparency (PIT) and electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) is presented, which forms a broadband PIT through the near‐field coupling between the localized plasmon resonance and the Mie resonance employing four gold cut wires as bright plasmon resonators and four C‐shaped dielectric rings as dark plasmon resonators. A wide transparent window above 0.9 is achieved covering from 0.622 to 0.823 THz with a relative bandwidth of 27.8%. In addition, through phase modulation, a magnetic dipole is generated by the constructive interference of the near‐field coupling of the three resonators to realize the PIT to EIA conversion. In addition, a grid‐like metastructure is introduced to realize the PIT to EIA conversion by phase modulation. To enhance the EIA bandwidth, another layer of C‐shaped reflection plate resonator is introduced to increase the dark mode loss, and a layer of frequency selective surface composed of cross‐shaped resonators is also used. Thus under the dual effect, a wide absorption window above 0.75 is achieved covering from 0.647 to 0.756 THz with a relative bandwidth of 15.5%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Superior analogs for electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and absorption (EIA) in metasurfaces (MSS) are universal, but fewer integrate both effects in one device, let alone contribute to polarization manipulations. Here, note that asymmetrical EITs are rigorously demonstrated under both polarization incidences in dielectric orthogonal dumbbell‐shaped structures, with a maximum group delay of 335 ps. The transverse magnetic (TM) mode excited EIT holds a transparent window at 1.318 THz close to the transverse electric (TE) mode excited that of 1.358 THz, which triggers the linear‐to‐circular polarization conversion at 1.339 THz with an optimized transmittance of 0.67, validated via the axial ratio. Additionally, asymmetrical EIAs are presented with an embedded metal‐phase VO2 plate, holding a common absorption of 0.51 at 1.340 THz, of which the insulating state affects little to the circular‐polarization output. Given the detuning of two frequencies (1.339 and 1.340 THz) can be compensated by the dispersion properties, it can be understood as the original converted circularly polarized propagating light decays with 0.5‐absorption via phase‐tuned VO2, operating as a temperature‐driven switch. The circular‐polarization transmission and absorption are integrated respectively based on EIT and EIA with the different states of VO2, promising broad prospects in multifunctional devices.
