Consequently, a total of 461 high-risk crossbreed beef calves, received on three different dates, were examined upon arrival at the feedlot. Of these, 320 calves (148.3 ± 1.3 kg body weight) whose "clinical health" was evaluated were included in the study. Blood samples were taken upon arrival and on days 14, 28, 42, and 56 to determine the following parameters: enzymic activity, metabolites, electrolytes, white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells. Enzymic activity, metabolites, and complete blood count were determined by automated analyzers. The freeware Reference Value Advisor Software was used to calculate the non-parametric values of RIs. Simple Summary: Enhancing the energy density of lamb diets is a proven method to improve their productivity. While using carbohydrates for this purpose may seem intuitive, it can lead to undesirable shifts in ruminal metabolism, potentially triggering metabolic diseases. Hence, substituting carbohydrates with lipids is favored. Nevertheless, lipids, though effective, can also disrupt ruminal fermentation parameters. Among these lipids, soybean oil stands out for its positive impact on both beef and dairy cattle, leading to improved performance. In our study, we sought to assess the effects of soybean oil supplementation on performance, digestibility, feeding behaviour, and blood metabolites of feedlot lambs. Our findings indicate that the inclusion of soybean oil resulted in a linear reduction in nutrient intake, consequently lowering the average daily gain of the lambs. Additionally, soybean oil supplementation induced selective feeding behaviour among the lambs. Based on our observations, we recommend incorporating soybean oil into lamb diets at a maximum inclusion rate of 41 g/kg DM to optimize production parameters. The strategy implemented to adapt lambs to increasing levels of high-fat diet mitigated the detrimental effects of lipids on the rumen, with high-density energy intake being the constraining factor on performance. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the effects of soybean oil inclusion in diets on feeding behaviour, digestibility, performance, and blood metabolites of feedlot lambs. Forty non-castrated Santa Inês lambs with a mean age of 5 months and initial body weight of 34.88 ± 3.19 kg were used in a 40-day feeding trial. The lambs were distributed in five experimental diets with the inclusion of increasing soybean oil (SO) levels: 0, 30, 60, 90, and 120 g/kg DM. The SO inclusion promoted a linear reduction in DM intake (p < 0.001), crude protein (CP, p < 0.001), non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC, p < 0.001), and total digestible nutrients (TDN, p = 0.004). There was an increasing quadratic effect on the intake of ether extract (EE; p = 0.002) and decreasing for neutral detergent fiber (p = 0.005). The soybean oil inclusion promoted the greater apparent digestibility of CP (p = 0.016), EE (p = 0.005), NDFom (p < 0.001), and TDN (p < 0.001); on the other hand, the apparent digestibility of NFC (p = 0.005) was decreased. The average daily gain decreased (p < 0.001) with SO inclusion. The SO inclusion increased feeding time (p = 0.004), reduced the efficiency of DM rumination (p = 0.001), and reduced the concentration of blood N-ureic (p < 0.001). Considering the productive parameters, SO can be included in diets and it is recommended that we include SO of up to 41 g/kg DM in diets for fattening lambs as the ideal maximum level. Despite extensive research, detailed disease pathophysiology and the differences between MEA and SEA are still not completely understood. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cytology, broadly used in clinical practice and in equine asthma research, has limited means to represent the inflammatory status in the lower airways. Lipidomics is a field of science that can be utilized in investigating cellular mechanisms and cell-to-cell interactions. Studies in lipidomics have a broad variety of foci, of which fatty acid and lipid mediator profile analyses and global lipidomics have been implemented in veterinary medicine. As many crucial proinflammatory and proresolving mediators are lipids, lipidomic studies offer an interesting yet largely unexplored means to investigate inflammatory reactions in equine airways. Simple Summary: Mineral oil hydrocarbons are a group of lipid pollutants for which concern has been raised because of different contamination scandals in products intended for human consumption, such as Ukrainian sunflower oil (2007/2008) and chocolate (2018). These contaminants may pose different toxicological risks for humans depending on their structure (e.g., saturated or aromatic) and, therefore, their assessment in food represents a relevant scientific target. This study evaluated mineral oil contamination in different lipid sources used to supplement pig feeds, the final levels of those feeds, and the ability of pigs to accumulate mineral oils in two different tissues that might affect human exposure (i.e., back fat and loin). The results showed that pigs accumulated saturated mineral oils but not aromatic ones and that the deposition was higher in back fat than in loin. The levels of saturated mineral oils in back fat reflected the levels of these contaminants in the corresponding feed, which mainly came from two unknown contamination sources other than the lipid source added. Therefore, identifying and controlling these sources may help prevent high concentrations of saturated mineral oils in pig back fat. This study assessed saturated mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH) and aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH) levels in grower–finisher feeds for pigs supplemented with 5% crude palm oil (CP), crude olive pomace oil (COP), olive pomace acid oil (OPA), or a blend of CP and OPA (50:50, w/w); the contribution of the lipid source to that contamination; and the ability of pigs to accumulate MOH in back fat and loin tissues after 60 days of trial. MOSH and MOAH were analyzed with liquid chromatography (LC)–gas chromatography (GC)–flame ionization detection (FID) after sample preparation. Among the lipid sources, CP had the lowest MOH levels, but CP feeds showed the highest contamination. This, along with the different MOSH profiles, indicated the presence of more significant contamination sources in the feeds than the lipid source. The higher MOH contamination in CP feeds was reflected in the highest MOSH levels in pig back fat, whereas MOAH were not detected in animal tissues. Also, MOSH bioaccumulation in pig tissues was influenced by the carbon chain length. Simple Summary: We hypothesised a positive effect of adding raspberry seed oil into the feed of purebred Termond White rabbits on slaughter performance traits, plasma lipid concentration and meat quality. In each group, the experimental animals were fed a complete pelleted feed. Rabbits in the first experimental group received a feed ration enriched with a 1% addition of raspberry seed oil, while rabbits in the second experimental group were given a 2% addition of the same oil. The addition of this oil did not significantly affect the slaughter performance traits of the rabbits. It also did not significantly affect the fat content, shear force, hardness, springiness, cohesiveness or chewiness of the meat obtained from the rabbits' longissimus lumborum muscle. However, the addition of raspberry seed oil significantly reduced the levels of tetradecenoic acid and trans-palmitoleic acid. An increase in the linoleic acid content of rabbit meat was also observed. This study showed that feeding pellets containing an oil supplement with a high content of unsaturated fatty acids had a positive effect on rabbits' plasma lipid levels. The addition of raspberry seed oil might lead to an effective reduction in cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rabbits' blood. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of raspberry seed oil on the slaughter performance traits, plasma lipid concentration and meat quality of purebred Termond White rabbits (n = 42; 18♂, 24♀). In each group (3 × n = 14; 6♂, 8♀), the experimental animals were fed a complete pelleted feed with constant access to drinking water. Simple Summary: Anthropogenic pollution poses a major threat to aquatic ecosystems, which can lead to their degradation. The accumulation and toxicity of metals and trace elements in fish leads to physiological and chemical changes in the fish body. In this study, we investigated the effects of bioaccumulation of metals and trace elements on freshwater fish fatty acid profiles at two different sites before and after the discharge of untreated municipal wastewater in two fish species with different diet habits. Although the concentrations of toxic elements were below the maximum levels proposed by the EU and the Republic of Serbia, this study showed statistically significant correlations between the presence of certain elements and the fatty acid (FA) profile in fish muscle. Lower concentrations of polyunsaturated FA in fish sampled after the discharge of untreated municipal wastewater were detected. In this study, the concentrations of metals and trace elements (As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb and Zn) were determined in the muscle tissue of adult roach and white bream at two different sites in the Belgrade section of the Danube. Twenty-six fatty acids, consisting of nine saturated FA (SFAs), seven monosaturated FA (MUFAs) and ten polysaturated FA (PUFAs), were identified. The analysis of the concentration of metals and trace elements of the roach and white bream showed species-specific differences in their bioaccumulation. Four of all elements analyzed (As, Hg, Ni and Pb) correlated significantly with the changes in FA profiles in fish from both sampling sites, with the exception of Cu, which correlated with the FA profile at the site before, and Zn, whose concentration influenced the FA profile at the site after wastewater discharges. The lower PUFA content in the fish from a site under higher environment pressure could indicate that the fish are stressed. Simple Summary: Yellow mealworm is considered as one of the most promising protein sources for replacing fish meal in aquafeeds, among other things because is rich in protein, a good source of micronutrients and exhibits low carbon footprint and land usage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of substituting partial plant or marine-derived ingredients with full-fat yellow mealworm meal at two different levels on the growth performance and fatty acid profiles of Senegalese sole. For this purpose, the study tested a control diet and four experimental diets. Two of the experimental diets substituted marine-derived ingredients for insect meal at two levels (5 and 10%), while the other two substituted components of vegetable origin for insect meal (10 and 15%). The addition of insect meal resulted in an increase in growth rate in both cases, whether replacing fish or plant meals. This led to a decrease in muscle total lipid while maintaining the relative levels of n-3 PUFA and DHA, ultimately improving the lipid health indices n-3: n-6. Tenebrio molitor (TM) is considered as one of the most promising protein sources for replacing fish meal in aquafeeds, among other things because it is rich in protein, a good source of micronutrients and has a low carbon footprint and land use. However, the main drawback of TM is its fatty acid profile, in particular its low content of n-3 PUFA. This study evaluates the effects of partially replacing plant or marine-derived with full-fat TM meal at two different levels on growth performance and lipid profiles of Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis). For this purpose, a control diet (CTRL) and four experimental isoproteic (53%) and isolipidic (16%) diets were formulated containing 5 and 10% TM meal replacing mostly fish meal (FM5 and FM10), or 10 and 15% TM meal replacing mostly plant meal (PP10 and PP15). Fish (215 g) were fed at 1% of their body weight for 98 days. The final body weight of fish fed the experimental diets containing TM meal was not different from that of fish fed the CTRL diet (289 g). However, the inclusion of TM meal resulted in a gradual improvement in growth rate and feed efficiency in both cases (replacement of fish or plant meals), and significant differences in specific growth rate (SGR) were observed between fish fed the CTRL diet (SGR = 0.30% day−1) and those fed diets with the highest TM meal content (PP15; SGR = 0.35% day−1). The experimental groups did not show any differences in the protein content of the muscle (19.6% w/w). However, significant differences were observed in the total lipid content of the muscle, with the FM10, PP10, and PP15 groups having the lowest muscle lipid contents (2.2% ww). These fish also showed the lowest neutral lipid content in muscle (6.6% dw), but no differences were observed in the total phospholipid content (2.6% dw). Regarding the fatty acid profile, fish fed FM10, PP10 and PP15 had lower levels of linoleic acid (18:2n-6) and higher levels of oleic acid (18:1n-9) in liver and muscle compared to fish fed CTRL. However, no differences were found between fish fed CTRL and TM-based diets for docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3) and total n-3 PUFA in liver and muscle. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that full-fat TM inclusion up to 15% in S. senegalensis diets had no negative effects or even some positive effects on fish survival, growth performance, nutrient utilization and flesh quality. Simple Summary: This study was conducted to investigate the health benefits of incorporating brown macroalgae into the diets of young piglets. Different amounts of macroalgae were added to piglet feed, and the effects on their digestion and health were observed. This study explores the effects of dietary brown macroalgae (Ascophyllum nodosum) inclusion on digestibility and blood biochemical indices and redox markers in piglets fed diets with varying levels (0%, 0.6% and 1%) of macroalgae from 18 to 64 days of age. Macroalgae significantly influenced lipid profiles, reducing total cholesterol levels (quadratic contrast p = 0.001) and demonstrating an increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, particularly with 1% macroalgae inclusion (linear contrast p < 0.001), with a decrease in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in both macroalgae-supplemented groups (linear contrast p = 0.001). Additionally, macroalgae had a positive impact on the activities of antioxidative enzymes (ferric-reducing ability of plasma, superoxide dismutase, reduced glutathione) and reduced lipid peroxidation products (lipid hydroperoxide, malondialdehyde) in the blood, liver tissue, and intestinal epithelium of the ileum, suggesting enhanced antioxidative defense mechanisms. These changes were dose-dependent; in blood plasma, they exhibited both a linear and quadratic response, while in the tissues, the response was primarily linear. Additionally, an increase in the digestibility of crude fat in macroalgae-supplemented groups was observed (linear contrast p < 0.001), highlighting their potential role in improving nutrient absorption and digestion. Simple Summary: The effect of Scalarpin 2 (STC2) on chicken hepatic lipid metabolism is still unknown. In this study, we found that genetic variation rs9949205 occurring in the STC2 was significantly associated with chicken body weight at different weeks and carcass traits. The inhibitory effect of STC2 on lipid synthesis in LMH cells was observed, and its expression level in muscle showed a significant association with 176 lipids, predominantly enriched in essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The evidence suggests that STC2 involved growth and development, as well as lipid metabolism in chickens. Stanniocalcin 2 (STC2) is a secreted glycoprotein involved in multiple biological processes. To systemically study the biological role of STC2 in chickens, phylogenetic tree analysis and conservation analysis were conducted. Association analysis between variations in the STC2 gene and the economic traits of Gushi-Anka F2 was conducted. The tissue expression patterns of STC2 expression in different chicken tissues and liver at different stages were detected. The biological role of STC2 in chicken liver was investigated through overexpression and interfering methods in the LMH cell line. Correlation analyses between STC2 expression and lipid components were conducted. (1) The phylogenetic tree displayed that chicken STC2 is most closely related with Japanese quail and most distantly related with Xenopus tropicalis. STC2 has the same identical conserved motifs as other species. (2) rs9949205 (T > C) found in STC2 intron was highly significantly correlated with chicken body weight at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks (p < 0.01). Extremely significant correlations of rs9949205 with semi-evisceration weight (SEW), evisceration weight (EW), breast muscle weight (BMW), leg muscle weight (LMW), liver weight and abdominal fat weight (AFW) were revealed (p < 0.01). Significant associations between rs9949205 and abdominal fat percentage, liver weight rate, breast muscle weight rate and leg muscle weight rate were also found (p < 0.05). Individuals with TT or TC genotypes had significantly lower abdominal fat percentage and liver weight rate compared to those with the CC genotype, while their body weight and other carcass traits were higher. (3) STC2 showed a high expression level in chicken liver tissue, which significantly increased with the progression of age (p < 0.05). STC2 was observed to inhibit the content of lipid droplets, triglycerides (TG) and cholesterol (TC), as well the expression level of genes related to lipid metabolism in LMH cells. (4) Correlation analysis showed that the STC2 gene was significantly correlated with 176 lipids in the breast muscle (p < 0.05) and mainly enriched in omega-3 and omega-6 unsaturated fatty acids. In conclusion, the STC2 gene in chicken might potentially play a crucial role in chicken growth and development, as well as liver lipid metabolism and muscle lipid deposition. Simple Summary: The production of artificially farmed bullfrogs in China is limited by the low metamorphosis rate of tadpoles. This study investigated the effects of different doses (0 g/kg, 1.5 g/kg, 3 g/kg, 4.5 g/kg, and 6 g/kg) of thyroid powder added to the diets on the metamorphosis and growth of bullfrog tadpoles. The results showed that 4.5 g/kg of thyroid powder could significantly increase the metamorphosis rate and weight gain rate of tadpoles, while adding 6 g/kg of thyroid powder could increase the average weight of tadpoles during metamorphosis. In addition, both doses of thyroid powder could promote the fat breakdown metabolism of tadpoles and alter the intestinal microbiota composition (increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria, especially Akkermansia). In summary, appropriate doses of thyroid powder could promote the metamorphosis and growth of tadpoles, and might be used to solve the problem of the low metamorphosis rate of bullfrogs. A low metamorphosis rate of amphibian larvae, commonly known as tadpoles, limits the farming production of bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeiana). This study aimed to examine the effects of processed thyroid powder as a feed additive on tadpole metamorphosis, lipid metabolism, and gut microbiota. Five groups of tadpoles were fed with diets containing 0 g/kg (TH0), 1.5 g/kg (TH1.5), 3 g/kg (TH3), 4.5 g/kg (TH4.5), and 6 g/kg (TH6) thyroid powder for 70 days. The results showed that TH increased the average weight of tadpoles during metamorphosis, with the TH6 group having the highest values. The TH4.5 group had the highest metamorphosis rate (p < 0.05). Biochemical tests and Oil Red O staining showed that the lipid (triglyceride) content in the liver decreased after TH supplementation, especially at doses higher than 1.5 g/kg. RT-qPCR revealed that TH at doses higher than 4.5 g/kg significantly up-regulated the transcriptional expression of the pparα, accb, fas, fadd6, acadl, and lcat genes, which are related to lipid metabolism (p < 0.05). These results showed that TH seems to simultaneously promote the synthesis and decomposition of lipid and fatty acids, but ultimately show a decrease in lipids. As for the gut microbiota, it is noteworthy that Verrucomicrobia increased significantly in the TH4.5 and TH6 groups, and the Akkermansia (classified as Verrucomicrobia) was the corresponding genus, which is related to lipid metabolism. Specifically, the metabolic pathways of the gut microbiota were mainly enriched in metabolic-related functions (such as lipid metabolism), and there were significant differences in metabolic and immune pathways between the TH4.5 and TH0 groups (p < 0.05). In summary, TH may enhance lipid metabolism by modulating the gut microbiota (especially Akkermansia), thereby promoting the growth of tadpoles. Simple Summary: Plant-origin supplements are safe dietary ingredients that improve the growth, digestion and stress tolerance of farmed fish and also contribute to the safety of natural ecosystems and the sustainability of aquaculture. These compounds appear to accelerate the tolerance of fish to environmental stressors, which are numerous in fish production, and improve the quality of fish products, a good source of dietary protein and lipids in the human diet. When none of the environmental factors disturbed the growth of the trout, triacylglycerols with a lower unsaturation index of the fatty acid moiety were mainly stored in both the liver and muscle, irrespective of the dietary supplement. However, fish fed the supplement were more tolerant to the summer temperature rise, demonstrating a lower mortality rate, better performance, stable lipid accumulation and a higher ratio of n-3 to n-6 unsaturated fatty acids. Thus, when used prophylactically, this dietary supplement is beneficial, both for the tolerance of fish to environmental stressors and for the lipid composition of fish fillets intended for human consumption. Reared rainbow trout are vulnerable to environmental stressors, in particular seasonal water warming, which affects fish welfare and growth and induces a temperature response, which involves modifications in tissue lipid profiles. Dietary supplements of plant origin, including the studied mix of a flavonoid, dihydroquercetin and a polysaccharide, arabinogalactan (25 and 50 mg per 1 kg of feed, respectively), extracted from larch wood waste, were shown to facilitate stress tolerance in fish and also to be beneficial for the safety of natural ecosystems and the sustainability of aquaculture production. This four-month feeding trial aimed to determine the effects of the supplement on liver and muscle lipid accumulation and the composition in rainbow trout reared under environmental variables. During periods of environmental optimum for trout, a consistent increase in energy lipid stores, particularly triacylglycerols (2.18 vs. 1.49-fold over a growing season), and an overall increase in lipid saturation due to lower levels of PUFAs, such as eicosapentaenoic (20:5n-3), docosahexaenoic (22:6n-3) and arachidonic (20:4n-6) acids, were observed in both control and supplement-fed fish, respectively. However, in fish stressed by an increase in ambient temperature, dietary supplementation with dihydroquercetin and arabinogalactan reduced mortality (3.65 in control vs. 2.88% in supplement-fed fish, p < 0.05) and alleviated the high-temperature-induced inhibition of lipid accumulation. It also stabilised the membrane phospholipid ratio and moderated the fatty acid composition of fish muscle and liver, resulting in higher levels of n-3 PUFAs and their precursors. Thus, the natural compounds tested are beneficial in accelerating fish tolerance to environmental stressors, reducing mortality and thermal response, and moderately improving fillet quality attributes by increasing the protein/lipid ratio and the abundance of fatty acids essential for human nutrition. Simple Summary: In this study, we investigated the effects of adding soybean oligosaccharides (SBOS) to growing–finishing pig diets on growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and fat deposition. SBOS are considered to be one of the causes of diarrhea in piglets. However, their impact on growing and fattening pigs has not been reported. The results of this study showed that adding 0.8% SBOS to the diet of growing–finishing pigs can increase the average daily weight gain. Hindgut fermentation of SBOS, which alters the composition of short-chain fatty acids, was the mechanism behind the reduction in fat deposition in growing–finishing pigs. One hundred and twenty-eight boars and gilts of the Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire variety with an initial body weight (BW) of 52.49 ± 0.48 kg were used in a randomized complete block design for a 63-day experiment. The four treatment groups were: control diet (CON), CON + 0.2% soybean oligosaccharides (SBOS), CON + 0.4% SBOS, and CON + 0.8% SBOS. The results showed that the average daily weight gain (ADG) was significantly higher in the 0.8% SBOS group than in the CON group on days 0–63 (p < 0.05). Compared with the CON group, adding 0.8% SBOS to the diet significantly increased the carcass weight, dressing percentage, and carcass lean percentage, but decreased the average backfat depth of growing–finishing pigs (p < 0.05). Adding different concentrations (0.2%, 0.4%, and 0.8%) of SBOS to the diet can significantly increase the concentrations of acetate, propionate, and butyrate in feces (p < 0.05). Simple Summary: Probiotics can be used in pigs fattening as a partial or full alternative to antibiotic growth promoters. Their composition and the dosage used in the feed must not impair the nutritional value of the meat raw materials obtained from them. The use of the probiotic preparation Bokashi (containing specific strains of Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast) as a feed additive in fattening pigs resulted in significant changes in meat and backfat fatty acid profiles and the lipid indexes calculated from them. The experimental group's pigs received probiotics in their feed (containing Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus plantarum). To analyze the fatty acid profile in intramuscular fat (IMF) of LL and backfat, 24 pig carcasses from the control group and 26 from the probiotic-supplemented group were randomly selected. Probiotic supplementation increased the Atherogenic Index, reduced the proportion of C20:4, and increased C12:0 and C18:2 n-6 in IMF LL, without affecting ΣSFA, ΣMUFA, and ΣPUFA. In backfat, probiotic supplementation decreased C18:1 and C18:2 n-6 proportion and increased C18:3 n-3, C20:3 n-6, and C20:4 n-6. These changes resulted in significantly higher ΣMUFA, ΣPUFA, PUFA Σn-3/Σn-6, and lower Saturation Index (SI). However, specific cytokine or lipid markers, or their role during stages of the cycle and when they are needed to provide optimal follicular maturation, have not been elucidated. The current study investigated the relationship between circulating and follicular fluid lipids and cytokines during an estrous cycle and after follicular stimulation with follicle-stimulating hormone. The identification of specific cytokines and lipids present at different stages of the reproductive cycle in circulation and the follicular fluid of the dominant follicle provides a springboard to study the mitigation of poor follicle maturation or anovulation. Future studies can also utilize the markers developed within this study to determine their role during follicular maturation. The process of follicle maturation leading to ovulation is a key milestone in female fertility. It is known that circulating lipids and cytokines play a role in the follicle's ability to go through follicular maturation and the ovulatory processes. However, the specific mechanisms are not well understood. We posit that dysregulation of granulosa cells influences the ovarian environment, which tries to adapt by changing released lipids and cytokines to achieve follicular maturation. Eleven non-lactating adult females underwent estrus synchronization with two injections of PGF2α 14 days apart. Daily blood samples were collected for 28 days to monitor steroid hormone production after the second injection. To understand the potential impacts of lipids and cytokines during ovulation, a low-dose FSH stimulation (FSHLow) was performed after resynchronization of cows, and daily blood samples were collected for 14 days to monitor steroid hormone production until ovariectomies. The trial lasted for 28 days; blood and intestinal tissue samples were collected. The results showed that the crude fat digestibility of the FPRO group was higher than that of the SO and CPRO groups (p < 0.05). The FPRO group also had higher digestibility of dry matter, ash, and gross energy than the SO group (p < 0.05); compared to the SO group, the serum interlukin-6 (IL-6) concentration was decreased. Interestingly, the FPRO and CPRO groups had higher villus height than the SO group in the jejunum and ileum, respectively (p < 0.05). Moreover, the FPRO group had higher Lactobacillus abundance than the SO group in the colon and cecum (p < 0.05). Importantly, the expression levels of tight junction protein ZO-1, Claudin-1, and Occludin in the duodenal and ileal mucosa were higher in the FPRO group than in the SO and CPRO groups (p < 0.05). Simple Summary: Cancer cells usually have a short timeframe for proliferation, which favors tumor growth. Therefore, they require more energy and intermediates to sustain biosynthetic pathways that will supply all the requirements for cell division. This event is known as metabolic reprogramming and is described in all cancer types, it also being a vulnerability for therapy. However, metabolic alterations in canine mammary tumors are poorly explored. In this review, we compile the metabolic rewiring described in canine mammary tumors, which could be used as a therapeutic opportunity for treatment in veterinary oncology. Canine mammary tumors (CMTs) are among the most common diseases in female dogs and share similarities with human breast cancer, which makes these animals a model for comparative oncology studies. In these tumors, metabolic reprogramming is known as a hallmark of carcinogenesis whereby cells undergo adjustments to meet the high bioenergetic and biosynthetic demands of rapidly proliferating cells. However, such alterations are also vulnerabilities that may serve as a therapeutic strategy, which has mostly been tested in human clinical trials but is poorly explored in CMTs. In this dedicated review, we compiled the metabolic changes described for CMTs, emphasizing the metabolism of carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, and mitochondrial functions. We observed key factors associated with the presence and aggressiveness of CMTs, such as an increase in glucose uptake followed by enhanced anaerobic glycolysis via the upregulation of glycolytic enzymes, changes in glutamine catabolism due to the overexpression of glutaminases, increased fatty acid oxidation, and distinct effects depending on lipid saturation, in addition to mitochondrial DNA, which is a hotspot for mutations. However, few studies have explored the effects of taurine intake on gastropod species' growth performance and other physiological metabolism. The present study evaluates the effects of different taurine supplementation levels (0.0% as control, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%, and 3.0%) on the growth performance, lipid composition, and antioxidant ability of juvenile ivory shells Babylonia areolata and obtains the optimum concentration of taurine for ivory shell culture. The results showed that (1) moderate taurine supplementation in an artificial diet (about 1.5–2.0%) could significantly improve the growth performance and antioxidant ability of ivory shells; (2) taurine supplementation could change the lipid composition of juvenile ivory shells; and (3) taurine supplementation could increase the expression of orexin and Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and inhibit the expression of leptin and cholecyatoklnin. In this study, an eight-week feeding trial was performed to investigate the effects of different taurine supplementation levels (0.0% as control, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5%, and 3.0%) on the growth performance, lipid composition, and antioxidant ability in juvenile ivory shells Babylonia areolata. The results showed that taurine supplementation significantly improved the specific growth rates (SGRs) and survival rates of ivory shell (except the survival rate in the 3.0% taurine diet group) (p < 0.05). The SGRs showed an increasing and then decreasing tendency with increasing dietary taurine supplementation, and the highest value was observed in the 2.0% taurine diet (2.60%/d). The taurine content in the muscle of ivory shells fed taurine-supplemented diets significantly increased when compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The profiles of C22:2n6 in the muscle of ivory shells fed taurine-supplemented diets were significantly higher than in the control group (p < 0.05), and the highest values were observed in the 2.0% taurine supplementation group. The high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) content in the hepatopancreas showed an increasing and then decreasing tendency with increasing dietary taurine supplementation, while the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentration showed a decreasing tendency. Furthermore, the activities of pepsin and lipase in both the intestine and hepatopancreas significantly increased at moderate taurine supplementation levels compared to the control group (p < 0.05). Accordingly, obvious increases in the histological parameters in the intestine of ivory shells fed taurine-supplemented diets were also found. Simple Summary: The mobilization of lipids from adipose tissue increases fatty acids and ketone bodies levels. The β-hydroxybutyrate is the main ketone body used to diagnose ketosis, a metabolic disorder of the transition period, in ruminants. Nevertheless, a specific cut-off for the ketosis of β-hydroxybutyrate in buffaloes and the plasma lipid fractions related to ketone bodies have not been established. The relative concentrations of not only total plasma lipids but also lipid fractions such as phospholipids, free fatty acids, triglycerides, and cholesterol esters are influenced by the mobilization of lipids. Each of these fractions has a different role in animal metabolism, influencing energy redistribution and cell metabolism and function. The present study reveals the relationship between lipid fractions and changes in metabolism and inflammation that is related to variations in lipid classes according to different levels of energy deficits in the early lactation of Mediterranean buffaloes. Serum β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) levels were used to group the animals into a healthy group (Group H; n = 38; BHB < 0.70 mmol/L) and hyperketonemia risk group (Group K; n = 25; BHB ≥ 0.70 mmol/L). Statistical analysis was performed using a linear model that included the effect of the group and body condition score to assess differences in fatty acid (FA) concentrations. A total of 40 plasma FAs were assessed in each lipid class. Simple Summary: Different sources of oils have unique characteristics, such as fatty acids and phenolic compounds. Different compounds in oils have different antioxidant capacities, and their inclusion in the diet would influence the antioxidant system in poultry. In comparing dietary supplementation of palm oils (crude palm oil, red palm oil, refined palm oil), palm kernel oil and soybean oil in laying hens, we found that palm oils with high antioxidant content had a lower production of antioxidant enzymes in the intestinal mucosa, serum and liver. We suggest that the inclusion of oils with high antioxidant content, such as crude palm oil and red palm oil, provides better protection through reduction in oxidation. Palm-based oils (palm oil and kernel oil) and soybean oil have unique fatty acid and antioxidant profiles based on the compounds present in them. Hence, this study elucidated the antioxidant properties of crude palm oil (CPO), red palm oil (RPO), refined palm oil (RBD), palm kernel oil (PKO) and soybean oil (SBO) and the influence of dietary oils on blood lipid profiles, tissue fatty acid deposition and the expression of hepatic lipid and lipoprotein metabolism genes in laying hens. Dietary supplementation with palm oils, particularly CPO and RPO, contributed to the lower liver, serum and jejunal mucosal antioxidant enzyme activities. Simple Summary: The aim of this study was to develop feed using organic waste to increase the lipid content of the super mealworm Zophobas morio larvae (ZML). Feed prepared from fermented food waste (FFW) using three microorganism species was found to be suitable for increasing the lipid content of ZML. These results revealed that feed made from FFW is an environmentally friendly and economical feed suitable for breeding ZML for biodiesel production. Super mealworm Zophobas morio (Coleoptera: Tenbrionidea) larvae (ZML) are being investigated as potential candidates for biodiesel production. Several studies have revealed that the crude fat content of ZML can be enhanced by increasing the feed consumed. We aimed to develop an optimized ZML feed that enhances the lipid gain using 10 different ingredients. The results revealed that the highest lipid content was observed in ZML fed food waste (FW). Furthermore, we found that the weight gain of ZML improved when fed fermented FW using three selected microorganisms (3M), Lactobacillus fermentum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Pediococcus acidilactici. We also analyzed the effects of preservatives on the weight gain of ZML, and the results revealed that ZML fed 5-day 3M-fermented FW (FFW) containing 0.05% sorbic acid exhibited the highest weight gain. Based on these findings, we produced solid FFW containing 0.05% sorbic acid using 5% agar and established a manufacturing process. Body composition analysis revealed that the lipid content of the ZML fed manufactured feed was higher than that of the ZML fed wheat bran. Therefore, this study suggests that solid FFW containing 0.05% sorbic acid should be used as a commercial feed for ZML breeding to enhance lipid gain, making it an economical substrate for raw biodiesel production. ANBBLCs up to 150 mg/kg can be used as an efficient new feed additive to increase growth performance, carcass criteria, antioxidant status, as well as the antibacterial activity of growing rabbits under hot climatic conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of dietary Acacia nilotica bark bioactive lipid compounds (ANBBLCs) as novel feed additives on the growth performance, carcass criteria, antioxidants, and antimicrobial activities of growing male rabbits. A total of 100 California male weanling rabbits aged 35 days were divided into four nutritional treatments, each of which contained ANBBLCs at concentrations of 0 (control group), 50, 100, and 150 mg/kg diet (n = 25 per treatment, each replication consisting of one animal). The average body weight of the animals was 613 ± 14 g. The experiments lasted for 56 days. Dietary ANBBLC levels linearly improved (p < 0.05) the body weight, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of rabbits. Furthermore, with increasing concentrations of ANBBLCs, the total antioxidant capacity of blood and liver tissue was linearly (p < 0.05) enhanced. Simple Summary: The digestibility of ingredients in fish diets must be known to use the least-cost feed formulation. However, there is very little published information on lipid (fat) digestibility in fish. With this information, commercial feed producers can choose lipids based on high utilization by the fish, as well as cost. We conducted a feeding trial with catfish fed diets with different lipids: soybean oil, soybean oil with conjugated linoleic acids, catfish offal oil, flaxseed oil, menhaden fish oil and poultry fat. Six diets contained 4% of different lipids: soybean oil (SBO), soybean oil containing conjugated linoleic acids (CLA-SBO), catfish offal oil (COO), flaxseed oil (FXO), menhaden fish oil (MFO) and poultry fat (PF). Diets were fed to Channel Catfish (150–200 g) maintained at 26.5 °C in each of six 110 L aquaria. Six hours post-prandial, feces were collected for analysis. Total lipid, crude protein and fatty acids of lyophilized feces were analyzed, and apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) were calculated. ADCs of lipid, saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids, linoleic acid and protein digestibility were similar among diets. CLA isomers (cis-9, trans-11 (84.1%) and trans-10, cis-12 (90%)) in the CLA-SBO diet were highly digestible. Oleic acid digestibility was highest in the PF diet. ADC was high for α-linolenic acid in the FXO diet, and for arachidonic acid and n-3 LC-PUFA in the MFO diet. Simple Summary: Cultivated fish face multiple stressors that impact their viability, growth, and health; additionally, environmental stressors provoke the transmission of bacterial diseases in fish populations. It is widely recognized that feed supplements of plant origin can alleviate stress in fish via the stimulation of non-specific defense responses. We tested the effects of a dietary mix consisting of an antioxidant, dihydroquercetin, and a prebiotic, arabinogalactan, on growth and biochemical indices in farmed rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. The supplement has been shown to maintain the viability of fish affected by a natural bacterial infection as well as alter the fatty acid composition and decrease oxidative damage to the liver. Thus, plant-origin substances could be readily available and safe alternatives to pharmacotherapy and used as a way to improve the health of fish and promote their ability to tolerate stressors under intensive production. Farmed rainbow trout fish, Oncorhynchus mykiss, received either a standard diet or a diet supplemented with 25 mg/kg of dihydroquercetin and 50 mg/kg of arabinogalactan during a feeding season, from June to November. The fish in the control and experimental groups were sampled twice a month (eight samplings in total) for growth variable estimations and tissue sampling. The hepatic antioxidant status was assessed via the quantification of molecular antioxidants, such as reduced glutathione and alpha-tocopherol rates, as well as the enzyme activity rates of peroxidase, catalase, and glutathione-S-transferase. The lipid and fatty acid compositions of the feed and fish liver were analyzed using thin-layer and high-performance liquid chromatography. The viability, size, and biochemical indices of the fish responded to the growth physiology, environmental variables such as the dissolved oxygen content and water temperature, and sporadic factors. Due to an outbreak of a natural bacterial infection in the fish stock followed by antibiotic treatment, a higher mortality rate was observed in the fish that received a standard diet compared to those fed supplemented feed. In the postinfection period, reduced dietary 18:2n-6 and 18:3n-3 fatty acid assimilation contents were detected in the fish that received the standard diet in contrast to the supplemented diet. By the end of the feeding season, an impaired antioxidant response, including reduced glutathione S-transferase activity and glutathione content, and a shift in the composition of membrane lipids, such as sterols, 18:1n-7 fatty acid, and phospholipids, were also revealed in fish fed the standard diet. Simple Summary: One current aim of the chicken meat industry is to reduce production costs, which can be achieved using by-products as feed ingredients. Additionally, this can contribute to the food chain sustainability. This study evaluated lipid composition, lipid oxidation, and quality of fresh and refrigerated chicken meat when an edible oil refining by-product (olive pomace acid oil) was added as a fat source (6%) in broiler diets, using refined olive pomace oil and crude palm oil as fat controls. Results showed that the use of olive pomace acid oil resulted in a similar meat fatty acid composition to the use of refined olive pomace oil, in both cases being rich in oleic acid, and in lower meat α-tocopherol levels compared to the use of palm oil. It did not affect meat lipid oxidation, its color, or its overall acceptance even after its refrigerated storage under commercial conditions, as compared to both control fats. Thus, considering these results, the olive pomace acid oil used in this study is an adequate fat source for broiler feeds in the conditions used in this study. Nevertheless, the dietary lipid level did not have any influence on fish freshness. Simple Summary: This study investigated a comparative analysis on changes in protein and lipid fractions and quality attributes of camel meat, cattle meat (beef) and sheep meat (mutton). The samples were studied over 9 days of refrigerated storage. Camel meat underwent higher lipid oxidation compared with beef and sheep meat. Simple Summary: Pharmaceuticals used to treat abnormal cholesterol levels in the blood are known as lipid regulators (fibrates and statins), and their use is in constant growth. Treatment plants are usually unable to efficiently remove these compounds from wastewater, where their degradation rate is considerably slow, making them an emerging concern for aquatic systems. The present work reviews previously published research concerning the effects of these pharmaceuticals on several finfish species worldwide. Results suggest that both short- and long-term exposure to lipid regulators may have negative effects on fish health, affecting their metabolism and immune system and causing reproductive and developmental disorders. However, the information on these compounds in the available literature is still limited, and additional research is needed to fully understand the threat that their presence in aquatic systems may pose to the production of finfish by the aquaculture industry. The most documented fibrates are gemfibrozil, clofibrate and bezafibrate, while for statins, the majority of the published literature focuses on atorvastatin and simvastatin. The present work reviews previously published research concerning the effects of these hypocholesterolaemic pharmaceuticals on fish, with a particular focus on commercially important species, commonly produced by the European aquaculture industry, specifically in recirculated aquaculture systems (RAS). Overall, results suggest that both acute and chronic exposures to lipid-lowering compounds may have adverse effects on fish, disrupting their capacity to excrete exogenous substances, as well as both lipid metabolism and homeostasis, causing severe ontogenetic and endocrinological abnormalities, leading to hampered reproductive success (e.g., gametogenesis, fecundity), and skeletal or muscular malformations, having serious repercussions on fish health and welfare. Simple Summary: Tea tree oil (TTO) plays an important role in regulating lipid metabolism and has anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effects of TTO in postpartum dairy cows remain to be investigated. Simple Summary: Amaranth, as a valuable edible plant source, has a favorable potential to meet nutritional requirements for poultry. This research was conducted with the aim of investigating effects of feeding different levels of amaranth grain with and without enzyme on laying hens in order to evaluate performance, egg quality traits, antioxidant status and lipid profile of blood and yolk cholesterol. Based on the findings, feeding amaranth in laying hens can lead to production of low-cholesterol eggs without any negative effect on egg quality. Concomitantly, it improves the antioxidant status and atherogenic index (LDL/HDL) of the birds. In addition, feeding amaranth with enzyme additives led to improved performance in laying hens. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of feeding Amaranthus hybridus chlorostachys grain (AG) with (+E) and without enzyme (−E) on performance, egg quality, antioxidant status and lipid profile of blood serum and yolk cholesterol in laying hens. A total of 960 white leghorn (Hy-line W-36) commercial layers (56 weeks) were divided into 10 groups with 8 replicates per group (12 birds per replicate, including 3 adjacent cages with 4 birds each). A completely randomized design was implemented with a 5 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments consisting of five levels of AG (0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 g/kg) and two levels of multienzyme complex addition (0 −E and 0.25 +E g/kg) fed to the hens for 12 weeks (2 wk. adaptation + 10 wk. main experiment). Feed intake (FI) and percentage of hen day production (HDP) were not affected by main effect of the AG level, but egg mass (EM) and egg weight (EW) were decreased (p < 0.01), and the feed conversion ratio (FCR) was impaired (p < 0.01). EM, EW and FCR were improved by enzyme addition (p < 0.01). EM, EW and FCR were affected (p < 0.01) by the interaction of AG and enzyme addition. The highest value of EM and the lowest value of FCR were observed in hens on the diet containing 200 g/kg AG with enzyme addition. Egg yolk cholesterol content was reduced (p < 0.05) by up to 10% with increasing levels AG in experimental diets. The egg quality traits, including Haugh units of protein quality, strength and shell thickness, were not affected by the main effects or interaction of AG and enzyme consumption. Amaranth feeding led to a decrease (p < 0.05) in triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) while also promoting increases (p < 0.05) in the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) of the blood. A comparison of the effects of contrasts showed that functional parameters (except FI), yolk cholesterol, antioxidant parameters (except MDA) and blood lipid profile had differed significantly (p < 0.05) between the hens fed amaranth versus those not fed amaranth. Simple Summary: Triacylglycerols are the major component of intramuscular fat, and the final step in their biosynthesis is catalyzed by DGAT2. Bovine skeletal muscle satellite cells were infected with the overexpression adenovirus Ad-DGAT2 and interfering adenovirus sh-DGAT2. The results showed that overexpression of DGAT2 upregulated the expression of genes involved in lipid accumulation and adipogenesis and increased cellular triacylglycerol content. To explore the effect of DGAT2 on the differentiation of bovine muscle satellite cells (BSCs) and its role in the signaling pathway related to lipid metabolism, the adenovirus overexpression and interference vector of the DGAT2 gene was constructed in this study, and the overexpression adenovirus Ad-DGAT2 and interfering adenovirus sh-DGAT2 were used to infect BSCs. Overexpression of DGAT2 resulted in a significant increase in the contents of TAG and ADP, and the mRNA and protein expression levels of PPARγ, C/EBPα, and SREBF1 (p < 0.05). Interfering with the expression of DGAT2 reduced the intracellular TAG content and lipid droplet accumulation. Furthermore, the mRNA and protein expression levels of PPARγ, C/EBPα, and SREBF1 (p < 0.05) were significantly downregulated. Transcriptome sequencing showed that a total of 598 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened in BSCs infected with Ad-DGAT2, and these DEGs included 292 upregulated genes and 306 downregulated genes. A total of 49 DEGs were screened in BSCs infected with sh-DGAT2, and these DEGs included 25 upregulated and 24 downregulated genes. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the DEGs, after overexpression of DGAT2, were mainly enriched in the PPAR signaling pathway, and the fat digestion and absorption, glycerophospholipid metabolism, fatty acid biosynthesis, and AMPK signaling pathways. The DEGs obtained after interfering with DGAT2 were mainly enriched in the metabolic pathways, such as the PPAR signaling pathway and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. In summary, our study demonstrated that the lipid droplet formation, TAG accumulation, and adipogenic gene expression in BSCs overexpressing DGAT2 were higher than those in the control cells. Simple Summary: Availability of dietary fat and oil is important to broiler chicken due to their rapid growth rate. Therefore, we conducted an experiment with dietary sophorolipid, a glycolipid-type emulsifier, to investigate growth, lipid digestion markers and gut health during the growing period. Growth was accelerated by dietary sophorolipid supplementation through upregulation of lipid digestion and absorption markers. Additionally, dietary sophorolipid also increased the surface area of the gut and modulated microbial population and short-chain fatty acid concentration. Collectively, this study proposed that sophorolipid addition in feed could enhance chicken's growth by increased intestinal absorption of dietary lipid and improved gut microenvironments. Dietary fat and oil could aid in reaching the high-energy requirements of fast-growing birds; however, these inclusions could lead to nutrient waste. This is because young birds have limited lipid digestion due to the low secretion of lipase and bile salt. Sophorolipid (SPL), a glycolipid emulsifier with lower toxicity and higher biodegradability, can upregulate fat utilization by increasing digestibility. Accordingly, a five-week-long experiment was conducted with 720 one-day-old chicks (Ross 308) to investigate the effects of dietary SPL on growth, organ characteristics, and gut health. The allotment was partitioned into four treatment groups according to their body weight with six replications (30 chick/pen). The three treatment diets comprised a basal diet with a formulation that met the Ross 308 standard and 5, 10, and 15 ppm SPL in the basal diet. During the experiment, the birds had free access to feed, and body weight and feed intake were measured at the end of each phase. Chickens were put down at the end of the growing and finishing phases, and jejunum and cecal samples were obtained to investigate organ characteristics and gut environments. The data were analyzed using the generalized linear model procedures of SAS 9.4, and all data were assessed for linear, quadratic, and cubic effects of dietary SPL-supplemented dosages. Body weight was significantly increased with 10 ppm of SPL supplementation in the grower phase without affecting feed efficiency. The relative weights of the intestine and the bursa of Fabricius were quadratically decreased by SPL supplementation with a lower population of Streptococcus and higher propionate and butyrate concentrations. Additionally, the dietary SPL supplementation groups showed a significantly increased villus/crypt ratio with higher intestinal expression levels of fatty acid translocase, diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2, and fatty acid transporter 4. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of rearing systems for pig production, as concerns performance, meat lipid content, the fatty acid profile, histidinic antioxidants, coenzyme Q10, and TBARs. One hundred pigs were assigned to one of three treatments: intensively reared commercial hybrid pig (I), free range commercial hybrid pig (FR) or organically reared crossbred pig (O), according to organic EU Regulations. I pigs showed the best productive performance, but FR and O increased: C20:In9, Δ9-desaturase (C18) and thioesterase indices in meat. Palm kernel oil (PKO) is extracted from the fruit of the oil palm (Elaeis guineenses), a plant of African origin adapted to tropical regions. The aim of this study was to evaluate PKO as a supplementary fat source in ruminant diets. Thus, two studies were developed to understand the effects of PKO inclusion on performance, ingestive behavior, nutrient digestibility, fermentation parameters and carcass characteristics. The results showed a reduction in dry matter intake with consequent negative effects on digestibility, performance and carcass characteristics due to the dietary inclusion of PKO. However, the addition of the lipid source reduced protozoa counts and the acetate/propionate ratio, important characteristics for reducing ruminal methanogenesis, in further studies. In the second experiment, steers crossbred with a ruminal cannula were used to evaluate digestibility, nitrogen balance, microbial protein synthesis, short-chain fatty acid levels and protozoal counts. The results showed that the inclusion of PKO linearly reduced intake in kg/day (DM, crude protein—CP, neutral detergent fiber—NDFap, nonfibrous carbohydrates—NFC and total digestible nutrient—TDN) and digestibility (DM, NDFap and TDN). Ether extract intake increased quadratically with the predicted maximum intake of 15.4 g/kg DM. Regarding ingestive behavior, there was a quadratic increase in rumination time and a quadratic reduction in idle time. Nitrogen balance, nitrogen intake, nitrogen retention, microbial protein production, acetate, butyrate, acetate/propionate ratio and protozoa count showed linear decreases due to dietary PKO inclusion. Regarding the carcass characteristics, linear decreases were observed for the final weight, average daily gain, hot carcass weight, cold carcass weight, hot carcass yield, cold carcass yield, loin eye area and subcutaneous fat thickness. The aim of the study was to compare and demonstrate whether commercial rennet ripening cheeses available on the market in summer and winter differ in their chemical composition, fatty acid profile, content of cis9trans11 C18:2 (CLA) acid and other trans isomers of C18:1 and C18:2 acid and whether they are characterized by different values of lipid quality assessment indices. The experimental material consisted of rennet ripening of cheeses produced from cow's milk available in the Polish market. The summer cheeses were richer sources of MUFA and PUFA compared to winter cheeses. Summer cheeses were also characterized by lower content of SFA, higher content n − 3, lower n − 6/n − 3 ratio, and higher content of DFA. Simple Summary: In Spain, goat farms are mainly oriented to milk production, although kid meat contributes to their sustainability, particularly in autochthonous breeds such as Payoya. Usually, kids are fed artificial milk until slaughter, allowing the use of goat milk for the commercialization of cheese, but several studies indicate that feeding kids natural milk improve the quality of their meat. The aim of the present study was to find traceability markers to discriminate between kids that are fed natural milk (with different goat management systems) and those fed a milk replacer. For this purpose, we proposed the quantification of retinol and α-tocopherol contents in plasma and fat, the amount of kidney fat, lipid oxidation, and some fat color parameters as potential markers. The results showed that plasma retinol concentrations were higher in kids fed feeding systems with synthetic vitamins. The plasma α-tocopherol concentrations were higher in kids fed grass-based feeding systems (which contain the natural forms of these vitamins). A dilution effect was shown for the retinol concentration in fat. Collectively, the analyzed variables allowed a discriminant analysis to correctly classify kids according to their feeding system and could ensure traceability to consumers. The effects of Payoya kid feeding systems on the fat-soluble vitamin (retinol/α-tocopherol) contents, fat content, fat color, and the oxidation index were evaluated to determine their potential for use as feeding system traceability tools. Four groups of Payoya kids (55 animals in total) fed milk exclusively were studied: a group fed a milk replacer (MR) and three groups fed natural milk from dams reared with different management systems (mountain grazing (MG), cultivated meadow (CM) and total mixed ration (TMR)). Kids were slaughtered around one month of age and 8 kg of live weight. Kids from the MG and CM groups presented lower retinol (5.56 and 3.72 µg/mL) and higher α-tocopherol plasma (11.43 and 8.85 µg/mL) concentrations than those from the TMR and MR groups (14.98 and 22.47 µg/mL of retinol; 2.49 and 0.52 µg/mL of α-tocopherol, respectively) (p < 0.001). With respect to fat, kids with a higher intramuscular fat percentage (CM and TMR groups) had lower retinol contents (16.52 and 15.99 µg/mL, respectively) than kids from the MG and MR groups (26.81 and 22.63 µg/mL, respectively) (p < 0.001). A dilution effect of vitamins on fat was shown: the higher the amount of fat, the lower the vitamin concentrations, the higher the lipid oxidation index (MDA), and the lower the SUM (absolute value of the integral of the translated spectra between 450 and 510 nm). Simple Summary: Lipins are a family of proteins involved in lipid metabolism through their phosphatidate phosphatase and transcriptional co-activator activities. Of the three family members identified, lipin-1 is highly upregulated in the bovine mammary gland during lactation, and has been implicated in regulating milk production, albeit with inconsistent results in different breeds of cattle in studies. Accordingly, its role in regulating milk synthesis is not well understood. In this study, we used polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) analyses to investigate variation in the bovine lipin-1 gene in New Zealand Holstein-Friesian × Jersey-cross dairy cows and found that variation in the sixth coding exon was associated with milk fat percentage and protein percentage. This suggests that lipin-1 regulates the synthesis of milk fat and milk protein. Lipin-1 is known to play a regulatory role in tissues that function in lipid metabolism. In dairy cows, the lipin-1 gene (LPIN1) is highly expressed in the mammary gland, but its function in milk production is less understood. In this study, we used PCR-single strand conformation polymorphism analysis to investigate sequence variation in three regions of bovine LPIN1 in New Zealand Holstein-Friesian × Jersey (HF × J)-cross dairy cows, including part of the 5′ non-coding region, the region containing the LPIN1β-spliced exon, and the sixth coding exon that encodes the putative transcriptional activating domain of the protein. No variation was found in the LPIN1β-spliced exon, but two sequence variants containing one single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) were identified in the 5′ non-coding region and four sequence variants containing four non-synonymous SNPs were identified in the sixth coding exon. Among the three common variants of the sixth coding exon, variant C was found to be associated with an increase in milk fat percentage (presence 4.96 ± 0.034% vs. absence 4.81 ± 0.050%; p = 0.006) and milk protein percentage (presence 4.09 ± 0.017% vs. absence 3.99 ± 0.025%; p = 0.001), but no associations (p > 0.01) were detected for milk yield. Simple Summary: In recent years, interest has grown in improving the productivity of pure local breeds in Spain using corn silage as an alternative to concentrates. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the lipid oxidation, color and visual color acceptability of meat from the Avileña-Negra Ibérica breed fed with corn silage in total mixed ration. The inclusion of corn silage led to lower lipid oxidation and higher visual color acceptability when the samples were packaged in a modified atmosphere. In order to increase the economic profitability of Avileña-Negra Ibérica beef production, the inclusion of corn silage in total mixed rations was proposed during the fattening period. Twenty-four Avileña-Negra Ibérica breed entire young bulls were used to evaluate the effects of two feeding systems—concentrate (CON) and corn silage (SIL)—and two packaging systems—vacuum (VAC) and modified atmosphere (MAP)—on the lipid oxidation, color evolution and visual color acceptability of meat throughout display with either oxygen-permeable film (FILM) or modified atmosphere (MAP). Two muscles were assessed: Longissimus thoracis (LT) and Semitendinosus (ST). Meat from SIL-fed animals had higher TBA values than CON-fed animals after 7 days in MAP packaging. Lipid oxidation was prevented more effectively by VAC packaging than MAP. Display time highly influenced lipid oxidation, since oxidation rates were lower with VAC than MAP packaging. After 14 days of display in MAP, the LT from CON was lighter than the ST. Meat discoloration after 7 days of display was significantly different between packaging systems. Vacuum-packaged meat kept the same color throughout the storage time. Visual color acceptability for the LT was higher throughout display than for the ST. Samples from the MAP were well accepted by consumers, especially the meat from the SIL group. Simple Summary: The use of fats derived from palm is becoming very common in dairy sheep farms to increase the energy concentration of the diet and therefore the milk production. However, these fats may negatively affect the nutritional quality of milk, whereas feeding unsaturated oils may improve milk fatty acid profile. In this regard, our results in dairy sheep suggested that using palm fat had no evident disadvantage in terms of milk fatty acid composition compared with a diet without supplementation. Nevertheless, it had no positive effects on production or indicators of feed efficiency (for example, milk yield per unit of feed consumed). By contrast, supplementation with oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids (specifically olive oil and soybean oil) improved milk fatty acid profile, with stronger effects with the use of the most unsaturated fat: soybean oil. For example, the latter oil induced the greatest increases in fatty acids with potentially positive effects on human health (e.g., conjugated linoleic acid). In addition, from a practical point of view, the use of soybean oil might also be recommendable to improve the amount of milk produced per unit of feed consumed, compared with the use of palm fat. Lipids of different unsaturation degree were added to dairy ewe diet to test the hypothesis that unsaturated oils would modulate milk fatty acid (FA) profile without impairing or even improving feed efficiency. To this aim, we examined milk FA profile and efficiency metrics (feed conversion ratio (FCR), energy conversion ratio (ECR), residual feed intake (RFI), and residual energy intake (REI)) in 40 lactating ewes fed a diet with no lipid supplementation (Control) or supplemented with 3 fats rich in saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated FA (i.e., purified palmitic acid (PA), olive oil (OO), and soybean oil (SBO)). Compared with PA, addition of OO decreased milk medium-chain saturated FA and improved the concentration of potentially health-promoting FA, such as cis-9 18:1, trans-11 18:1, cis-9 trans-11 CLA, and 4:0, with no impact on feed efficiency metrics. Nevertheless, FA analysis and decreases in FCR and ECR suggested that SBO supplementation would be a better nutritional strategy to further improve milk FA profile and feed efficiency in dairy ewes. The findings obtained in the current survey showed a dynamic modulation of studied parameters, namely the response to hormonal and metabolic adaptations, occurring during the peripartum period in mares. This study suggests an interaction of the HPA axis with lipid metabolism in mares, probably to deal with the metabolic load occurring during pregnancy and with lactation energy supplies. This study aimed to investigate the dynamic change of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), cortisol, leptin, mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), lipids and lipoproteins in mares during late pregnancy and the postpartum period. A total of 20 mares (10 pregnant mares, monitored from 14 ± 2 days before expected foaling until 14 days after foaling, Group A; 10 non-pregnant and non-lactating mares, Group B) were enrolled in the study. Body Condition Score (BCS) and body weight (BW) values were recorded from each animal. In Group A, blood samples were collected on days 14 ± 2 and 7 ± 2 before foaling (T−14; T−7), and on days 7 and 14 after foaling (T+7; T+14). From mares of Group B, blood samples were collected at the beginning of the study. The levels of ACTH, cortisol, leptin, UCP1, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), total cholesterol, high-density lipoproteins (HDLs), low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), triglycerides and very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDLs) were investigated. While BCS showed no statistical change throughout the monitoring period (p > 0.05), all the other studied parameters displayed statistically significant variations in Group A over the peripartum period (p < 0.0001). A significant effect of pregnancy was found on all studied parameters (p < 0.001). The ACTH and cortisol levels measured in mares belonged to Group A showed a significant positive correlation with the values of leptin, LDLs, triglycerides and VLDLs, whereas they were negatively correlated with the serum UCP1 and NEFAs values. Together, the findings gathered in this study highlight a dynamic change of serum leptin, UCP1 and lipid parameters in peripartum mares and suggest an interaction of the HPA axis with lipid metabolism and mobilization in mares during the peripartum period in order to deal with metabolic and energy demand and maintain energy homeostasis. There are several characteristics in some types of feed ingredients that are detrimental to swine health and performance, but they are seldom measured and deserve greater consideration. The purpose of this review is to provide a holistic assessment of the benefits and limitations of existing chemical analysis methods and measures used to evaluate feed ingredients for swine and explore the benefits of using additional measurements to more accurately assess their true nutri-physiological value. Many types of feed ingredients are used to provide energy and nutrients to meet the nutritional requirements of swine. However, the analytical methods and measures used to determine the true nutritional and physiological ("nutri-physiological") value of feed ingredients affect the accuracy of predicting and achieving desired animal responses. Some chemical characteristics of feed ingredients are detrimental to pig health and performance, while functional components in other ingredients provide beneficial health effects beyond their nutritional value when included in complete swine diets. Traditional analytical procedures and measures are useful for determining energy and nutrient digestibility of feed ingredients, but do not adequately assess their true physiological or biological value. Prediction equations, along with ex vivo and in vitro methods, provide some benefits for assessing the nutri-physiological value of feed ingredients compared with in vivo determinations, but they also have some limitations. Determining the digestion kinetics of the different chemical components of feed ingredients, understanding how circadian rhythms affect feeding behavior and the gastrointestinal microbiome of pigs, and accounting for the functional properties of many feed ingredients in diet formulation are the emerging innovations that will facilitate improvements in precision swine nutrition and environmental sustainability in global pork-production systems. Simple Summary: With the grassland desertification intensified, pasture carrying capacity decreased, and grass seasonal changed, stall-feeding fattening has become an effective means to protect the natural environment. The stall-feeding fattening increased the cashmere goats' weight but reduced the meat quality and increased the saturated fatty acids content in muscle and fat tissue of cashmere goats. Supplementing flaxseed and flaxseed oil rich-in linolenic acid (ALA) to diet to improve meat quality is an effective nutritional regulation means. Previous research results of our team showed that compared to diet supplemented with flaxseed oil, added flaxseed increased linoleic acid biohydrogenation by reducing the Ruminobacter relative abundance and increasing the relative abundance of Prevotellaceae_UCG-001 and Fretibacterium in rumen, protected ALA away from biohydrogenation, and more n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids entered the post-intestinal tract. Based on the previous research, this study explored whether the ALA flowing into the posterior intestine can reduce fat deposition and blood lipid by affecting intestinal microbiota. The results showed that adding flaxseed grain to diet decreased the growth performance, lipid deposition, and blood lipid content of goats by regulating the blood lipid-related enzyme activity, which positively associated with [Eubacterium]_coprostanoligenes_group, but negatively associated with unclassified_f_Peptostreptococcaceae, Intestinibacter, and Ruminococcus_2. The present study investigated the effect of flaxseed grain or flaxseed oil on ileal microbiota and lipid deposition of cashmere goats. Sixty kid goats (average body weight 18.6 ± 0.1 kg) were allocated to three treatments, fed for 90 days, with control treatment: basal diet (CON, total-mixed ration), experimental treatment: basal diet with added flaxseed oil (LNO), experimental treatment: basal diet with added heated flaxseed grain (HLS). Simple Summary: The Neotropical catfish Pseudoplatystoma punctifer is a promising candidate species for aquaculture diversification in the Amazon basin. However, optimized feeding strategies are needed to improve growth and survival during the early life stages. In order to determine the nutritional needs of early juveniles, the influence of four diets containing different protein and lipid content in their digestive physiology and performance was evaluated. To do so, the gene expression and the activity of the main digestive enzymes, the histology of the digestive organs, and the incorporation of the dietary macronutrients in the body tissue of fish fed the different diets were analyzed. The diet containing the highest protein and lipid content promoted the fastest development of the digestive capacities, resulting in a better growth and survival that increased sixfold and twofold, respectively, in comparison to previous feeding protocols. Lipids were favored over carbohydrates as a source of energy and excessive carbohydrate content led to unbalanced lipid metabolism and fat deposition in the liver. This study provided new knowledge on the molecular and biochemical mechanisms underlying nutrient digestion in this species and on the nutritional needs of early juveniles, which represents a significant contribution towards the establishment of its commercial culture. Pseudoplatystoma punctifer is an Amazonian catfish highly appreciated for its high flesh quality, size, and commercial value. Its aquaculture is pursued to satisfy the demands of an increasing population in the region. However, knowledge of the nutritional needs during the early life stages is necessary for improving growth and reducing the incidence of cannibalism, factors that limit the success of its commercial farming. This study aimed at evaluating the influence of four diets containing different protein and lipid levels (30:15, 30:10, 45:15, or 45:10 in %) in the digestive physiology and performance of early juveniles. The results showed that the dietary protein:lipid as well as carbohydrate levels and ratios influenced differently the whole-body proximate composition, the digestive physiology and development, and hence growth and survival. Lipids were favored over carbohydrates as source of energy, with lipids promoting a protein-sparing effect at adequate energy:protein ratio. Dietary betaine improved meat quality parameters viz. cooking loss, thawing loss and water-holding capacity of Japanese quail fed diets containing either restricted or low ME by enrichments of the meat with omega-3 fatty acids and reduction of lipids levels. Dietary betaine and ME levels did not affect the performance, meat energy indices (ATP and AMP) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels of Japanese quail meat. Dietary betaine and/or ME levels induced significant changes in serum triacylglycerol (TAG), total cholesterols (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-c), meat total lipids and cholesterol of Japanese quail. Simple Summary: The need to become more efficient in agriculture and the food industry exists parallel to the challenge of climate change. Meat and dairy production is the target of much scrutiny due to methane (CH4) emissions and global warming. On the other hand, it should be noted that two-thirds of the world's agricultural land consists of pastures and permanent grasslands and is used for livestock grazing. This land is predominantly unsuitable for arable purposes but facilitates the production of high-quality human-edible protein in the form of ruminant animal-derived meat and milk. This makes a significant contribution to feeding the world's population. There is a need to reduce CH4 emissions, however, and several approaches are being researched currently. Seaweeds are diverse plants containing bioactives that differ from their terrestrial counterparts and they are increasingly under investigation as a feed supplement for the mitigation of enteric CH4. Seaweeds are rich in bioactives including proteins, carbohydrates and to a lesser extent lipids, saponins, alkaloids and peptides. These bioactives could also play a role as feed ingredients to reduce enteric CH4. This review collates information on seaweeds and seaweed bioactives and their potential to impact on enteric CH4 emissions. Seaweeds contain a myriad of nutrients and bioactives including proteins, carbohydrates and to a lesser extent lipids as well as small molecules including peptides, saponins, alkaloids and pigments. The bioactive bromoform found in the red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis has been identified as an agent that can reduce enteric CH4 production from livestock significantly. However, sustainable supply of this seaweed is a problem and there are some concerns over its sustainable production and potential negative environmental impacts on the ozone layer and the health impacts of bromoform. This review collates information on seaweeds and seaweed bioactives and the documented impact on CH4 emissions in vitro and in vivo as well as associated environmental, economic and health impacts. Simple Summary: Consumers value quality beef and producers are starting to look at the ways production decisions affect the long-term performance of the animals. Early weaning is a production option in many beef cattle production environments. We are looking at the addition of rumen by-pass lipids in addition to early weaning to increase the marbling of steers. The supplementation of rumen protected lipids' increased plasma concentrations of fatty acids. Supplementation of rumen-protected lipids improved carcass quality of young steers by increasing marbling scores and lipid concentration of steaks without negatively impacting dressing percentage. Therefore, a combination of early weaning and rumen by-pass lipid supplementation can be used as management practices to meet current consumer demands. The objective of this study was to determine how weaning age, days on supplements, and lipid supplementation affected the growth and marbling deposition of steers. Steers from a single sire were early weaned (n = 24) at 150 ± 11 days of age or traditionally weaned (n = 24) at 210 ± 11 days of age. Steers were assigned to control (n = 12/weaning group) or an isocaloric, isonitrogenous rumen by-pass lipid (RBL, n = 12/weaning group) for either 45 (n = 6/treatment) or 90 (n=6/treatment) days then harvested. Steer body weight (BW) was recorded on days −14 and −7, then BW and blood samples were collected on days 0, 22, 45, 66, and 90. The right rib section of each animal was collected for proximate analysis. Longissimus dorsi from RBL steers had increased lipids compared with control steers (3.6 ± 0.2 vs. 2.4 ± 0.2% on a wet basis; p < 0.0001). Steers fed for 90 days had greater (p = 0.02) concentrations of Longissimus dorsi lipid (3.3 ± 0.2%) than those fed for 45 days (2.7 ± 0.2%). There was a weaning age by treatment by days on feed interaction for intramuscular adipocyte diameter (p = 0.02) in which early weaned RBL fed for 90 days steers had an increased adipocyte diameter compared to the early weaned control fed for 90 and early weaned fed for 45 days steers with all other treatment groups as intermediates. Supplementation of RBL increased concentrations of C18:2, C20:4, and total fatty acids on days 45 and 90 (p ≤ 0.05). Data show that RBL supplementation increased the marbling content of the Longissimus dorsi. Furthermore, a longer period of supplementation resulted in increased adipose diameter. Adipocyte differentiation and lipid metabolism have important regulatory effects on the quality of meat from livestock. A variety of transcription factors regulate preadipocyte differentiation. Several studies have revealed that transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β1) may play a key role in epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT); however, little is known about the effects of TGF-β1 treatment on porcine preadipocytes. To explore the role of TGF-β1 in porcine adipocyte differentiation, porcine preadipocytes were treated with 10 ng/mL TGF-β1, and two libraries were constructed for RNA-seq. We chose an abundant and differentially expressed long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), which we named fat deposition-associated long noncoding RNA1 (FDNCR1), for further study. RT-qPCR was used to detect mRNA levels of genes related to adipocyte differentiation. Triglyceride assay kits were used to detect lipid droplet deposition. TGF-β1 significantly suppressed porcine preadipocyte differentiation. We identified 8158 lncRNAs in total and 39 differentially expressed lncRNAs. After transfection with FDNCR1 siRNA, the mRNA expression of aP2, C/EBPα, and PPARγ and triglyceride levels significantly increased. Transfection with FDNCR1 siRNA significantly decreased protein levels of p-Smad2/Smad2 and p-Smad3/Smad3. These results demonstrate that FDNCR1 suppresses porcine preadipocyte differentiation via the TGF-β signaling pathway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
