Through the study of the autobiographical novel La caja Topper by Nicolás Gadano (2019), this article addresses the uses of the archive in the narratives of the children of victims -in a broad sense- of the last Argentine military dictatorship. Following the theoretical propositions of Jacques Derrida, Sara Ahmed, and Adriana Cavarero, we analyze the interventions that Gadano makes on the objects that his mother kept in a sneaker box as memorabilia of the family exile experience. First, we study the way in which the old box and the objects contained in it function as a matriarchive. Second, we analyze the operations that Gadano performs on the materiality, content, and ordering of the objects in the box, which produces a generational transfer of authority over the archive. Finally, we conclude that, through his fidelity to the maternal affective style, the author disassembles the traditional model of emotional labor division, reshaping the links between gender, generations, and memory. The posthumous work of Roberto Bolaño presents the intriguing theme of national identity and immigration. This work analyzes the difficult and ambivalent relationship that Chilean characters establish with their homeland then shows how the protagonists' life circumstances lead to an eternal nomadism. It then considers the relationship the characters establish with Latin America, revealed to be the only possibility for belonging. It aims at analyzing the literary expression of masculinity and emotions, and their reception, in Perros que ladran en el sótano (2012), Olga Merino’s third novel. With such purpose, we’ll review her journalistic work, formal and thematic issues of this work as well as topics related to gender and sexuality, those which better illustrate its ideological significance. It can be argued that the tapestry reconstructed by Merino in her third fiction reflects historically a Spanish cultural tradition, but also predetermines particular modes of seeing and feeling masculinity.

Analysis of a pioneering novel in the representation of male homoeroticism, Ella o el sueño de nadie (1983), by Chilean author Mauricio Wacquez, in contraposition to the short story “Rapsodia metropolitan” (2007), by Barcelonese writer Daniel O’Hara, both published in “La sonrisa vertical” [“Vertical Smile”], one of the most important Hispanic erotic collections of the last quarter of the 20th century. These fictions, focused on the representation of a violent heterodox masculinity –and published almost a quarter of a century apart– and transgressive because of their visibilization of homoerotic practices, are still far from any type of vindication of a minority sexuality.

An area of contemporary Latin American literature shows a growing interest in reviewing the experience of the defeat of armed struggle organizations established in the region since the 1960s. Within the framework of these debates, the cycle of novels made up by Historia del llanto (2007), Historia del pelo (2010) and Historia del dinero (2013), by the Argentine writer Alan Pauls, is devoted, on the one side, to dismantling the processes of subjectivation of militancy, and interrogating crystallized meanings in the discourses and politics of memory. On the other side, through the elaboration of an impersonal aesthetic of perception that assumes estrangement as a key premise, these fictions imagine alternative imbrications between life, politics and bodies starting from the investigation of the politicity of affect.

Abstract: In the framework of a broader investigation into the imaginaries of the afterworld in present-day Argentine literature, this paper aims at addressing the ways in which Carlos Ríos’s Cuaderno de Pripyat (2012) narrates the afterworld of an identifiable historical event, the Chernobyl disaster, creating further tension between the crisis itself and the possibility of a post-apocalyptic setting that brings a radical and immeasurable interruption into play. First, we analyze the ways in which this multiplication of temporalities affects the presentation of the testimonies collected in the story. Next, the paper focuses on the collage as a possible explicative key to the fragmentary composition of the story based on the tension between the rationality of that which remains and that of referential oversaturation.

Among the various ways of approaching the 70s in Argentina there emerges a theme which runs through a set of artistic, cinematographic and fictional narratives from the first decade of the 21st century. Their common motto could be summed up with this premise: In order to view and think about that time period in a new light, it must be divested of its familiarity, brought about by dominant memorial narratives. To grasp the extent of this method in approaching Argentina’s recent past, this article analyzes strategies of defamiliarization manifested in two ways, one literary, the other visual: the work Ezeiza paintant (MALBA 2005) by Fabian Marcaccio, and Alan Pauls’ trilogy on the 70s, especially his first two novels, Historia del llanto and Historia del pelo, which accompanied memorial debates in the beginning of 21st century in Argentina. The point of view assumed by the narrator of the nouvelles comprising Eduardo Muslip's Phoenix (2009) assumes variations that collectively could be called a "foreign vision". Reading the narrator's positioning in the context of the stranger, as understood by Georg Simmel, demonstrates features of storytelling affected by displacements and distances by familiarizing the distant and estranging the familiar. Understanding the vision of the narrator as a self-reflexive and attentive reveals features of the narrative subject as they relate to contemporary reconsiderations about the new scope of cosmopolitanism. Instead of a depoliticized and uncritical representation of international mobility and spaces of transit in the contemporary world, Muslip gives the various modes of displacement a social and political contextualization. El punto de vista que asume el narrador de las nouvelles que componen el libro Phoenix (2009) de Eduardo Muslip adquiere inflexiones diversas que pueden englobarse bajo la idea de una "mirada extranjera". La lectura del posicionamiento de este narrador a la luz de la figura del extranjero, tal como es entendida por Georg Simmel, resulta adecuada para evidenciar los rasgos de un modo de narrar que interviene en los efectos de los desplazamientos y las distancias al familiarizar lo lejano y extrañar lo cercano. Entender el carácter autorreflexivo y atento al matiz de esta mirada dará pie, también, a la comprensión de los rasgos del sujeto narrador en relación con las reconsideraciones contemporáneas sobre los nuevos alcances del cosmopolitismo. En lugar de una inscripción despolitizada y acrítica de la movilidad a escala internacional y de los espacios de tránsito del mundo contemporáneo, Muslip dota a los distintos modos del desplazamiento de una contextualización social y política.
