Background: Chronic wounds affect around 2.4 – 4.5 million patients in the United States. The burden of wound management is growing rapidly. Objective: Management of chronic wounds with integrated conventional medicine and Ayurveda treatment. Clinical Features: A 52-year-old female patient, presented with non-healing chronic wound on the right leg with pain persisting for 5 years. Initial measurement of the wound was 48 cm length × 13 cm width × 0.4 cm depth. Intervention and Outcomes: Wound depth was measured during different stages of healing along with photographic images. Patient was given Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for 10 days, compression leg wraps and diuretics along with washing of the wound with Triphala decoction daily and application of wound dressing with Turmeric powder, neem bark powder and Medihoney daily were done. Marma therapy was performed once a week. Patient was also suggested kapha pacifying diet and lifestyle. Results: The wound was completely healed with normal skin coloration by the sixth week. Conclusions: This case study discusses the use of integration of ayurvedic herbs with conventional medicine for the management of wound healing. Interventional studies should be conducted to better understand the effectiveness of this integrative approach for the treatment of chronic wounds.

Purpose: In Basketball game Gulpha Marma injuries are common. Wrong landing causes inflammation & tearing of ligament resulting into sprain. Prevention can be carried out by protective wears like Ankelet,crape bandge which gives temporary recovery. Assessment and evaluation of the application of Masha Taila as a Snehana and Avagaha Sweda as a preventive measure for Gulpha Marma injuries. Method: 30 players with Normal ankle joint (Group A) & 30 players with Ankle sprain (1st degree) of Basketball players (Group B) were taken with age group 13 to 25 yrs. Goniometer to measure Range of motion (R.O.M.), pain analog scale for pain gradation. Result: Group A and B were compared with their control groups. The statistical result for normal dorsiflexion was 0.0007 degree, plantar flexion 0.001 degree, dorsi flexion of ankle sprain players 0.002 degree, plantar flexion 0.03 degree. The measurement of ROM of all players increased by 510 times indicating increased joint flexibility, based on ROM Mash taila proved to be a preventive measure. Pain analog scale for group B players indicated moderate pain at 0 day,reduced by 50% on 15th day and completely reduced on 30th day. Conclusion: “Prevention is better than cure”. As a preventive aspect the application of Masha Taila in normal ankle joint as Snehan & Swedan with warm water increases flexibility of joint and muscle strength. In sprained joint the same Taila application relives pain and regains its movements, this recovery and strength of joints happens because of reduce adhesion & influence the direction of new collage fibres in the healing process. It eliminates toxic accumulation from secondary muscle spasm. These Marma being the vital points must be prevented by applying Snehan & Swedan before starting the game just as warm up.

Purpose: Vertebral disc lesion i.e. spondylosis (Cervical / Thoracic /Lumbar) and PID affects nearly 80% of population. It is the most common cause of job related disability leading to missed work and second most common neurological ailment. As per the modern management is concerned, there is no established treatment for it, except surgical intervention, which cause complications and side effects.The present study has focus on the effectiveness of panchkarma combined with shamana therapies. Method: The study was conducted in 100 clinically diagnosed patients of vertebral disc lesions. These patients were randomly selected and divided in to two groups. I. Patients having cervical lesion were kept on Panchkarma (Udvartan and Valukasveda Snehan, Swedan, Vamankarm, Tiktksheer Basti, Greevabasti, Nasyakarma.) II. Patients having lumbar lesions ware kept on (Udvartan and Valukasveda Snehan, Swedan, Virechankarm, Tiktaksheer basti, Katibasti, Nasyakarma.)After that both groups were kept on oral drugs such as Tab. Arogyavardhini-250mg BID, and Tab. Panchtiktakgrithguggul-250mg BID. With local abhyanga and nadisveda for 1 month. Result: The patient was assessed after completion of treatment and follow up was done. The incidence of presenting features was worked out and the severities of the symptom were recorded statistically in each case and data were analysed. Both groups showed improvement in signs and symptoms significantly. Conclusion: Vertebral disc lesions are progressive degenerative conditions in which vata at its own Ashaya (Asthi-Sandhi) gets provoked and as it belongs to MadhyamRogamarga treatment becomes challenging. This attempt possibly finds solutions which can delay or even prevent surgical intervenation as sandhis are sites of Marma. It is an effective, simple, safe, treatment modality for vertebral disc lesion.
