During the last decade the Spanish educational system has experienced a significant rise in the number of immigrant non-college students. However, the distribution of such pupils amongst public financed schools (public and harmonized schools) is not uniform, rather this type of student body, in general, tends to concentrate in public schools. This article's objective is to analyze the effect that might have, in terms of educational social welfare, a reallocation of the immigrant students' percentage between public and harmonized schools in each of the ten Autonomous Communities that participated in PISA 2006 as a representative sample. In order to accomplish so, Badenes & Santín (2006) methodology, which combines efficiency and equity and allows analyzing both concepts from an aggregate perspective, is used. The results show differences for school type as well as for region for both efficiency and equity. Also, the mentioned reallocation in a same region assumes an improvement in the educational welfare levels driven by an increase of average efficiency and a scarce variation of academic outcomes.
