Abstract

The article discusses a study which examined the effects of intraoperative infusion of prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) on interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels, DO2, pulmonary function and complications. The study included 30 patients who were randomly selected to receive either PGE1 or placebo. Study authors concluded that PGE1 increases IL-6 serum levels in patients undergoing esophagectomy. No pulmonary complications were noted in both groups.
