Gediz River is the largest river flowing into Izmir Bay. It has got seasonally fluctuating regime. It's annual mean flowing rate was measured as 21,64 ± 3.02 m³/s during the period of 2004-2005 in which the seasonal samplings for the study have been carried out. Special attention was paid for the coverage of low (November) and high (February) flow periods. Its total suspended solids (TSS) concentrations were compared with those of Izmir Bay, and the TSS loads through the mouth of the river were calculated. Many researchers reported so far that "Gediz River is a pollution source for Izmir Bay", however there was no any mathematical explanation based on measurements showing a volume estimation as a pollution source and/or indicating any time pattern. This study has been presenting some answers to these questions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
