The article reports a study which was conducted to measure the prevalence, timing, and magnitude of tendon retraction after rotator cuff repair. The results revealed that all rotator cuff tendon repairs retracted away from their position of initial fixation during the first year after surgery. All patients demonstrated some degree of medial tendon retraction after rotator cuff repair, whether or not they went on to form a recurrent tendon defect.
