In this article the authors discusses the potential of rehabilitation robotic systems for upper extremities in delivering large doses of motor training for stroke survivors, in a cost effective manner and analyzes their own attempt to design and test the feasibility of a task oriented robot (TOR) based on their new task oriented training (TOT) framework 'Adaptive and Automatic Presentation of Task' (ADAPT). The authors propose that future TORs need to incorporate newer adative task presentation algorithm so that the individual actively performs doable but challenging tasks without physical assistance.
