Abstract

The article presents a study that examines 30 papers on the anaphylactic shocks and lethal anaphylaxis caused by Houttuynia Cordata injection (HCI) published in China from 1980 to 2007. It notes that HCI is derived from herbal extract of sterile volatile oil of the distilled H. Cordata and is used to treat diseases. An overview of the allergic effects of HCI is presented. It concludes that children, pregnant women or patients with common colds should not be given with HCI.
