Utilizing specific keywords for dataset extraction from Clarivate Analytics' Web of Science Core Collection, the bibliometric analysis spans six years, offering valuable insights aimed at identifying key trends, methodologies, and notable strategies within this multidisciplinary field. The analysis encompasses the examination of prolific authors, prominent journals, collaborative efforts, prior publications, covered subjects, keywords, bigrams, trigrams, theme maps, co-occurrence networks, and various other relevant topics. Edge computing is one of the technological areas currently considered among the most promising for the implementation of many types of applications. In particular, IoT-type applications can benefit from reduced latency and better data protection. However, the price typically to be paid in order to benefit from the offered opportunities includes the need to use a reduced amount of resources compared to the traditional cloud environment. Indeed, it may happen that only one computing node can be used. In these situations, it is essential to introduce computing and memory resource management techniques that allow resources to be optimized while still guaranteeing acceptable performance, in terms of latency and probability of rejection. For this reason, the use of serverless technologies, managed by reinforcement learning algorithms, is an active area of research. In this paper, we explore and compare the performance of some machine learning algorithms for managing horizontal function autoscaling in a serverless edge computing system. In particular, we make use of open serverless technologies, deployed in a Kubernetes cluster, to experimentally fine-tune the performance of the algorithms. The results obtained allow both the understanding of some basic mechanisms typical of edge computing systems and related technologies that determine system performance and the guiding of configuration choices for systems in operation. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of global mortality and responsible for millions of deaths annually. The mortality rate and overall consequences of cardiac disease can be reduced with early disease detection. However, conventional diagnostic methods encounter various challenges, including delayed treatment and misdiagnoses, which can impede the course of treatment and raise healthcare costs. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, especially machine learning (ML) algorithms, offers a promising pathway to address these challenges. This paper emphasizes the central role of machine learning in cardiac health and focuses on precise cardiovascular disease prediction. In particular, this paper is driven by the urgent need to fully utilize the potential of machine learning to enhance cardiovascular disease prediction. Forecasting the generation of solar power plants (SPPs) requires taking into account meteorological parameters that influence the difference between the solar irradiance at the top of the atmosphere calculated with high accuracy and the solar irradiance at the tilted plane of the solar panel on the Earth's surface. One of the key factors is cloudiness, which can be presented not only as a percentage of the sky area covered by clouds but also many additional parameters, such as the type of clouds, the distribution of clouds across atmospheric layers, and their height. The use of machine learning algorithms to forecast the generation of solar power plants requires retrospective data over a long period and formalising the features; however, retrospective data with detailed information about cloudiness are normally recorded in the natural language format. This paper proposes an algorithm for processing such records to convert them into a binary feature vector. Experiments conducted on data from a real solar power plant showed that this algorithm increases the accuracy of short-term solar irradiance forecasts by 5–15%, depending on the quality metric used. At the same time, adding features makes the model less transparent to the user, which is a significant drawback from the point of view of explainable artificial intelligence. Therefore, the paper uses an additive explanation algorithm based on the Shapley vector to interpret the model's output. It is shown that this approach allows the machine learning model to explain why it generates a particular forecast, which will provide a greater level of trust in intelligent information systems in the power industry. This paper appraises convolutional neural network (CNN) models' capabilities in emotion detection from facial expressions, seeking to aid the diagnosis of psychosomatic illnesses, typically made in clinical setups. Using the FER-2013 dataset, two CNN models were designed to detect six emotions with 64% accuracy—although not evenly distributed; they demonstrated higher effectiveness in identifying "happy" and "surprise." The assessment was performed through several performance metrics—accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores—besides further validation with an additional simulated clinical environment for practicality checks. Despite showing promising levels for future use, this investigation highlights the need for extensive validation studies in clinical settings. The increasing growth in knowledge about the functioning of the nervous system of mammals and humans, as well as the significant neuromorphic technology developments in recent decades, has led to the emergence of a large number of brain–computer interfaces and neuroprosthetics for regenerative medicine tasks. Neurotechnologies have traditionally been developed for therapeutic purposes to help or replace motor, sensory or cognitive abilities damaged by injury or disease. They also have significant potential for memory enhancement. However, there are still no fully developed neurotechnologies and neural interfaces capable of restoring or expanding cognitive functions, in particular memory, in mammals or humans. In this regard, the search for new technologies in the field of the restoration of cognitive functions is an urgent task of modern neurophysiology, neurotechnology and artificial intelligence. The hippocampus is an important brain structure connected to memory and information processing in the brain. The aim of this paper is to propose an approach based on deep neural networks for the prediction of hippocampal signals in the CA1 region based on received biological input in the CA3 region. We compare the results of prediction for two widely used deep architectures: reservoir computing (RC) and long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. The proposed study can be viewed as a first step in the complex task of the development of a neurohybrid chip, which allows one to restore memory functions in the damaged rodent hippocampus. Remote sensing datasets usually have a wide range of spatial and spectral resolutions. They provide unique advantages in surveillance systems, and many government organizations use remote sensing multispectral imagery to monitor security-critical infrastructures or targets. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has advanced rapidly in recent years and has been widely applied to remote image analysis, achieving state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance. However, AI models are vulnerable and can be easily deceived or poisoned. A malicious user may poison an AI model by creating a stealthy backdoor. A backdoored AI model performs well on clean data but behaves abnormally when a planted trigger appears in the data. Backdoor attacks have been extensively studied in machine learning-based computer vision applications with natural images. However, much less research has been conducted on remote sensing imagery, which typically consists of many more bands in addition to the red, green, and blue bands found in natural images. In this paper, we first extensively studied a popular backdoor attack, BadNets, applied to a remote sensing dataset, where the trigger was planted in all of the bands in the data. Our results showed that SOTA defense mechanisms, including Neural Cleanse, TABOR, Activation Clustering, Fine-Pruning, GangSweep, Strip, DeepInspect, and Pixel Backdoor, had difficulties detecting and mitigating the backdoor attack. We then proposed an explainable AI-guided backdoor attack specifically for remote sensing imagery by placing triggers in the image sub-bands. Our proposed attack model even poses stronger challenges to these SOTA defense mechanisms, and no method was able to defend it. The proliferation of classification-capable artificial intelligence (AI) across a wide range of domains (e.g., agriculture, construction, etc.) has been allowed to optimize and complement several tasks, typically operationalized by humans. The computational training that allows providing such support is frequently hindered by various challenges related to datasets, including the scarcity of examples and imbalanced class distributions, which have detrimental effects on the production of accurate models. For a proper approach to these challenges, strategies smarter than the traditional brute force-based K-fold cross-validation or the naivety of hold-out are required, with the following main goals in mind: (1) carrying out one-shot, close-to-optimal data arrangements, accelerating conventional training optimization; and (2) aiming at maximizing the capacity of inference models to its fullest extent while relieving computational burden. To that end, in this paper, two image-based feature-aware dataset splitting approaches are proposed, hypothesizing a contribution towards attaining classification models that are closer to their full inference potential. Both rely on strategic image harvesting: while one of them hinges on weighted random selection out of a feature-based clusters set, the other involves a balanced picking process from a sorted list that stores data features' distances to the centroid of a whole feature space. Comparative tests on datasets related to grapevine leaves phenotyping and bridge defects showcase promising results, highlighting a viable alternative to K-fold cross-validation and hold-out methods. Our paper compares the correctness, efficiency, and maintainability of human-generated and AI-generated program code. For that, we analyzed the computational resources of AI- and human-generated program code using metrics such as time and space complexity as well as runtime and memory usage. Additionally, we evaluated the maintainability using metrics such as lines of code, cyclomatic complexity, Halstead complexity and maintainability index. For our experiments, we had generative AIs produce program code in Java, Python, and C++ that solves problems defined on the competition coding website leetcode.com. We selected six LeetCode problems of varying difficulty, resulting in 18 program codes generated by each generative AI. GitHub Copilot, powered by Codex (GPT-3.0), performed best, solving 9 of the 18 problems (50.0%), whereas CodeWhisperer did not solve a single problem. BingAI Chat (GPT-4.0) generated correct program code for seven problems (38.9%), ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) and Code Llama (Llama 2) for four problems (22.2%) and StarCoder and InstructCodeT5+ for only one problem (5.6%). Surprisingly, although ChatGPT generated only four correct program codes, it was the only generative AI capable of providing a correct solution to a coding problem of difficulty level hard. In summary, 26 AI-generated codes (20.6%) solve the respective problem. For 11 AI-generated incorrect codes (8.7%), only minimal modifications to the program code are necessary to solve the problem, which results in time savings between 8.9% and even 71.3% in comparison to programming the program code from scratch. Ambiguous optical illusions have been a paradigmatic object of fascination, research and inspiration in arts, psychology and video games. However, accurate computational models of perception of ambiguous figures have been elusive. In this paper, we design and train a deep neural network model to simulate human perception of the Necker cube, an ambiguous drawing with several alternating possible interpretations. Defining the weights of the neural network connection using a quantum generator of truly random numbers, in agreement with the emerging concepts of quantum artificial intelligence and quantum cognition, we reveal that the actual perceptual state of the Necker cube is a qubit-like superposition of the two fundamental perceptual states predicted by classical theories. Our results finds applications in video games and virtual reality systems employed for training of astronauts and operators of unmanned aerial vehicles. They are also useful for researchers working in the fields of machine learning and vision, psychology of perception and quantum–mechanical models of human mind and decision making. Today, specific convolution neural network (CNN) models assigned to specific tasks are often used. In this article, the authors explored three models: MobileNet, EfficientNetB0, and InceptionV3 combined. The authors were interested in investigating how quickly an artificial intelligence model can be taught with limited computer resources. Three types of training bases were investigated, starting with a simple base verifying five colours, then recognizing two different orthogonal elements, followed by more complex images from different families. This research aimed to demonstrate the capabilities of the models based on training base parameters such as the number of images and epoch types. Architectures proposed by the authors in these cases were chosen based on simulation studies conducted on a virtual machine with limited hardware parameters. The proposals present the advantages and disadvantages of the different models based on the TensorFlow and Keras libraries in the Jupiter environment based on the Python programming language. An artificial intelligence model with a combination of MobileNet, proposed by Siemens, and Efficient and Inception, selected by the authors, allows for further work to be conducted on image classification, but with limited computer resources for industrial implementation on a programmable logical controller (PLC). The accurate forecasting of oil recovery factors is crucial for the effective management and optimization of oil production processes. This study explores the application of machine learning methods, specifically focusing on parallel algorithms, to enhance traditional reservoir simulation frameworks using black oil models. This research involves four main steps: collecting a synthetic dataset, preprocessing it, modeling and predicting the oil recovery factors with various machine learning techniques, and evaluating the model's performance. The analysis was carried out on a synthetic dataset containing parameters such as porosity, pressure, and the viscosity of oil and gas. By utilizing parallel computing, particularly GPUs, this study demonstrates significant improvements in processing efficiency and prediction accuracy. While maintaining the value of the R 2 metric in the range of 0.97, using data parallelism sped up the learning process by, at best, 10.54 times. Neural network training was accelerated almost 8 times when running on a GPU. These findings underscore the potential of parallel machine learning algorithms to revolutionize the decision-making processes in reservoir management, offering faster and more precise predictive tools. This work not only contributes to computational sciences and reservoir engineering but also opens new avenues for the integration of advanced machine learning and parallel computing methods in optimizing oil recovery. The development of smart cities will require the construction of smart buildings. Smart buildings will demand the incorporation of elements for efficient monitoring and control of electrical consumption. The development of efficient AI algorithms is needed to generate more accurate electricity consumption predictions; therefore; anomaly detection in electricity consumption predictions has become an important research topic. This work focuses on the study of the detection of anomalies in domestic electrical consumption in Mexico. A predictive machine learning model of future electricity consumption was generated to evaluate various anomaly-detection techniques. Their effectiveness in identifying outliers was determined, and their performance was documented. A 30-day forecast of electrical consumption and an anomaly-detection model have been developed using isolation forest. Isolation forest successfully captured up to 75% of the anomalies. Finally, the Shapley values have been used to generate an explanation of the results of a model capable of detecting anomalous data for the Mexican context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The growth in the number of people suffering from eye diseases determines the relevance of research in the field of diagnosing retinal pathologies. Artificial intelligence models and algorithms based on measurements obtained via electrophysiological methods can significantly improve and speed up the analysis of results and diagnostics. We propose an approach to designing an artificial intelligent diagnosis system (AI diagnosis system) which includes an electrophysiological complex to collect objective information and an intelligent decision support system to justify the diagnosis. The task of diagnosing retinal diseases based on a set of heterogeneous data is considered as a multi-class classification on unbalanced data. The decision support system includes two classifiers—one classifier is based on a fuzzy model and a fuzzy rule base (RB-classifier) and one uses the stochastic gradient boosting algorithm (SGB-classifier). The efficiency of algorithms in a multi-class classification on unbalanced data is assessed based on two indicators—MAUC (multi-class area under curve) and MMCC (multi-class Matthews correlation coefficient). Combining two algorithms in a decision support system provides more accurate and reliable pathology identification. The accuracy of diagnostics using the proposed AI diagnosis system is 5–8% higher than the accuracy of a system using only diagnostics based on electrophysical indicators. The AI diagnosis system differs from other systems of this class in that it is based on the processing of objective electrophysiological data and socio-demographic data about patients, as well as subjective information from the anamnesis, which ensures increased efficiency of medical decision-making. The system is tested using actual data about retinal diseases from the Russian Institute of Eye Diseases and its high efficiency is proven. Simulation experiments conducted in various scenario conditions with different combinations of factors ensured the identification of the main determinants (markers) for each diagnosis of retinal pathology. This research aims to apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods, specifically Artificial Immune Systems (AIS), to design an optimal control strategy for a multivariable control plant. Two specific industrial control approaches are investigated: I-PD (Integral-Proportional Derivative) and PI-D (Proportional-Integral Derivative) control. The motivation for using these variations of PID controllers is that they are functionally implemented in modern industrial controllers, where they provide precise process control. The research results in a novel solution to the control synthesis problem for the industrial system. In particular, the research deals with the synthesis of I-P control for a two-loop system in the technological process of a distillation column. This synthesis is carried out using the AIS algorithm, which is the first application of this technique in this specific context. Methodological approaches are proposed to improve the performance of industrial multivariable control systems by effectively using optimization algorithms and establishing modified quality criteria. The numerical performance index ISE justifies the effectiveness of the AIS-based controllers in comparison with conventional PID controllers (ISE1 = 1.865, ISE2 = 1.56). The ability to automatically generate code, i.e., program synthesis, is one of the most important applications of artificial intelligence (AI). Currently, two AI techniques are leading the way: large language models (LLMs) and genetic programming (GP) methods—each with its strengths and weaknesses. While LLMs have shown success in program synthesis from a task description, they often struggle to generate the correct code due to ambiguity in task specifications, complex programming syntax, and lack of reliability in the generated code. Furthermore, their generative nature limits their ability to fix erroneous code with iterative LLM prompting. Grammar-guided genetic programming (G3P, i.e., one of the top GP methods) has been shown capable of evolving programs that fit a defined Backus–Naur-form (BNF) grammar based on a set of input/output tests that help guide the search process while ensuring that the generated code does not include calls to untrustworthy libraries or poorly structured snippets. However, G3P still faces issues generating code for complex tasks. A recent study attempting to combine both approaches (G3P and LLMs) by seeding an LLM-generated program into the initial population of the G3P has shown promising results. However, the approach rapidly loses the seeded information over the evolutionary process, which hinders its performance. In this work, we propose combining an LLM (specifically ChatGPT) with a many-objective G3P (MaOG3P) framework in two parts: (i) provide the LLM-generated code as a seed to the evolutionary process following a grammar-mapping phase that creates an avenue for program evolution and error correction; and (ii) leverage many-objective similarity measures towards the LLM-generated code to guide the search process throughout the evolution. The idea behind using the similarity measures is that the LLM-generated code is likely to be close to the correct fitting code. Our approach compels any generated program to adhere to the BNF grammar, ultimately mitigating security risks and improving code quality. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, drones) are not just a technological achievement based on modern ideas of artificial intelligence; they also provide a sustainable solution for green technologies in logistics, transport, and material handling. In particular, using battery-powered UAVs to transport products can significantly decrease energy and fuel expenses, reduce environmental pollution, and improve the efficiency of clean technologies through improved energy-saving efficiency. We consider the problem of maximizing the average environmental benefit of a fleet of drones given a periodic schedule of tasks performed by the fleet of vehicles. To solve the problem efficiently, we formulate it as an optimization problem on an infinite periodic graph and reduce it to a special type of parametric assignment problem. Respiratory Inductance Plethysmography (RIP) is a non-invasive method for the measurement of respiratory rates and lung volumes. Accurate detection of respiratory rates and volumes is crucial for the diagnosis and monitoring of prognosis of lung diseases, for which spirometry is classically used in clinical applications. RIP has been studied as an alternative to spirometry and shown promising results. Moreover, RIP data can be analyzed through machine learning (ML)-based approaches for some other purposes, i.e., detection of apneas, work of breathing (WoB) measurement, and recognition of human activity based on breathing patterns. The goal of this study is to provide an in-depth systematic review of the scope of usage of RIP and current RIP device developments, as well as to evaluate the performance, usability, and reliability of ML-based data analysis techniques within its designated scope while adhering to the PRISMA guidelines. This work also identifies research gaps in the field and highlights the potential scope for future work. The IEEE Explore, Springer, PLoS One, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases were examined, and 40 publications were included in this work through a structured screening and quality assessment procedure. Studies with conclusive experimentation on RIP published between 2012 and 2023 were included, while unvalidated studies were excluded. The findings indicate that RIP is an effective method to a certain extent for testing and monitoring respiratory functions, though its accuracy is lacking in some settings. However, RIP possesses some advantages over spirometry due to its non-invasive nature and functionality for both stationary and ambulatory uses. RIP also demonstrates its capabilities in ML-based applications, such as detection of breathing asynchrony, classification of apnea, identification of sleep stage, and human activity recognition (HAR). It is our conclusion that, though RIP is not yet ready to replace spirometry and other established methods, it can provide crucial insights into subjects' condition associated to respiratory illnesses. Image understanding plays a pivotal role in various computer vision tasks, such as extraction of essential features from images, object detection, and segmentation. At a higher level of granularity, both semantic and instance segmentation are necessary for fully grasping a scene. In recent times, the concept of panoptic segmentation has emerged as a field of study that unifies semantic and instance segmentation. This article sheds light on the pivotal role of panoptic segmentation as a visualization tool for understanding scene components, including object detection, categorization, and precise localization of scene elements. Advancements in achieving panoptic segmentation and suggested improvements to the predicted outputs through a top-down approach are discussed. Furthermore, datasets relevant to both scene recognition and panoptic segmentation are explored to facilitate a comparative analysis. The task of tree species classification through deep learning has been challenging for the forestry community, and the lack of standardized datasets has hindered further progress. Our work presents a solution in the form of a large bark image dataset called CentralBark, which enhances the deep learning-based tree species classification. Additionally, we have laid out an efficient and repeatable data collection protocol to assist future works in an organized manner. The dataset contains images of 25 central hardwood and Appalachian region tree species, with over 19,000 images of varying diameters, light, and moisture conditions. We tested 25 species: elm, oak, American basswood, American beech, American elm, American sycamore, bitternut hickory, black cherry, black locust, black oak, black walnut, eastern cottonwood, hackberry, honey locust, northern red oak, Ohio buckeye, Osage-orange, pignut hickory, sassafras, shagbark hickory silver maple, slippery elm, sugar maple, sweetgum, white ash, white oak, and yellow poplar. Our experiment involved testing three different models to assess the feasibility of species classification using unaltered and uncropped images during the species-classification training process. We achieved an overall accuracy of 83.21% using the EfficientNet-b3 model, which was the best of the three models (EfficientNet-b3, ResNet-50, and MobileNet-V3-small), and an average accuracy of 80.23%. Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women globally. Despite the significant impact of deep learning models on breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, achieving fairness or equitable outcomes across diverse populations remains a challenge when some demographic groups are underrepresented in the training data. We quantified the bias of models trained to predict breast cancer stage from a dataset consisting of 1000 biopsies from 842 patients provided by AIM-Ahead (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Consortium to Advance Health Equity and Researcher Diversity). Notably, the majority of data (over 70%) were from White patients. We found that prior to post-processing adjustments, all deep learning models we trained consistently performed better for White patients than for non-White patients. After model calibration, we observed mixed results, with only some models demonstrating improved performance. This work provides a case study of bias in breast cancer medical imaging models and highlights the challenges in using post-processing to attempt to achieve fairness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Endometriosis (EM) is a chronic inflammatory estrogen-dependent disorder that affects 10% of women worldwide. It affects the female reproductive tract and its resident microbiota, as well as distal body sites that can serve as surrogate markers of EM. Currently, no single definitive biomarker can diagnose EM. For this pilot study, we analyzed a cohort of 21 patients with endometriosis and infertility-associated conditions. A microbiome dataset was created using five sample types taken from the reproductive and gastrointestinal tracts of each patient. We evaluated several machine learning algorithms for EM detection using these features. The characteristics of the dataset were derived from endometrial biopsy, endometrial fluid, vaginal, oral, and fecal samples. Despite limited data, the algorithms demonstrated high performance with respect to the F1 score. In addition, they suggested that disease diagnosis could potentially be improved by using less medically invasive procedures. Overall, the results indicate that machine learning algorithms can be useful tools for diagnosing endometriosis in low-resource settings where data availability and availability are limited. We recommend that future studies explore the complexities of the EM disorder using artificial intelligence and prediction modeling to further define the characteristics of the endometriosis phenotype. This paper appraises convolutional neural network (CNN) models’ capabilities in emotion detection from facial expressions, seeking to aid the diagnosis of psychosomatic illnesses, typically made in clinical setups. Using the FER-2013 dataset, two CNN models were designed to detect six emotions with 64% accuracy—although not evenly distributed; they demonstrated higher effectiveness in identifying “happy” and “surprise.” The assessment was performed through several performance metrics—accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-scores—besides further validation with an additional simulated clinical environment for practicality checks. Despite showing promising levels for future use, this investigation highlights the need for extensive validation studies in clinical settings. This research underscores AI’s potential value as an adjunct to traditional diagnostic approaches while focusing on wider scope (broader datasets) plus focus (multimodal integration) areas to be considered among recommendations in forthcoming studies. This study underscores the importance of CNN models in developing psychosomatic diagnostics and promoting future development based on ethics and patient care.

Edge computing is one of the technological areas currently considered among the most promising for the implementation of many types of applications. In particular, IoT-type applications can benefit from reduced latency and better data protection. However, the price typically to be paid in order to benefit from the offered opportunities includes the need to use a reduced amount of resources compared to the traditional cloud environment. Indeed, it may happen that only one computing node can be used. In these situations, it is essential to introduce computing and memory resource management techniques that allow resources to be optimized while still guaranteeing acceptable performance, in terms of latency and probability of rejection. For this reason, the use of serverless technologies, managed by reinforcement learning algorithms, is an active area of research. In this paper, we explore and compare the performance of some machine learning algorithms for managing horizontal function autoscaling in a serverless edge computing system. In particular, we make use of open serverless technologies, deployed in a Kubernetes cluster, to experimentally fine-tune the performance of the algorithms. The results obtained allow both the understanding of some basic mechanisms typical of edge computing systems and related technologies that determine system performance and the guiding of configuration choices for systems in operation.

Our paper compares the correctness, efficiency, and maintainability of human-generated and AI-generated program code. For that, we analyzed the computational resources of AI- and human-generated program code using metrics such as time and space complexity as well as runtime and memory usage. Additionally, we evaluated the maintainability using metrics such as lines of code, cyclomatic complexity, Halstead complexity and maintainability index. For our experiments, we had generative AIs produce program code in Java, Python, and C++ that solves problems defined on the competition coding website leetcode.com. We selected six LeetCode problems of varying difficulty, resulting in 18 program codes generated by each generative AI. GitHub Copilot, powered by Codex (GPT-3.0), performed best, solving 9 of the 18 problems (50.0%), whereas CodeWhisperer did not solve a single problem. BingAI Chat (GPT-4.0) generated correct program code for seven problems (38.9%), ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) and Code Llama (Llama 2) for four problems (22.2%) and StarCoder and InstructCodeT5+ for only one problem (5.6%). Surprisingly, although ChatGPT generated only four correct program codes, it was the only generative AI capable of providing a correct solution to a coding problem of difficulty level hard. In summary, 26 AI-generated codes (20.6%) solve the respective problem. For 11 AI-generated incorrect codes (8.7%), only minimal modifications to the program code are necessary to solve the problem, which results in time savings between 8.9% and even 71.3% in comparison to programming the program code from scratch.

Ambiguous optical illusions have been a paradigmatic object of fascination, research and inspiration in arts, psychology and video games. However, accurate computational models of perception of ambiguous figures have been elusive. In this paper, we design and train a deep neural network model to simulate human perception of the Necker cube, an ambiguous drawing with several alternating possible interpretations. Defining the weights of the neural network connection using a quantum generator of truly random numbers, in agreement with the emerging concepts of quantum artificial intelligence and quantum cognition, we reveal that the actual perceptual state of the Necker cube is a qubit-like superposition of the two fundamental perceptual states predicted by classical theories. Our results finds applications in video games and virtual reality systems employed for training of astronauts and operators of unmanned aerial vehicles. They are also useful for researchers working in the fields of machine learning and vision, psychology of perception and quantum–mechanical models of human mind and decision making.
