It is well known that biomedical imaging analysis plays a crucial role in the healthcare sector and produces a huge quantity of data. These data can be exploited to study diseases and their evolution in a deeper way or to predict their onsets. In particular, image classification represents one of the main problems in the biomedical imaging context. Due to the data complexity, biomedical image classification can be carried out by trainable mathematical models, such as artificial neural networks. When employing a neural network, one of the main challenges is to determine the optimal duration of the training phase to achieve the best performance. This paper introduces a new adaptive early stopping technique to set the optimal training time based on dynamic selection strategies to fix the learning rate and the mini-batch size of the stochastic gradient method exploited as the optimizer. The numerical experiments, carried out on different artificial neural networks for image classification, show that the developed adaptive early stopping procedure leads to the same literature performance while finalizing the training in fewer epochs. The numerical examples have been performed on the CIFAR100 dataset and on two distinct MedMNIST2D datasets which are the large-scale lightweight benchmark for biomedical image classification. In the paper, the author deals with modeling the stochastic behavior of ordinary patch antennas in terms of the mean and standard deviation of their reflection coefficient |S11| under the geometrical uncertainty associated with their manufacturing process. The Artificial Neural Network is used to model the stochastic reflection coefficient of the antennas. The Polynomial Chaos Expansion and FDTD computations are used to obtain the training and testing data for the Artificial Neural Network. For the first time, the author uses his analytical transformations to reduce the required number of highly time-consuming FDTD simulations for a given set of nominal values of the design parameters of the ordinary patch antenna. An analysis is performed for n257 and n258 frequency bands (24.5–28.7 GHz). The probability distributions of the design parameters are extracted from the measurement results obtained for a series of manufactured patch antenna arrays for three different frequencies in the C, X, and Ka bands. Patch antennas are chosen as the subject of the scientific analysis in this paper because of the popularity of the patch antennas in the scientific literature concerning antennas, as well as because of a simple form of these antennas that is reflected in the time required for computation of training and testing data for the Artificial Neural Network. This paper presents a novel diagonal recurrent neural network hybrid controller based on the shared memory of real-time database structure. The controller uses Data Engine (DE) technology, through the establishment of a unified and standardized software architecture and real-time database in different control stations, effectively solves many problems caused by technical standard, communication protocol, and programming language in actual industrial application: the advanced control algorithm and control system co-debugging difficulties, algorithm implementation and update inefficiency, and high development and operation and maintenance costs effectively fill the current technical gap. More importantly, the control algorithm development uses a unified visual graphics configuration programming environment, effectively solving the problem of integrated control of heterogeneous devices; and has the advantages of intuitive configuration and transparent data processing process, reducing the difficulty of the advanced control algorithms debugging in engineering applications. In this paper, the application of a neural network hybrid controller based on DE in motor speed measurement and control system shows that the system has excellent control characteristics and anti-disturbance ability, and provides an integrated method for neural network control algorithm in a practical industrial control system, which is the major contribution of this article. Disaster logistics management is vital in planning and organizing humanitarian assistance distribution. The planning problem faces challenges, such as coordinating the allocation and distribution of essential resources while considering the severity of the disaster, population density, and accessibility. This study proposes an optimized disaster relief management model, including distribution center placement, demand point prediction, prohibited route mapping, and efficient relief goods distribution. A dynamic model predicts the location of post-disaster distribution centers using the K-Means method based on impacted demand points' positions. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) aid in predicting assistance requests around formed distribution centers. The forbidden route model maps permitted and prohibited routes while considering constraints to enhance relief supply distribution efficacy. The objective function aims to minimize both cost and time in post-disaster aid distribution. The model deep location routing problem (DLRP) effectively handles mixed nonlinear multi-objective programming, choosing the best forbidden routes. The combination of these models provides a comprehensive framework for optimizing disaster relief management, resulting in more effective and responsive disaster handling. Numerical examples show the model's effectiveness in solving complex humanitarian logistics problems with lower computation time, which is crucial for quick decision making during disasters. Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) represent a crucial component in the security of a system, and their role is to continuously monitor the network and alert the user of any suspicious activity or event. In recent years, the complexity of networks has been rapidly increasing and network intrusions have become more frequent and less detectable. The increase in complexity pushed researchers to boost NIDS effectiveness by introducing machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques. However, even with the addition of ML and DL, some issues still need to be addressed: high false negative rates and low attack predictability for minority classes. Aim of the study was to address these problems that have not been adequately addressed in the literature. Firstly, we have built a deep learning model for network intrusion detection that would be able to perform both binary and multiclass classification of network traffic. The goal of this base model was to achieve at least the same, if not better, performance than the models observed in the state-of-the-art research. Then, we proposed an effective refinement strategy and generated several models for lowering the FNR and increasing the predictability for the minority classes. The obtained results proved that using the proper parameters is possible to achieve a satisfying trade-off between FNR, accuracy, and detection of the minority classes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nowadays, the integration of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, etc. into the grid is recommended to reduce losses and meet demands. The application of power electronics devices (PED) to control non-linear, unbalanced loads leads to power quality (PQ) issues. This work presents a hybrid controller for the self-tuning filter (STF)-based Shunt active power filter (SHAPF), integrated with a wind power generation system (WPGS) and a battery storage system (BS). The SHAPF comprises a three-phase voltage source inverter, coupled via a DC-Link. The proposed neuro-fuzzy inference hybrid controller (NFIHC) utilizes both the properties of Fuzzy Logic (FL) and artificial neural network (ANN) controllers and maintains constant DC-Link voltage. The phase synchronization was generated by a self-tuning filter (STF) for the effective working of SHAPF during unbalanced and distorted supply voltages. In addition, STF also does the work of low-pass filters (LPFs) and HPFs (high-pass filters) for splitting the Fundamental component (FC) and Harmonic component (HC) of the current. The control of SHAPF works on d-q theory with the advantage of eliminating low-pass filters (LPFs) and phase-locked loop (PLL). The prime objective of the projected work is to regulate the DC-Link voltage during wind uncertainties and load variations, and minimize the total harmonic distortion (THD) in the current waveforms, thereby improving the power factor (PF).Test studies with various combinations of balanced/unbalanced loads, wind velocity variations, and supply voltage were used to evaluate the suggested method's superior performance. Presenting a satisfactory and efficient training algorithm for artificial neural networks (ANN) has been a challenging task in the supervised learning area. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is one of the most widely used algorithms due to its simplicity of implementation and fast convergence speed. On the other hand, Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm has been proven to have a good ability for finding the global optimum; however, it has a slow convergence rate. In this study, a hybrid algorithm based on PSO and CS is proposed to make use of the advantages of both PSO and CS algorithms. The proposed hybrid algorithm is employed as a new training method for feedforward neural networks (FNNs). To investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm, two benchmark problems are used and the results are compared with those obtained from FNNs trained by original PSO and CS algorithms. Recently, magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) has been paid increasingly attention for vibration mitigation devices with the benefits of low power cost, fail safe performances, and fast responses. To make full use of the striking advantages of MRE device, a highly precise model should be developed to predict its dynamic performances. In the work, an MRE isolator in shear–squeeze mixed mode is developed and tested under dynamic loadings. The nonlinear performances in various displacement amplitude and currents are shown. An artificial neural network model with a back-propagation algorithm is proposed to characterize the nonlinear hysteresis of MRE isolator for its implementation in vibration control applications. This model utilized the displacement, velocity, and applied current as inputs and output force as output. The results show that the proposed model has high modeling accuracy and can well portray the complicated behaviors of MRE isolator with different excitations, which shows a fundamental basis for structural vibration control.
